Glitch when moving folders on my desktop

When moving folders around on my desktop, there are some positions on the grid that act "glitchy". When trying to drop a folder in some places, it will revert the folder back to its original position on the desktop or will push it to another position on the desktop. It's as if there is a hidden file on the position I want to move the folder to when there isn't. What's going on?

1. Control (right) click on your desktop and open desktop settings.
2. Check to make sure that the Icon size is set somewhat lower than the Grid spacing.

How do i move folders around my desktop? i move a folder and it srings back to its right handside of screen location...any ideas?

Is automator a waste of time or what? cannot get to grips with stuff you can do quicker than setting it up, also examples on automator help are very poor

Sounds like you have The Desktop set to arrange by something. Click on the desktop, then use the View menu to select Show View Options. Then make sure the box next to "Keep arranged by" is NOT checked.
As for Automator, I have found it to be a great tool. I have used it to rename folders of hundreds of files, resize hundreds of images and create thumbnails of them, and back up my important files to my Firewire hard drive. Sure it took a little bit of learning to set up, but now it saves me a LOT of time with various operations.

  • Robohelp 9.0.1.232 crashes when moving folders

    The problem:
RH9 has started to crash after i move about the 2nd folder of topics. it can be 1 or more topics in the folder and it still crashes.
Upon restart the old location contains the original topics but with broken links; the new location contains just the moved and empty folder.
In Windows (on disk) the new location contains the correct files, but requires me to "import" the files or use "tools-->resolve broken links" to fix
random folders have been removed from RH9 - but exist on disk
    Steps taken:
uninstalled RH7, RH8 & RH9 completely (as RH9 has no "repair" feature which is disheartenting)
    Re-installed RH9
Updated to latest version available on Adobe's site
    Running correct Service Pack
    Questions:
Is there a Preferences file I could trash and replace?
Has anyone else had this problem?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello again
Keep in mind that I've been using RoboHelp for about 20 years. So with that in mind, it's self evident that I'm very fond of working a different way. When RoboHelp 7 was introduced, it shipped with a new "view" of things that was unfamiliar. This was called "Global view". Fortunately, the development team provided a "Classic" view. That's the view I prefer.
Call me a stodgy old c00t if you want, but I find this view vastly simpler to use than the "new and improved" globall view.
Additionally, I believe the default setting for the dialog you see when clicking the funnel icon is to have all options enabled.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Minor c3-00 glitch - when moving an item in the me...

Items in the main menu are sorted in different order when viewed in List view and in Grid view. This leads to confusion when sorting in list view or in grid view.
When I move an item in the menu in list view, then change back to grid view, the items will be in an unpredictable order. This is confusing to me.
For example, mark the menu items with the next indices: (assume this is the order they are shown in List View).
    1. Games
    2. Calendar
    3. Internet
    4. Music
    5. Mail
    6. Messaging
    7. Store
    8. Settings
    9. Applications
    10. Photos
    11. Contacts
    12. Communities
    13. Vodafone
The same icons are shown in the grid view (left to right, top to bottom):
    6,2,7,11,3,1,4,10,8,5,9,12,13
When I move an item in List View using the Organize function, the new order in List view will be:
    2,3,4,1,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13 (as I wanted).
If I switch back to grid view, the order will be (left to right, top to bottom):
    6,3,7,11,4,2,1,10,8,5,9,12,13
It's hard to see the logic behind these changes. It would be good if the same ordering would be used in both views, and moving an item in one view would move the same item in the other view.

You can get rid of the message permanently, if that's what you want, by going to Finder menu Finder>Preferences>Advanced and unchecking 'Show warning before emptying the Trash'.
Or if you'd prefer to leave the warning in place you can bypass it by hitting shift-option-caommand-delete (backspace).

  • Why do I get a Kernel panic when moving files to my desktop?

I am running Lion10.7.4. I have started to notice an annoying problem when I copy files to my deskdop from an email attachment or external drive. As I am moving them I get a split second "checkerboard" pattern on my screen. Any thoughts from anyone as to whats going on to cause this? Thanks!

Performed a TechTool diagnostic last night. Got passing grades on all benchmark tests. I wonder if it has anything to do with a firmware issue. I am having trouble upgrading to the newest EFI version for Lion. Got a call into Apple support for a chat. Thanks for your help!

  • Reader 9.5.4 "Glitching" when moving about in a fill-able form

    Win 7 x64
    Lenovo M91p
Using adobe Reader 9.5.4 to view and edit a form that we use constently. user is having a "glitching" issue where the mouse is slow to reacte and shows the Win 7 load circle for a split second. Other users around her are using the same version of adobe and using the form without issue. \
I have uninstalled and reinstalled with there still being an issue
the form isnt the issue (others are using it without fail)
    Checked for updates - Updated
Baffled as to what is going on with this form and "glitching"

Sorry, I have no explanation for this phenomenon.
If I encountered that problem I would try some of these things:
uninstall and resinstall Reader (uninstall perhaps using http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html)
do some disk cleaning, perhaps using CCleaner
    defragment the HD

  • IMac 27" inch display screen flicker issue when moving files

Whenever a drop a file from Finder to my desktop, the screen flickers.  Occasionally, when I move a window, it also flickers, but it's a more consistent problem when dropping the files on the desktop.  It only flickers once and returns to a completely normal state.
It does NOT happen when going the other way - from the desktop to Finder.
I purchased the iMac AFTER the original firmware updates, so I haven't had to install any of them from the original problem a couple years ago.
I am wondering if this is a problem that is discussed or if there are any suggestions.
    Thanks....

