Global cellular access

I specifically purchased my iPad, 3rd generation, Verizon,  as an international communication device.  I did my homework, or so I thought, and called Apple sales support as well as Verizon, to make sure I was purchasing something for my intended purpose.  According to those I talked to I should be able to use my iPad around the world because the iPad has a SIM slot and can accept a data card. I've started this discussion because I would like to hear from those of you who know whether or not I made the right decision.  If not what alternatives are there and what suggestions do you have?

Sorry Bob, the Fisherman, that's a non-answer.  It's not helpful. It didn't solve the problem.  It didn't "save" me.  Is that why you are a "Fisherman" you save the Apple flock who have lost their way.  By the way, are you "Apple"?  Is that why you say "we" and "us"?  If I were your boss and heard /read  the way you talked to customers, I would fire you. I've had enough of authoritative arrogance from those who talk down to customers as if their too stupid to understand their words.  Look, I already read the specs, though I didn't point this out.  I asked an open-ended question to see what other experiences are.  I've heard contradicting information from both Apple and Verizon on this matter, so I'm confused.  I asked those who know and they clearly contradict one another.  The first Apple support person I spoke to when invesitaging the iPad said that I couldn't use it abroad to connect to the internet.  I called another Apple support person at Sales who said I definitely could.  Yes, I had already read the specs which suggested that I could, so that was the answer I expected.  I wanted confirmation.  There is a reason.  ATT and Verizon lock their phones, so I thought maybe they'd lock my iPad and even if they did say I could use it abroad, I'd only be able to roam on their networks thus incurring huge roaming fees. So recently and now that I'm ready to travel abroad,  I called Verizon again, just before posting my question, and the tech said, "stop thinking this is like an iPhone...I can tell you definitively that you cannot use your iPad abroad."  He went on to say something about getting a pre-pay plan which might allow me to use the iPad abroad but on my current "month-to-month" plan, it's impossible.  So, who / what am I supposed to believe?  If you want to be helpful and can come down from your pulpit, answer the question straight up:  Can I use my iPad anywhere abroad where there is cellular connectivity by putting a data sim card into my Verizon iPad generation 3?

  • Global Object Access Auditing test question

    Hello!
There's a test question (N4) I'd like to have clearified:
    http://exam.test4actual.com/70-411.pdf
Yes, D and F will enable auditing with no extra replication traffic, but enabling Global Object Acces Auditing will lead to auditing not only SYSVOL shares but to any others as well (http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2011/03/10/global-object-access-auditing-is-magic.aspx)
    - is this replication traffic worth it???
    Thank you in advance,
    Michael

    Hi,
For this question, the correct answer is DF, but we do not need to use Global Object Acces Auditing policy to audit SYSVOL shares.
About the replication traffic, please refer to:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb742457.aspx
Meanwhile, any changes made to SYSVOL are automatically replicated to the other domain controllers in the domain. If the files stored in SYSVOL change frequently, the replication increases the input and output for the volume where SYSVOL is located. For
example, editing a GPO can potentially force a GPO-level replication. If the volume is also host to other system files, such as the directory database or the pagefile, then the increased input and output for the volume can impact the performance of the server.

Attempting to access a global JNDI entry from a clustered Weblogic 12c environment. Any attempt to perform a lookup of an object listed under the global JNDI entry (java:global) causes a java.lang.AssertionError exception with a "Context may not be null" message. • Global Variable Access in OWB.

    Hi All,
    OWB Client 9.0.2.56.0
    OWB Repository 9.0.2.0.0
Is it possble to have variables whose values can be accessed and updated across mappings?
eg global variables which can be referred/modified in any mappings
    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards,
    Vidyanand

To implement this, you could persist a value in a temporary table from a certain mapping and then read the value from another mapping that uses that value as an input parameter (if they run sequentially from a process flow, for example).

  • Nokia Lumia 900 - Cellular Access

    Hi,
I live in the US and have a Nokia Lumina 900.
I travel to malaysia but never seem to be sucessful in getting my phone there to make local calls.
Took to a Maxis shop and no help.  At least store I visited couldn't find a SIM card that would work.
End up making about 15 local calls while there and was charged over $80.  Bad enough - but watsed a lot of time getting directions.
How can I easily adapt my phone for local use in Malaysia without always buying a cheap phone there??

Your case is different from the original poster, you should have created your own thread.
You have to understand that the cellular signal used in the US is different than the rest of the world. You also need an unlocked phone to be able to use different SIM cards.

