Global CSS

hello,
i have something like "3-level" depth project of .swf movies
loading into the main .swf.
i have one CSS style in root of the main .swf
var flashCSS:TextField.StyleSheet = new
TextField.StyleSheet();
_global.flashCSS.setStyle("p",
{color:'#000000',
fontFamily:'Verdana, Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif',
fontWeight:'normal',
fontSize:'10'}
_global.flashCSS.setStyle(".hdl",
{color:'#959595',
fontFamily:'Verdana, Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif',
fontWeight:'normal',
fontSize:'10'}
i would like to apply this CSS to
ANY textfield in
ALL levels of the project ...
but if i apply the CSS in some loaded (external) .swf like
this:
textWindow.styleSheet = flashCSS;
textWindow.htmlText = "<span class='hdl'>Example
Example Example</span>";
it does not work at all and CSS is not applied
does anyone know how to use one CSS globally in all levels of
the project (including loaded external .swf)?

An interesting thing is that you can override the defined colors in a scope specific way.
For example in caspian.css -fx-base under the .root style class is defined as a -fx-base: #d0d0d0; which gives it a light grey color (which is horrible IMO as the gray color themes look so 90s).
But, you can define a custom stylesheet and under it's .root set -fx-base: antiquewhite and then everything is this nice antique white color rather than a metallic silver color.
Now if you would like all of your buttons in peach and your scroll bars in gold, under the .button style set -fx-base to peachpuff and for .scroll-bar set -fx-base to palegoldenrod.
You can also define a styleclass bigredeasy button with a -fx-base of firebrick and -fx-font-size of 5em and any button you assign that styleclass will have nice big letters on a red background.
This trick also works for inline styles, so if you only want to create one bigredeasy button, instead of using a styleclass, you could button.setStyle("-fx-base: firebrick; -fx-font-size: 5em;") in the code.
The great thing about all this is that when you redefine -fx-base everything else in caspian is derived from it, including all of the gradients, the enable/disable coloring, the hover and pressed state coloring etc. These means you don't lose all of the visual candy (some of which is integral to the UX of the whole UI) from the default css style like you would if you instead did button.setStyle("-fx-background-color: firebrick");
So, for your example, I'd suggest:
.root {
  -fx-custom-color: #666666;
.button {
  -fx-base: -fx-custom-color;
}

  • Following a tutorial and no global.css

    Hello all. I'm following the "page layout tutorial" in The
    Missing Manual for DW CS3. I'm at the section, 'Applying Some
    Style' (page 357). At this point, I am going to create new styles
    to format my new page (because it's a pre-made layout)- change
    fonts and stuff. Book says to click Attach External Style Sheet
    button, which I did. I am supposed to Browse and navigate to the
    CSS folder and double click file "global.css" then click OK to
    attach external style sheet.
    I don't have that CSS folder or a "global.css" file. The
    reason why i don't is because i didn't download and install the
    dummy files from the book's website; I proceeded to use my own
    banner, my own photos, etc.
    So, now what do I about locating/creating CSS folder and/or
    global.css file?
    Jodi

    The only place I can find a global.css document is within the
    Spry Updater package. But I don't think that is the one you are
    looking for.
    Wait a minute I just read more of your post. Go to the
    website and download the folder. Then copy the global.css document
    to where you need it and modify it as you need to.

  • Adding a Global CSS style change

    Hi
    How would I implement the following CSS change to application templates
    #uOneCol {
    clear: both;
    margin: 0 50px;
    min-height: 500px;
    I do not want to add this in line within each APEX header page, I would like to enter it once in the global CSS file. But where is this located and what is the best way of accessing it

    Hi Rambo,
    you could add it to the page templates.
    To do so, go to
    "Home -> Application Builder -> Application XYZ -> Shared Components -> Templates"
    and select the PAGE template you would like to add this to.
    Place your changes in the header section and see if this works.
    Thanks
    Sandro

  • Global CSS definitions

    Hy there,
    i wonder if there is a possibility to declare some "global" custom styledefinitions.
    Not global own style classes, because i know how to do that.
    Further i mean to do some -fx-customColor: #666666;
    and use that definition on a button:
    .button{
    -fx-background-color: -fx-customColor;
    i know that there is a -fx-color where all colors can be derived but i need to define
    more than one custom color ;)

  • CSS layout problems in IE

    DW8
    In IE, this web page looks "squished." In FF and NS, it looks
    wonderful. This is the work of a student of mine and I would like
    to give a semi-intelligent answer as to why it's behaving as it
    does in IE. I am teaching a beginner's level of DW and am working
    through two books now on CSS, but am not at a comfortable level yet
    in browser differences and figuring out hacks for one and not the
    other. This guy has a graphics background and always turns in
    excellent work.
    I realize from searching and reading other posts that IE
    doesn't support CSS as much as the other browsers. Is there
    anything any of you can spot for this result? (The exercise was to
    use a DW template to create three pages.)

