GLOBAL editing for Sharing & Permissions

I have a 1.5TB Volume (Data Only - non startup) that contains hundreds of folders, that contain thousands of files - some to many of which have Permissions set to "READ ONLY".
I want to copy the contents of this 1.5TB HD to a 2TB HD - as I have run out of space....however - I get countless errors due to what I believe are those permissions being set to READ ONLY.
Is there a way - globally - to set the Sharing & Permissions of every single file, in a folder - and/or every single folder in a volume - ALL at once?

Do a Finder -> Get Info on one of those top-level folders, unlock the lock at the bottom of the "Get Info" window, then set the "sharing * Permissions" to what you want. Then pull down on the "gear" menu at the bottom, and select the option to "Apply to enclosed items".

    Using Sharepoint 2010 Server and the UI I created My Site.
    In My Content there is "Shared Documents" and "Personal Documents".
    On each one if you click the carat on the right, you will see
a group of actions you can take.
    The actions include "View Properties, Edit Properties Manage Permissions" etc.
    How can I remove or disable "Manage Permissions" as an action on "Shared
Documents and Personal Documents" on that My Site page and for when any
other user creates a My Site page it not be there either?

It is normal for users to have full control over the content in their personal My Site (this includes the Personal and Shared Documents folders). This allows them to manage access on their own site (e.g. for Shared Documents).
On the MySite Host, users should not have the Manage Permissions right.

System:

MacBook Air (Mid 2011)
Single User – Administrative Account
Question:
What is factory default “Sharing & Permissions” setting for User folders (Desktop, Downloads, Library, Movies, Music, Pictures, Public), subfolders, and documents and other contents?
I’m thinking the factory default “Sharing & Permissions” for all of the above (except Drop Box in the Public folder) is as follows, but not certain.

Users cannot edit a shared calendar of a shared mailbox that was deleted from the cloud and recreated on premise

Description:
The following example account [email protected] is an on premise AD account being used as a shared mailbox in the cloud. We have discovered that regardless of what we do, not a single user can edit the calendar entries.
The following message is shown in Outlook Click to Run 2013 when an entry. "New appointment" button is also greyed out, including "Calendar Permissions" and some others.
This problem started when the shared mailbox was created wrongly by creating it in the cloud first and we had to delete it and start over. The "in the cloud" user was deleted and the same user was created in AD on-premise with the same account name
and then Dir Synced with the cloud. A license was assigned, a user mailbox on exchange online created and the type was converted to a shared mailbox and Editor rights were defined on the calendar folder for specific users.
Actions performed:
Action01: gave users Editor rights on calendar folder through powershell
Result01: Rights correctly added and can be seen when get-mailboxfolderpermission is ran
Action02: Opened calendar with Outlook and tried to edit entries
Result02: Error message pops up saying "You don't have permission to create an entry in this folder. Right click the folder and check..."
Action03: Opened calendar with OWA of users
Result03: Users can edit the shared calendar on OWA
Action04: Gave users Full Access permission on mailbox with automapping on

Additional information:
We have seen this problem with another user which was recreated, when he shares his calendar with others and people get the calendar invite email and click "Open Calendar" they receive a popup "The folder cannot be found".
My first impression points to a corruption/bug in the GAL on exchange online, since we're using o365 for midsize bussinesses we cannot use the AdressList role to expose the adresslist cmdlts for deeper troubleshooting.
PS:
Issue tested on different computers and with different user accounts, not a single user can edit the calendar of [email protected] when editor rights are given.
Noticed when editing rights for the shared mailbox in powershell after the first confirmation line

I haven't heard of that one.
Questions:
Does the calendar in question show up in the "Subscriptions" category of iCal?
If you remove all accounts from iCal > Preferences > Accounts and quit and re-open iCal, does the calendar in question vanish? If so, does the calendar come back when you re-input the servers you need into iCal > Preferences > Accounts?
Can you provide a screen shot of your calendar sidebar.
While you answer those questions, some troubleshooting to try:
Try dragging one of your other calendars above this calendar that won't delete and then quit / re-open iCal and attempt to delete the calendar in question.
Failing that:
1. First make an iCal backup: Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
4. Launch iCal and test.
If the issue persists at this point:
Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
---NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.