  • Global variable access behaving differently

    Hi There,
    I am kind of confused at the way the output of this sql;
    select
    proc1.get_id(dwg_no, rev_id),
    proc1.get_adcn(1) from
    table t1,
    table2 t2
    where
    t1.pkey = t2.fkey;
    PL/SQL (Proc1)
    create package proc1
    function get_id(
    dwg_no varchar2(10),
    rev_id varchar2(4)
    function get_adcn(
    a number
    create package body proc1 ..
    --declare/set the global variable
    v_adcn_no varchar2(4) := null;
    funciton get_id (dwgno, revid) as
    v_rev_id varchar2(12) := null;
    select 'AB', '55' into v_rev_id, v_adcn_no from dual;
    return v_rev_id;
    funciton get_adcn (a number) as
    return v_adcn_no;
My expectation is th get_id function would be executed and the global variable v_adcn_no would be set to '55' so that this value would be returned when get_adcn fucntion is called.
But it doesn't happen so.(i validated this)
[at times i returns 55, at times it returns null]
Actually i simulated my problem with a simple example.
and I do not want to execute the same sql again when get_adcn function is called.
    Any help is highly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Srini

    Thx for your reply,
that does not meet my requirement, bcos there is no guarantee that get_rev_id function would be called first before get_adcn.
But my requirement is i want the rev_id function to be executed first, how would i ensure that.

  • Can I turn off cellular access but not wifi?

I want to use Google Voice overseas using wifi connection and am trying to test it at home.  The call out works, but am not sure if I'm riding on home wifi network or my carrier's cell network....

    Take a look at this:
HT4146 iOS: About cellular data usage
You can also temporarily disable cellular data when it’s not needed.
    From the Home screen:
iPhone: Tap Settings > General > Network
iPad: Tap Settings > Cellular Data
Slide the toggle next to Cellular Data to off. This will disable all cellular data traffic until it’s enabled again.

  • Will adding global access change my domestic plan?

Will adding global access to my phone now change my domestic calling plan and if so should I wait until I'm out of the country to change it?

        twodogsfourfish
I completely understand how important it is to be clear about any changes to your plan and coverage before completing changes! I can definitely go over the details with you. With being on the Nationwide plan currently, what global access were you looking to add to your plan? If the $25/100MB data plan for global data access, this will only add the $25 charge itself. If the $4.99 Voice Value plan to lower per minute rates outside the country, again it will only add the $4.99 charge itself and will not change your domestic plan. Were you looking to move to a More Everything Canada/Mexico plan instead? This would change your calling plan depending on when it was made effective.
As with any international trip, I definitely recommend reviewing our trip planner to make sure you're clear on all rates and dialing instructions before you go! The $25 and $4.99 features are not compatible in all countries. http://vz.to/1fb1kE8

  • Why is Verizon charging me monthly for my cellular iPad access when I signed up for just one month? Who do I contact?

I signed up for Verizon's month to month plan for cellular access and just discovered they are automatically renewing my monthly charges without my permission. Who and how can I contact Verizon to stop this and refund one month of unused cellular access? Please advise.

Well then I stand corrected. I bought my iPad with a Verizon MIFI2200 WiFi hotspot directly from Verizon Wireless when they were running a promo last October. Verizon had just started selling the iPad and they came out with this deal and I took advantage of the offer. My plan is also a month to month access plan, but as far as I know, you still have to contact Verizon to stop the service. I know with my plan, unless I specifically cancel the plan, it carries over to the next month. The advantage to this plan is that there was no contract to sign and I can cancel at anytime without any early termination fee. However, I still have to cancel the service if I don't want it to continue.
The bottom line is that the plan will continue month to month - there is just no contract to hold you to a two year agreement. You may have misunderstood or maybe you got bad information from the Apple rep, but what Verizon is doing is not being done without your permission - AFAIK. That is how month to month plans work.
If you really feel that the Apple rep misrepresented this to you, then why don't you go back to him/the store - whatever and plead your case with him/her/the store?

  • Access Provisioning and N+1

I have setup 3 new controllers in and N+1 configuration. Two are active and one is an HA-SKU backup controller which either of the primary's can failover to. The setup looks good and has been verified. Now it is time to provision access points. I have about 220 access points which sit in a different VLAN, and believe I need to configure a DHCP option to point towards a controller which brings these questions to mind. (I'd like to break these up between the primary controllers, 110 each)
If I create a DHCP option that forces the AP to register with one controller doesn't this defeat the purpose of N+1?
    Or
After the AP botos this will allow me to provision it and then I can specify one of two primary's and the backup controller?
If I specify the primary controller for an AP which is booting via DHCP with an option to point it to the first controller will the AP config override that and allow it to operate on the other primary controller which I just defined?
The controller config was fairly easy, but this is where I got confused.

