Global metadat edits, ie search and replace?

Does LR 1.0 support search and replace in metadata? Just realized I misspelled a product name that appears in each of 250 captions. I can't just sync them all, since different folks appear in different pix and I've spent last two days typing ID's. Any way to auto correct this? I run OS 10.4.9 on Powerbook G4 12in, 1GB. Many thanks, as always.

No, not really. Pretty certain you can do it via a Bridge script if that's any help.

  • Global Search and Replace for Scrambled/Garbled Characters

    So I exported a bunch (over 3000) contacts from my Outlook on Windows by using Outlook2Mac, and also tried just using a straight CSV export. But the Chinese characters came out all garbled, and I no longer have the use of that Windows machine anymore.
    Here's an example:
    Name: ∂¿¨¸™K (May Huang)
    Job Title: ±M§·∏g≤z
    Dept: ¿Á∑~≥B/ODM∑~∞»≥°
    Company: ®Ù•fl∞ͪ⁄
    Address:
    §≠™—∂m§≠≈v§≠∏Ù15∏π
    •x•_ø§
    •x∆W
    I figure I can slowly piece together most of it by doing lots of global search and replaces -- for instance, "•x∆W" should be "台灣" (Taiwan) -- and changing each characters I know one by one.
    Problem is, I can't figure out how to do a find and replace! Can anyone help me out?
    Thanks in advance!
    PowerBook G4 17   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    But for the sake of getting a solution to the
    original problem, I wasn't able to export the vCards
    from AddressBook and then do what you said. For some
    reason, I couldn't open the .vcf file in TextEdit;
    kept telling me that the file wasn't encoded in
    "Traditional Chinese (Windows, DOS)" format.
    You need to use the Open dialogue in TextEdit and open the .vcf in something that it will accept. When you export the stuff from Address book, it indeed is not in Trad Chinese.
    I don't have your stuff, so I can't be exactly sure, but it should work something like this. You export everything from Address Book. Use the Open dialogue of TextEdit to open the file, probably as UTF-8. Save as MacRoman. Open again as Trad Chinese (Windows). Save as UTF-8. Reimport. You may need to experiment to find what works right.

  • Global search and replace on large-scale multi-user sites

    Is there a way for Dreamweaver to select only the files that
    are found when using the find and replace facility? This would make
    updating large websites a lot easier.
    From time to time I need to perform small changes to text or
    code (that obviously is not contained in an include file or library
    item) sitewide. As the site is administered by multiple users, it
    uses the check-in/check-out system, which means that before editing
    a file, it needs to be checked out. Thus, we can't just use search
    and replace directly, we have to check out the relevant files
    before performing the replace routine. The problem is selecting
    only those files which will be affected by the search and replace
    (and perform the operation in minutes) rather than selecting
    everything (and spending hours).
    Since it seems one is unable to select only files that appear
    in the search results, I have to manually identify the folder that
    holds the files with the results, and then check it out. As the
    files which need to be edited might be scattered around the whole
    site, this often means that I have to check out whole folders close
    to the site root. The check-out command will include everything in
    a folder, and the site contains thousands of files (which has to be
    checked back in afterwards), so obviously this is a heavy and
    time-consuming operation.
    Does anyone know if DW has a way of selecting only the
    relevant documents, or have suggestions for other ways of doing
    this? I get the feeling that this is most easily achievable by
    using tools outside DW, but I hesitate to go outside DW since it
    would interfere with DW's site managment system.

    I don't think you will find anyone here with such experience,
    not the least
    reason being that Library items run out of useful steam at
    about 100 pages.
    To use them on larger sites is just too tedious and risky,
    honestly. Is
    there any possibility to change to server-side includes?

  • Search and Replace in Pages 5

    Search and Replace in Pages is now seriously regressive. Previously I could search for "invisibles" in a document and globally replace the search "invisible" by a replace one. Now I can't find a way of doing that. Any suggestions?

    Try this:
    Turn on Show Invisibles in the View menu.
    Select (highlight) the double para breaks.
    Use Command-E  (Find using selected text).
    Open the Find dialogue box (Command-F) and select Find & Replace.The selected para breaks will be in the Find text entry box, but will not be visible!
    Click in the Replace text entry box.
    Select (highlight) a single para break.
    Go to the Edit menu / Find and select 'Use selection for replace' (it will not show in the Replace entry box).
    In the Find & Replace dialogue box, click on the Forward or Back arrows to highlight the selected items (e.g. double para break) where you wish to start replacing in the document.
    Use the Replace All / Replace & Find / Replace buttons as per usual.
    Not a nice solution, but I hope it gets you going until Apple restores the previous functionality!

