Glitchy multicam editing in CS5.5

Hey guys, I'm working on finishing up a wedding video. I've noticed some bizarre behavior in Premiere Pro CS5.5 multicam section.
The sequence I"m working on is about 45 minute long and I just finished adding in Neat Vido for denoising certain components after all my color correction / etc.
The ceremony portion has a Multicam section in it where I used a few cameras. Anyways. when rendering out the final video, I have two "blips", single frames, on the opposite ends of a cut point that are from the opposite clip. So I expect it to be like this:
MC1 MC1 MC1 MC1 MC1 (CUT POINT) MC2 MC2 MC2 MC2 MC2
But I am getting:
MC1 MC1 MC2 MC1 MC1 (CUT POINT) MC2 MC2 MC2 MC1 MC2
There is no additional cut at those point, it's just a random rogue frame in a normal clip. I trimmed it out and reimported it and it persists. The original footage is totally fine.
Then, I shut down premiere and restart it. Now, that went away. Instead, I have this wierd out-of-place frame in 2 spots on the same clip. So it should be:
MC1frame1 MC1frame2 MC1frame3 MC1frame4 MC1frame5 MC1frame6 MC1frame7 MC1frame8
But instead I am getting:
MC1frame1 MC1frame2 MC1frame4 MC1frame3 MC1frame5 MC1frame6 MC1frame7
It's really bizarre. These clips were fine and a video I rendered just the day before was A-OK.
Any ideas what is going on here?

Well after rendering a new version overnight, it got even worse. Now most of my multicamera sequences have gone glitchy as all hell, inserting random frames everywhere.
Here is a very quick screencast showing this:

I'm suspecting this may have to do with Neat Video ...

  • Does anyone know why Adobe CC is failing recognise or open files taken on a Nikon D4 that have been previously edited in CS5?

I'm just migrating some of my image archive across from one hard drive to another.  During the process, I checked the files in Bridge to see that they'd copied correctly.  It was here that I noticed that for some reason, in every folder that I've moved, there are at least a few images that it fails to recognise.  These images are listed as having no camera model and no serial number.  Attempting to open them in Photoshop CC says that it is an unrecognised file.  Bridge struggles for a while, manages to eventually recognise a lot of them but always leaves a few that it cannot work with.
Having looked at the original drive, the files are fine and open perfectly.  One thing that I've noticed is that some (not all) of the now corrupt files have been previously edited in CS5.  Removing the sidecar xmp file makes no difference.  Purging the cache makes no difference.  Repairing permissions makes no difference.
I am running OSX Mavericks (10.9.3) and have the latest updated version of CC.
    Please help!
    Leon

I'm using an Intel iMac, 3.6Ghz Intel core i5 with 12GB of 1333 Mhz DDR3 RAM.
The iMac has OSX 10.9.3 installed with all of the latest updates.
I'm using Adobe CC with all of the latest updates installed so Bridge is version 6.0.1.6.
I have repaired permissions, rebooted the Mac, re-started Bridge and cleared the Bridge cache.
The raw files are .nef files from a Nikon D4.  They are currently stored on an external Western Digital red hard drive and all of the images are accessible and load correctly.
In moving the files across to a new Western Digital green drive, Bridge is failing to create some of the thumbnails.  After waiting for all of the thumbnails to be created, the remaining files are simply displayed with a nef files icon.  Any attempt to open them fails, with Adobe Photoshop CC displaying a message stating that the file is not in a format that Photoshop can understand.
On investigating further, I have found that the images that are causing issues are ones that have been edited before and have sidecar .xmp files.  These .xmp files were created during editing when using Adobe Photoshop CS5.1.
I hope that's everything that you requested.

