Giving an iPod as a gift, updated with my music

Hi all,
I gave my nephew an iPod Classic as a gift. I uploaded all the music from my library before giving it to him. Now he's having trouble syncing it on his own computer. He wants to add his own music now.
Is there something easy we're overlooking? If I hadn't had several glasses of wine I might be able to figure this out, but hey, it's New Year's Day!
Thanks,
JJ737

The iPod keeps crashing going back to the main screen with my iPad after updated with IOS 4.2 beta 2. Any solution? Anyone has the same issue?

You will probably get several comments from some of the developers that hang out here about moving the question to the developer's forum. Not many of those using the Betas will comment on them on here due to non-disclosure agreement with Apple.

    Hi!
My 2003 IPOD won't update with my Itunes purchased music when I sync.

Try deauthorizing and reauthorizing your computer. Repeat the deauthorization and reauthorization process for any other iTunes Music Store accounts for which your computer is authorized.
1.Double-click one of your affected iTunes Music Store songs.
2.Enter your account name and password in the resulting dialog.
    3.Click OK.
After you've deauthorized and reauthorized your computer, open iTunes, select your iPod, and choose Update iPod from the File menu. If that doesn't resolve the issue, try restoring your iPod.
After you've restored your iPod, open iTunes, select your iPod, and choose Update iPod from the File menu. If that doesn't resolve the issue, try recreating your iTunes library.
After you've recreated your iTunes library, open iTunes, select your iPod, and choose Update iPod from the File menu.

  • Giving an iPod as a gift!

    Hello--
I am about to give a friend of mine an iPod for her birthday. since she is computer illiterate, I thought I'd load it up for her before she opens it. Will this work, or will this screw her up when she finally tries to hook it up to her computer?
    Thanks!

    This should work fine:)
However, you should set her iPod up to manually update in order to prevent her library from being erased.
Go to Preferences>iPod and select "manually manage songs and playlists."
I'm assuming you have similar computers (ie both running Windows). If not, please let me know!

  • IPod playlists won't update with iTunes 6

I just downloaded iTunes 6, and when I connected my iPod, it basically erased the 1,000 songs I had on it and "updated" my playlist/iPod with a random 450 songs. I got an error message saying that not all of my playlists could be updated because my software is too old. But I have the newest software...help is greatly appreciated!!

    hi Cathleen!
    The updater is 2004-04-28.
Kathy's giving you good advice. there's a few extra details on how to go about updating your ipod software given in here:

  • New 60GB iPod very slow in updating with iTunes for Windows

I just purchased my first iPod, the new 60GB model. I imported all my music into iTunes from a music server connected to my home network. Although the import took a very long time, it all imported succesfully.
When initially connecting my iPod, its litearlly took all night (several hours) to get all the music into my iPod. It was 6000 songs and 40GB.
Now evertime I connect my iPod to my PC, it takes about 45-60 minutes to update, even though no changes were made to the music in the library.
Is this normal? For it to take that long to update every time I connect? I know I can shut off the automatic update, but this seems like a very long time, and there may be something wrong.
I have a new Windows XP PC with 2GB of memory, a fast processor, and I am connecting to the front USB 2.0 port. I have made sure I have all the updated iPod and iTunes software, and I have reset the iPod several times.
If anyone can help, I would appreciate it. Thanks.
      Windows XP

Yes, it does say update in progress, but doesnt show it copying any songs (when there are no new songs), and it does eventually finish and let me disconnect properly, its just take forever...
I am connected directly to a USB 2.0 port in the front of my PC. I do not have a USB hub, though 6 out of my 7 USB ports are occupied (keyboard, mouse, printer, etc).
evertime I connect my iPod to
my PC, it takes about 45-60 minutes to update, even
though no changes were made to the music in the
    library.
During these updates, does iTunes show "update in
progress" messages in the iTunes "LCD" display? Does
it eventually show a message about copying files to
the iPod? 45-60 minutes is too long if no files are
    getting loaded into the iPod.
Are you connected directly to the USB port, or going
through a USB hub? Any other USB devices connected
    at the same time?

  • IPod takes forever to update with iTunes 7.0

Has anyone else noticed that each time you update your iPod with version 7.0 that it takes forever, regardless of how many additions you have to your library?
Recently I purchased ONE song for the music store and wanted to take it with me on my iPod. Typically the process only took a few minutes. Now it seems to take 30-60 minutes on my iPod in which I have a little over 5000 songs?!?! Is it rewriting each and every file?
This makes it frustrating, especially when you want to update and go. My iPod sat at home since I had to go.
I love Apple, but they really messed up with this shoddy upgrade.

I am also experiencing the exact same problem. No matter what, even if I'm just putting my iPod on its dock to charge it goes into an "Updating iPod" and then sits there updating for roughly 30 mins to an hour. This has been very frustrting since upgrading to 7.0.X

  • IPod randomly disconnects when updating with iTunes.

Just got my 60 gig iPod video today, and have been having an aggravating time trying to figure out why the thing keeps disconnecting while updating.
Basically, I selected some songs I want to update, and it will get through prolly about 10% of them before it will randomly just disconnect. When reconnecting, it will start all over from the beginning. It happens at random times, I have no idea what is going on. Any help?
I've tried several different USB ports, all with the same issue.

Did you figure this out? I am having the same problem. I have been unable to get an intial load of songs onto my iPod. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling all the software as well as restoring my iPod. Nothing has worked.

  • Can't add songs - ipod is already with another music library?

i have to computers which i used the same ipod on and i have always been able to add songs from wither computer. but now when i try to add songs onto the ipod from either computer, it states that the ipod is already in use with another music library. it recognises it in itunes, i just can't add any songs.

Use the instructions in this article on either machine to set the iPod to synchronize music manually.

  • Fixed - updater - now have music update problems

SO after numerous installs and uninstalls of updater and itunes, i finally got my ipod to connect and update with Win XP...now a new problem has surfaced.
My ipod (20gb 3rd gen click wheel) has "all" the songs on it, but only about 66% are actually copied correctly. Some of them simply dont exist, the titles do, but there is no song when i try and access that file. some songs copied fine and i can listen, but some didnt..i can listen to them in full on my computer, so i knwo the source file is good..
    ummm...suggestions?

You can downgrade a DMP the same way you upgrade it. Just select the older version of code for your player when you have finished testing in your lab environment.

When trying to restore and update my ipod touch it comes up with an error message saying: "The ipod can not be restored this device isnt eligible for the requested build" How do i fix this?

  • TS2446 If i create a new apple id account on my ipod, will i still have all my music, apps, books and other stuff on my ipod that i downloaded and bought with my old account or will i loose everything; will i be able to still do the updates to those apps?

If I create a new apple id account on my ipod, will I still have all my music, apps, books and other stuff on my ipod that I downloaded and bought with my old account or will I loose everything; will I be able to still do the updates to those apps?
    I really need help!

I don't think you understood what I wrote. You don't HAVE to pay for everything if you are happy with using the other account for updates, etc. But if you don't want to do that then you will have to buy new copies of everything for the new account. There's only one purchase item per account, but you can redownload an item in the account many times.
    The idea is this:
One computer, multiple devices, one Apple ID.
One user, multiple devices, one Apple ID.
The basic idea is that each user has an Apple ID under which he/she can manage multiple devices on a single computer.
Once you step outside of that model you create such problems as not being able to use or update apps purchase under one Apple ID when using a different Apple ID. Or not being able to easily sync one device on more than one computer.
