Giving my ipod to a new user

I am giving my ipod nano to my sister since her ipod's screen died. I no longer use it since I got a newer ipod. I want to wipe the ipod before I give it to her since she doesn't like anything I listen to. I also want it to stop saying my name on the ipod. How do I go about doing this?

Restore your iPod. Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions to rename the iPod and automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done. The iPod will default to manual mode and remain empty, you sister can choose whatever setting she likes when she connects to her own computer: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes

  • Simple question. How do you reset an ipod to a new user??

A friend gave me his old 4th generation ipod and I have
downloaded the current version of iTunes, and now I would like to erase all his music, data and name etc and put in my info, songs and data. My question is.....How do you erase all current data and reset the ipod for a new user, without downloading iTunes once again, since I have imported most of my songs and ebooks into iTunes already?
    cheers

"I would like to erase all his music, data and name etc"
Then you need to restore the iPod.
See: Restoring the iPod to factory settings.
If you want to put your name on the iPod, see :http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60952">How to rename your iPod.
Then simply connect the iPod to iTunes and let iTunes automatically update the iPod with all your music.

  • Transfer iPod Touch to new user

How do I transfer my iPod Touch to someone else and then register my new one with Apple and my iTunes account?
    Thanks

    Hello prolich,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Simply restore the iPod via iTunes and then give it away. This process will wipe all the content from the iPod and set it back to its original default settings.

For the new one, plug it in, register it, and be on your way!

  • New iPhone, Old iPod- How do I transfer the iPod to a new user?

I recently bought the iPhone 3GS. When plugged in to my computer, it synced right up with iTunes. My old iPod also works great with it. But now my husband wants my iPod and his own account. How can we open him an account with iTunes for the old iPod without losing all that is already on it? I can't find anything on transferring ownership.

What kind of iPod do you have?
If it's an iPod touch, only data from one iTunes account can be synced to it. If it's a nano or a classic, you can sync data from multiple accounts fairly easily.
    Let me know!

  • Selling my Ipod touch to new user-can apps be left on without my apple id

I am selling my Ipod touch since I recently got an iphone. Can my apps and music be left on it? I am not going to give them my apple id (obviously) but was wondering if they could still access my apps and music?? Or would the best thing to do is restore it back to factory settings?

    Hello tec367,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Or would the best thing to do is restore it back to factory settings?
Yes. They wouldn't be able to listen to any purchased music you had on there unless you authorized your account on their iTunes library and that's just unnecessary. Restoring your iPod is just the right thing to do.

  • I am a new iPod shuffle 4th Generation user and I cannot sync the music in my Windows Media play to my new iPod, can someone help?

I am a new iPod shuffle 4th Generation user and I cannot sync the music in my Windows Media play to my new iPod, can someone help?

    Hi Daisymae3,
The iPod shuffle does not use Windows Media Player to sync, it uses Apple’s iTunes application, available for free from this web site -
Apple - iTunes - Download iTunes Now
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
See also the manual for your iPod shuffle -
    User Manual iPod shuffle
    manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1550/en_US/iPod_shuffle_4thgen_User_Guide .pdf
Specifically Chapter 3 - Setting up the iPod shuffle.
iTunes is the free software application you use to set up, organize, and manage your content
    on iPod shuffle.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Same file copying up to 20x throughout songs, albums artists and genres, when syncing itunes to ipod. Restored ipod classic 3 times in lastest itunes with a new user but no difference. Anyone had this happening?

Just brought IPod Classic. When sync my iTunes library to iPod multiple files, up to 20times are copying in all music categories. Apple support got me restoring iPod then creating a whole new iTunes library in a new user on my computer. Did this, sync again, same problem. Anyone experienced this?

ps when syncing it jumps through steps 1 - 4 real fast, i seem to remeber iphone showing the number of tracks transferring and names, but i see nothing? then it sits on 5 saying "waiting for changes to be applied"

  • Creating a new user to synch ipod, ipad and iphone?

    Hi,
Apologies if this has been covered before. I'm in the middle of moving from the UK to the US. My "real" computer is in transit and I won't have access to it for a few weeks. I'm traveling with an ipad, ipod touch and I've just picked up a us iphone. I'd like to synch everything up, esp the apps between the devices I've brought with me from the UK and the iphone I've just bought.
My partner has his powerbook with him running the latest version of osx. Could I set up a second user account on his machine and synch apps, update locations on the UK devices via itunes on his machine? I don't want to interfere with his existing itunes config, if that makes sense.
    Thanks!
    Pete

That would be feasible. But understand that iDevice syncing is basically one way - computer to iDevice. Since the new user account is essentially empty, when you sync you will lose most everything on your iDevices, except the iPhone which is already empty.
To avoid this you need to start with your iPhone (nothing to lose) so you can then configure iTunes NOT to automatically sync when a device is connected. Then you need a third-party utility that can be used to transfer the contents of your other iDevices into the iTunes session you are setting up in the new user account. There are a lot of utilities for this such as Pod2Mac, PhoneDisk, etc. Look for them at CNet Downloads or MacUpdate. Use one or more of these utilities to copy the contents of your iDevices to the iTunes account. Once that's done then you won't lose that data when you sync.
One problem with the above is I don't know what you can do about your contacts, calendar, and email. You will need to arrange to get that data transferred as well. If you have a MobileMe account then all that data is on MobileMe so you can sync it to your iDevices via MobileMe.

  • Syncing iPod to new user account-need advice

Hey All! I set up a new user account for my friend on my imac, so he will want to sync his iPod Touch to iTunes, iPhoto, iCal, etc. in his new user account. I know there are plenty of freeware and shareware apps to get his music from the iPod into iTunes, but need advice concerning everything else oh his iPod.
I know I'll first get that pop up window that says his iPod is synced to another computer, and that I use "cancel" rather than "sync and erase". After doing that, I guess I use one of the shareware apps to get the music transferred over.
Now, after that, if I do a regular sync, will iTunes transfer his apps that are on the iPod?
Do I need to open iPhoto and download the photos on his iPod into iPhotot before doing a sync?
What about text messages? Will they remain in tact?
I don't think he uses the calendar on his iPod so no worries there....
What about Playlists that he has on the iPod? Will just the music transfer with the shareware apps or playlists also?
    Will Notes be saved?
Thanks for your help. Don't wanna screw up his iPod by setting up this user account for him.

Apps are tied to the ID I assume the new account is just on the iMac and not a new iTunes account?
Yes, you can import photos into iPhoto the same as you would off any camera.
You would need to transfer purchased content (like apps). You can't do that via sync as it's a new computer and all content will be erased as you are aware.

The issue you are experiencing is with installing the latest iTunes update.  I recommend following the steps below:
    Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
I understand that you have already uninstalled iTunes, but when you get to this step, it is important to uninstall iTunes and the related components in the order listed in the link for that step.

  • Ipod claims there is a "new user"

Hello. I connected my iPod today, and a message came up in iTunes saying that "there is a new user using the iTunes software, please ask user to log off." problem is, i don't know what that means. I have a vague assumption. But i haven't connected my iPod to any other computer or anything. Can Anybody help with this?

this simple means that u must only use the ipod software with one suer. If ther are other users accounts on ure computer log them out and try again. if not restart the computer and then try without logging into any one else user account.