  • How to get rid of a CSS style instance that is effecting the wrong page

    I am new to CSS and I am working in Dreamweaver CC.  I am mostly designing in the large screen view and then making my changes to the tablet and phone later.
    I have the large screen design finished, and now am making changes to the tablet size. I am working on the footer (for example) and when I change the margins and sizes of the elements in the footer, it is changing the large screen version as well.  It is almost like the CSS instance for the footer is overriding my Global CSS for the footer on the large screen version.
    This is so confusing to me, I thought I could make changes in the tablet version and it wouldn't effect the other screens.
    What do I do to get the tablet CSS to stop effecting my large screen?
    thank  you

  • CSS background & border graphic confusion

    I'm helping this lady with a few things on her site but don't know how to fix the purple gradient background (http://mabelspralines.com/images/subBGProd.png) to show behind the Products table (table BG stays white) here
    http://mabelspralines.com/_productsFINAL.html   new
    to look like it does here:
    http://mabelspralines.com/products.html     previous
    CSS: http://mabelspralines.com/styles/global.css
    Also the original site had this gold shaded border not just at the top like it is now, but down the sides of the content div and the bottom as part of the footer. Here are the images:
    http://mabelspralines.com/images/vertbg.jpg
    http://mabelspralines.com/images/bottbg.jpg
    I tried a few things, but can't seem to make it display like the original designer intended - one wrong CSS adjustment and the whole thing goes haywire.
    Also, why is there a 1/2" space above the header on each page?
    Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

    I try to keep things simple.
    Take the footer for instance. At the moment you have
    <div class="footer">
         <ul class="list" id="ftnav">
              <li class="list"><a href="index.html">home</a> |</li>
              <li class="list"><a href="about.html">about</a> |</li>
              <li class="list"><a href="products.html">products</a> |</li>
              <li class="list"><a href="events.html">events</a> |</li>
              <li class="list"><a href="testimonials.html">testimonials</a> |</li>
              <li class="list"><a href="contact.html">contact </a></li>
         </ul>
         <p>&copy; 2009 Mabel's Gourmet Pralines. All rights reserved. Site by SOF Designs</p>
    </div>
    The above should look like
    <div class="footer">
         <ul>
             <li><a href="index.html">home</a> |</li>
             <li><a href="about.html">about</a> |</li>
             <li><a href="products.html">products</a> |</li>
             <li><a href="events.html">events</a> |</li>
             <li><a href="testimonials.html">testimonials</a> |</li>
             <l><a href="contact.html">contact </a></li>
         </ul>
         <p>&copy; 2009 Mabel's Gourmet Pralines. All rights reserved. Site by SOF Designs</p>
    </div>
    This reduces the number of keystrokes during development and makes it a lot easier to read. Also a CLASS does everything that an ID does with the exception of uniqueness. Hence I always use a CLASS except where an ID is required for exact identification. The latter is often used in JS and DOM manipulation.
    The style rules for the proposed footer looks like
    .footer {
        background: url(http://mabelspralines.com/images/bottbg.jpg) no-repeat;
        height: 40px;
        padding: 15px;
    .footer ul {
        font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
        font-size: 12px;
        padding: 0px;
        list-style-type: none;
        margin-left: 238px;
        margin-top: 0px;
        margin-right: 0px;
        margin-bottom: 0px;
    .footer li {
        display: inline;
    When using images as in
    <img src="http://mabelspralines.com/images/home1.jpg" alt="Home" width="82" height="25" border="0" id="home_bt" />
    The red coloured part should be included in the CSS, again reducing keystrokes and making it easier to change the values. But why use (different) images for the menu buttons. If you cannot find a CSS alternative you can use the same image for the menu buttons and use text for the label. This has an added advantage in that your anchor elements are not empty which is frowned upon. Instead of using mouse events, use CSS to replace the image as in
    a
    a:hover
    a:focus
    At this stage I will not give you examples for a better functioning menu, I shall leave it up to you to find out. If you run into trouble, please come back here.