  • Multicam editing: Can't get blade to show in angle viewer when trying to edit in Timeline

This problem just appeared. I have done lots of multicam editing in FCPX, it works great.
But, today I started on a new video and:
    - I created the first multicam clip, it looks fine.
    - I created a Project and appended the multicam clip into the Project, it looks fine.
    - I see all the Angles in the Angle Viewer, it looks normal.
    - I select the Event Browser and hit play, all angles play. I move the curser over an angle and I see a hand, just as I should. everything fine so far.
    - I click in the Timeline and hit the space bar and the selected angle and audio start to play..........BUT the angles in the angle viewer do NOT play. Not right.
    - With the Timeline still selected, I move the curser over an angle in the angle viewer, and i see the hand, NOT the Blade.
So, FCPX thinks I am still in the Event Browser, even though when I click in the Timeline, the Timeline background color changes to light grey, which says I am in the Timeline. FCPX is not letting me go into the Timeline (even though the background color changes).
I have to be doing something dumb, but I don't see it.
    Any suggestions?

Turns out that was EXACTLY the problem --- I kept looking around and finally discovered the problem was that I was NOT in a project (although I thought I was).
    Nevertheless, thank you for responding.

  • Do I really need to overclock a i7 2600(k) for HD editing in CS5?

    Dear All
After reading a lot in this forum (thanks to everyone!), I pretty much decided to buy the i7 2600k or i7 2600 (I know the difference) for the system I´m putting together.
I´ll have a student´s edition of CS5 and will be using Premiere and AE and have one huge doubt left:
Do I really, really need "Overclocking" for HD video editing?
A few background infos so you know who "I" refers to:
I´ll be doing small projects for my own private amusement, most of them likely to be less then 20 minutes long, but effects/filters/layers will definitely be involved.
I´ll buy a Nvidia 550 for cuda, the three "obligatory" harddrives, 16 GB of RAM...
Think of fiction short movies, music videos etc. and you get the idea.
I am not a hardware enthousiast or a very impatient person - if a final rendering/conversion into another format takes 8 minutes instead of 6, for instance, I do not care.
What I DO care about is smooth editing and previews when working with HD formats (yes, also the "difficult" ones). I don´t want to be on the top of any benchmarks, but
the performance with HD still should be "good"...
I have no previous experience with OC, but I understand it´s quite easy with this last generation of processor and motherboards.
Yes, I am tempted to get more "Bang for the buck", but I am also reluctand to spend more money and time if I don´t really need it, or if the difference will be so minimal I won´t notice it.
As I understand it, for OC I´ll need to get a better case with fans, a better cooler, better power supply, better who-knows-what... all decisions I need to take now...
    I also wonder:
    - Is it still true that my processor/system will have a shorter life spam with OC?
    - In case I don´t overclock, can I go with the factory cooler of the i7 2600 or is it still wise to get a better one?
    - Any suggestion which Z68 motherboard to buy with and without OC? (should be around 100-150 Euros)
Please allow me this additional question in order not to open another threat just for it:
    - I want to get  Kingston DDR3 4GB/1333 RAM simply because it´s cheap - is that okay with the i7-2600 or should I go for 1600 instead?
Thank you so much in advance for any kind of suggestion, I hope your answers will be useful for more users out there.
    Andy

Thank you, Harm. Does everyone agree? I´d be happy to save the money for all those fans...
The time issue is really relative. My last editing adventures laying about a decade back when one could go for a coffee when applying a filter to a couple of minutes in PAL
and even a brightness filter applied to a short shot would have me staring for endless seconds at the screen. I hope these days are gone, EVEN with HD?
I´m just trying to imagine how and when OC would affect things while using cs5, or if it would affect the "smootheness" of the editing process at all.
As said, a conversion into another format or a final rendering that takes many minutes anyways is not a problem for me.
But say I want to apply a filter to a couple of seconds, or render an AE effect, would I have to "wait" at all for previews with the modern i7 system I want to build?

  • Multicam Edit/Can't See Video on Canvas

I'm doing a six-cam multicam edit. Everything was going perfect until my hand accidentally hit the keyboard. I don't know which key(s) I hit.
Not I can't see my video on the Canvas and my multiclips clips won't play in synch in the Viewer. I do hear the audio when I play the Timeline.
I opened another clip and it won't play. Nothing will play in the Canvas.
What the heck did I hit and how do I fix it? I'm working on a MacBook. All my video is on an external G Drive connected with a FireWire 800 cable.

