Giving away free apps that are for purchase
Curious if it's possible to give away certain paid apps for free for specific promotions by use of gift cards or another means... has anyone done anything like this before?

The App store will let you update those apps for which there are applicable updates. If an app does not update for you version of iOS you will not see an update as available. Just tap the App store icon and then Updates in the lower right corner...if there are updates it will identify them.

When will a free app that allows for me to read on my mac like on my iPad be available?
I recently bought a 13 inch macbook air, and I was thrilled. Now, I have to read the Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde for school. I got the book on my iPad for free on my iBooks app, but when I realized that my dad would need my iPad for work more often, I went onto the app store for my macbook and I was very surprised to find that there wasn't an iBooks for mac. I was fully aware of the fact when I bought my macbook that there wouldn't be any "decent games" on the app store for the mac, but I never imagined that there wouldn't be an iBooks! Does anyone know a FREE app that can take the place of iBooks on the app store for macbooks?

There are many folks who feel as you do, wondering why Apple doesn't have an equivalent to iBooks for the Mac. Many other eBook formats; Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Zinio, etc have reader apps to read the books on both Macs and iOS devices.

You may have to open a free membership with free-ebooks.net to download your preferred format. I would go for the pdf, which you can read on your Mac, but also in an app on your iOS devices as well. -

You can assign any icon you want to a file or folder: see "Mac OS X 10.4 Help: Changing the icon of a file or folder.”.
You can find nice sets of icons (what you need for step 1) at sites like Icon Factory or ResExcellence.
Some folks really like the inexpensive shareware application FolderBrander for customizing folders. There's a free trial period and it seems very reasonably priced for what it does.
The freeware application TinkerTool will allow you to change some of the default fonts used in Tiger.
When looking for new applications, I recommend searching MacUpdate or Version Tracker. The user-submitted reviews accompanying the listings can be helpful in sorting the wheat from the chaff.

"Free" apps that are not free - recourse?
Has anyone experienced any issues with downloading a "free" app and then receiving a text stating the app is 9.99/month? What is the recourse?
Unfortunately, I don't recall the name of the app (game), but the text I received is a "mobile registration alert" with my phone# and the cost, with name Fonesocial (800-814-2129) in text. On principle, I texted back complaining about the deceitfulness of the app and refuse to call the number. I'm watching my bill to see if I get a charge from them.How do I prevent phone numbers on my account from using Premium Messaging?
Account holders can disable Premium Messaging via My Verizon.
To disable Premium Messaging:
Make sure you are signed in to My Verizon
Click on the Safe Guards icon.
Under Service Blocks, click on “Add/Remove Blocks”. A list of available service blocks will display.
Check the box next to “Block Premium SMS”.
Note: this needs to be done for each line on the account that you want to prevent from using Premium Messaging. This will prevent anyone from using those lines to subscribe to new Premium Messaging programs or from incurring premium charges from new programs.

This is correct that this is a common way of authorizing a Premium messages but some programmers has figured out other ways to trick you into granting permission to allow them to charge your account. Basically you should be safe from the Market but when you buy from other sites outside the market network they can sometime work the premium message agreement into the agreement policy information to download app.
Best to read everything you are agreeing to these days, electronics agreement can be just as dangerous even without credit card or account numbers, all they need is cell number. -
Looking for the free apps that are supposed to come with MacBook.
I was told instead of a recieving a CD I had to download software like iPhoto from iTunes. The only option I see is to pay for it. I was told it was included. What am I missing?
When I got my Late 2011 MBP in Dec., it had Lion and did NOT have any of the iLife components. After I migrated all my stuff from the corpse of my Early 2008 MBP with Leopard, lo and behold, iLife sprang to life again. And was even allowed to upgrade each component to the latest version, via the App Store, for free.

Are you trying to install an iCloud backup? If so, this is a standard step before your apps will be redownloaded. (It authenticates your iTunes account on the new phone.) Just provide the information being requested.

I have an old app on my iPhone that is able to run on ios7 but has now been deleted from the app store. I was wondering if iTunes sync would allow me to put it onto multiple iPhones with no problems - The iPhones that I want to copy it to are all the same (iPhone 5s), the app is on an iPhone 5s 16GB and I want to put it on an iPhone 5s 32GB.

I've never chosen to delete unused apps in my library because I was worried that if, in the future, one was of interest, that I'd have to re-purchase... so this is not the case then, right? (I'd felt secure knowing that an app was stored on my computer... More than once, I've had to revert to backups and was glad to have copies of my apps safely stored away.)
I've been slow to adopt anything "cloud" so am not well versed on the benefits of using it. So, just to be clear, if I delete an unused app in my local iTunes library, it will forever remain available in the cloud linked to my account, right? -

Free means Free....
As both Johnathan and Demo have indicated, if it says Free there is no charge associated with it. If you upgrade to a "Pro" version, or if you do in-app purchases, then it is no longer free....but when you initially install the app, you do not pay anything if it says "Free".
And "Yeah? I'll show you" does not help us to understand what you are talking about. If you want help, then provide specifics and we will help you to figure out your misunderstanding.

I thought I had a problem with my Ipad in which I didnt, so I backed up my Ipad and restored it, but now Some of my apps that I have purchased are not available only the free version, not the purchased version. I would have to purchase again and it is not backed up into my Icloud either ?
I assume that you will have to set up as new since it will not let you restore from the backup. Then after you set it up, you can restore from the iCloud backup. The backup should not disappear be use you are setting this device up as new. Your backup should still be in iCloud.
However, after you activate the iPd and update the software, you will have to erase the device in order to restore from the Cloud backup, that is the only way to get to the iCloud backup.

Is there a way to hide apps from the app store?
I don't want my kids to see those "free" apps that nag you to spend real money and download their other apps!
I can hide them from "purchased apps", but they still show up when browsing for new apps!
Is there a way to hide them so that my kids will never see them when looking for new apps?Not other than parental oversight. On the computer you can implement Parental Controls on a separate user account that they would use. You can then block certain websites. But you cannot do that on the iPad.
You could change your iTunes account such that they cannot access it in order to buy or download apps. -
why am I still getting this message after logging in? "This computer is no longer authorized for apps that are installed on the iPhone “*************s iPhone”. Would you like to authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes Store?" - after I have logged in and get the message that the computer is already authorized!!!?? - and then the above message pops up again?

What the message says. In iTunes g the the Store tab in ther upper part of the screen and then clink on Authorize this computer.

while trying to sync with my iphone I recieve the message: This computer is no longer authorized for apps that are installed on the iPhone “Terri George’s iPhone”. Would you like to authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes Store? When I put in my password and hit authorize, I get a message telling me there was an unknown error (-50). I've been blocked from Family sharing and now any apps that were previously purchased by my wife even before we shared I cannot download even if There free ones she wants me back on sharing but it won't let me for a year but y can't i download any apps she has ever had even free lots of apps she has but don't use on her devices are not available to me it's like I'm in trouble please help
Try calling Tech Support, they should be able to check to see if theres a lock and try to help you reset it, I had to call and get my account unflagged, for something that I didn't even do.
