Giving away old ipod - cd rom / uploading software question

I recently bought the Classic and it didn't come with iTunes cd to install it. That's fine because I have it already from my old ipod. If I give my sister my old ipod, what is she going to use to install iTunes? Does Apple allow us to use the same cd to install on different computers?
Thank you!!

No iPods come with a CD anymore, all you need to connect and use an iPod on a computer is a copy of iTunes. If iTunes isn't already installed on your sister's computer she just needs to download a copy from the Apple iTunes page and connect the iPod. The CDs used to have a copy of iTunes that was the version in use at the time and a copy of the iPod software updater. The software updaters were discontinued when iTunes 7 was released and the updater became part of iTunes so you didn't need a separate program any more.

  • Giving away old ipod 2nd gen

I'm giving my daughter my old ipod. How do I delete the account in my name and still leave the programs that I purchased on it? I'm not worried about songs or movies. I've only downloaded one but I've purchased lots of programs and games I'd like to keep on it for her. Thanks for anyone's help.

Since there are "programs and games" on it, I guess this is a 2nd gen iPod touch...?
If it is currently synced to your iTunes library and you plan to leave it synced to your iTunes library, you can just change the sync settings as desired and re-sync it.  So, set it up on the iPod's "tabs" (seen to the right when you select the iPod in the iTunes sidebar) to sync the desired apps but not anything else.
If the plan is for her to use the iPod touch with her own iTunes library, on a different computer, you can still do it if you make her computer one of the (up to) FIVE computers authorized to use your iTunes Store account.
Try the following...  On her computer, run iTunes and log in to the iTunes Store using your Apple ID ("Apple ID" equals iTunes Store account).  From the iTunes menu bar, under Store, select Authorize This Computer.  Her computer should now be able to use your iTunes Store content.
From the main iTunes Store screen, find Purchased along the right side of window (under QUICK LINKS).  On the Purchased screen, click Apps.  You should be able to download any previously purchased app onto her computer from this screen.  Download the ones you want her to have on the iPod touch.
Once the apps are downloaded, the iPod can be synced to her iTunes library (which now has your apps in it).  At this point, even if she uses her own Apple ID and authorizes her computer for her Apple ID, it is still also authorized for your Apple ID.  One computer can be authorized to use content from more than one Apple ID.  Therefore, it should be possible to sync and use those apps you purchased using your Apple ID, while she adds other apps (and other content) purchased using her Apple ID.  I'm not 100% sure about this last part, as it related to apps, so you'll need to give it a try; I think it will work.
(When I say "purchased," that includes paid and free content.)

  • I have old ipod touch which has software version 1.1.5 is i would like to know which version i can update in that ipod touch

i have old ipod touch which has software version 1.1.5 i would like to know which version i can update in that and ipod and how

You probably have a 1G ipod.  To get the latest iOS for that mode go to:
Purchasing iOS 3.1 Software Update for iPod touch (1st generation)
It is a paid update.  You may have to use a different browser to get the sublink to work correctly.
Go here to identify your iPod:
    Identifying iPod models
The 2G can go to 4.2.1.

Since I have a new computer and don't have access to my old itunes folder, I will be downloading itunes software from the website starting from anew etc.  I have an ipod classic with all my music library and pictures.  My quiestion is, how do I hook up my ipod to the new software without losing my total library of everything?

  • I have 2 ipods, 1 account and I am giving away an ipod. Help?

I have 2 iPods on one computer/account (a 3rd generation nano and iPod touch) . I don't use the nano anymore and was going to give it to my friend. Is it possible to delete the songs off that iPod only and not the iPod touch? 'And second,  if I can delete the songs off the nano, can my friend start his own iTunes account on his computer.  Please Help!!

Just restore the ipod and give the ipod away.  The new owner can use it as he wishes.

  • Giving my Old iPod to a Friend

I have just got my new iPod 30GB, and am about to give my old Nano to my brother. He has his own music library and computer.
I wnat to know is there anything I need to do in order to de-associate the Nano with me, so he can set it up and have his own library with the iPod. He of course will have to start his own account on the music store.
Just need to know if there is anything I need to do to teh Nano before handing it over?

It's not necessary to do it...you should probably Restore it to factory settings before you give it up.

2...old iMac has Mavericks. What the best way to erase everything ?
3...I'm not sure if I have the CD that came with an old iMac. If no cd, how to install all the programs again ?
    THANKS!

