Glibc and gnome

Hi,
Ive just installed gnome and when some packages have been installed I received this error message many times:
glibc detected *** double free or corruption...
And now gnome works but applets doesnt works and many things arent working fine.
Ive read a thread about this but, no one have sent a solution, so I'll reask for one.
Could someone help me with this ? Please?:P
Thanks!

Ok first, the first topic was here so I done mine here too.
Here's the first
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … corruption
The error is when I run pacman to install something pacman said something like this:
bleh install... done
*** glibc detected *** double free or corruption blablabla
And the "something" that I've just installed is'nt working fine, like gnome applets, gnome terminal etc. Here's what happen when I try to run gnome terminal: gnome-terminal: symbol lookup error: gnome-terminal: undefined symbol: sn_launchee_context_get_id_has_timestamp
The most of gnome's icons aren't there and many things are just don't working...
Thanks for your future help

  • [SOLVED] After upgrade gdm and Gnome don't work.

    Hi,
    after I did an upgrade I had some ldconfig: errors and fixed them all using pkgfile and reinstallation of quite some packages.
    But now starting gdm with
    # systemctl start gdm
    only leads to a black screen with a cross shaped cursor I can move. Nothing more.
    Xorg works -- I'm writing this post from KDE.
    I reinstalled gnome and gnome-extra. Still no success.
    System is up to date.
    Hopefully my logs will help, I have no idea what to do. Thanks for any help. :)

    Finally managed fixed it.
    libcanberra-pulse from [extra] was broken. I reinstalled it with --force.
    Likely that came with the recent pulseaudio upgrade.

  • No TV sound - Problem with Pulseaudio and Gnome

    Hi Community!
    Since January 2013 I got big problems with the sound of my tvcard. The card is a Sundtek Media TV Pro. But after all the problems have nothing to to with the card itself!
    So far I found out, that the problem is with Pulseaudio.
    - Sound works under Windows on same PC.
    - Sound don't work under Arch - not with tvtime, not with vlc, etc.
    - Problem occurs even on a new installed system with the Arch-2013-02-01 install medium.
    cat /etc/mediasrv.log
    [1033] Pulseaudio connect reported an error (6 - Connection refused)
    [1033] select error() in audio processor (can be caused because of pulseaudio) (Interrupted system call)
    After setting up a new Arch installation with just xorg-server, gnome, tvtime and the sundtek driver from AUR I run journalctl -b:
    Feb 10 16:25:15 hightower pulseaudio[636]: [pulseaudio] pid.c:
    Daemon already running.
    With sudo journalctl | grep 'Feb 10 16:2' I get the following output:
    Feb 10 16:25:01 hightower rtkit-daemon[489]: Successfully made thread 488 of process 488 (/usr/bin/pulseaudio) owned by '120' high priority at nice level -11.

    Feb 10 16:28:55 hightower pulseaudio[997]: [pulseaudio] main.c: Start des Daemons fehlgeschlagen.
    So, if I understand right, pulseaudio is alreade started by the rtkit-daemon and gnome couldn't start it again.
    At https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/30926 I found a hint concerning /etc/xdg/autostart/pulseaudio.desktop and /etc/xdg/autostart/pulseaudio-kde.desktop.
    After removing them from /etc/xdg/autostart and running journalctl -b there are no more errors.
    With sudo journalctl | grep 'pulseaudio' I get:
    sudo journalctl | grep 'Feb 10 17:4' | grep 'pulse*'
    Feb 10 17:41:42 hightower rtkit-daemon[485]: Successfully made thread 484 of process 484 (/usr/bin/pulseaudio) owned by '120' high priority at nice level -11.

    In my opinion all looks ok! I also checked the channels with the alsamixer and it looks good, too.
    So I ran vlc v4l2://:dev=/dev/video0:width=720:height=576:tuner-frequency=510750:adev=/dev/null:standard=255 - but still no sound.
    With cat /var/log/mediasrv.log I checked the drivers logfile:

    I started tvtime again. This time I ran rm -rf ~/.config/pulse/ and killall pulseaudio to kill the Pulseaudio server. I instantly got a loud noise out of my speakers.
    I closed tvtime and re-opened it. And there it was: TV SOUND OUT OF MY SPEAKERS!
    But now, when I run pavucontrol I get:
    Connection to PulseAudio failed. Automatic retry in 5s.
    In this cas this is likely because PULSE_SERVER in the Environment/X11 root Windows Properties or default-server in client.conf is misconfigured.
    This situation can also arrise when PulseAudio crashed and left stale details in the X11 Root Windows.
    If this is the case, then PuseAudio should autospawn again, or if this is not configured you sould run start-pulseaudio-x11 manually.
    I got the information from Sundtek, that Pulseaudio should not be started as system service. Instead, every user should have an own Pulseaudio daemon and that PA was concepted this way. But they don't know how it is implemented in ArchLinux.
    I also don't know it exactly. So the question to all you ArchLinu pro's:
    How is PA implemented in Arch? And how can I sustainable solve my problem?
    Thank you for your time and help!
    Durag