  • CSS update question

    I had font-size = 12 as a global CSS tag. Changed to 14 but no updates of existing elements displayed. Exited app and restarted, now CSS displays as 14pt in the property sheet but obviously still really 12 pt on run. Is there a call or invalidateDisplayProperties or something that can help refresh this?

  • CS3 Spry css question

    I know basic tableless css, my question is instead of a regular navigation bar I need to use the spry widget for a dropdown navigation bar on an exisitng html page. I'm able to insert the spry in the correct spot on the .html page and get it to work but I have a css sheet already attached to the page I need to know if I can just select all the css from the spry css page and insert it inside my attached css page?
    Any help?

    Yes, you can move the styles, but in my opinion, it is safer to maintain the Spry CSS assets in their own file, safe from inadvertent deletion or harm. There is an inherent logic to the order of styles in the Spry CSS sheets, and you might lose the wisdom of the comments not to mention the orderly consistency as well.
    You may link many style sheets to your .html pages...you are not limited to one per page.
    By using several CSS files attached to one page, you can also have a separate style sheet for different media: one for the Screen, one for Print, one for a Handheld device. There's no reasonable way to keep all these varying uses for different style sheets all one ONE sheet. The Printer will look for your main style sheet AND at the overriding styles in the print style sheet, for instance, so you don't need to print the nav bar when what you want is a print of the content.
    Z
    You do, of course, need to NAME the CSS files with distinct names, for instance, global.css, print.css, handheld.css.

  • Help with css please

    Can some help me put my css correct please.  Basicly im learning and its crap!  The only good thing so far is my dropdown menu.
    My wording which start Bristol equestrian services isn't even in the middle of the box,  I can't write content next to my image or it goes down to the bottom of the image, and my content area which start quality..... is to the right!

  • ADF Skinning: Globally

    Hi,
    I am wondering how do i achieve global css effect on all buttonComponent ( all kinds of buttons even toolbarbuttons) , and also i wanted to change the selection color on all the selectable components, like row on table selection, navigation, buttons, all of the selection color which is blue to orange ....
    Please, can you guide me... i was completely lost on the skinning document, i am very new to this part of adf.
    jdev :11.1.1.3.0
    Thanks

    The ADF Skin Editor can help you identify the color that is bein inherited by all such components.
    This demo might help:

  • Using Global Style for DatagridHeader and DataGridColumn

    Can someone tell me how to apply Globalstyles for the datagrid header and datagrid columns.
    I placed css styles in my lib project in defaults.css (as followed in   adobe material).
    I am refering this style in my projects in datagrid headers headerStyleName="SomeStyleNamefromCSS". Similarly how should I specify the styles for DataGridColumn in a Global CSS file (defults.css).Because I dont want to set style seperately in all of my projects.
    Also does the DatagridColumns inherit the styles from headerStyle of the Datagrid and how to deal with it in CSS files. I am using Flex 4.1
    Any suggestions on this is very much appreciated

    The headers pick up styles from headerStyleName, but the renderers don't.
    Anything set on the DG should get picked up by all headers and renderers,
    but you can also make a custom renderer and a type selector for it.

  • DW CS4 Help with jump menu opening a new window.

    First, I can't believe that Adobe left out an easy to use behavior to do this.
    I have some jump menus, and I would like the selection to open up a new window and have the content appear there.  I saw a couple of old topics here that offered some suggestions, but they didn't work for me.  I could get it to open a new window, but the content was not there.  I saw where you need to add a "GO" button, and add a "Open New Window"behavior to it.  That is what opened the new window with new content.  I do not have the "GO" buttons on the jump menus in this code, but did try it and it didn't work.   If anyone can help and tell me how to do it, and where to place the code, I would greatly appreciate it.
    I know this is long, but here is my code for the page.

    I'm confused by your post and code.  Adobe has a function to do this.  In the Insert Toolbar under the Tab "Forms" there is an option to create a jump menu.  The only options that menu gives you is the same window or a frame on the page (a very outdated action looking at it now).  But with basic knowledge of links you insert the menu and you will get code like:
      <select name="jumpMenu" id="jumpMenu" onChange="MM_jumpMenu('parent',this,0)">
    The "parent" denotes that this will open in the same window.  If you change that to "blank" then it will open in a new window.  A "Go" button is optional and also available in the DW GUI when you set up a jump menu.

