  • 100BASE-BX10-U or GLC-FE-100LX-RGD ?

    Hi all.
I have AIR-LAP1522 and I need to connect it via fiber. Documentation says, that on 1522 side I should use
100BASE-BX10-U module. As I know it is a module for 100-MB ports, 1310 nm TX/1550 nm RX wavelength, 10 km over single-strand SMF.
My question is, can I use GLC-FE-100LX-RGD (GLC-FE-100LX) instead 100BASE-BX10-U and use pair of SMF?
    I  have single mode FO.
And second question is, where is a diiference between GLC-FE-100LX-RGD and GLC-FE-100LX?
    Best regards Marcin

The rugged (GLC-FE-100LX-RGD) transceiver should be comaptible as long as you have two strands (duplex fiber).
I wouldn't advise using the non-rugged transceiver (GLC-FE-100LX) as the difference is the rated operating temparature. It's
0 to 70°C (32 to 158°F) for the commercial, non-rugged transceivers and -40 to 85°C (-40 to 185°F) for the industrial (RGD) types. Reference the data sheet.

  • Cannot change duplex parameters on IE3000-8TC.

I noticed my Gigabit Ethernet 1 interface was set for half duplex and I want to change it to full duplex, no big deal right? when I go to change it I just get unrecognised command. When I do a ? I do not see duplex or speed commands at all. Is there something I am missing? I have read through the IE3000-8TC documentation and it says I should be able to change the duplexing on the Gigabit Ethernet ports like normal.

Hi, I just worked with a customer on this exact issue today.  In order to hardcode the speed and duplex settings on the uplink ports you need to first set the media type.  Try this:
    int gig 1/1
     media-type rj45
     speed 100
     duplex full

  • GLC-LX-SM-RGD SFP for 15kms

    Hi Guys,
    My first post.
    I have a L2 network spanning 12km, 13km, 14km and 16km.
Have purchased GLC-LX-SM-RGD and now I notice that the specs say 10km. I am commissioning next week and want to know will the SFP shoot that distance ? Will it help to set the speed on the interface to 10mbps to get the link working ?
Thanks in advance and really appreciate your comments and feedback.
    - Alvin

    1000BASE-LX/LH
    -3 to -9.5
    -3 to -20

Optical budget is not 16-17dBm but around 10-10.5dBm a realistic. Take the lowest value of Transmit level not highest. So should be fine and you can test but these transmit values can change over time.So if you are very close not worth to take chance.
Hope the existing 10Km hop is using the same kind of SFP means working on 1300nm not 1500nm.

  • How to upgrade GLC-SX-MM to GLC-SX-MM-RGD ?

    Hi, guys,
I'm planning to use 1552E APs to upgrade the cisco GLC-SX-MM GE SFP, LC connector SX transceiver to GLC-SX-MM-RGD with my cisco 3750X series. Can anyone confirm this or has used the rugged SFP with Catalyst 3750X switch ?

  • Cisco IE-3000 8TC doesn't recogze 4SM fiber sfp module

Have a few Cisco IE-3000 8TC switches with the  4SM FIber SFP expansion modules. The switches do not discover these ports at all. I'm assuming that thhere is a fix or firmware upgrade, would appreciate any help.

    Isgabrillo, Please see below.
I wasn't able to see a PID for the SFP's, but they are Cisco GLC-FE-100LX
THe switch doesn't seem to recognize the 4SM module that is currently attached. As I stated, I have a few already installed in the field that I am not able to contact right now, but have the same issue. I think I read in a blog somewhere that someone had the same issue and there was an IOS update that cured it.

  • LC-FE-100LX

I'm trying to connect 2 Catalyst 2960S over multimode 62,5my fiber cable.
I use LC-FE-100LX spf's but theone end is always operating in half duplex mode.
My final goal is an etherchannel running 2x100mbit in full duplex mode.
I have an etherchannel configured but for the moment i'm only using one link (Gi1/0/25)
when i specify duplex full on both interfaces one interface operate in half duplex(but still link up) and connectivity.

Why is one end operating in half-duplex mode????
Can't find any specs for GLC-100-LX over multimode fiber.
I assume that specs are the same as 1G LX spf's over multimode with a mode conditioning patch core
    Regards

Like Tom says, the GLC-FE-100LX SFP is singlemode fiber only. You'll be shining a laser (coherent signal) down a medium (MMF) not designed for optimum propagation of that type of signal. Any signal you recover at the other end will be the luck of the draw as opposed to by design.
The mode conditioning patch cable can mitigate this for a small subset of transceivers and give you a working setup but unfortunately that does not include the one you are using. (Reference) You didn't mention; but is your MMF link OM1, 2 or 3 rated?

