Global Metadata changes in Bridge?

When CS5 Bridge and adding my metadata changes for my photos, I cant seem to find a way to make these changes globally to several large blocks of photos.  I tried to click on all the photos involved but then it refused to accept any changes.  PLease! tell me there is a way?  I even tried to "saved" the changes so all I had to do was one click on the new photo but that didnt work either.   I'm new to Bridge so please bear with me.  Thanks.

If what you want to change is description, credits, copyright and other IPTC and other metadata that is shown in File Info, you can use Bridge to change multiple image files at a time.  In Bridge, select the block or blocks of images for which you want to change the metadata. Then right click and and click on File Info... in the right-click popup menu (or instead ofright click, use Control-I or File > File Info...).  This will bring up File Info dialog box.  If what you want to change is in a saved template, you can click on the templates button (at bottom of file Info box between Preferences and OK).  Select and click desired template, which should bring up Import Options popup box. Select one of the three options, depending on how much of existing in-file metadata you want to keep or replace.  Or instead of calling a template, you can make entries directly into desired File Info fields.  Any information you enter in a field overrides existing metadata and applies the new value to all of your selected files.

  • How do I get Bridge and Lightroom to respect - read - metadata changes?

I cull my wedding images in Bridge (CS 6) and then export them into LR 4.  I typically rate images as I'm culling, but when I import those images into LR, the ratings don't carry over.  Likewise, when I label images in LR and export them, Bridge shows all the color labels as white - regardless of which label was actually assigned.

Lr saves all edits and any other metadata changes in its database (= the catalog).
Additionally to the catalog you can <save to file>,i.e. to a xmp-file (in case of a Raw photo), or in the header (but not in the image pixels!) of a JPG, TIFF, or PSD.
Saving to file is done by
_ either checking the box <Automatically save changes to xmp> in >Edit >Catalog Settings >metadata tab, or manually
_ by going >Metadata >Save metadata to file (in Lr Library Module), or
_ by going >Photo >Save metadata to file (in Develop Module.
When you save manually to file you can select multiple photos in the Grid Mode and do <Save metadata to file>.
This saving to file is necessary in order that Bridge can read and display the Lr edits because Bridge cannot read the Lr catalog.
Bridge saves to file automatically (there is no option of deselecting it) and Lr will read the metadata from Bridge when you import the image into Lr.
In case of an image that is already in Lr you have to select >Metadata >Read metadata from file (in Lr Library Module), or
by going >Photo >Read metadata from file (in Develop Module). Without this <Read metadata from file>, Lr will not display any changes made in Bridge after the import  into Lr. Since this <read metadata from file> would overwrite any different edits you may have done in Lr, it is best to do this before you do further edits in Lr.
The rating stars should transfer from Bridge to Lr and vice versa without problems.
For the color labels to transfer correctly you have to make the textual descriptions for the individual colors identical in Lr and in Bridge - down to upper/lower case, commas, hyphens, underscores, etc.
    Having said this:
I would recommend that you do not use Bridge for culling your images. You can do the culling just as easy in Lr. When you manage photos in Bridge and in Lr, you will always have the problem of synchronizing the metadata. This can be done but it needs a meticulous workflow that is adhered to strictly.
There is nothing in Bridge that Lr cannot do *). Make your life easier and choose Lr as your only image management and editing tool, except for CS6 itself (I mean Photoshop itself, not the ACR ).
*) Well there is one thing: Since Lr is not a browser-based program it does not automatically "see" what is on a hard drive. Photos need to be imported in order that Lr will "see" them.
Bridge is browser-based. Whatever photo is on a hard drive - irrespective of which program put it there - it will be "seen" by Bridge.
So Bridge is a valuable tool if a photo is not displayed in Lr and you want to check if it is in a particular folder.

  • Why is My MetaData Window of Bridge CS6 Displaying Incorrect File info?

The File Properties tab in the MetaData Window of Bridge CS6 is saying that my file is 72 ppi but when I open my file in PS it is actually 300 ppi 15x10 inches. See screen grab below. I understand that 72 ppi at 125" x 41.7" is the same as a 300 ppi file that is 30" x 10" or 9000 x 3000 pixels dimensions. But why is bridge making this conversion and displaying the file resolution as being 72 ppi when the file is 300 ppi? Is there a preference setting somewhere that I need to change?
When I look at these same files from another networked machine using Bridge CS6 the Metadata window is showing the files as being 300 ppi? Is there a setting inside Bridge somewhere that is making it show all files in the Metadata window as being based upon a 72 ppi resolution?