I'm having the same problem. Here are the details I was about to post as a separate thread:
27" iMac 2.7GHz Intel Core i5 with 16Gb RAM. I'm also using a 20" ACD alongside, a set up I have used with my previous 24" iMac. The ACD is being used as an extended desktop (not mirrored).
I've just started noticing an odd effect: When moving a file from a folder onto the desktop, the entire iMac screen flickers and breaks up momentarily before reverting to normal. It is an effect which lasts a fraction of a second and is visually very intrusive.
Weirdly, if I move the file but continue to hold it for a second before releasing to place it on the desktop, there is no flicker.
Similarly, if I open another folder and place the window alongside, moving a file from window to window produces no flicker. It only happens when moving something to the desktop.
The effect does not happen if the ACD is turned off (but connected) or the ACD is used in Mirror mode.
Does this sound like a hardware or software fault?

  • On start all of the folders on the desktop are moved to the right side of the screen and jumbled together, not as I had them organized on the left side of the screen. OS X v10.6.8

sometimes on start all of the folders on the desktop are moved alphabetically to the right side of the screen, not as I had them organized on the screen before. also sometimes  my folders  when opened, move and resize themselves too...

    Start with one of these:

  • Why do items disappear when moved to the desktop?

Why do items disappear when moved to the desktop?

Are you perhaps referring to dragging an item out of the Dock and onto the Desktop?
If so, they are intended to poof-disappear when you do that.
The reason - the icons shown in the Dock are a form of alias, not the real item. Any running app will have its icon shown there; and those that do appear there can be made to stick even when the program is quit. This means that there must be a mechanism to get rid of them, else there would eventually be too many. One way is to right-click or Control-click the item, then select Remove from the popup menu that appears. A more convenient way is to just drag them off of the Dock and have them disappear.
If you want to replace an item on the Dock, just drag the item to the Dock, wait for the items already there to make room for it, then drop it onto the Dock. Apps can only be placed to the left of the vertical dashed line; folders can only be placed between the dashed line and the Trash.

I am new to PSE 12 and am trying to import my photos from folders on my desktop which I have organized by the categories I had in my previous program (Creative Memories).  Many of my photos are located in multiple folders, i.e. one photo could be in "Family," Vacations" and "Birthdays."  When I try to import the contents of each folder on my desktop I am often getting the message that many of my photos were not imported as they are already in my catalog.  Is there a way that I can import any one photo multiple times so that it ends up in all the folders I want it to be in?  I know I can locate the photo in PSE and copy it to a different folder(s), but there are so many not being imported that this would be a huge task!

By design, the organizer (and any other database management systems) is there to prevent you from duplicating your media files. The catalog management allows you to have the same image in different categories or albums. Duplication in different folders is to be absolutely avoided.
The same image file can have multiple tags like 'family', 'vacations', 'birthdays' and be present in three different albums with the same names. On obvious advantage is less disk space. Another one with your present folder system is that if you edit one of your duplicates, the other ones are unchanged.
I don't see an easy way to make your present folder structure simplified for the organizer ...

Don't know if that would be a failing hard drive, but it may be that you are out of available space. How much hard drive space do you have available? Please highlight the Macintosh HD icon and then press Command and I for a get info window. Once open, please copy and post the following:

I have Thunderbird 24.5.0. When I double click the desktop item to open it up, it opens immediately, but when I'm in the main page with all the folders on the left & the corresponding email details on the right of that same page, it seems to have problems. Before, when I would highlight a certain box / folder (whether it would b “inbox”, “sent” folder, “trash” folder, or whatever, it takes a good 5 min (minimum) to open that certain folder so I can see the emails of that folder.
Can u help me determine what is causing this? Just 3 days ago, it was fine.

  • Permissions issues when copying folders from desktop to server

I am administering folders via AFP/SMB on a server. Some of the users will copy the child folders to their desktop and then back to the server at the end of the day. We constantly run into problems with the POSIX permissions being changed to read only for the group and others. There is an ACL on the parent folder that grants read and write but doesn't seem to be effective. Server and clients are 10.6.8. Files within the folders are mostly .xlsx. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

When a folder is copied from one place to another whether it's from a server to a client or from a client to different location on a client, the ownership of the folder changes to that of the user that did the copy. Moreover, the permissions on the folder change to the preset umask. (usually 755 for folders.. Owner - rwx, group r-x, everyone else r-x.
While this is not what you want it is behaving properly.
What you need to do is to have your users get info on their folder after they've copied it and set the "everyone" permission to read and write. Or better yet show them how to add users or groups to the acl of their folder.
It seems like a hassle, but imagine the security implications if users folders were by default, read and write access by everyone.
Alternatively You can defeat this problem by having users NOT copy the folder back to the server. Just the excel file. When they're done editing it, have them save it with something different as a name that represents a revised file. Then copy it back to the server by itself.
You'll end up with a folder full of excel files, but it's not so bad considering the version history record!
    Hope that helps!

Adobe Applications Manage rin Yosemite Kaput. Advisor directs me here. Another Adobe Run-around. CS5 Extended still crashing with Eyedropper when moved to desktop.

I'm sorry to report that I've not yet  figured out how to go about this 'Cleaning'. I've run the cleaner on the Applications Manager, then attempted to reinstall the downloaded Applications Manager and again I get the same message as above. I attempted to trash the Applications Folder and rerun the installer. That did not work. I then moved the downloaded Applications folder to the utilities folder and restarted CS5>Updates. It reports, again it can't find/or is damaged Applications Manager. I will now take the folder out of the trash and return it to the Utilities folder.
If I run the Recovery tool on Photoshop will I uninstall Photoshop or will it only 'clean' it. Does it mean I will lose any third party plugins?
I do thank you for your continued support. This is the first time a requested answer/suggestion to my troubles has been promptly be addressed by 'Adobe'. I am also pleased I can reply to an email to aid in resolving questions.
    Again, Thanks!