Thank you. I can't believe that. After so many projects I didn't even know that could happen.
What a relief. I'm an hour into this 90 minute musical. I was dreading having to start again.
    Again... thanks.

  • CS6 Multicam Edit - Is there a way to turn off some camera angles when the system gets strained?

I'm doing a multicam edit in cs6 and the 5 camera angles I have are straining my system.  I have two main angles and three kind of back up go pro angles that I don't need most of the time.  But I don't want to get rid of them either.  Is there a way to turn off monitoring some of the angles at times so that video will playback smoother?  Then when I need the other angles, switch them back on when I want?  The video is so choppy with all 5 angles monitoring at once that multicam editing is basically impossible.  I'm editing on what's supposed to be a very fast system at work but it's not fast enough...Thanks!

I'm not aware of any way to do this. You might want to invest in a battery case if this is a problem for you; our users here all have them.
Please submit your feature request to Apple at this link: http://www.apple.com/feedback; I agree it's a good idea.

while in Lightroom, i press command e to edit in cs5, however my picture won't open in cs5. It was working just fine, then just stopped.

Please do not post questions more than once. It makes it difficult for you as well as those who will try to answer. I don't have an answer for you. However:
    What operating system?
    What version of Lightroom?
    How much RAM?
    Did you install anything new?
What version of Camera Raw are using in Photoshop CS5?
If you can provide more details, it might make it easier for someone to provide you with an answer.

  • How to extend clips after multicam editing.

I recently learned how to use multicam editing and I think it is such a fantastic tool. One of the things that I struggled with, however, is the ability to extend/shorten one of the clips because the footage was too shaky during the transition to another clip.
For example: Clip A is playing and recording on the timeline. But Clip A becomes shaky so I switch to Clip B. After everything is done, and I play it back, I see that shaky footage towards the end of Clip A.
How do I extend Clip B so that it extends over Clip A to get rid of the shaky footage?

The "Roll" tool. Click between 2 clips and roll the edit left or right.

  • Multicamera Edit Lags in PPro CS4

    Hi,
I am experiencing cumulative delays when making multicamera edits using the multicamera window in CS4.  I am about halfway through a 2 hour video, and with 2 or 3 streams of HDV 23.976 (Canon) video everything plays fine in the Multicamera window when starting up PPro fresh.  As soon as I press a key to switch active streams, the video starts playing very jerky, and it takes 2-3 seconds for the red highlight box to switch to the selected stream.  If I continue on without stopping and continue to keyboard select the active multicam window, the delay becomes longer and longer before the red highlight switches to the active stream. And the playback remains jerky.  If I stop playback, and start again everything is smooth until I select a different stream in the multicamera window.
Playback of the completed multicam edited sequence from the timeline is fine - no issues at all.
I am running a Core i7 3.0GHz processor with 3GB RAM and multiple SATA 7200K hard drives.
Any thoughts on what may be causing this?  I don't remember having this type of multicam edit performance degradation with CS3 on a less powerful machine.

    Does any of this help?

  • FCP 5.0 Multicam editing and main sound

I have 3 angles shots. How do I leave a main sound from camera 1 in the time line when when I do multicam editing?
Do I first do only video cuts and bring the main sound in or it can be done differently?
    Thanks.

I didn't feel like going through the manual either on this one --- here's what I do, which is by no means the easiest automatic thing.
After I drag my multiclip to the timeline, I grab the track I want audio from and place it with the multiclip. A couple locks & unlocks, a couple of deletes, and I've got the multiclip video with the audio from the track I want audio from.
It's not the automatic thing, but I generally am working with 2+ hour long multiclips, and only have to go through this once per project.

  • How do I do multicam editing in final cut pro 10.2?

I updated to FCP 10.2 and when I right click on my videos that I want to use for multicam editing it shows nothing

I think you're selecting clips in the timeline… not in the browser, which is where you need to work when you create multi clips. .

