Glitch/Stutter Effects? (Max Headroom)

Hi again,
Is there anything in PP that can somewhat easily achieve the cliche 'Max Headroom' type effects? (aka 'stutters', 'glitching')
This can be done on DAWs by tediously cutting/copying/pasting/moving clips but there are also plug-ins that can automate the effect fairly convincingly. I was hoping there were similar gizmos in PP.
I saw one discussion in the AE forum, but it referred to some 3rd party plugs and I'm not ready for AE. Just looking to get in the ballpark.
TIA,
---JC

As I am the only one here old enough to remember Max Headroom, I'd say that in addition to what Jeff recommended, you might want to cut our a frame here and there in you Video, and also do similar in the Audio, but also cut in a few words/syllables being repreated. It will be more hand-work in the Audio, but coming form DAW, you'll not have an issue. I'd also go for a bit of jerkiness (maybe Razor the Clips a bit first and apply Time Remapping at different rates). For the ultimate, add in a few still frames, with slightly different sizes (Export Still, then re-size these) and add some "static," or a horizontal scan line. Since you are basically doing animation, it will not be quick, and some Effects and treatments might not make it into your final, but you can create this, just as you envision it.
Good luck,
Hunt
PS Jeff's father told him about Max Headroom. He just made a lucky guess...
PPS you might want to take a very few frames and actually reverse the motion - keep this very short.

  • How can I create a "Max Headroom" stuttering effect?

Can anyone point me in the direction of a filter or steps to create a Max Headroom stuttering effect?
    Does anyone remember Max Headroom?

Many sites ran how-to articles when ol' Max was on the air. The makeup was key to developing the character but editing was was fairly easy; you just need to decide the amount of effort and time you are willing to invest. Strobe effects will posterize the time and framerate but the skipping, replaying, sticking, jumping, and weird flutter cutting of juxtaposed frames takes work. Lots of work. Making it funny or clever is a lot more work.

  • Stutter effect

Is there a plugin for logic pro 8 that allows you to create a stutter effect on vocals (or any type of audio track) or do you have to do this manually by slicing up the audio?
I've only just started learning logic so forgive me if this has been asked before.
I've had a look through the manuals and cant find anything but if someone could advise where in the manual I would find this that would be great. Even a link to somewhere on the inter web would be great.
    Thanks
    Bryan

    Hi Drew
Do you have Garageband on your system ? Does it load in Garageband ?
Would it be an idea to download another free AU and try that ? We can see, that way, if it's a problem with your system and a particular plug-in, or all third party plug-ins !!
On my site I've got a list of other free or donationware plug-ins
    http://www.makemorenoise.org/logic/freeauplug-ins.html
So you could pick another from that list, I've tested all of those on my MacBook Pro with 10.5.5 and Logic 8.02 and they all work here.

  • Premiere 2014.1: glitches in effects and transitions

It's been a while since i used effects like Twixtor, Sapphire's transitions, NewBlue ColorFast, Boris FX and Neatvideo Reduce Noise.
But all of them work improperly in 2014.1 version of Premiere. After short period of usage, some of them start to produce blue, sort of inverted glitches (like s_FilmRoll transition by Sapphire and NewBlue ColorFast). Also Twixtor 6.1 effect fails most of renders returning "Error Compiling movie: unknown error". Also Boris FX Pixel Fixer returns Bfx Error 25 very often.
There is something terribly wrong with 2014.1 version. Checked on 3 completely different Windows 8 machines, and all of them share the same problems. Tried to install CC (non 2014) version - same plugins work OK there.
Glitches happen more likely if you switch playback/paused resolution with applied effects

We open a new project for example, When we click on effects we get the
message that Premier needs to close.
I found a work around which is even more baffling. When I logged in as
administrator the program worked fine. I created a new identity for this
user and it works fine. But when we log in as the old user the problem
    exists.
I reloaded everything this morning and so far today everything is OK.
    Mystifying.

  • When will Apple fix the "Show my caller ID" glitch that effects service reception? IOS7 has done nothing if not made it worse

I have downloaded IOS7 specifically to try and solve this annoying glitch that disables the "Show my caller ID" and effects my service reception, I know it effects it as when I have no service I can guarantee that the "show my caller ID" selection is disabled, when I turn it on miraculously I have service once again.
Such a stupid little problem that surely is easily rectified.
    When will Apple fix this????

Thanks for that but unfortunately been there, got the T-shirt, they replaced the phone with a new one, and still happens. I believe from what I have read, it's a software glitch that quite a few people have had problems with.

  • Looking for "video glitch" transition effect

I'm looking for a (cheap?) way to create an effect similar to a tape glitch / cheap switcher where the video image momentarily loses horizontal or vertical sync, you get electronic noise on the screen, then it returns to normal.