    Hi Matthew,
    So this is the setup:
    Controller 1 <--> Controller 2 <--> SKU controller
    220 APs in different vlans
now you want to laod balance the APs between the two active controllers and keep the SKU as backup for all the APs.
Use DHCP optin 43 to help the APs on each VLAN to learn about that controller
The AP will learn about this WLC and will join it
For other APs in different VLAN let them learn the IP for the other WLC and they will join it.
After the APs joined the correct WLC, you can add the backup controller for them (SKU) from the GUI
If you want each WLC to exculsively allow particular APs to join (and don't accept the other controller APs) you can use AP policy (security -> AAA -> AP policy)
Keep in mind that SKU WLC is just backup and wont allow APs to join if the primary WLC is active hence it wont affect the load balancing
After the AP joins the WLC you can indeed change the primary/ secondary WLC (Wireless -> access point -> select this one -> HA ) or you can do it globally (wireless -> access point -> global configurations -> HA part )
I hope this answered your question!
    Cheers,
    Nour

  • Why does iphone use cellular data to contact internet when wifi is available?

If I leave Mobile Data (or Cellular Data) enabled on my iphone,
I find that the phone uses my carrier phone service to access the internet about 10 times
per day. The accesses tend to be mostly very small data transfers (say about 10KB).
I have no idea why these transfers are taking place, but I can see them on my Vodofone bills.
Since I am rarely away from my home wifi facility, I would also expect any access to
use wifi as a first choice, and notify me if there was a need to use cellular access.
So I have 2 questions. What are these data transfers that I am not explicitly requesting,
and why are these data transfers not made through free home wifi as a first choice.
Apple has advised me to turn off mobile data unless I am away from my free wifi.
    Mike

Thanks for the reply. I haven't used visual voicemail. My preference would be for any data transfer to be done on wifi when wifi is available. Battery life is not currently an issue for me. I do think that it shoud be possible to find out which service or app is causing the data transfer. Although I am not near my data limit at present, I do think that I have a right to know why a service, for which
    i pay, is bring used.

  • Segregation of  global layout and user Specific  for IW38 with Activity 23

    Hi All,
We have issue that users are able to change the Global Layout in IW38 transaction codes, which is causing lot of confusion for other users. Please can anyone help me to do some investigation around how the access to Global Layout and User-Specific layout can be segregated.
We would like to achieve below things:
    1)     Can we control provision access in such way users can only change layout specific to them?
    2)     They should not be able to change Global Layout
    3)     List of roles having Authorization object S_ALV_LAYO with activity 23.
If anyone already faced this issue, can you please let me know how they resolved it
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi David,
    > The standard S_ALV_LAYO object is, so far as I know, no use for normal day to day end users as it over-rides the restrictions?
It's up to the business, but ours wanted the managers to set a global layout for all other users to display only... as sort of a standard report.  I agree with you in the challenge of determining who to give the long-term S_ALV_LAYO w/23 global maintenance access.  We used to have this S_ALV_LAYO in every role that contained a report access (honest design mistake), hence that is why we created a separate role contained just S_ALV_LAYO w/ 23 access  --> to managers only.
In our generic system role that is given to everyone, we have both S_ALV_LAYO (as blank) and F_IT_ALV (as 01, 02) so all non-manager users are able to create/save local layout & still view global layout.
F_IT_ALV activity 70 gives the authority to overwrite other's local layout (the "Manage Layout" access), so we only gave 01  and 02.  Be careful here, as giving 03 (display) will make all other activities inactive.
    Best,
    Alice

  • How do I share non-global zone filesystem?

I have a non-global zone that needs to have a UFS local filesystem. That file system also needs to be accessible (via NFS or whatever) to another non-global zone.
    Can this be done?

I have a non-global zone that needs to have a UFS
local filesystem. That file system also needs tobe
accessible (via NFS or whatever) to another
    non-global zone.
Can this be done? Not directly by the non-global zone. You can't
    currently serve NFS from them.
However, could you host the filesystem in the global
zone, then have both of the non-global zones access
    it as a loopback filesystem?
DarrenOne of the non-global zones needs to write memory mapped files to the filesystem.
    All zones need read/wite access.
Is it legit to have multiple zones having read/write access to a loopback filesystem?

  • Using labview global in test stand sequence steps

If I have to pass data between different steps ( only labview vis) within same Main sequence, is it right using LabVIEW globals, rather than TestStand globals?
in one step, I will be writing data to the Global.
In a later step, I will be reading the global to access that data.
    Example sequence:
I am more comfortable with using Labview globals than Teststand variables. Labview is the only adapter in my sequence.

If it is just within one sequence, then I would use the TestStand variables.  The reason is because you are limiting your possible reuse of those VIs by using the global.  If you pass in the value, you have a better chance of being able to reuse the VI.
