GLC-BX-D(U) SFP

Hello. I'm choosing SFP for cisco 3750-X. In datasheet for GLC-BX-U(D) min transmit power is -9 dBm, min receive power is -19.5 dB. So max insertion loss in channal is about 10.5 dB. But in this datasheet it's just 5.5 dB for GLC-BX-D and 6 dB for GLC-BX-U. In that case, what max loss is right?

I think they are just saying it can have any  value between the range  for Transmit/Receive but Max Insertion loss they are going to suspport is 5.5/6dBm.
Cisco is going to provide Max Insetion loss of  5.5 /6 dBm for those cards. So if the transmit power is -8dBm you can expect receiver sensitivity to be -13.5 to -14 dBm. For any problem cisco is going to support for 5.5 /6 dBm of loss.
It is possible that you can get more Max Insertion Loss (means distance) but don't expect Cisco to support it. With -9 dBm as Min Tranmit it is impossible to get the -19.5 dBm the Min Receive Sensititvity so possible they are thinking to extend some spec for more distance in future.

  • GLC-SX-MM - GE SFP, LC connector SX transceiver

    Hello,
Can you please confirm this part "GLC-SX-MM - GE SFP, LC connector SX transceiver" is enough to connect two Cisco switches WS-C3750X-48PF-S with LC to LC Fiber multimode Optic Cable
    Rgrds,
    Alex

Could you clarify: "enough" of what?
This GLC-SX-MM transceiver can connect the two switches over multimode cable.  The distance between the switches will depend upon the type of multimode fiber being used.

  • GLC-LX-SM-RGD SFP for 15kms

    Hi Guys,
    My first post.
    I have a L2 network spanning 12km, 13km, 14km and 16km.
Have purchased GLC-LX-SM-RGD and now I notice that the specs say 10km. I am commissioning next week and want to know will the SFP shoot that distance ? Will it help to set the speed on the interface to 10mbps to get the link working ?
Thanks in advance and really appreciate your comments and feedback.

Optical budget is not 16-17dBm but around 10-10.5dBm a realistic. Take the lowest value of Transmit level not highest. So should be fine and you can test but these transmit values can change over time.So if you are very close not worth to take chance.
Hope the existing 10Km hop is using the same kind of SFP means working on 1300nm not 1500nm.

  • C7201 & GLC-BX-D/U=

  • C2960S switches reset SFP+ ports hourly

We have several C2960S switches that seem to reset their uplink SFP+ ports at the same time each hour. It looks like it's only a brief reset but any Cisco phones we have attached to these switches will lose their connectivity to our Subscriber and reset. Has anyone else seen this? We are running iOS 15.2(2a)E1 due to a different error we were having (%ENTROPY errors), and Cisco TAC recommended we upgrade to the latest code. I included a "sho log" to demonstrate what I'm talking about. The interface in question is Gi1/0/49 which has a GLC-T in it that uplinks to our Data Center switches.

I see you have 2960s, but there is know bug for the 2960-X series regarding GLC-T and other SFPs.
So, this maybe effecting your switch as well but not sure.

  • Glc-fe-100bx-d ,crc error with ME 3400 --(ME-3400-24FS-A )

    hi
when i try to connect (glc-fe-100bx-d) sfp with my cisco switch ME3400 (ME-3400-24FS-A),
    i got this error (
GBIC_SECURITY_CRYPT-4-VN_DATA_CRC_ERROR: GBIC in port Fa0/15 has bad crc)
So I try to change the software release   from (Cisco IOS Release 12.2(55)SE) , to (Cisco IOS Release 12.2(40)SE) and (Cisco IOS Release 12.2(58)SE2) ,
but It give’s same error message .
    Thank You

This error is due to an unsupported GBIC in the switch, there are a couple of undocumented commands that may work on some switches to allow the GBICs to work, try these commands:
    service unsupported-transceiver
    no errdisable detect cause gbic-invalid
Failing that you may have to try and find another GBIC that is supported.
If the Catalyst switch is running IOS 12.2(25)SE and above, the commands are available with the ? before that they are hidden so you won't see them, just enter them and they should be accepted.
Also bear in mind that they are unsupported for a reason and it probably isn't a good idea to use them in a production network.
Cisco TAC won't help with any fault finding until they are replaced either.

  • Cisco 10Gb WDM SFP+

    Hello All!
I need to migrate 2 Data Center connection from 2x1Gb to 2x10Gb. I have only 2 dark SM fiber available. Now I have 2 pair of GLC-BX10-U/GLC-BX10-D WDM SFP. Every pair use one fiber. Now I'm searching for Cisco certified SFP+ 10GB WDM, to get one 10Gb over one fiber. But now have find only some compatible like SNR-SFP+W37-20. Who know have cisco any plan to product 10Gb WDM SFP+ and is it danger us to use other vendor SPF?
    Thank you for the help!