    There is just one more thing I found out.
    After logging into Gnome and running ps aux | grep pulse I get:
    rebel 727 0.7 0.2 444316 10288 ? S<l 03:02 0:00 /usr/bin/pulseaudio --start --log-target=syslog
    rebel 731 0.0 0.0 71236 2652 ? S 03:02 0:00 /usr/lib/pulse/gconf-helper
    rebel 843 0.0 0.0 17396 1184 pts/0 D+ 03:03 0:00 grep pulse
    To get the sound to work I run:
    rm -rf .config/pulse/
    killall pulseaudio
    killall -9 pulseaudio
    I again run ps aux | grep pulse
    rebel 4016 4.2 0.2 510124 11528 ? Sl 03:06 0:02 /usr/bin/pulseaudio --start --log-target=syslog
    rebel 4020 0.0 0.0 71368 2700 ? S 03:06 0:00 /usr/lib/pulse/gconf-helper
    rebel 4046 0.0 0.0 19456 1216 pts/0 R+ 03:07 0:00 grep pulse
    I can recognize that the STATs have changed. Maybe this can help to solve the problem?

    quoted from a previous thread
    I solved it by uncommenting my <locale><charset> in /etc/locale.gen.
    First you have to enable the locales you want being supported by your system. To enable or disable them, the file /etc/locale.gen is used. It contains every locale you can enable, and you have just to uncomment lines you want to do so.
    As we want to setup an english UTF-8 conform system, we want to enable en_US.UTF-8. But for compatibility to programs that don't support UTF-8 yet, it's recommended to support any other locale, prefixed with en_US as well. Having this in mind, we enable this set of locales:
    en_US.UTF8 UTF-8
    en_US ISO-8859-1
    After you've enabled the necessary locales, you have to run locale-gen as root to update them:
    # sudo locale-gen
    Generating locales...
    en_US.UTF-8... done
    en_US.ISO-8859-1... done
    Generation complete.

  • How do i recompile whole system with glibc and gcc from test

    I always run testing and hence upgraded all my system a couple of days back. How ever one pprogram i use very often, BLENDER isn't working after i upgraded glibc and gcc4. I have recompiled it but when I get all this errors when i start it http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=21825.
    I think i need to rcompile all its dependant programs with new glibc and gcc from testing also. Problem is I dentifying which programs to compile is proving a pain as the dependant programs also depend on other programs etc...
    Is there a way to recompile my whole system without having to do it one by one?

    if you want to compile everything, gentoo is an option. But abs is excellent too.
    P.S. Gentoo's compilation drove me out of it

  • [Solved] Latest glibc and binutils and skype

    I have noticed that since the last update to glibc and binutils it is not possible to input non-english characters in skype, they will be converted to a question mark inside a black square.
    Downgrading to the previous packages solves the problem, however it doesn't seem to be a good idea to ignore the upgrade of these packages for too long.
    Any ideas on how to work around this?
    I guess I should probably submit a bug report but it's a bit late here already and I'd like to read some comments on this first.
    Edit:
    Marking as solved.

    I got another program written in c++ wich uses the opengl (i made it myself) that is not working now.
    I updated the gcc + gcc-libs + glibc + kernel + kernel headers
    you got the output of the app here:

    I'm running the i686 arch
    ~ $ pacman -Qs glibc

  • Do I need glibc and coreutils in PKGBUILD depends?

    I'm submitting a package to the AUR and the only two packages it depends on are glibc and coreutils. The Arch wiki says (basically) not to include packages that are guaranteed to already be on everyone's system. Since both of those packages are essential packages and part of the base group, do I need to include them in the depends array of the PKGBUILD, or can I just leave it empty?
    PS: I apologize if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find anything specific when I searched for this.

    Allan wrote:Include them.  Although an Arch system without glibc has issues...
    Ok, based on both of your input and looking at other packages, I think I will include glibc but not coreutils. If I do 'pacman -Qi coreutils' on my system there's only 5 packages that list it as a dependency, as opposed to ~50 that list glibc. Plus, the only reason it needs coreutils is for cp and rm, and a system without those commands probably can't even run a package manager let alone install my package
    Thanks!

