Global Track / Transposition

I have a project in Logic Pro that I want to transpose, How can I tranpose all of my "keys" and not the drum tones using the global track function?
Thanks

It's easier to just use traditional method here, you assign drum channels to no transpose in instrument paramaters and transpose tonal regions.

  • What's with this Global Tracks: Chord Analysis/Transposition bug?????

    Hi.
In the midst of a fairly complex piece I allowed my mind to wander and thought i'd see what the Global Tracks Chords analysis would make of my piece.... Interesting.
It wasn't till later when trying to copy regions either vertically or horizontally that I discovered I had a MAJOR problem!!
At the suggestion of other threads I checked my Global Tracks Transposition track and sure enough it was a mass of squiggles - directly related to the chord analysis.
Apparently this is a bug, but I have been unable to find any ways to remedy the situation except to unravel the song back to that dreaded moment of idle curiosity!
If anyone has some ideas to help I'd be very grateful!!!!! Many thanks!

  • Is there a workaround for the missing global track chords?

Is there a workaround for the missing global track chords?  i.e. will Apple loops follow the chord progression in a track?

I found sort of a work around.  I still have Logic Pro 9.  It turns out that if you go into global tracks, analyze the chords then go back to logic pro x the chord progression is preserved.  So the information is preserved there just seems no way to create it in X.

  • Logic pro x. Global tracks chord

I work a great deel with Logic Pro 9 using Global Tracks Chords to manage chordshifting when i use loops. I Bought Logic Pro X, and I cant find this possibility
In Logic Pro X. Need help fast......

Yes Gr8Dayz, it is correct. No support for Chords. This is incredible because competitors, like Cubase, add this features at highest level to help composer.
Not all... I've found big problems with loops without chord track... yes, you can use "flex" but it's not a solution for a songwriter or for a composer that wants to give a "song structure" with chords (and found "ideas").
At the end to compose with Logic Pro X takes 3-4 time more than "old" Logic Pro.
It's incredible but yesterday I had to import a simple MP3 file (44.1 khz.) to make a recording. I could not believe what I saw ... Logic Pro X makes a mistake ... the beginning of the audio file was compromised ... there were silences/empty sound placed in the first 5 seconds .
I've been working on this thing one hours, I thought I had done something wrong. So I repeated the import procedure 10 times creating new projects at all frequencies available.
What had happened? Logic Pro X has a not defined bug that prevents (in this case) the correct import file.
How do I know this ?
    Easy.
I opened my beloved Pro Logic (the " old ") and the first time everything worked fine. Not only was it faster, but the file WAS PERFECT. Sound great.
Conclusion . I am going to leave the O Logic Pro X. If Apple programmers do not change things I AM OBLIGED TO SPEND € 600 TO BUY A PROGRAM THAT MAKES SERIOUS THINGS SERIOUSLY... II will not give you the name of the software, but you can easily imagine it.
I think we could change the name of Logic Pro X and, unfortunately, rename it with a different name : Amateur (il)Logic X...

  • Global Track Tempo Line

I've done a tremendous amount of rubato type editing in the Global Tracks Tempo Line. But some of the tunes are generally too slow. Is it possible to make the whole track faster while keeping the ratios of the gradual tempo changes? e.g. can I keep all my rits and accels while making the whole thing faster?
    Thanks

    Thanks for helping me.

  • Global Track - Chords (Only selected Midi and Audio Tracks)

I am looking to have only certain Audio/Midi tracks be trsposed when there is a change of chords in the Global Track section. For example, I am going C/Am/C. At the Am point, everthing (exclusing drums) gets transposed, even the Melody parts. Is there any way to select only the tracks that I want tranposed?
Or is there a better way of doing this. Appreciate the help.

    Hi Again
I tried it out today and on the Midi tracks I found the no hassle in ticking the non transpose button. Worked great.
On the audio loop tracks I could not find the no transpose option in the inspector. Appreciate your assistance.

  • Global track tempo curves stop working: advice?

    Hello everyone,
I working on a film score right now, and to get more life out of this cue I have drawn many slight tempo curves, as well as a couple large ritardando. For some reason or another, the global track tempo curves will randomly stop working, and thus I have to manually adjust the curve to get them working again.
Is there anyway to fix this problem? I can never seem to get back to the original when manually adjusting the curve. Is there a "refresh" mode for the global tempo tracks, similar to what is done for fade files? Is there an option to "print" these into solid tempo maps? I've searched the forums but thus far have come up empty handed.
Thanks in advance for your help!

I would recommend starting with a SMC reset, here are some instructions for doing one. Sometimes it takes 2-3 attempts to fix a problem so don't be afraid to repeat it.
    SMC RESET
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
    • Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    • Release the power button.
    • Attach the computers power cable.
    • Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    • Turn on the computer.
    • Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    • Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • First post - global track commands...???

    Hi all,
Great Forum...this is my first post...
I figured out how to change the tracks volume and thus create a fade at the end of a section... I repeated the process successfully on the other tracks... but is there a way to make one change and have it affect every track? Can you affect audio and instrument tracks using the same command?
I used global track component volume and then created dot points on the bar and lowered the last point (the last inch) creating a quick fade... am I missing a fade command somewhere that will simplify this process?
Thanks for the help.. love the forum

    hi
I'm not sure if i understand your question fully... are you asking if you can copy automation to different tracks?
The answer is yes! You need to be in automation mode for this....(i really recommend reading Chapter 7, page 313 of the reference manual).
anyway, on the track with the volume automated fade... hold shift and select all the nodes you want to copy. Now press apple - C to copy. Go to the track you wanna copy to and press apple - V.
Ok. that presumes you're using automation? Now Hyperdraw works in a different way - that also automates values such as volume, pan etc but is region based not track based...
Another tip, if you want to fade the whole song then just automate the volume fade on the master OUT 1-2 track.
Also, if you need to fade just a particular audio region you can use the fade tool found in the toolbox.
    Hope that helps

  • Can we do mutiple transpose layers in Global Tracks?