Which alters the question to: how to get a monitor to produce this kind of glitch on demand.... <<</div>
Vertical and horizontal hold knobs. This is one reason why it's a good idea to have an old TV set around. If you can find one at a garage sale that uses tubes or ancient transistors, grab it.
Takes some practice. You can record snow or between-the-channels noise ir or actually pipe video into the antenna input from a channel 3/4 modulator out of a VHS or DVD deck. The image can be used to drive displacement maps or used for mattes of other video effects. Funny thing, audiences still expect to see snow on a TV set even though solid state and digital tuners haven't displayed snow for a decade. And TVs haven't done the shrink-and-wink when you turn 'em off since the 60s but it's still a classic way to show a TV set turning off.
btw, I admit my ignorance, what is: CoSA? < </div>

  • Newb T61 ssd music glitch stutter!?

Hi all, new here but been reading the posts on this forum for 6 months or so, I recently replaced hdd with ssd, amazing difference and machine boots in 15 seconds, however when playing music from YouTube or direct from the ssd in BALANCED power mode there is an occasional glitch, say once or twice a minute, just a quick glitch in the music which is rather annoying, glitch lasts around half a second at most but enough to be noticeable and annoying!! Same in HIGH PERFORMANCE setting via power manager but not in POWER SAVER mode?? Why is this? Any ideas?? In power saving mode the problem does not exist. Very strange. Could it be to do with when CPU stepping is taking place in the other 2 mode's as in power saver the CPU sits at 798mhz, look forward to some ideas, thanks.
    Cheers Paul :-)

    HI
I don't use SSD, but I really wanted one for my T61. I researched quite a lot and concluded that T61 is just fine with HDD (and not SSD ) though some believe that SSD would go well with T61.
Lenovo's T61 Bios is not designed to use high speed SATAII devices. If you believe you can mod your bios with this NON LENOVO BIOS - http://forum.notebookreview.com/6501443-post75.html you can achieve SATAII speeds.
Beware that some brands of SSD do not go well with T61!
you can go through this link , would be helpful- https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T61-and-prior-T-series-ThinkPad/T61-and-Solid-State-Drive-Upgrade-Quest...

  • Stutter Vocal Effect?

I was wondering if someone could help me out creating a 'stutter' vocal effect? I know it requires cutting up of the recording track...or something along those lines...a lot of pop/techno tracks are using this progressive stutter effect.
    Thank you!

You can cut up your audio region using cmd-T in the Editor window and string up several copies of some little slice. Or, if the desired part is at the beginning of a region, alt-drag the region to the right a couple of times. There's no way to automate this in GB.

  • Periodic buzzing/stutter in the sound (after downloading Minecraft)

After downloading and playing Minecraft for the first time I now have an annoying stutter (sounds like a "metallic" buzz similar to Max Headroom) that occurs in all of my sound applications--Youtube videos, All internet flash videos, Livestream and even in my stored music files played offline.
I have an HP Probook 4530s running intel i3 core 2.10 GHz, Windows 7, 64 bit.
I tried updating Flash, but this didn't help--this was before I checked my stored audio files and thought it was strictly a Flash problem.
I'm not very tech savvy, so any help in layman's terms would be great....hoping I don't have to take this into the shop to be fixed.

Which version of Snow Leopard are you using?  The latest and last version is 10.6.8.  Your system information confirms you are using just 10.6.
A few things you can try is - (1) Install the 10.6.8 combo update, go to Software Update to see if you need to update Garage Band and other software to go with the os update.  After the installations, repair permissions and restart your computer.
    (2) /Library/Preferences - trash the com.apple.systemsound.plist file, restart your computer and empty the trash.  A new plist file will be recreated.
    (3) Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.

  • Vocal stutter in the iOS (NOT Mac) version of GarageBand: Possible?

Have to admit, thanks to iOS 7's inter-app audio capabilities, the ability to create dubstep-like powerhouses on an iPhone has gotten much better. Not to mention that the app, when it was updated for iOS 7, added some awesome tools that previously didn't exist for modifying the effects of the built-in sounds, even eliminating the need for inter-app audio apps in some cases. For example, slightly increasing the cutoff and filter attack while greatly increasing the FM and filter decay on the B-Movie keyboard entry basically eliminated my need to use a third-party app to create a whomp effect. Likewise, maxing out the cutoff, toning down the mix, and decreasing the volume release in the Sequence Bass (approximately) eliminated my need to find a third-party app to mimic that buzz effect that you see in songs like "When I Grow Up" by the Pussycat Dolls and my personal favorite (being a budding contemporary Christian dubstep artist whose goal is making church even more appealing for youth than it already is): "This Is Amazing Grace" by Phil Wickham.
However, there's one effect I have absolutely no idea how in the world can be done through GarageBand directly, if at all: the voice stutter effect. GarageBand's audio recorder is literally just that: a basic audio recorder with no options. Already knowing from my expertise and knowledge in how dub effects work that voice stutters are created by passing an external audio/voice stream through a filter with an LFO pattern applied, which GarageBand's built-in audio recorder simply does not have, I was wondering if there are any third-party inter-app audio voice recorders (or synths, along the lines of Alchemy [which I already have installed], with audio recorders built in) out there that have this capability, and would need a link since a quoted search for "Inter-app audio" (hate the fact that so many irrelevant search results clutter the App Store if searches aren't exact-phrase quoted) certainly doesn't turn up very many options. Thanks in advance.

