Glitchy, Halty Play back on movie originally created in V5

I created an Imovie in version 5 and it played well, then I upgraded my system to V6 and opened this movie, I found the replay to be glitchy, halty, and overall poor playback performance. I created a similar version of the movie in Version 6( it was mostly just photo clips with some transitions and some music) and it played well..Any reason why this is happening? I closed all other applications, restarted my computer, and it still played poorly...I would prefer not to have to start over as the original one has quite a bit of text and work involved...but I can't work with it when it's glitchy!

We had the same problems when iMovie 5 arrived. I hope that you did not save the movie from iMovie 6 'cause I did that from iMovie 5 and the files would never open again in iMovie 4.
Give Apple a few weeks, they will post the fixes for 6, like they did with 5. I have iLife '06 setting here one my desk, but i don't think I will load it for a couple of weeks, till Apple fixes the quarks. You may have to reinstall iMovie 5.

  • Can't get sound to play back on Movie Maker when recording with internal webcam/microphone

I have a Windows 8, 64-bit  Envy notebook.   I tried using Google Hangouts but there wasn't any sound (the camera was fine).
Later, I decided to test the  internal microphone myself by  creating a Movie Maker file,  and clicking on Webcam and making a recording.  The camera worked but it played back in total silence.
I checked the settings for the microphone and the internal mic was properly set as the default.  I turned up the volume to the maximum.   Then I found directions for doing a sound check, and I was able to do the Sound Recording check and get audio when I played the file back.
But when I tried again to make a video,  i got zero in the playback.
    Any idea what's going wrong?
    Thanks,
    Pat

    Hello Myerspat,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I have read your post on how you are not able to get sound from your notebook computer, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To restore the audio to your notebook, I recommend following this document on No Sound from Speakers (Windows 8). This should help with the playback on your system.
In addition, you can also follow @SuperMario1's thread on Troubleshooting Guide: Audio does not Work after a Certain Period of Time. This guide should help with your notebook's audio output in regards to a recent Windows Update.
For more assistance, I will need to know:
The Product and Model Number of your notebook computer.
If your computer has completed all of its important Windows Updates.
If you have updated your HP drivers using the HP Support Assistant.
If this is an on-going, or recent issue.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, as well as the requested information above. I look forward to your reply!

  • Playing back HD DVD content created in FCP

I have been using FCP for years, creating SD DVD's. I have recently purchased an HD camera (Sony HVR Z1U) This is a completely novice question, but I have to ask; what types of DVD players will support content created from FCP and DVD studio pro HD? Will I be able to burn my content to a DVD-R, or will I need to burn to a special DVD disc?
Completely novice questions, but I'm new to this.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Lars

You can write HD DVD type discs to DVD-R from your computer via DVD SP. It is not the full blown HD DVD spec, but think of it more like a really nice looking DVD. Limited in time compared to the amount of material that you can get on a true HD DVD, but it is not bad
Export the footage from Final Cut to Compressor and choose an HD m2v setting, then bring that and the audio into DVD SP (make sure it is a HD project). This should play on HD DVD Players (such as the Toshiba) though there are some wrinkles in there from time to time. Note you will need an HD DVD Player (not an SD nor a blu-ray)
For blu-ray you will need another application to author, such as Encore or Toast (which is a bit limited) and a blu-ray burner.
Though HD DVD has gone the way of the dodo, I have a HD DVD Player and it is nice to watch some one offs of the HD footage.

  • How to play back QT movie to different audio & video devices?

I have a QuickTime movie with four (surround) audio channels.
I need to be able to output the audio and the video to two different places, eg to a FireWire-based Canopus DV->analog video converter and a FireWire-based M-Audio multichannel device.
SimpleVideoOut allows FireWire DV output of QT playback but does not support a separate audio device - and as the Canopus has only two audio channels this is useless.
    Any ideas gratefully received.
    Thanks,
    --Richard E

Front Row will ONLY look inside your user's "Movies" folder for QuickTime movies. If you have your movie files in another folder, you can add an "alias" (a.k.a. "shortcut") to the other folder inside your "Movies" folder. Front Row will follow an alias from there to the new folder.
Yes, as long as the QuickTime Player application can play your movie files, they should play inside Front Row.

'Make sure your iTunes is up to date 10.5 at the top where the tabs are turn on "Home Sharing" by enabling it on your MACBookPro under the advanced tab using your Apple ID and PW  then turn on your AppleTV and on the far right side click on "Computers" repeat turning on "Home Sharing" on there then start your movie and click on the AirPlay Icon then select send to AppleTV! There are a few other more ways to do the same thing but thats the easiest let me Know if you need more info .