Default Sharing Permissions

I am creating a Numbers doc on my local machine and uploading it to iCloud for sharing by clicking Share > Share via iCloud > Copy Link. This is generally working ok, but the document is being shared with with sharing permissions set to "Allow Editing." I'd like it to default to "View Only."
How does one change the default setting for the sharing permissions? Or, if that is not possible, how would one upload a document to iCould Numbers from the local copy of Numbers and specify View Only as the sharing permissions?
I don't want to log into iCloud on the web every time I share a document just to update the permissions...

Sharing & Permissions broken?

I've seen a few posts claiming the Sharing & Permissions box in the Info window in Finder is a mess, but I couldn't see anything matching my exact problem...
I've logged into a network account on an OS X (Leopard) Server with a Snow Leopard client. (The problem also occurs with a Leopard client.)
Then I create a new folder in my home folder and open the Info window for the new folder.
In Sharing & Permissions, I select the 'group' row and try to remove it. I get an error saying the operation can't be completed because I don't have the necessary permission. (Leopard tells me it's error -50, whatever that is.)
However, if I just do "chmod go= the-folder" in a Terminal window to remove group and other permissions (with the Info window still open), the group line disappears! And "chmod go=rx" brings it back.
So it would seem I do have permission for what I want to do!
I'm trying to write some instructions for users in the office as to how to change their file permissions. Some people aren't command line oriented so using the Finder would have been nice.
Should I just chalk this one down to the broken Sharing & Permissions window again?

this is a bug (I reported it a while back) but not many people have noticed it. try this. unlock the lock at the bottom in the permissions panel with an admin password and THEN remove the group. it will let you. however, now try
ls -lae the-folder
look at the group. it has changed to wheel!! so what happens when you try to remove the group via GUI is that it does not only try to change the group permissions to 0 it also tries to change the group to wheel (GID=0).
that's why it barfs originally. you don't belong to wheel and you need an admin password to do chgrp.
this is of course absurd and is clearly a bug. it has been around since leopard.
so don't use GUI to remove group access. use terminal.

How to edit a shared file on my Mac?

Hi,
Is it possible to edit a shared file on my Mac?
I know it is possible on the web, using Numbers/Pages/Keynote for iCloud Beta. But I was wondering if it is also possible to download and edit the file.
I think it is also important that the file automatically updates himself when edited on the Mac, so the other user could see my changes.
So I don't have to download the file --> edit it --> upload the file.
Hopefully there is a solution for this problem, otherwise I'm hoping this will come in the near-future!

Best practices for sharing iPhoto libraries across multiple Macs

I have a pair of iMacs running 10.6.x. and iPhoto 11 connected via Ethernet to an Airport Extreme. I am looking for a way to share my iPhoto library between the two Macs.
I found an Apple Support note on the topic (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1198) which states that a disk image is a supported location for a shared iPhoto library (with limitations acceptable to me) and it strikes me that this would be a way of hosting a shared iPhoto library onto a NAS device.
Am I missing a simpler solution or, more importantly, am I missing any blindingly obvious caveats? I'd love to hear from anybody who has tried this (successfully or otherwise) or anybody who has a better idea. I haven't bought a NAS device yet, so I'm open to alternative suggestions.
Specific requirements:
Members of my family use either one of a pair of iMacs.
The only user who edits the iPhoto library is me and I only need read/write access from one machine.
iPhoto library access limited to one user at a time is acceptable and practical in my case.

Easiest:
If the other users only get to see the Library then just use iPhoto Sharing.
Enable sharing in the iPhoto Preferences on the Host machine, then go to the other macgine and in the same location enable 'Look for Shared Libraries'
Other forms of sharing will give the users read/write access to the Library.
A strong warning: If you're trying to edit the Library (that is, make albums, move photos around, keyword, make books or slideshows etc.) or edit individual photos in it via Wireless be very careful. Dropouts are a common fact of wireless networking, and should one occur while the app is writing to the database then your Library will be damaged. Simply, I would not do this with my Libraries.