  • [SOLVED] glibc and filesystem simultaneous upgrade

    Hi!
    I wanted to upgrade my archlinux system today (last update mid of may) and I have some problems to do it. The system has to update more than 550 packages and I'm having some problems with the process...
    If I use:
    pacman -Syu
    I got the error message:
    error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
    glibc: /lib exists in filesystem
    filesystem: /var/lock exists in filesystem
    filesystem: /var/run exists in filesystem
    Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded
    Then, I tried with:
    pacman -Syu --ignore glibc
    and I got:
    error: preparing the transaction (dependences cannot be satisfied)
    :: libcanberra-pulse: needs libcanberra=0.28-4
    :: pyqt: needs python-sip
    Then, I tried:
    pacman -Syu --ignore filesystem && pacman -S filesystem --force
    and I got:
    error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
    glibc: /lib exists in filesystem
    Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded
    Does anybody know how can I update the system?
    Thanks for the help!

  • [SOLVED] Glibc and filesystem update, I screwed it up

    Hi,
    I read the announcement and tried to update via "pacman -Syu", however pacman gave the message
    filesystem: /usr/lib64 exists in filesystem
    Ok, so I did
    pacman -Syu --ignore filesystem glibc
    Unfortunately I didn't think of 'ignoring' lib32-glibc and I think this screwed everything up:
    sudo pacman -Syu --ignore filesystem glibc

  • I3 and gnome-session

    trying to use i3 with gdm and gnome-session, following the same steps as using xmonad and awesome. gnome-session crashes about 30 seconds after it starts. i3 is running properly before that.
    /usr/share/xsessions/i3-gnome.desktop:
    [Desktop Entry]
    Name=i3 GNOME
    Comment=Dynamic window manager
    TryExec=/usr/bin/gnome-session
    Exec=gnome-session --session=i3
    Type=XSession
    /usr/share/gnome-session/sessions/i3.session
    [GNOME Session]
    Name=i3 session
    RequiredComponents=gnome-settings-daemon;
    RequiredProviders=windowmanager;notifications;
    DefaultProvider-windowmanager=i3
    DefaultProvider-notifications=notification-daemon
    ~/.xsession-errors (after the i3 init stuff):
    gnome-session[9169]: WARNING: Application 'i3.desktop' failed to register before timeout
    [src/xcb.c:698] ERROR: X11 connection was closed unexpectedly - maybe your X server terminated / crashed?
    (notification-daemon:9225): Gdk-WARNING **: notification-daemon: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.

    XIO: fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server ":0"

    i feel like gnome-session shouldn't crash if it's only throwing a warning. there's not much info here. as far as i know, i3 logs to ~/.xsession-errors anyway.

    I switched nvidia card for ati and its solved my problem so far.

  • I have Kdemod and Gnome but when i am in Gnome i want Nautilus

    I have installed kdemod and gnome but when i am in gnome when i go to "Places", all folder are opened with dolphin. But i want to use dolphin when i am in kde4. Is there a way to resolve it?

    Yeah I've noticed this aswell, it's not just dolhpin. If you have anyother file manager installed gnome uses that instead. Can't help though sorry.

  • KDE and GNOME install no found smbclient from all mirrors?

    I met this issue when try to install KDE and GNOME. It is not found even in Arch's ftp and many mirrors.
    Who can help me this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

    do pacman -Sy before. smbclient was updated yesterday and maybe you forgot to sync the database.

  • GDM and GNOME has died...

    Hello! I'm currently posting via a Knoppix Live CD. This is because, after doing a system update yesterday, GDM and GNOME no longer work.
    I mostly received kdemod-4.1 updates.
    GDM crashes constantly now and if I just get to a prompt and run
    exec gnome-session
    An error message is displayed (can't make out what it is, it goes to fast) and then I'm logged out.
    How can I resolve? I currently can't log into ANY desktop environment at all.

    Thanks for the response! I've looked at the log, but I'm afraid a large chunk of it means very little to me.

  • KDE and GNOME?

    Hi everyone
    Because KDE can be quite moany, is there a way to install both KDE and GNOME, but keep them kinda isolated from each other?
    If that makes no sense (doesn't to me), I mean, like install both, but keep each other's apps and applets out of the way (like, no gnome network applet in KDE, and AWN in gnome but not KDE)
    Thanks in advance

    You could setup a dual-boot system, one Arch install with Gnome, and one with KDE.  That should keep them pretty well separated if they aren't allowed to share anything but SWAP and your GRUB configuration file.

  • Gmd.service and gnome desktop problem

    Hi, I recently spent the last week figuring out how to get my graphics card working with arch which i managed to do eventually yesterday yay but now I've hit yet another brick wall (this is about the 50th lol) I installed gnome and gnome-extra. I followed the instructions on starting the desktop from the wiki. I used systemctl to enable gdm.service with no problem but when i asked it to start. it just kept making my monitors turn on and off repetitively
    I'm not sure if this has something to do with my xorg.config so I will post that here too. I'm running Xorg-server1.12 as I have to use Nvidia-96xx because of my graphics card which is the NVS280 (Nvidia Quadro I think). I also have to boot nomodeset otherwise I get a blank screen or constant reboots.
    Here's my Xorg.config just incase it's helpful.