  • How do I search and replace in comments in Acrobat XI?

    I use a Mac and just downloaded Acrobat Pro XI specifically to search and replace phrases in comments in a large PDF. According to this Adobe Help page, I should be able to do this: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/searching-pdfs.html I copied the relevant section below and marked with ***. However, I don't see I don't see an arrow for the options that would allow me to include comments. I understand how to include the comments with advanced search, but I want to also replace text. I also checked in preferences and searched the forums. Could someone please advise and maybe include a screenshot, if possible. Thanks!
    Choose Edit > Find (Ctrl/Command+F).
    Type the text you want to search for in the text box on the Find toolbar.
    To replace text, click Replace With to expand the toolbar, then type the replacement text in theReplace With text box.
    (Optional) Click ***the arrow ***next to the text box and choose one or more of the following:
    Whole Words Only
    Finds only occurrences of the complete word you type in the text box. For example, if you search for the word stick, the words tick and sticky aren’t found.
    Case-Sensitive
    Finds only occurrences of the words that match the capitalization you type. For example, if you search for the word Web, the words web and WEB aren’t found.
    Include Bookmarks
    Also searches the text in the Bookmarks panel.
    ***Include Comments***
    Also searches the text of any comments.

    Here are screenshot of my attempts to make reducing double returns to one. First up selection of a double return:
    Copy to the clipboard. Do a Command-F. Here's the resulting dialogue:
    I paste in the contents of the clipboard:
    Note the Search field no longer has an empty slot selected. Something is clearly in there, but no instance of whatever is has been found. Nevertheless, I proceed to set up the Replace field by selecting a single return:
    Copy that to the clipboard and paste into the Replace field:
    Nothing to search for and therefore nothing to replace. Am now wondering what that little scoop to the right of the eyeglass icon might indicate. Clicking on it reveals this:
    Definitely not "a solution that just works."

    Your problem is the fact that you are converting it to an integer, thus loosing the fractional part. You need to use "Fract/Exp String To Number" instead and create a DBL so yor data is 23.3 instead of 23.
    You also don't need to manipulate the string if the initial part is of constant lenght. Just use the offset input as in the figure below.

  • Search and replace string formatting

    Hi,
    I am trying to do a search and replace formatting of a string.
    In the example I am looking for string "PASSED" but it must also start with usbflash and some number + PASSED.
    I can't get the format to have a number from 1-99. The number of replacements should add up to 6 in this case. I have tried with \d for any number, and I also tried [1-99].
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Right click on the Search And Replace String function.  There is an option to use Regular Expressions.  Then give this a try.
    EDIT: You will need to set the Replace All input to TRUE.

  • Search and Replace String throwing the wrong error message with regexp?

    This came up in a LAVA thread, and I'm not sure if there's a bug here or not. When using Search and Replace string, and using a regular expression of [(G[b|i])], LabVIEW throws error -4622, "There is an unmatched parenthesis in a regular expression."  There are obviously no unmatched parenthesis in that expression, so it seems to me that the wrong error is being thrown. I'm just not sure if that's a syntactically valid regexp. The problem seems to be with nesting [ ]'s inside ( )'s inside [ ]'s. I've tried a couple of regexp resources on the Web, and one suggests it's valid, while the other seems to think it isn't.

    I think your regexp is invalid.
    In regexps, brackets are not the same as parentheses.  Parens are for grouping, while brackets are for matching one of a class of characters.  Brackets can not be nested.
    If the regexp is replaced with [G[bi]], there is no error, so it's not a matter of nested brackets. I couldn't find anything on the PCRE man page that forbids nested brackets specifically, but it makes sense.
    Your expression "[(G[bi])]", therefore parses as a character class which matches '(', 'G', '[', 'b', or 'i' followed by an unmatched paren, and an unmatched bracket.
    I don't believe that's the case. Replace the regexp with [(Gbi)], and the error goes away. So it's not a matter of the '(' being literal, and then encountering a ')' without a matching '('.
    daveTW wrote:
    what string exactly you want to replace? I think the round braces are not right in this case, since they mark partial matches which are given back by "match regular expression". But you don't want to extract parts of the string, you want to replace them (or delete, with empty <replace string>). So if you leave the outer [( ... )] then your RegEx means all strings with either "Gb" or "Gi".
    It's not my regular expression. A poster at LAVA was having problems with one of his (a truly frightening one), and this seemed to be the element that was causing the problem. I'm pretty sure that the originator of the regexp meant to use G(b|i), which seems like a complicated way of matching "Gb" or "Gi", if you ask me.