  • Lighttpd not showing graphics/layout. Any idea?

    Hi there!
    I finally managed to get the whole lighttpd,php,sqlite,fast_cgi Thing going on the dockstar (archlinuxarm).
    I wanted to use a Blogging software like "flatpress" or "chyrp" but I ran into some issue.
    On both of these Sites (index.php from flatpress and chyrp) I do not have any graphics/style and layout. It shows only the Page with the basic text and links but no style/theme/graphics.
    Does anyone know how to get the styles/graphics and layout working.
    I have made a chmod -R 777 on those folders of chyrp and also flatpress but this does not change anything regardnig  the issue.
    Following some Informations which could help to determine the issue:

    [PHP]
    ; About php.ini ;
    ; PHP's initialization file, generally called php.ini, is responsible for
    ; configuring many of the aspects of PHP's behavior.
    ; PHP attempts to find and load this configuration from a number of locations.
    ; The following is a summary of its search order:
    ; 1. SAPI module specific location.
    ; 2. The PHPRC environment variable. (As of PHP 5.2.0)
    ; 3. A number of predefined registry keys on Windows (As of PHP 5.2.0)
    ; 4. Current working directory (except CLI)
    ; 5. The web server's directory (for SAPI modules), or directory of PHP
    ; (otherwise in Windows)
    ; 6. The directory from the --with-config-file-path compile time option, or the
    ; Windows directory (C:\windows or C:\winnt)
    ; See the PHP docs for more specific information.
    ; http://php.net/configuration.file
    ; The syntax of the file is extremely simple. Whitespace and lines
    ; beginning with a semicolon are silently ignored (as you probably guessed).
    ; Section headers (e.g. [Foo]) are also silently ignored, even though
    ; they might mean something in the future.
    ; Directives following the section heading [PATH=/www/mysite] only
    ; apply to PHP files in the /www/mysite directory. Directives
    ; following the section heading [HOST=www.example.com] only apply to
    ; PHP files served from www.example.com. Directives set in these
    ; special sections cannot be overridden by user-defined INI files or
    ; at runtime. Currently, [PATH=] and [HOST=] sections only work under
    ; CGI/FastCGI.
    ; http://php.net/ini.sections
    ; Directives are specified using the following syntax:
    ; directive = value
    ; Directive names are *case sensitive* - foo=bar is different from FOO=bar.
    ; Directives are variables used to configure PHP or PHP extensions.
    ; There is no name validation. If PHP can't find an expected
    ; directive because it is not set or is mistyped, a default value will be used.
    ; The value can be a string, a number, a PHP constant (e.g. E_ALL or M_PI), one
    ; of the INI constants (On, Off, True, False, Yes, No and None) or an expression
    ; (e.g. E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE), a quoted string ("bar"), or a reference to a
    ; previously set variable or directive (e.g. ${foo})
    ; Expressions in the INI file are limited to bitwise operators and parentheses:
    ; | bitwise OR
    ; ^ bitwise XOR
    ; & bitwise AND
    ; ~ bitwise NOT
    ; ! boolean NOT
    ; Boolean flags can be turned on using the values 1, On, True or Yes.
    ; They can be turned off using the values 0, Off, False or No.
    ; An empty string can be denoted by simply not writing anything after the equal
    ; sign, or by using the None keyword:
    ; foo = ; sets foo to an empty string
    ; foo = None ; sets foo to an empty string
    ; foo = "None" ; sets foo to the string 'None'
    ; If you use constants in your value, and these constants belong to a
    ; dynamically loaded extension (either a PHP extension or a Zend extension),
    ; you may only use these constants *after* the line that loads the extension.
    ; About this file ;
    ; PHP comes packaged with two INI files. One that is recommended to be used
    ; in production environments and one that is recommended to be used in
    ; development environments.
    ; php.ini-production contains settings which hold security, performance and
    ; best practices at its core. But please be aware, these settings may break
    ; compatibility with older or less security conscience applications. We
    ; recommending using the production ini in production and testing environments.
    ; php.ini-development is very similar to its production variant, except it's
    ; much more verbose when it comes to errors. We recommending using the
    ; development version only in development environments as errors shown to
    ; application users can inadvertently leak otherwise secure information.
    ; Quick Reference ;
    ; The following are all the settings which are different in either the production
    ; or development versions of the INIs with respect to PHP's default behavior.
    ; Please see the actual settings later in the document for more details as to why
    ; we recommend these changes in PHP's behavior.