  • Giving Away My Old iPod Mini

Hello, I recently found an old old iPod Mini 4GB while cleaning out my office.....forgot I even had it!  I would like to give it to a girl from church who has had a tough life and is not able to afford such things at this time.  I would like to: 1) make sure this iPod is no longer registered to me and not attached to my current iTunes account - so she can register it to her and use it with her grandma's computer; and 2) leave most of my music on it if possible, that way she can keep songs she likes and not have to buy a bunch of new music right away.  She doesn't have a lot of money.
#1 is most important, #2 is optional but would be nice!
Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Both #1 and #2 are sort of tied together.  The Mini is currently associated with your iTunes library.  If this young girl connects the iPod to her own PC or Mac running iTunes, the iPod will see her iTunes library as a new one.  In order for the iPod Mini to start syncing with her own iTunes library, the iPod must be wiped all all content.  So it probably wouldn't work for you to leave your music on the device.
The only way that would work is it the iPod was set up for manual management.  See here for more details.
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers
Perhaps an easier solution would be to purchase an iTunes Giftcard and include that with the iPod.
As for registration, she'll have to register it under her own Apple ID before it is removed from your list of registered products.
Hopefully this helps clarify your 2 questions, at least a little.   Kudos for giving your iPod away like that!

  • I am giving my old laptop to my father- how do i "reset it" without erasing all of the software i have put on it.  currently he gets all of my email etc??

I am giving my old macbook pro to my father.  i don't want to run the restore disc because of extra software i have added over the years.  I need to figure out how to "reset it" so that he gets his email- i guess to match his imac..... he currently is getting my email.  Our common goal is to somehow link our 4 computers (his imac + mac book pro) and my Imac and macbook pro for ease of sharing info and grandchild pictures (the most important part!!).  we are both technologically challenged- and we are 250 miles apart~!!  We need help!!  I am currently at his house and hope that with info from this forum- while we are together- we may be able to get this figured out.  i can access this forum and read it (since he wont be able to find his glasses) and he will be able to do the technical stuff !!!  Thanks for any assistance anyone can provide!!

    Hi Elaine
You can set up a new user account for him - and delete your old account - without affecting any installed software.
Go to System Preferences, then Accounts (called Users and Groups if you have OS X 10.7 installed).
Use the "+" button and add a new account for your father. I'd recommend that you make it a Standard account (doesn't have administrator privileges). Make sure you (or he) writes down the user name and password that you set up.
If you've already transferred any files you need (documents, pictures, movies, etc), you should delete your old account and set up a new, blank, admin account. First use the Accounts preferences to create a new admin user. Then log out, log in as that new user, and use the same preference window to delete your old account.
Again log out, log in as your father's user, and set up Mail with his email details. Make sure it's correctly sending and receiving email. I strongly recommend, if he has a mail account that supports IMAP, to use the IMAP server, so that any mail he reads on one computer will be marked as read on the other computer.
I'm not sure what plan you have to share photos? There are several online sharing sites (Picasa, etc), but iCloud - for now - doesn't have a photo sharing feature. What other info did you want to share?

  • I have an older Ipod Touch, I bought a new one and the Itunes on my computer is too old to recognize my new Ipod Touch and cannot be updated.  Is there a creditable software program I can use to get all my old music from my old iPod Touch to the new one?

I have an older iPod Touch, I bought a new one and the Itunes on my computer is too old to recognize my new iPod Touch and Itunes cannot be updated.  Is there a creditable software program I can use to get all my old music from my old iPod Touch to the new one?  It is my understanding that the music cannot be saved onto my new iTunes, b/c I did not have iCloud. I have over 2,000 songs I just cannot part with. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help some how!!  THANKS!

I had the same problem with my iPad, i couldn't get the newer version of itunes because the computer was too old and my iPad couldnt sync with the old itunes. I got a PC from school a few months later so that solved the problem for me. Unfortunately i don't think there would be a program to put your music on your iPod, iTunes should be the only way to transfer files to Apple devices. What operating system are you running and what version of it is it?

  • I have a new iPod Touch, so how can I deauthorise my "old" iPod Touch before giving it to my brother or husband?

I have a new iPod Touch, so how can I deauthorise my "old" iPod Touch, before giving it to my brother or husband?
    Thank you.

Are you just trying to deauthorize it from your iTunes account, or do you want to totally erase it?
Your iPod touch is not actually authorized to anything other than the computer you sync it with; it is not authorized with the iTunes store the way your computer is. Giving your iPod to someone else won't give them your store info. Once they plug it into their own iTunes, it will force them to erase the whole thing in order to sync it with their own computer.
If you want to wipe the thing clean before giving it to them, plug it into your computer and choose the option to Restore it. (Or on the device itself, to go Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.)