  • How to edit the find-and-replace dialog in Dreamweaver 8

    For over 13 years I have been a happy user of Macromedia Dreamweaver 8. And I still see no reason to use any other program for editting PHP.
    However, 1 thing has been bugging me for years. In the find-and-replace dialog there is a select "Find in". The options are in a dropdown.
    I want this select to be a multiselector (not in functionality, but just so I don't need to click to get the dropdown, but just one click to select).
    I read in the help at 'Customizing the appearance of dialog boxes' at point 4
    On your disk, find the appropriate HTM file in the Configuration/Objects, Configuration/ Commands, or Configuration/Behaviors folder.
    I've been searching but can not find the code for that dialog, althou it should be easy. Also did a search for that 'save' image, because once I find that, I can find this form, but its not in the macromedia folder.
    how to edit the find-and-replace dialog in Dreamweaver 8?

    It's looks less like an image and more like a form drop list to me.
    Yes its a dropdown list. But to find the code for that select I tried to find the htm file that code is on by searching for the save-image which is also on that page (next to the yellow folder). I did a search on all folders in c:/programfiles/macromedia and that image is not in there. If I could find the image name, I could search the code for that and should find that htm (or javascript) which is outputting it, then the select must be near to that.
    I also searched the code for the various texts on the page and got many hits, but not from the dialog page. I can't search dll files, so maybe thats where that code is in.

    Using XPath to locate the elements you are after is very easy.
    Try something like this:
    import java.io.File;
    import javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory;
    import javax.xml.transform.Transformer;
    import javax.xml.transform.TransformerFactory;
    import javax.xml.transform.dom.DOMSource;
    import javax.xml.transform.stream.StreamResult;
    import javax.xml.xpath.XPath;
    import javax.xml.xpath.XPathConstants;
    import javax.xml.xpath.XPathFactory;
    import org.w3c.dom.Document;
    import org.w3c.dom.NodeList;
    import org.xml.sax.InputSource;
    public class BasicXMLReplaceWithDOM4J {
         static String inputFile = "C:/student.xml";
         static String outputFile = "C:/studentRenamed.xml";
         public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
              // Read xml and build a DOM document
              Document doc = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance()
                        .newDocumentBuilder().parse(new InputSource(inputFile));
              // Use XPath to find all nodes where student is named 'Suresh'
              XPath xpath = XPathFactory.newInstance().newXPath();
              NodeList nodes = (NodeList)xpath
                   .evaluate("//stud_name[text()='Suresh']", doc, XPathConstants.NODESET);
              // Rename these nodes
              for (int idx = 0; idx < nodes.getLength(); idx++) {
                   nodes.item(idx).setTextContent("Suresh-Renamed");
              // Write the DOM document to the file
              Transformer xformer = TransformerFactory.newInstance().newTransformer();
              xformer.transform(new DOMSource(doc), new StreamResult(new File(outputFile)));

  • Problem with search and replace

    I'm workin on Windows XP, Dreamwearver 8
    When I do a search and replace in a site, the changes will be
    made correctly, however, the auto date stamp that I'm using on my
    pages will duplicate on random pages and overwrite text This
    doesn't occur on all pages, and isn't connected with the actual
    change I'm making. Has anyone experienced this?

    Ok Gary, but...
    in a SQLWorksheet write:
    ababab
    Now Edit -> Replace search for b , replace with \nb
    Result (the last b is not replaced):
    a
    ba
    bab
    At this point, I want to have my string back on one line: Edit -> Replace search for \n , replace with (nothing here)
    Result: The search text "\n" was not found.
    And to make it work I have to tick the Regular Expressions checkbox (in this case substitute escaped characters is ignored).
    While I agree that "it is good to have a choice", I personally find it confusing: none of the few text editors I use (Linux or OSX) behaves this way.
    Regards.

  • Can i search and replace in the itunes library database file?