    ; Output buffering is a mechanism for controlling how much output data
    ; (excluding headers and cookies) PHP should keep internally before pushing that
    ; data to the client. If your application's output exceeds this setting, PHP
    ; will send that data in chunks of roughly the size you specify.
    ; Turning on this setting and managing its maximum buffer size can yield some
    ; interesting side-effects depending on your application and web server.
    ; You may be able to send headers and cookies after you've already sent output
    ; through print or echo. You also may see performance benefits if your server is
    ; emitting less packets due to buffered output versus PHP streaming the output
    ; as it gets it. On production servers, 4096 bytes is a good setting for performance
    ; reasons.
    ; Note: Output buffering can also be controlled via Output Buffering Control
    ; functions.
    ; Possible Values:
    ; On = Enabled and buffer is unlimited. (Use with caution)
    ; Off = Disabled
    ; Integer = Enables the buffer and sets its maximum size in bytes.

    ; Production Value: 4096
    ; http://php.net/output-buffering

    ; You can redirect all of the output of your scripts to a function. For
    ; example, if you set output_handler to "mb_output_handler", character
    ; encoding will be transparently converted to the specified encoding.
    ; Setting any output handler automatically turns on output buffering.
    ; Note: People who wrote portable scripts should not depend on this ini
    ; directive. Instead, explicitly set the output handler using ob_start().
    ; Using this ini directive may cause problems unless you know what script
    ; is doing.
    ; Note: You cannot use both "mb_output_handler" with "ob_iconv_handler"
    ; and you cannot use both "ob_gzhandler" and "zlib.output_compression".
    ; Note: output_handler must be empty if this is set 'On' !!!!

    ; outputs chunks that are few hundreds bytes each as a result of
    ; compression. If you prefer a larger chunk size for better
    ; performance, enable output_buffering in addition.

    ; directive is through the use of the error level constants and bitwise
    ; operators. The error level constants are below here for convenience as well as
    ; some common settings and their meanings.
    ; By default, PHP is set to take action on all errors, notices and warnings EXCEPT
    ; those related to E_NOTICE and E_STRICT, which together cover best practices and
    ; recommended coding standards in PHP. For performance reasons, this is the
    ; recommend error reporting setting. Your production server shouldn't be wasting
    ; resources complaining about best practices and coding standards. That's what
    ; development servers and development settings are for.
    ; Note: The php.ini-development file has this setting as E_ALL. This
    ; means it pretty much reports everything which is exactly what you want during
    ; development and early testing.
    ; Error Level Constants:
    ; E_ALL - All errors and warnings (includes E_STRICT as of PHP 5.4.0)
    ; E_ERROR - fatal run-time errors
    ; E_RECOVERABLE_ERROR - almost fatal run-time errors
    ; E_WARNING - run-time warnings (non-fatal errors)
    ; E_PARSE - compile-time parse errors
    ; E_NOTICE - run-time notices (these are warnings which often result
    ; from a bug in your code, but it's possible that it was
    ; intentional (e.g., using an uninitialized variable and
    ; relying on the fact it's automatically initialized to an
    ; empty string)
    ; E_STRICT - run-time notices, enable to have PHP suggest changes
    ; to your code which will ensure the best interoperability
    ; and forward compatibility of your code
    ; E_CORE_ERROR - fatal errors that occur during PHP's initial startup
    ; E_CORE_WARNING - warnings (non-fatal errors) that occur during PHP's
    ; initial startup
    ; E_COMPILE_ERROR - fatal compile-time errors
    ; E_COMPILE_WARNING - compile-time warnings (non-fatal errors)
    ; E_USER_ERROR - user-generated error message
    ; E_USER_WARNING - user-generated warning message
    ; E_USER_NOTICE - user-generated notice message
    ; E_DEPRECATED - warn about code that will not work in future versions
    ; of PHP
    ; E_USER_DEPRECATED - user-generated deprecation warnings
    ; Common Values:
    ; E_ALL (Show all errors, warnings and notices including coding standards.)
    ; E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE (Show all errors, except for notices)
