turn it off immediatley and bring it to an Apple store, AASP, or other repair facility that speciliazes in mac repair.  This damage is not covered under warranty.  I anticipate a very expensive repair.

    DV6-6c50US - windows 7
When I type a key consecutively, it works only once. Example: I type 'business', it appears as 'busines'
Same case with any keys including arrow keys.
I tried various options with Character Repear in Control panel, but no use.
Also, I hear keypad tones which I have never heard in my laptop earlier.
Not sure, how to get this fixed.
    Please help.

    Hi,
One thing worth checking is as follows.
From windows Control Panel, open the Ease of Access Centre and click on the link 'Make the keyboard Easier to Use'.  If there is a tick in the box next to 'Turn on Sticky Keys' or 'Turn on Filter Keys', remove these and then click Apply to make the change to see if this resolves the issue.

  • HT1941 Bluetooth keyboard setup has locked up keyboard, it's looking for a wireless keyboard, none of the keys on the keyboard are functioning, I can get out of the screen, or shut down my Mac, ... anyone??

The bluetooth keyboard setup has locked my keyboard, none of the keys are functioning, holding down the power button does nothing, I don't know how I got into wireless keyboard setup, and I don't know how to get out. Anyone?

    Hi:
I wish my suggestion had gotten you further.
I do suggest you try to connect the keyboard again.  The request for a number is a step in it trying to pair.  If it gets by the number, it sometimes takes a little while to get connected.  If you are unable to get it connected and want a new one, I have been using Apple Bluetooth keyboards for years - and I like them. The one I have (the newest model) only uses two batteries and is very thin.
Speaking of batteries, if you are not already doing so, you might consider rechargeables.  I have a drawer full of them and use a 15 minute charger.  I go tired of buying batteries and rechargeables are environmentally friendly to boot. At the moment, I use 2450 mAh Energizers and a 15 minute Energizer charger (all purchased new on eBay at a very reasonable price).
I am far from an iPad "expert," although I have one.  If my suggestion below does not help, post your question in a separate thread in the iPad forum.
I had a terrible time syncing my iCal on my Mac with my iPad iCal (confusing - hopefully it makes sense).  I quit using iCloud as that added to the confusion. There is a facility to one-time sync items.  When you connect your computer to your iPad, iTunes opens.  The system begins a process (automatic backup and so on). After it finishes, you can click on "info."  At the bottom of the screen, there is an advanced section.  You can select any of the items and then force it to sync. The iCal information from your computer would be deposited on the iPad.
After all that, I do not use a Google calendar so the information may be worthless to you.
If you want to reset the iPad to factory settings, you can do that when it is connected to iTunes (one of the options).  Me being me, I try never to erase anything.

Hi!  While performing windows updates on my HP split x2 laptop machine with Windows 8.1 64 bits, i encountered the error 80070002. This error is relatd to windows update on HP Dev Company Keyboard Standard 101/102 key   I have google any tried all the methods that i have found a) use windows update troubleshot -> it claimed fixed the problem. But when rerun the windows update, it encountered same failure.b) delete the contents in the Windows\SoftwareDistribution folders, reboot, and rerun windows update. Still facing same error.  Pls kindly advice me how to fix this error? I would say most of the tricks that i have learnt from the Google is not helpful.Otherwise, i won't spend my time post in this forum. Kindly pls refer to atach screen shots.   Thank you very much!

Nkboy, I received the same update today marked as Optional (HP Pavilion 17 Notebook).  I have not been able to find any info on this update.  Clicked on the "more information" on my HP Support Assistant and got nothing.  I need someone to inform me exactly what this update does and if i really need it since it says "optional".  It also stated that this was Released in July 2013 and published today 7/6/15 --- confusing re the date released and published. Also, received another "optional" update  from HP Inc. - Other Hardware - HP Wireless Button Driver..... no additional info on this update either.

What do you do if some of your keys on your keyboard aren't working ?! Any suggestions ??

Yeah, a portable bluetooth keyboard is the cheapest solution. You can replace the top deck yourself without too much tinkering if you are a little mechanically minded. Most replacement services on the net charge from $150 to replace it. You can buy refurbished top decks from $50 or so. Unfortunately, the keyboard is part of the top case and not an individual part.
One thing to note: If you do decide to buy one and DIY, make sure you get the exact one for your model cos the connectors do vary slightly.

  • Wireless Keyboard Shortcut for Home Key

I have the wireless keyboard w/o the keypad which I use with my Mini.
On my MBP, the fn-Up Arrow key combination functions as the Home key on keyboards with the built-in keypad. This shortcut doesn't work on the wireless keyboard.
Do I have to define the shortcut in the SysPre/KB Shortcuts? Or is there something I need to turn on? Or...?
    TIA.