I just noticed that Cisco has a 1310nm/1550nm solution: Part Number WDM-1300-1550-S=.  It is outlined on the following page.
    https://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/modules/ps5455/ps6575/product_data_sheet0900aecd8029d01b_ps708_Products_Data_Sheet.html
I have not seen anything announced by Cisco for the release of a 10G bi-directional SFP+.
How far apart are the data centers?
You might consider using a pair of third-party WDM filters on each fiber.  The WDM filter creates two virtual fibers out of one fiber.  At one end of the link, you install a 1310nm SFP+ transceiver in your equipment and the other end you install a 1550nm SFP+ transceiver in your equipment. This is functionally similar to what is integrated into the 1G single fiber SFP solution.
There are other solutions (DWDM), but the price tag increases significantly (but will scale in bandwidth in the future without adding fibers).
    Just my 2 cents.

c2921 router will not bring up fibre SFP
I can't get two cisco 2921 routers to talk to each other
the setup works find in my testbed with a rj45 cross over cable between them or even with a WANEM cloud emulator(free tool).
after migrating from CU  to fibre they won't to talk to each other anymore. worse, both refuse to bring up their wan side fibre SFP.
the "media-type" sub i/f command was used to change to SFP from RJ45
after that, the EN SFP light appears on both routers, but no link light

the two routers are in different buildings and must pass through a middle building(#2)

    R1 (in building 1) is 200m from building 2
    R2 (in building 3) is 900M from building 2
R1 has a MM SFP in Gi 0/1
R2 has a SM SFP in Gi 0/1 as the distance is too far for MM
in building two we have used both a SM to MM media converter
and a layer two switch with SM and MM SFP,
    both show similar results
R1(MM sfp) --MM cable-- (MM sfp) switch (SM sfp) --SM cable--(SM sfp)R2
on the switch( in Bld 2), we see links lights coming out of the two routers, for both SM and MM links, this is good and expected. no traffic is seen though
on either router, no link light is seen and both interfaces are down down. shut, no shut, does not bring them up
we have tried different SFP and cables, still no change
one google search mentions an undocumented ciso command to ignore incompatibale SFP, but that does not work in IOS 15
if we add a 3750 switch to the routers Gi 0/1 WAN side as a media converter, we get success.
each switch has two sfp, one Cu and the other MM or SM fibre .
the router "media-type" sub i/f command was used to change to RJ45 from SFP, after that, the SFP EN lights goes out(as expected) on both routers,
R1(CU)-(CU)3750(MM sfp) --MMcable-- (MM sfp) switch (SM sfp) --SMcable--(SM sfp)-(SM sfp)3750(CU)R2
why does this work and the connection on the rtr does not

this test is not practical in the deployed field and far too expensive

  • GBIC and SFP Module

    HI , Welcome for All
I am putting two series widely in my new network , which are 500 and 3500 series , but here I am getting confused to select the Interface Module , Should I opt GLC-SX-MM or WS-G5484
    Thanks
    Praveen 9212 506 503

    500 supports only GLC-SX-MM and GLC-LH-SM
GLC-SX-MM is SFP while WS-G5484 is GBIC they both operate in ordinary multimode fibre
You may opt to GLC-SX-MM for 500 and WS-G5484 for 3500. But you should tell us the exact model of you 3500.

  • SFP-10G-AOC10M does not detected by WS-C2960X-48FPD-L

    Hello.
I've got two SFP-10G-AOC10M optical transceiver modules, and want to use them as uplinks for Catalyst 2960-x switch stack to 4500-X.
When I insert SFP modules to Cat2960-X I get next messages in log:
%PHY-4-SFP_NOT_SUPPORTED: The SFP in Gi4/0/50 is not supported
    %PM-4-ERR_DISABLE: gbic-invalid error detected on Gi4/0/50, putting Gi4/0/50 in err-disable state

    %PM-4-ERR_DISABLE: gbic-invalid error detected on Gi5/0/50, putting Gi5/0/50 in err-disable state
Looks like switches detected this modules as 1G not 10G.
According to Cisco 10-Gigabit Ethernet Transceiver Modules Compatibility Matrix these modules should be supported by Cat 2960-X with 15.0(2)EX IOS release. I had 15.0(2)EX5 release and even upgraded to 15.0(2a)EX5.

    Any ideas?

    Hello.
That is the problem. Switch has 48 Gigabit ports and they appear as Gi4/0/1-Gi4/0/48. And two uplink ports for SFP or SFP+ modules. 10Gig uplinks module should be detected as Te4/0/1 and Te4/0/2. Gigabit will be detected as Gi4/0/49 and Gi4/0/50.
Once I insert SFP-10G-AOC10M to the switch uplink port I get messages in logs:
%PHY-4-SFP_NOT_SUPPORTED: The SFP in Gi4/0/50 is not supported
    %PM-4-ERR_DISABLE: gbic-invalid error detected on Gi4/0/50, putting Gi4/0/50 in err-disable state
So instead to be detected as Te4/0/2 it is detected as Gi4/0/50.
I've tried to insert into uplink ports two other modules: GLC-T (1gig) and SFP-H10GB-CU3M. And they are detected correctly(see two last outputs in first post).

  • GLC-T= with 3750-24TS

Does anybody know if the GLC-T= 1000Base-T SFP module works in a 3750-24TS switch? And if it does, can I bond 2 GLC-T modules in an etherchannel pair connected to a 3750G-24T switch?
    Thanks,
    Diego

Yes it is supported. Please check the compatibility matrix at:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/modules/ps5455/products_device_support_table09186a0080446625.html
I do not think you should have any issues in bonding them to other UTP ports in a second switch. That being said it is always good to test this in a lab before trying in production.