  • New eSATA only plays back some shows

Just installed an External Drive over the weekend. It seemed to work fine on Monday & Tuesday. Tonight, however, it will not play back 2 of the shows that were recorded yesterday (Unforgettable & NCIS) it will play back a movie this morning & a TV show recorded on Monday! Anyone know what's up?
Here's what happens: We go to the recorded list on the DVR, find the show & hit play, it seems to pause, then returns to the screen that says 'hit OK to play', we hit OK, it pauses again & then goes back to live TV -  this doesn't happen on all the shows, only on ~half. There isn't any obvious trends to know what shows it will or will not play - they all have time listed & are taking memory space on the eSATA
    Suggestions anyone?

    Hello MichaelM,
I am sorry you are having difficulty using your external drive for play back.  What brand and size eSATA drive are you using?  Have you tried power cycling the external drive or DVR yet?  You can also reset your DVR using the In Home Agent tool right from your computer.  If you need additional help let us know.

  • Shadowy jerky effect on slo-mo shots when played back on television monitor

Has anybody else noticed this problem?
When playing back a movie edited in imovie 4 on a DVD-R through a television monitor all the slo-mo shots have a shadowy jerky effect on them. They don't play smoothly as they do when the same DVD-R is played back on my computer monitor.
Any suggestions on how to fix this would be appreciated. It ruins the whole effect of the slo-mo.
    Emac 1.25GHz PowerPC G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Did iMovie prompt you to render the project when sending to iDVD. Slo-mo needs the deinterlacing that process does -- otherwise the output is jerky on a TV.
See also a related iMovie 4-6 bug you should be aware of:
    http://www.sjoki.uta.fi/~shmhav/iMovieHD_6_bugs.html#jaggystills
And besides, you get better quality slo-mo with 3rd party apps:

  • My current os x is 10.9.5, using final cut express vers. 4.0.1.  I have imported .mov clips created with a older mac os x (lion) and converted them to import into fce. after doing this as well as putting clips on the fce timeline when playing back t.h

My current os x is 10.9.5, using final cut express vers. 4.0.1.  I have imported .mov clips created on a older mac os x (lion) and when I wanted to import them into fce, a quicktime conversion window opened up and converted them (I haven't experienced this in the past). I then imported the converted quicktime clips into my fce project.  After doing this I took selected clips and put those edited clips on the fce timeline.  When playing the video back in the fce timeline,I noticed
    1) the video wasn't playing back smoothly like the original content
    2) when looking at the timecode reading of the timeline, the timecode was sputtering as well as the video and audio.  I exported to quicktime just to see if that was consistent, it was.
When I play the converted quicktime content independently of fce,  it plays normally (no sputtering of timecode, video and audio.  Need help to resolve the sputtering playback of converted video content in the fce timeline.  I've never experienced this before.  Any suggestions?

When you say you converted the clips before importing them into FCE, did you convert to AIC or DV and do the converted clips match your FCE Sequence settings exactly?  If not, go back and convert the original files again, using the intended Sequence settings as a guide.

  • Audio Video Content created in 10.6 Downloads instead of Plays Back

I have a situation where all content created in 10.6 will download instead of playing back with a browsers plug-in. That includes, mp3s (mp3s created with Logic) and all types of common video formats - DivX avi's, mp4's, mov's.
I have tested on Safari, Opera and Firefox in 10.6, Safari in 10.4, and on Windows Vista with Google Chrome.
It appears there is something common with 10.6 that cuases these problems - I would very much like to know what it is and how to resolve it.
So that you can test it for yourself, the website is:
    www.rohanstevenson.com
    /TV and Film Demos
In the mp3 demos, most of the contect was created in 10.5 and plays back ok. But "Nightmares and the Sidh" was created in the latest logic version on 10.6 and in safari, it won't play unless you move the slider forward very slightly, or copy and paste the URL into quicktime or VLC. In Firefox, it will download even if you ask it to playback using the plug-in. In Opera it will ask you for the plug-in and it will playback in the browser there. In Safari OS 10.4 and in Vista Gogle Chrome it will download no matter what.
In the Movie Demos, most of them were updated and will automatically download instead of playing back in the browser. However:
Dragon's Demand, and Fanny Hill - The Sonnet, were created in previous OS's and do playback properly (ie they don't download) in all the browsers.
The movies that download may have been created in 10.6 or not, but even the ones that were not were edited (cut out) using Quicktime Pro 7.6  recently in 10.6 and they download and do not playback. That is to say, anything that has had any editing done and therefore saved with an application in 10.6, or were created directly in 10.6 force downloads instead of playing back in browsers in the manner described above.
    Help!
N.B. the website was made with iWeb, but I don't think that is the problem, I think there is some header information in the files that stop them from being properly recognized.

there's been a number of long & short threads with similar problems, I think some even had the same content-type yet still misbehaved on some servers (an OS update or two ago, so some things might be fixed)
One poster at least thought that 10.6 created files were ok, but not if changed by iTunes (I think it was that, anyway); I never found a way to present the files on all servers that always worked, although using embed or something other than a direct link seemed to solve it in some cases w/o needing any end-user wiggling.
I'm sure that people must create/publish ok, but a number fetch up here saying that 10.6 won't play the results.
In case you've not seen it - Safari-Develop-Show Web Inspector-Resources-Headers shows what Safari gets as content-type, you can alter user agent & see if it changes. Sites like web-sniffer.net do it too.