  • Best Practices CS6 - Multicam Edit: How to use a key?

I'm trying to figure out what's the best way to use the Multi-cam editing function of CS6 PP, while applying a key to the primary video track.
The workflow I have is V1 contains the background that I want to key into V2. I applied UltraKey to V2, did the key (works great), and now I want to use the multicam editing to cut between the finished keyed V2 track, and video on V3. The way I've always used the Multicam editing in the past is to select the video clips from the clip browser (not the timeline) to create a multicam source sequence - but if I have to apply a key first, I can't do that. I thought of nesting V1 and V2 together after the key is applied, but then I can't make adjustments to the key after the final composite is made (or can I?)
Any thoughts about what works best in this scenario? appreciate the help.

I don't think my system could support live keying. I'd prefer to apply the key first but this is where I had a problem. Let's assume for a minute that there's no key. In a typical MCS workflow, I'd just select the clips from the browser, create the MCS, do the live cuts and be done with it. If I can still do that it's fine, but would that screw everything up in the MCS if I move all the video up one track because the background for the key has to be in front of the video that it's being applied to? I hope I'm making sense here.

  • Corrupted Event in Multicam Edit

I got a corrupted event in a huge Multicam edit of a musical show. Final Cut Pro X crashed and it didn't restart unless I removed the Event from the Event-Folder. Now I can still open the projects (I had to seperate the show into two projects) and see the editing I have done, but as the event is missing all media is missing (event missing).
Final Cut created a new Event out of the files but my Multicamclip is missing (of course). I found the old files in the trash and backed them up.
I don't believe I could get my event back (or working) but I like to know if there is any way to create a new multicam clip and relink that, so my editing isn't lost (I had to do some manual changes on the multiclip to work with it).
I already tested a different Mac and I had a backup of the Project files, but not of the event as the event-folder is 300GB in size.

    I already tried. Doesn't help.
What I actually did (at least for the first part) to make a new multicam clip and project. Export the old and new project with XML, do some code copying and tweaking, reimport the XML and than resync (it was a few frames off) the multicam clip.
Now I'm looking for a fast way to copy the effects (color correction) from the old project but I might have to copy it one cut at a time...

  • How do images edited in CS5 not return to LR3?

I have just upgrade to CS5 and then downloaded LR3 trial version as I am waiting for the software to arrive.
I was editing a shot in LR3, then decided to edit in CS5 for content aware fill to remove some wires that I could not work around.  After completing the edit in CS5, it asked me to save the images and I said yes.  After that, it did not return the file to LR3.  After doing several other edits, I finally did a search on my system to find the images that I edited in CS5.
To my surprise, they were in different directories on my system!
Is there something that we now have to specify to get them to return to LR?  I would like to keep the images all in one collection since this is what I have done in the past.
It also did not ask me when going to CS5 if I wanted to use the edited version like it did in V1 & 2.  Has anyone else had this happen?
    Thanks,
    David

Did you have any filters set in LR to exclude any other images? ... there seems to be a bug in PS returning images with ratings, color labels and filters  ... or any of the above. Try removing the filters to see if your edited image is there.
The team is looking into the issue.

  • Can you apply fx to individual clips after a multicamera edit? CS6

I have footage from a 5 camera shoot of a concert.  What I want to do is perform a multicamera edit to choose what angles I want to use.  After the edit, I would need to go back and apply warp stabilizer to any sections that need it.  One of the cameras has a telephoto zoom and another is on a dolly track; there are certain points where these angles need warp stabilizer, and other times where they do not need warp stabilizer.  I do not want to have to apply warp stabilizer to 2 and a half hours of footage from two cameras when much of that footage does not need stabilized.
Is there a way to first perform the multicamera edit, then go back and apply fx such as warp stabilizer, color correction, etc, to individual clips that need it?

Thanks!  I didn't want to go through the whole process and find out I had to do it all over again.
Off to give it a try.