Sorry for reawakening an old post, but just to be sure, is it the same the other way round? I have the iWork Package for my MBP and I'd like not to pay for the iOS version.

  • Playback glitch on export always at same TC

Premiere CS5.5 appears to be causing a glitch/stutter at the same spot consistently. I've trashed the renders and re-rendered, I've un-nested the sequence and re-rendered + recompressed, I've exported to MPEG2 via Pr and via dynamic link using Media Encoder and I still can't overcome this error. I've checked the source footage and the glitch is not present there (source foorage was a tape capture).  All source files are transcoded to DV 29;97 NTSC 4:3 QT files.
The glitch itself is similar to a playback stutter but only at one specific point and always at that point. This glitch is also present on the SD DVD created in Encore. That's how I first noticed the error.
The timeline itself is almost 2 hours; I can export a shorter section around the glitch and that encodes without errors but I don't understand why encoding the entire timeline causes this reoccurring glitch/error.
I'm running production CS 5.5.1 (updated to current version), on a Win7 SP1 64-bit box, 16GB ram. Mercury Playback Engine is disabled since my card doesn't support it.
Any suggestion or help would be greatly appreciated. I've spent the last two night troubleshooting this issue and would love to get back to producing something instead of troubleshooting.

Can you offer insight into Harm's comment. Should I avoid QT in favor of AVI for future projects since I'm on a Windows machine?
Quicktime is not a requirement to run PrPro on windows. But if you want full suite-wide feature support and optimal performance, it is highly recommended that you install quicktime on windows. That's not my opinion, it's an official Adobe statement:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/tech-specs.html
"QuickTime 7.6.6 software required for QuickTime features"
I've had no problems with mov files on windows as long as I have the latest qt installed. A lot of people hate QT, although I'm not sure if they've actually had any problems with it or if its just part of mac vs pc animosity.... kinda like snowboarding vs skiing or Yankeees vs Sox. Different people prefer one or the other for different reasons and I've been unable to PROVE that one is always superior or inferior to the other. (I'm pretty sure the Yankees are evil though)
But if you're working mainly in SD and exclusively on windows, then I would definately recommend using DV AVI as your format of choice. But I would still say you should have QT installed, eespecially if you're running the production suite on there.

  • Max bitrate question

I always selected bitrate and max bitrate to be the same, usually 7.0-8.0
now in dvd sp4, it always puts the max higher than the regular bit rate, the thing im worried about is that i heard if you go past 8.0, your risking incompatibility with some players, but if i choose like 7.5 on bitrate, the max bitrate defaults higher than 8.0, am i going to have problems. also if i choose 1pass with no VBR, at lets say 7.0 or 7.5 (something nice and high quality) is the quality going to be just as good as if i selected VBR 2 pass with the bitrate at the same (7.0 or 7.5)?

There has been a lot of discussion about Compressor 2's VBR containing a higher proportion of artifacts that the previous version. IMHO, they're pretty much the same. Where VBR vs CBR becomes important is for long form projects when your disc space becomes the driving issue. I do a lot of corporate/sports/TVC work all of which are short form, and I do everything as CBR 8mbps with .ac3 audio and I've never had a disc returnes. The DVD spec says max headroom for video & audio is about 9.8 mbps so this is well under spec. A lot of cheaper players don't follow spec to the letter of the law so you do need to be careful, especially if you've got subtitles, alt angles, alt audio, etc.
    I hope this helps
    Cheers

  • Encoding makes audio stutter

I have a .mov movie that I'm trying to convert to .flv and have a reoccuring audio issue. When I play back the converted video the audio stutters and skips in the exact same places. The audio is fine in the .mov. I've tried all kinds of different settings and get the same result. Is there something I may be missing for a setting?
Maybe the encoder doesn't like the Pixies?

  • Audio stutter recent

Lately, my audio stream has started to "stutter" and to become scratchy.  The most annoying behavior sounds as though the audio stream is stuck and replaying a short segment several times over.  The episodes only last a few seconds, then the streamsmooths out again.
I'm on a MacBook (late-2006) running Lion 10.7.4.  I've applied all updates to the OS and apps.
Has anyone insight to what might cause this?