  • Possible Bug: Excessive writing to TEMP directory for any PDF metadata change

I am using the latest version of Adobe Bridge CC 6.1.0.116 x64 for Windows.
I use Adobe Bridge to manage large archives of scanned PDF's composed of full page JPG's.
Whenever I attempt to change metadata on these PDF's, Bridge performs heavy writing to the TEMP directory. Even when using an SSD, changing any metadata is very slow and the TEMP writes are enough to produce noticeable wear on the disk.
[I would have attached screenshots, but I get a "That image type is forbidden" error in these forums whenever I attempt to upload screenshots (either JPG or PNG; and they are less than 900px on longest edge).]
    Resource Manager:
    IMAGE: Bridge.exe
    FILE:...\Temp\A9R12b8-1315f76
    WRITE: 349,175,808 B/sec
The Task Manager also shows 356MB/sec writes for over fifteen seconds for each metadata change, with brief pauses between files.
This amount of data written amounts to about 20GB each minute!
(Note that the files I was modifying in this test averaged only about 100MB each.)
Bridge did not always do this. I remember earlier versions performed metadata changes swiftly without these excessive write issues. I do not remember in which version this problem began, however.
Resaving the files in question does not solve the problem. I have also tried exporting as Postscript and re-Distilling, and even exporting JPG's and recreating the PDF from scratch.
This problem seems to affect any PDF that is a collection of full-page JPG's. The PDF's that I have made from TIFF's or non-rendered text do not cause this issue. On non-JPG based PDF's metadata changes are fast and do not cause noticeable writes to the TEMP directory.

Thanks a lot Rob. That works.

  • Is there a way to do a global font change in iWeb '09?

    Hi,
I inherited a web site, created in iWeb '09. I've got the site files on my Mac ... when I start iWeb,
and select a page to edit, it complains:
The following errors occurred while trying to open this page:
    Missing Font TrajanPro-Regular
    Missing Font TrajanPro-Bold
    Missing Font HelveticaNeue-Roman
Many (most or all) pages in the web site need these three fonts.
Thru googling, I know that those three fonts are proprietary fonts that I could purchase.
However, it seems silly to buy and install a font when the web server and end-user's
browser won't have it (and will therefore get substituted at their end).
Therefore, I think that my best choice is to change all uses of those fonts in the web site to
be uses of some "standard web fonts".
So, how do I do a global font change or substitution in iWeb '09? It seems like an awfully
obvious thing to want to do. (Finding each instance of use and manually selecting the text
and doing a font change is simply not feasible.)
(E.g.: Change "HelveticeNeue-Roman" to "Helvetica Regular")
    thanks,
    Stan

    Hi there,

I've added the READ_XMP_METADATA capablitiy, and I've seen the DataType.XMP has been requested. but I'm not sure how to display the metadata on the Adobe bridge metadata panel. since the metadata is embeded in the file, when i browse the file in local drive, the metadata shows fine, but when it's on our remote server, some how bridge doesn't extract the info and display it. I can see the metadata when I browse the remote file in windows explorer adobe drive. and we do download the file to local to a temp copy, browse the temp copy in bridge also showing the metadata, The only thing not working is browsing the remote file in bridge via adobe drive connector.
Please advise what should be done, in the programmer's guide, it says for each item, request that the server return the XMP data for that asset. How should I do that? If the XMP is embeded in the file, why would I need to request for it, would it be automatically extracted from the file?

  • Is it possible to do a GLOBAL color change for both text and graphics in ACrobat XI?

I used to do this using the Pitstop Pro plugin but now Pitstop is almost $900 and this is the only thing that I would use it for, not worth the investment
I can change text color by selecting individual text items, but I want to change all of the red text into white text
I also need to change all of the red graphics into white graphics and I can't figure out how to do that either
I have a trial version of XI on a Mac and will buy it if it can do what I am trying to do, i.e. global color changes to both text and graphics
    thanks!!

I have version 6, but it is way out of date, doesn't work on my current system, I downloaded a trial version of the new one, version 12 I think, now I have to decide if I can afford to buy it, it is not cheap!
oops, sorry, I didn't read your entire message, aargh!
I'll check with them if I can upgrade from this early version, thanks for the suggestion!

Any warnings when opening the file?
You might need to reset all warnings in preferences.
Apart from that itlooks like your color management settings are set to convert into profile. This is absolutely not advisable.

  • Import from Catalog- Why is metadata changing?

Whenever I run Import from Catalog (going from portable drive to desktop), the dialog box shows several photos that have been "modified," even though I haven't touched them since they were last imported to the desktop.  I'm guessing, the desktop install of LR is finding metadata changes in some files. In fact, some thumbnails even show the "metadata changed" badges even though I haven't touched them.
I'm using LR 3 Macintosh, and want to share catalogs between my laptop and desktop using Import from Catalog.  I consider my desktop the "master catalog" and mainly use the laptop for capture or editing when I'm traveling.  The laptop catalog and photos are stored on a portable drive.
Here's what I did to try to isolate the problem - all of this was executed on my desktop machine so the LR settings should be identical:
    1) Created a new catalog on the portable drive while attached to desktop.
    2) Restart LR with new portable drive catalog active.
    3) "Import to catalog" and import 10,000 photos to portable drive from the desktop catalog. This ran with no problems as expected.
    4)  Restart LR w/ original desktop catalog.
    5)  Run "Import from Catalog" to import form the portable drive. -- NOTE I hadn't touched ANY photos on portable since step 3.
    6)  Import from catalog show 0 "new" photos but about 10 "changed" photos.  Why??  It shouldn't show any.
    7)  Cancel step 6 and run Import from catalog again.  This time it shows 0 new and 0 changed. (that's what I'd expect).
    8) Cancel step 7 and run Import from Catalog again.  This time it shows 0 new and about 30 changed - But they're a different set than in step 6.
    9) Give up and post this question.  What is changing the metadata?
As background, I'm running most current versions of OS X and LR 3.  My library contains mostly DNG files with some jpg and some TIF and PSD.  The "modified" files that are showing up all seem to be DNG files.  The files in the library were shot with  Canon, G2, G10, 10D, 20D, 60D and 7D.   The "modified" files appear to be from the 20D, 60D and 7D (all files shot in last 6 months).  The library has some virtual copies and stacks, but this doesn't appear associated with the "modified" files.
    Thank you in advance.
    Marshall