    Hi --
    I need to update the file location in the itunes database for a few thousand songs. These songs are just part of my full collection. A few hundred of these songs are referenced in playlists. Rebuilding the libarary, consolidating the library, adding the new folder to library -- none of these suggested solutions to similar problems will work for me. (My collection is too large for one drive and is spread over several drives, and I have many playlists with hundreds of songs, and the playlists would be ruined with any of these approaches.)
    I thought I had an easy solution by doing a search and replace in "itunes library.xml," replacing the old file path with the new one. But then I learned (as you probably already know) that the real information is stored in "itunes library," and the xml file is just a downstream copy of that information. All my edits were overwritten as soon as I opened itunes.
    The solution to my problem is completely straight-forward if I can just do a search and replace in "itunes libray." Is it possible to edit that file directly? The only database program I have is MS Access, on windows, and it couldn't open the file.
    Thanks very much

  • Can I do search and replace in a batch?

    Hi, Everyone:
    Years ago before I start useing Indesign, I had a Chinese Desktop Prepress program named Westwinner, With tahat I could create a file putting all entries  needed to search and replace in, and search and replace all of them in one shot. Now I wonder if I can do the same with Indesign CS4.
    For your reference, the file for batch search I used in Westwinner looks like that:
    x@x'
    y@y'
    z@z'
    etc.
    Thanks for everyone that reply!

    I meant that scripts can be edited in a plain text editor like Notepad on Windows or the equivalnet on Mac. You still need to understand the scripting language. That script should be availble in AppleScript, VBScript (which work only on Mac or Windows, repectively) or JavaScript, which is cross-platform.
    You don't actually need to edit the script itself very much, I suspect, if at all. In the Javascript version (I'm looking at that in the ESTK) on line 116 you'll see: var myFindChangeFile = myFindFile("/FindChangeSupport/FindChangeList.txt")
    This line is telling the script to find the file FindChangeList.txt in the FindChangeSupport folder which shoujld be inthe same folder as the the script itself. All of the instructions for want to find and how to change it are in that text file, which is a tab-delimited file with each find/change operation on a single line. The stucture of that file is described in the comments section above the script code, so you should be able to design a new file to do what you need to do, then change that single line defining the variable to find the new text file and save the script. If you replace the existing FindChangeList.txt with your own file you wouldn't even need to edit the variable, but the script as written is so useful I wouldn want to give it up, so I'd make a new text file, edit the variable, and save the script with a new name for your own searches.
    I'm not really a script writer, myself. I read javascript fairly well so I was able to see how this script works, but if you need more help you probably should move over to the scripting forum and talk to the real experts.

  • Search and replacing a url...

    I just ran across an issue last night, my hyperlinks added a space at the end of the url. Does anyone know how to do a search and replace for the hyperlink window? I ended up editing every one of them. It probably wouldn't be so bad but that is a lot of repetition that InDesign should be doing.
    Edit: I should mention that I am using CS3 on Windows XP. I am thinking I hit a bug with the above, the spaces should not have been there.

    The document was imported from word 97. Last night I deleted the text and reimported it as I updated a few of the links. (Yeah I know about linking the document) I also added a few directly in InDesign. All hyperlinks except 2 had a space after them, those 2 were imported. Which makes me believe the problem was not with the importing(placing) but perhaps a bug in InDesign. This document use to export to pdf just fine. One thing I had noticed was the paragraph mark on all but those two were marked as a hyperlink. Even though I did a search and replace on all the paragraph marks to remove the hyperlink, the space remained in the url. So I ended up double clicking on each hyperlink in the hyperlink window and manually removing the space at the end of each url.

  • Joker characters in the search and replace function

    Hello everyone,
    Just a quick question :
    I was wondering what character can be used as a joker character in the search and replace function (I did a research in the site, but didn't find any thread)
    To be clear, I have misspelled a word, for example «trouser».
    I know I didn't make any mistake with the first and last letter, but sometimes I wrote it «tourser», «turoser»
    (sorry if there is a weird meaning, i'm french, and for me it won't mean anything, so don't take it personally)
    I would like to be able te replace all the versions of «trouser», even the good ones, using «t*****r» in the search and replace function.
    I tried the «*» character, but it's not the jocker.
    Thank you for your help !

    As I can't edit my first message, just wanted to let you know it's also called «wildcard» characters
