GL Account Short vs. Long Text

Where is the short text vs. long text used in the system for GL account descriptions? There is not enough room right now in the short text field for our account descriptions so we are concerned what the implications of using the same names across multiple accounts for the short description but putting all the correct detail in the long text field.

Normally these short text are visible when you go with F4 (drop down list), you will see the short text. As stated earlier, I would not recommend any changes to standard screens. Many of the SAP implementation that I have seen gone with the standard and used the length provided by SAP.
Business need to use more logic when they are defining short and long texts. If you are creating cost elements, note that the same short and long text will be copied to COST ELEMENTS.

Hi ,
In the transaction related to PO select the path goto->header texts and then details of the texts like ID,objectname,language,name.Pass all theses details to 'READ_TEXT ' FM. Then you will get text lines described for a perticular Po ,similarly for item also.

In ECC6,how to use tcode se63 to translate short and long texts?

In sap 4.6c, I know how to use tcode se63 to translate short and long text. However, in ecc6,when i use se63 to translate abap data element short texts, i cannot save it .A error message appare: Could not save target text Message no. SKTY000.
Can any body help me?

Short and long texts

Dear Experts,
I have many BW objects (like Infocubes, Infoobject catalogues, Infoobjects) for which no short and long texts are maintained in one language. Now, all these are in use in the production system. I have to edit the short and long texts for all of these objects. My intention on how to do it is to,
1) Logon to the Development system
2) Edit short texts manually for all of the objects.
3) Collect the changed objects in Transport organiser and transport to the productive system.
My only question is does we need to do any thing in the production system after transporting these objects for them to get reflected.
Any help and other thoughts are greatly appreciated...

Display short and long texts

Hi,
I have a hierarchy with node names more than 20 characters....The report displayes the node name with 20 char correctly, if it is more than 20 char it truncates the word and only displays 20 char....
I tried changing the Key& Text to Medium ....but it is not working....
Can anyone help....It is an urgent issue.....

Creation of short text and long text?

Hi,
We create short text by using oe_fnd_attachments_pub.create_short_text_document and oe_fnd_attachments_pub.add_attachment API and to create long text we use fnd_documents_pkg.insert_row .
Why is it that we have different approaches for creation of short text and long text?
I know that oe_fnd_attachments_pub.add_attachment is used to attach a short text to some entity,but then why we dont do the same for long text?
Please lemme knw urgently ...

I looked into the document and i got to know few things as to how short and long text are created, but can u tell when the records are inserted into fnd_attached_documents, because i can see that records are inserted into fnd_attached_short_text and fnd_attached_long_text, fnd_documents but i dont see any insertion into fnd_attached_documents, can u lemme knw how and when it is done?

I think you can enter short description & long text seprately for a WBS while creating entire struture of project in PS only. I don't think other than PS you will be able to enter short & long text for individual WBS.

Showing short , medium and long texts together

Hi,
I have 0material and have navigational attribute -subdivision.
I need subdivision to be seen in the report as following
<b>KEY | TEXT SHORT | TEXT LONG</b>
is there a way to show those together in Reporting?
I know i can show KEY- SHORT TEXT or KEY-LONG TEXT but they are not useful for me.

Hi Mete,
you need to add the subdivision as infoprovider. Create a infosource just for subdivision and short and long text. Assign the text datasource to that infosource. Add 0txtsh and 0txtlg as attributes to the subdivision. Create a update rule from your new infosource to subdivision and update the subdivision and txtsh and txslg. But here you need to concentrate on just one language. Additonally post that new infosource to the texts as well providing the language key as well.

I think you are talking about GL account name long text should not be reapeted when you are creating one more GL account.
If it is the case, It can be possible through programming. please explain the requirement to your Abaper.
Before writing program, try to create & test the validation with any expert from your side, it may be possible with some conditions (< >, =) in Validation.

Hi Chinna,
Within short and long texts, you can use placeholders, which can be replaced with the content of data objects using the MESSAGE statement. A maximum of four character-type placeholders are permitted; they are indicated by #&i# in short texts, and by #&Vi&# in long texts, where i = [1, 4]. If #&# itself is to be displayed as part of the text, it must be specified as #&&# in short texts and as "&" in long texts.
To add some detail on how to create variables in Long text, you have to go to 'commands' and in symbol option provide the variables like
&V1& &V2& and so on.

ORG UNIT TEXT Datasource (Long Text)

Hi All !
In RSA6, for the datasource 0ORGUNIT_TEXT, I can see short & medium text. But when checked the extractor structure ROTEXTSTR1, there I can see all the three text short, medium & long text. Requirement is to bring long text from the ECC. How to bring the long text from the extractor structure in the Datasource?

Check in the Table ROOSFILED , you can see the field long text (TXTLG) -- the object selection is set to 'A'
where A - Field in OLTP and BW Hidden by SAP.
Try to change the entry of selection to X and activate the entry in the table.
Where X - Selection Adjustable, Visibility Set.

Messages: replacing &V1& and &V2& in long text

Hello,
I have defined a message with short and long text.
In the short text, I use &1 and &2, in the long text I use &V1& and &V2& as described in the ABAP help.
I call the message like this:
MESSAGE w050(zmessclass) WITH i_mess1 i_mess2
I get replaced &1 and &2 in the short text but no replacement of &V1& and &V2&. How is it working in long text?

Hi,
Instead of typing the &V1& and &V2& directly into the long text editor yourself, choose the "Insert Command" function (Ctrl-F9) instead. In the popup for this function you will see several types of commands. Within the "Symbols" section type in &V1& and press enter. Repeat this for &V2&.
You will now see that &V1& and &V2& are highlighted (gray). Activate your text and try again. Your long text should now show the variables in place of &V1& and &V2&.

Amend Short & Long Text in GL A/c master

Hello All,
We created a GL account without reference to an eisting account at Chart of Accounts level. We do not attach it to any Company code. In this situation we are able to amend the short & long text of the GL account after it is saved.
But in case we create the GL account with reference to an existing account at CoA level not attaching it to any Co. code & saving it; we are now NOT able to amend the short & long text of the account. We are allowed to amend only the GL account group.
Please let me know by using what method we will be able to amend the short & long text of this GL account.