    Ian;
Thank you for your response.  I suspect you may be correct, although I can't trace the problem to explain lens profiles as the issue either at this point.  Each time I try to "Import from Catalog" back and forth between two catalogs - both made from the same instance of LR, it shows a different set of photos with who's metadata is changed.  I make absolutely NO changes to any photos.  I just choose "Import form catalog," look at the list of photos it says are changed, select, 'cancel," and then select "Import form catalog" again.  Each time it gives me a different set of, and total amount of changed photos.  First its 9 photos, then 32 photos, then 447 photos, etc.
This has "BUG" written all over it.  If it's actually a feature, I wish someone could show me how to control it.
A lot of people complain about LR's ability to share catalogs between computers and keep multiple catalogs in sync.  If I could master "Import from Catalog," I'd feel I'd have a workable solution for managing multiple computers (with one photographer / editor).
Just my opinion on this one feature. Overall, I LOVE working with LR.
    Thanks again,
    Marshall
PS.  Thank you, Ian for the many tips and tutorials you've provided over the past years.  I've learned a lot from them.

Metadata edited in Bridge is not reflected in the Info Dialogue Box, but shows up in Photoshop.

    Dear Ramón,
You are right that not all metadata is shown in the Finder info but in my case the once added in IPTC core do show as expected for most file types (but not CR2 raw). As you now I convert my CR2 to DNG for a long time now I had to look up the original Raw file and create the data for description, location, keywords again. The data you can add and alter yourself in the IPTC Core field. I added a series of screenshots showing different info and to my surprise (another reason to keep to DNG…) the Raw file had very less info and the xmp shows it all in a rather long and obscure way. Yet PSD, DNG and File info in PS show the same.
Could not recreate the Bridge metadata workspace from the OP because mine (Bridge CC) does not have the description field as an option anymore for some obscure reason. Also checked this in my CS6 version with same result, making the metadata workspace unusable but that was it already for a long time.
Still leaves us with the problem the OP showed, having all info in most files, as in Finder info, but not in Bridge. So could the OP respond to the purge cache for selection option in post 4?
Here are (a bit to many, sorry) my screenshots showing different file info (in Dutch but you will manage with that) and metadata in Bridge:

Finder info for CR2 and XMP:

  • Iphone ignoring song metadata changes

Why are song metadata changes made in iTunes not respected by iPhone, for purchased (via iTunes) content ?
I have a large classical music collection, and I use composer surname as my primary sort method.  To do this, I blank the composer field for all non-classical music and ensure that for classical music, the composer name is listed by surname first - this means a lot of metadata changes.
This filing system works very nicely in ITunes on my computers and on my old iPods.
However, on the iPhone, my metadata changes are replaced by the original metadata for purchased content, so messing up my filing system.  This apparently is known and 'normal' apple behaviour.  And it is self-contradictory - for when i look at my device list of songs in iTunes on laptop, my metadata changes are listed as intact.  I'm not sure whether the iPhone is simply ignoring metadata changes or whether the original metadata is over-writing via iCloud.
My question is, why would anyone design the system to ignore a user's metadata changes when using the iPhone ?  In what way is this good ?  And why not have a simple toggle switch 'respect my metadata changes on device - on/off' ?  I can't believe I'm unique amongst Apple users in wanting to listen to classical music  on an iPhone?!
    many thanks Paul

Settings > Music > unselect "Group by Album Artist" seemed to work for me.

  • HFM-Metadata changes -impact on Database.

    Hello Experts & Gurus,
    1)  I want to understand the impact of changes in MetaData (Members of Dimensions like Scenario, Year, Period....) on the size of database in HFM.
    2) If Metadata changes can result in creating new tables or cubes, can we find out such new tables or cubes which were created and delete them to take back the Database to Normal Stage.
    Thanks in Advance....

    Hello Erich,
    Thanks for your reply.
We have did some changes to MetaData and uploaded into production. We had some serious issues with the performance of the Application.
We revoked the MetaData but still we have problems with Application.
What strange we have observed is size of Data, which has increased three folds than previous, I am of opinion that change in MetaData might of created new cubes or tables and increased the size.
Please correct me if I am wrong and let me know your opinion what might have increased the data base size..
    Thanks & Regards.