  • GLC-GE-100FX vs GLC-FE-100FX Which to Use?

What is the differance between the GLC-GE-100FX and GLC-FE-100FX modules. I thought all SFP ports on switches were Gigabit ports and thus the GE version would be needed for 100fx connectivity. Which switches would you use each SFP in? In particular I need to know which ones to use in a 2960-24PC-L switch and a 3560-8PC Switch.

If you look closer at that compatibility matrix that Paulo and I posted the other day the FE is for 100BASE-FX SFP module for 100-MB ports and the GE is for 100BASE-FX SFP module for Gigabit Ethernet ports. Not all SFP slots are Gig.
Here is the compatiblity matrix again.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/interfaces_modules/transceiver_modules/compatibility/matrix/OL632702.html
For the 3560 here are the compatible SFPs
    GLC-FE-100FX
    GLC-FE-100LX
    GLC-FE-100BX-D
    GLC-FE-100BX-U
And for the 2960, Paulo stated that all of the 100FX SFPs are compatible.

Thank you so much for yor help !

    Thank you Leo,
It doesn't work, but I found an solution !
    A strange solution...
I forced the C2960G-24TC-L to work with SFP :
    media-type sfp
When I do that, I have the possibility to force the duplex (but not the speed... ok why not... ) :
    duplex full
It is not very clean but my link is up and full-100 both sides.
    Not very clean because :
C2960 side = force duplex, auto speed
SF200 side = auto duplex, auto speed
No errors... the link is clean.
Anyone known the reason or a better solution ?

  • 100BaseFX and Cisco Catalyst 3750G

    Hi,
I need some help, I have a factory plant running some IE 3000 and Rockwell Stratix 8000 with GLC-FE-100FX-RGD transceiver to some older switches I need to replace the idea is to use Cisco 3750G, I saw in the Cisco 3750G datasheet a GLC-GE-100FX= transceiver would they work together point-to-point? what sort of connector do they use are they LC also?
The idea is to use 100BaseFX MM because of the costs, distance (800M) and the bandwith being light.
    Thank You

The GLC-GE-100FX= and the GLC-FE-100FX-RGD SFPs have the same optical performance specifications, so they will interoperate across a link.  The RGD SFP has a higher operating temperature range for industrial applications (per data sheet), where the IE 3000 is typically installed.
    Hope this helps!

  • 1000BASE-LX compatible with 100BASE-LX

I have a optical network designed over singlemode fiber. All my communication modules are based on the standard 1000BASE-LX, which is the GLC-LH-SM SFP module. However, I would like to add to my network an external component rated at 1310 nm and 100 Mbps, which is the same wavelength but a lower speed. This external component is not available on a Gigabytes speed and I am stuck with this one.
Can I connect them together, or do I have to change my SFP module with one based on the 100BASE-LX standard, like the GLC-FE-100LX ?
Also, do you have some good references where I could easily get this kind of information ?
    Thank you for your time.

A 100M optical interface with 30dB link budget would most likely be a 100Base-EX (extended reach).  It could interoperate with an LX10 if the link is within the LX10s budget (<10km) and the optical receive power at the LX10 transceiver is within the receiver's posted operating range (min/max).
Many vendors have optical transceivers that reach outside the IEEE standards because they are typically bookended; the same product used at both ends of the link.  When you mix vendors, it is good to keep with the standards based optics so that it is easy to engineer and maintain the links; especially as technicians come and go and the network documentation may not be maintained.

  • Link Fail Alarm - SFP Ports

    Hello,
I have been trying to configure the Link Fail Alarm on SFP ports for a Cisco CGS2520 (Cisco CGS-2520-16S-8PC).
    SFP: GLC-FE-100FX-RGD (10-2360-02).
I can create a new Alarm Profile and attach it to the Ports that I want to monitor. The update Profile can then be saved to the startup-config and the configuration can be viewed as being correct.
If I then pull a fibre cable the Alarm is generated as expected.
However when I reboot the Switch the Alarm Profile is still within the configuration but it is no longer attached to the ports (i.e. the Alarm Profile configuration is shown on the startup-config however the running-config does not contain the alarm profile on the SFP port). Therefore when the Fibre Cable is removed no alarm is generated.
I have run through the procedure as defined in Chapter 7 of the Cisco CGS2520 Configuration Guide and as stated above copied the running-config to the startup-config.
Is anyone able to advise why the port attachment is lost when the switch is restarted – the Alarm Profile is retained.
    Thank you,
