Giving my iPad to my Mom........

I want to give my iPad to my mother and get a bigger one. I know a restart will erase my stuff in the iPad, but what about iTunes when she first plugs it into her computer? She won't get my iTunes library or Apple account will she? How do I reregister it under her name and take out mine?

restart will not erase your stuff in the iPad. AS for the problem of taking out yours, you can erase all data on your iPad and set it up as a new device. If you don't have access to iTunes, you can use the following steps to completely erase iPad,
1.Tap Settings.
2.Tap General.
3.Tap Reset.
4.Tap Erase All Content and Settings.
If you want to keep the device in factory condition to your mother, disconnect the device when the restore is completed (when the device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen). Do not select Set Up As New or Restore from Backup. The new user ,you, can name the device and configure syncing options when you connect it to your computer.

  • I want to give my iPad to my mom how do I unregister it?

I want to give my iPad to my mom but I don't want it registered in my name. Does it matter if purchased in Canada and going to be used in the US?

    This doesn't matter.
    1. Open http://supportprofile.apple.com, login with the Apple ID and unregister the device.
    2. Open Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
    3. When that finishes, turn off the device

You can create a new account without a credit card.

  • I am giving my iPad to my daughter,

I am giving my iPad to my daughter, when I restore it to orig factory condition will her iPhone purchases be available, and IOS5 to her through iTunes?  Will the factory reset keep the upgrade for IOS5 or revert to original?  Can she register it via the Cloud or does she need to connect to iTunes.

If you reset the iPad to factory settings it will be like giving her a brand new iPad with a clean install of the iOS. She can use her own Apple ID and download any past purchase that she has made on the phone. Without knowing where you live - in the US - virtually everything can be downloaded again including many movies - not all but many movies.
If the iPad is now running iOS 5 - she can restore via iCloud - if that is what she has been using for a backup - or if she has been using iTunes - she should restore from that. If she is still using iTunes she will want to sync all of her content onto the device as well.
iPhone only apps will run on the iPad but will appear in the smaller screen size and though they can typically be doubled in size by tapping the 2X button that will appear in those apps on the iPad, the resolution will be crappy - but the apps will work.

  • When to buy?  Giving an Ipad as a gift next week?

Giving a gift of a Ipad 3-G to a person at a conference next week. With the announcement of the Ipad two coming out today. How soon do you think Apple will begin shipping. I would rather see a Ipad two as the gift then the Ipad one. What is Apple's policy of allowing a person to upgrade from one to the other if it has not been used?
    Thanks,

Until Apple officially makes an announcement, no one knows the answer of when a new device is going to be released. Last year, it was about 6 to 7 weeks between the announcement and product launch.
There is no upgrade policy. You either sell the first device or if you are in the return window, you return it for a refund and buy the new device.

  • Giving used iPad to Family Member

What do I need to do to clear my old (1st generation) iPad before giving it to a family member? What will he need to do to activate it for his own use? If I clear my old iPad, will that affect the content of my new (3rd generation) iPad?

All that is required is for you to go to Settings, then General, then Reset, and go to Erase All Content and Settings. If the iPad has iOS 5, the new owner will only need to follow the on-screen setup. If the iPad has an earlier version, the new owner will need to connect to iTunes to set it up.

  • Giving late 2007 Mbp to Mom - Need to set it to her name and upgrade to SL?

I am giving my late 2007 mbp to my mom. I want to change the administrator account to her name.
This mbp came with Tiger, and I have since upgraded to Leopard.
I want to give it to her with Snow Leopard.
Is my only solution to erase and reinstall Tiger, upgrade to Leopard, and then upgrade to Snow Leopard?
What is the best course of action?
    Thank you.

It shouldn't be necessary to install Tiger again, but she should have the original Tiger disc set so that she can run the AHT if she needs to. There is some ambiguity as to whether you can just erase and install Snow Leopard, or if you need to install Leopard first. I'm not sure if Leopard contains other software that Snow Leopard might not.
My Mac is also from 2007. When I originally went to Leopard, I did an erase and Install. When I got Snow Leopard, I just did an upgrade and it went fine.
Also, if your Mom has a printer, be sure to install the proper driver for her.
    Good luck!

  • Can I sync my iPad (purchased first) with my iPhone (purchased second). I have apps on my iPad that I would like to sync to my iPhone before giving the iPad to my little sister. Help!

I received the iPad a little over a year ago as a gift from my parents. I loved it so much that I purchased the iPhone4S and I was wondering if it were possible to transfer the Apps that I previously purchased on the iPad to my iPhone. If this isn't possible can I ask why not? I don't understand why purchasing something and paying good money for it doesn't make it truly yours to be used on your devices. I want to give the iPad to my little sister and have my parents set up a new account and "refresh" the iPad (if you can even do that) for her but I'm afraid of losing the Apps that I paid good money for just for them to dissappear. I just want to make the iPad something my sister can call her own. Right now it is connected to me and my account so I would like to change this as well if possible. I am eager to learn more and I look forward to any responses. Thank you for your time.