Best Practices for sharing media with iMovie and FCPX

So I've a large iMovie Events directory, and would like to use that media with both iMovie and FCPX projects.
I'd rather not duplicate the media, so would prefer to import as references into FCPX.
The dilemma is that I see that it's possible to modify or move media from within the iMovie application, and therefore break the reference to that media with FCPX.
I only see two options: (1) Never Ever modify the location/name of media in the iMovie Events file (even from within the iMovie app) since I would break an FCPX link if that media is referenced, or (2) always import (copy) the iMovie events into the FCPX Event Library making an independent original so that I can confidently operate on those media files in either application.
I'd surely rather not have to do (2 )(e.g. doubling my storage demands) to gain the flexibility of using either application to edit the video, but really don't want to live with the restrictions of (1).
Thoughts / Solutions? What might you consider as options or best practices?

Unless there is some other reason, users should own the right to share their mailboxes - it shouldn't be something that demands administrator management (if only so that the administrators aren't swamped by user requests for sharing their mailboxes).
For true shared mailboxes, when the mailbox is created, full access is granted by an administrator.

Global Standard for Measures

Now that I know much more about data and data bases, I want to make very clear the requested standard, being the foundation of what I call the 'Base1' system.
The request is for a global standard of all measurements in all professions to be recorded for sharing as a single entity, called a 'Point' having attributes ID, URL, alt, lat, lon, time, measure, spatial radius, time radius, measure radius.
The URL being the contact for the originator of the measures, who is naturally charged with maintaining and making available MetaData on the techniques, and for searches, etc, on a per-list basis, each list having all such attributes in common and being the measure of one and only one magnitude (not any kind of difference, sum, or ratio). The list ID being attributed to each Point object from that list.
The time and time radius being in seconds since 1970 and seconds, respectively.
The altitude and spatial radius being in latitude seconds (to avoid feet/meters conventions confusion).
The measure radius being measured according to the same unit as the unit of measure (which unit of measure is recorded with the URL MetaData for the list).
The 'radius' refering to the +/- accuracy range for the point.
Any data which is sensitive being shared on a scale of 1.

activities are completed,then the TECO status can be set on the same day of final confirmation and GR or else on the next day.
If my understanding is correct then SAP suggests to set the TECO status once the shop floor activities are completed and no
where I could see the no of days for performing this activity.
If required this can be individually set at process order level in COR2 or else as month ending activity by setting TECO for a list
of process orders using T.Code COHVPI.
Check and revert back.

Hello all, I am a photographer and have my portfolio, edited and raw images backed up on a Seagate Free Agent External Hardrive. I mounted my external hard drive to a pc recently and now I don't have edit or write permissions to it on my Mac (read only). How do I get them back without erasing the drive and loosing my valuable work?

If you re-format it you will lose all the data on it!!!!! So make sure you have backed up the drive or moved all the data on it to another external HD or the internal HD on your iMac.

Editing and sharing custom metadata/keywords through Adobe Drive in Adobe Bridge

I am part of a four-person video production unit operating within a local governmental entity. We are currently using four licenses of Adobe Master Collection CS5, and are about to get access to dedicated SAN storage.
We would like each user to have the ability to assign specific keywords to any given video clip (or remove keywords from clips) within Adobe Bridge, and have the three other users see the same results. I've noticed that Bridge alone will allow for keywords to be added or removed, but this list is specific to each user. Importing one list into other users' profiles is a start, but would no longer work, once keywords are added or taken away.
The overview page for Adobe Drive 3 says that it, "allows users to edit and view custom metadata/properties through Adobe Drive in Adobe Bridge," but I haven't found any explanation in either the website, forums, or user's guides that delves any farther into this area. If we incorporate Adobe Drive/Bridge into our workflow, will we be able to share/sync keywords between users? Is there some other (affordable) solution that would let us do this?

The keywords you mentioned is XMP metadata, if all your digital assets are managed by ADEP CQ DAM service, you can use AD3 with built-in ADEP connector to communicate with the DAM server, then, I think it can meet your requirement, it means, the keywords can be set by one user through metadata panel in Bridge, and can be viewed by other users.
for custom properites, it's different from XMP metadata, it refers to the properties of one asset which is managed by a Content Management service. users have to use another UI to edit/view them in Br after AD3 is installed.
here are some requirements to use it.
1) CMIS 1.0 compiliant server should be used to manage all your digital assets
2) use the built-in CMIS with AD3 to connect to the server.
if other kind of servers are used, you should develope a custom connector through AD SDK to enable custom properties feature as well as some other handler required by AD SDK