  • Creating large DVD onto USB memory to be played back on a smart TV

I want to create a 20 gig. movie in Premiere Elements 13 that uses movie themes so I can choose sections from a main menu and store it on a USB memory stick that will be played back on a smart TV.
    Is this possible?

    1997viper
If you are exporting from Premiere Elements as a file saved to the USB Flash Drive or USB Memory Stick, be aware that menus are not provided for that. Menus are provided for burn to products such as DVD-VIDEO and AVCHD destined for DVD disc, or Blu-ray disc format destined for Blu-ray disc (See Publish+Share/Disc/DVD, AVCHD, or Blu-ray.)
Also be advised that stop markers in Premiere Elements AVCHD and Blu-ray do not function in the playback of those disc products. They do for DVD-VIDEO.
Although the program will allow you to export to file using USB Flash Drive, you cannot burn to DVD-VIDEO, AVCHD, or Blu-ray using USB Flash Drive. Needs disc. I get an "invalid location" if I try to do otherwise.
Please explain further if any of the above will fit into video editing goals.
    Thanks.

  • I-DVD created DVD will not play back on i-Mac 27"

The i-DVD Tutorial says "When you have burned your DVD, you will have your own DVD that can be played in any DVD Player or any DVD-EQUIPPED COMPUTER"
Unfortunately I do not find this to be so, and I would like to know why, please. The DVD created is in UDF form. It plays back perfectly in my Liteon Player via the TV. It will play on my Windows PC via either WMP or Nero, BUT IT WILL NOT PLAY on my i-Mac, neither by Quick Time nor DVD Player. I get the message "not in a form recognised." Goodness! It was created on the i-Mac, via i-DVD !!
All my software is up-to-date of course.
    Can anyone tell me WHY?

There are a variety of reasons why a burned DVD will not be recognized by a DVD player.
I'm interested to hear you say that you burned the disk with iDVD and yet the disk does not playback on the same computer that created the disk. If you put a standard purchased video DVD into the computer does it playback? If it does not then I would focus your attention on the Computer / DVD drive itself and not iDVD.
    Things to try:
1.) Make sure the DVD disks you are using are compatible with your computer's optical drive. If you use a disk that is not supported by your computer's SuperDrive you may get inconsistent burn results. You can find out what types and speeds of disks your computer supports by going here and looking for the "SuperDrive" section under your model of computer: http://support.apple.com/specs/
2.) Older drives / players may not be able to read newer types of burnable media. Use DVD-R disks that list a lower speed. Burnable media comes with numbering on the original packaging that indicates the speed of the disk (Usually 1x,2x,3x, etc.). The lower the number the more compatible the disk will be with more DVD players.
3.) Try different brands of media. I personally try to stick with media made by companies with a long history of making recordable media.
4.) Lower the burn speed in iDVD:
iDVD > Preferences > Advanced > Preferred DVD Burning Speed
-- The lower the number you choose the more compatible the resulting disk will be with more DVD players. It will also increase the amount of time it takes to burn the disk.
    Hope that helps

  • Exported movie plays back fast

Hi all, new poster on the apple discusions forum but wondered if anybody out there could help me.
I created my first movie from iMovie last night, the footage is HD from A Sanyo Xacti 1000 camera (had problems getting the footage in the night before but thanks to these boards found a solution)
Anyway cut a quick movie exported to AppleTV, created my m4v file, played back on ATV and the video footage appears to be running fast, almost like it's dropping frames but smooth. Audio was fine too... Anyone got any bright ideas?
    Thanks tim

    Hi.
Best thing to do is to set Imovie'08's movie format to NTSC, even though the TV standard in the UK is PAL.
But since you work ith non intelaced footaged, this will just change the frame rate iMovie works with to 30fps (29.97 exactly) instead of 25.
Since all Xactis shoot at 29.97 or 59.94, this setting is much better for them.
And it totally eliminated any choppiness effect for me.
Beware though: changing the PAL/NTSC setting of iMovie from PAL to NTSC made very strange results in edited movies (offset edits) when iMovie came out. I do not know if this has been corrected in the latest 7.1.1 version.
But you can always go back to your previous PAL setting and this eliminates all side effects, so there is no real downside trying.
I also have an HD1000 now and have had no problem with 60fps footage- and I now know how to output from iMovie at 60fps
Not sure if this has to do with it, but I do not use iMovie's import feature:
I create a folder for the new event in the ~/Movies/iMovie Events/, copy the .mp4s from the HD1000 to it, and then launch iMovie. IMovie then creates thumbnails and everything.
    Hope this helps.
I miss the good old times of miniDV, when everything just worked!