If you want to have the mostly same content on both devices - it probably makes more sense to restore your iPad from the iPhone backup. this will put all of your app settings and email settings onto the iPad and any app data and game saves as well will transfer to the iPad.
You still want to sync the iPad so that all of the apps and photos that are in your iTunes library transfer over to the iPad. Restoring from the backup doesn't restore apps, music, synced photos, movies, books, TV shows and podcasts - you will still need to sync that content to the iPad.
I have pretty much have the same content on my iPad and on my Touch, but I eliminated the Movies and TV shows from the Touch and some apps as well. Remember that iPhone specific apps may run OK on the iPad - they will run in the iPhone smaller screen size and while you can double the size by tapping on the 2X button in the apps, they will be lower resolution because you just doubling the size of the pixels and the apps look kind of crappy on the iPad - they may work - they just look bad.
I do not auto sync at all. Nor does iTunes open automatically when my iDevices are connected. I start iTunes on my own and I select all of the content - piece by piece - app by app and so on - as I go along. Once you get through the initial set up - iTunes remembers each device and it's content for the next time that you sync.

  • Is it possible to use the account details on 3 or more iTunes accounts? e.g. if giving 2 iPads as presents, each iPad having it's own appleID but with the same payment/card details?

I bought 2 x iPad 1 as a gift and already have one myself. I want to be able to provide them with the means to use iTunes.
Is this possible or does each account need its own payment/card details?
I don't want to assume that its currently possible as this could flag up as a fraudulent event.
    Thanks

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
    That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now.  They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.
    Thanks for listening,
    Melissa

  • Giving my IPad 2 to grandson

I just bought a new IPad with retina display and will give my current IPad2 to my grandson for Christmas. I've bought and downloaded dozens of kids' apps for him, so I want to keep those on the Ipad2. I've deleted all my photos and deleted apps that are for me, not him. Now two questions:
    1. How do I delete my e-mails from the Ipad2 but transfer them to my new IPad?
    2. Finally, how do I reset the username and password from me to his mother? (He's only 5 and unfortunately watched me enough to learn my ITunes password, so he has been known to buy apps for himself.) She doesn't have a Mac but has an IPhone, so probably has an ITunes account....
    Thanks!
    SantaNana

Are the emails not still on your email account e.g. if you log into your email account on your computer or via a browser on your iPad are they still shown on there ? If they are then you can just delete the email account from that iPad via Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, select the account on the left-hand side and tap on Delete Account.
If terms of the apps, they will remain tied to your account, they can't be transferred to a different iTunes account - so your account will need to be authorised on the computer's iTunes that it will be synced to if you want to keep those apps on it (so you may want to change your password).

  • Giving old ipad and apps

Now using a MacAir for many functions for which I used iPad(1).
Want to give the iPad and apps collection to a young tech-2-b.
Is there a way to separate and transfer the iPad apps while retaining my MacAir + Mac-mini, etc?
    Thanks for your consideration.

The apps are tied to your apple ID, so you really can't transfer them unless you want the new owner to have access to your Apple ID. You can wipe your iPad and restore it to an 'out of box' state and then it's best to let hte new owner put his/her own apps on there under their own apple ID

  • Giving my ITouch to my mom

    Hello,
I recently purchased an IPhone and I am going to give my Itouch to my mom. Is there anything I need to do to prep it for her? She really dont know much about the ITouch, but I know she has Itunes.
She has her own Itunes account
Her computer has been synced with my touch before, because her computer was once my computer (PC), before I went to a MAC.
I am downloading the software update for her now so she can get to use the Apps.
Will she run into any problems syncing it to her computer since its been synced with my computer now?
    Thanks

Great, Thats what I thought. I just updated the software from my computer, will it erase once its synced to her computer? The update that cost 9.95 way back when is what I just updated....I dont want that to become deleted once it's synced to her computer. Will that be gone? I deleted everything else and completely restored it anyway.
So great answers, just want to know if we will use the 9.95 update I just put on there when it is synced to her computer? Thanks

  • Ipad for my mom

My mother has an old PC (runs Windows XP) and I was debating between getting her a new imac or an ipad2. I think an ipad2 is what I will get her because all she uses her computer for is email and games, the ipad2 will do that and more. The imac is really too much hardware for her.  I have an ipad1 and she asked me, "Why don't you get the 2 and give me the 1?"   Um.. that's because I want to get the ipad3 when it comes out.
Anyway, she has been using plain ol' dial-up on her computer. She lives out in the country where she cant get high speed for some reason. Her cell phone works out there though.  If I got her an ipad2 with 3g would she then have high-speed on that ipad2? (thus cancel her dial up)  Which is best Verizon or AT & T?

But the whole 'which carrier' question is really tied to her exact reception at her house.  If she is rural, the difference of a mile can make a huge difference in signal quality, speed and ultimately, how good or bad the whole experience is.
( you really dont have a cell phome? Wow). Borrow a phone, or one from each avaiable net work, go to her house, and see if either one or both get a good signal.  Or, talk to one of her neighbors.
Dont put a whole lot of faith in a carrier map, unless you are well inside the area.  Their maps are sometimees a little optimistic.
Lastly, 3g service is capped, and pricey if you blow thru the cap.  Surfing, e mail and game wil not push the limit, butmif she tries to stream , or play  on line poker or anything data intensive, she will run inot trouble..
For an awful lot of older folks, the pad is a perfect middle ground betwen isolation and too much technology.  I think you are doing a good thing, just try to make sure the signal part is workable.