Well, it works today. Problem solved. Thanks for looking.

  • Keyboard, touchpad and assist button not working

Hello, I have a touchscreen VAIO laptop on which the keyboard, touchpad and assist button are not working. The touckscreen keyboard works, and if a plug in a bluetooth USB mouse it works too. Te problem as I said before is with the touchpad and physical keyboard, which don't work even in the BIOS inicialization. I tried the assist button but it doesn't work neither. Instead of accessing VAIO Care, it turns the computer on. I also tried to restore the system and update drives, but with no success. The problem started with some bubbles on the screen that freezed the computer. I restarted it and only the keyboard was working (the light under it was on) but the display was off. Then I restarted it again, and again and now only the dispaly is on (I can access Windows 8 via touchscreen), and the rest of it is off (not working, leds off, etc).

    Hi Damares,
Thank you for considering Sony Community!
I am sorry to hear your issues but it seems that you are experience a combination of hardware and software issues. First, the Assist button should work when you press it. Try to press Assist button again while the unit is off (just in case you were trying to use it while the unit is off).
Power cycle the unit - Remove the battery and all peripherals -> press and hold the power button for 5 seconds OR, if the battery is not removable, remove all peripherals-> look for a battery off button on the bottom of the laptop -> push the button for 5 seconds.
Test again the unit. If this won't push through then we highly suggest to visit Sony's Authorized Service Center in your area.
For further assistance, we kindly recommend visiting our Sony Global Web site for information on contacting the Sony Support Center in your region at http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/Support/.

  • Black plastic strip that connects the screen to the keyboard is cracked, ideas for fixing without replacing the whole screen?

The black plastic strip that connects the top portion (screen) to the bottom portion (keyboard) is cracked and getting pretty bad. I brought it in to get fixed, but I was told it is just a costmetic problem. I am worried that soon it will be cracked completely. Is there any way to just replace that portion without replacing the entire screen?

I completely agree. If it does crack all the way through, does it effect the use of the computer though?
I'm just trying to plan ahead.

All new keyboards need Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and above for full functionality.
Rather short-sighted of Apple perhaps, but that seems to be a trend these days.
I'm afraid the only fix is to upgrade to SL. Personaly, I'd take it back and get a refund and seek an older keyboard or a third-party one elsewhere.

  • Feature Suggestion for Keyboard System Preferences - Modifier Keys

I recently picked up an iMac and it came with the new low-profile aluminum small keyboard -- without the keypad.
I really like the small keyboard except for one thing -- the placement of the fn and control keys. The larger keyboard has three modifier keys on the left side: Control, Option, Command. The small keyboard has four: fn, Control, Option, Command.
It is annoying to switch between keyboards where the control key is in a different spot on each one. Retraining my finger on a per-keyboard basis is hard.
Apple thoughtfully provided in System Preferences a Keyboard control panel and it thoughtfully provided a "Modifier Keys..." popup to allow you to reassign the modifer keys. A great feature.
The problem is: you can't use this to modify the behavior of the 'fn' key. It is apparently hardcoded.
If I could use the modifier keys dialog to change the 'fn' into a 'Control', then I could use this keyboard without swearing everytime I miss the control key.
Another feature that would be great would be if I could also have different bindings for the modifers on the left side versus the modifiers on the right. That would allow me to reassign one of the right side modifier keys (that I never use) to be an 'fn' key.

I'm in the exact same boat as you...that Fn key is driving me nuts. I tried DoubleCommand and some other things as well, but the only thing that's coming close to what I want is a free download called "KeyRemap4MacBook."
Just go under the "Remap Fn Key" section and you can basically have it act as the Command key. (I actually always had my Command and Control keys swapped, so now both the Fn and Control keys now essentially act as the Command key.)
There are a few quirks I haven't figured out -- I can't seem to do Forward Delete -- but again, it's the only thing I've found so far that works.

  • I need to use the "apple key" which is, I presume the command key, but I do not have an apple keyboard; is there a key on a logitech keyboard which will serve the purpose?

I need to use the "Apple key" which I presume is the command key; my computer does not have an apple keyboard; is there a key on a logitech keyboard which will serve the same purpose?

The "Windows flag" key on PC keyaboard in Commans, "Alt" is option.
Go to Logitech website to see if they have Mac compatibility software (Logictech Control Center) to make mappings a bit more complex).

Hello Trwalker and welcome to Apple Support Communities,
If your onboard keyboard works that's got to be a hardware problem w/ your wireless.
Did you check under the key for smutz. What kind of keyboard?