I have a project that contains loops which have been made to follow the chord progression of the main track by using the Global transpose track (the Global Chords function has been taken from us in X).  But now I find that I have to raise the key of the entire piece a full step.  Is there a way to add another Global Transpose layer to raise everything including the loops being that the are already using the transpose function?
    Thanks,
    Lee

    Indeed...
Your work method is the way i used to do it initially but then found the same sort of problem you have come across....
Unfortunately any of the other global 'tuning' methods... only work for SIs and not Audio tracks.... so they are not much use.
Thank you.  I appreciate your help.
You are welcome! Sorry i couldn't help more....
    Cheers..

  • New time sig in Global tracks affects all later time sigs

We've been here before, but I seem to remember someone (Rohan..?) saying that entering the time sig in the Score editor was a way round this problem. However I've just been trying that method and it's no better. Some later time sigs still disappear. Any thoughts?
Edit: Found Rohan's answer to an earlier post of mine here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1923331&#1923331 but neither the Score Editor method or the Transport Bar method is working now. Agh..

    Hi Irv,
OK, you've run into a big, big, big bug. And sorry to hear it too, for I know the frustration of this bug all too well.
There's something about your song that's corrupted. I've reported this problem repeatedly and AFAIK there has been no fix for it.
Workarounds: aside from the usual technique of trashing your prefs and re-establishing them, there are several workarounds which I've discovered but none of them are really very good, except for one, which is total pain in the @ss. Here's the lowdown:
    1) Remove any double bar lines or multiple rests that you may have added to your score. Then, re-organize memory and empty the trash (do these latter procedures twice in a row). Save your song, close it, re-open it. Try adding more time sigs and see if the aforementioned operations had any positive effect.
    2) Start with a fresh autoload song, and also have your current song open as well. Go to the Global Time Sig track and copy the time sigs (make sure cycle is off). In the fresh autoload, set the SPL to bar 1 and paste those sigs into the autoload's Global Time Sig track. Once again, remove any double bars and multiple rests that may be in your original song. Now copy and paste-at-original-position all of your tracks into the autoload. It's almost guaranteed that this will cure the problem, provided that (sigh) the pasting of the time sigs is actually successful. By this I mean that Logic will not always paste the time sigs correctly. You may have to try multiple times for Logic to paste the time sigs in the right place. Like I said, total pain in the @ss.
(Lemme know if you need details on how to select the time sigs in the Global Time Sig track.)
(the "old") Quad, 6G RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   On second thought, let's not go to Camelot. It's a silly place.

  • Global input transposition

my keyboard controller has inaccessible octave +/- buttons. is there any way of setting up a key command, maybe via something in the environment, which will let me change octaves from the computer keyboard instead of my controller?

It's easier to just use traditional method here, you assign drum channels to no transpose in instrument paramaters and transpose tonal regions.

  • I placed a track of mine on the Global Chord track and when I remove the chords, Logic changes the pitch of all the notes in my project. How can I fix this?

I dragged and dropped an organ part onto the Chord Global Track in hopes of reading the chord symbols later. However, I continued recording and now that I want to replace a portion of that original track, I can't record over it because Logic keeps transposing every note I play based on the chords in the Global Track. Deleting these chords from the global track ruins every other track I've recorded since then. What can I do to get control back? Thanks so much.
I'm also seeing big translucent white lines all over the track I imported- those might be sustain pedal cues but I think they have to do with each new chord from the Global track...

9 hours is a lot of footage for a single Event. That is probably the hangup. Is there a way you could logically divide the event into multiple events? For example, if Martin Scorcese was filming the Woodstock concert, he could divide into Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
IMovie can use multiple events in a single project, and an event can be used in multiple projects.

  • Is it possible to have track and region parameters boxes under the inspector hidden by default when creating a new track?

I often need to access the effects section and/or select a different midi instrument and have to manual minimize these boxes. It would be nice if I could have these hidden by default as I'm accessing the portions covered by the track and region parameter boxes more frequently than I'm accessing the boxes themselves.
    Thanks!

Before answering your question, you have to make sure you understand the difference between the different track types in GarageBand.
Tracks, you record your music on
There are three types of those Tracks.
MIDI Tracks (aka Software Instrument Tracks)
Audio Tracks (aka Real Instrument Tracks)
Drummer Track (only one per Project)
    Global Tracks
These are the Tracks that can be shown/hidden at the top of the Tracks Area for specific purposes.
    Arrangement Track
    Movie Track
    Transposition Track
    Tempo Track
    Master Track
This Track can also be shown/hidden in the Tracks Area. Please note, you cannot delete that Track, only hide it, similar to the Global Tracks
Regarding the Tracks you record your music on,  you can delete any of those. It doesn't matter if you created them or there are part of a Template (maybe that  is what you refer to as the default track). Once you delete the last Track, the "New Track Window" will pop up to add a new track.
I will explain all that in much more detail in my manual "GarageBand X - How it Works".

  • Chords / Transpositions no Longer working

Really frustrated with this today. I save all my logic Pro 9 projects to an external hard drive. Booted up a few projects today, and all the chords / transpositions in the global track settings are no longer changing the chords. I'm working on a few demos and worktapes and use the chords to change the bass part, but now the bass part just plays in whatever key the loop is in and won't transpose. What gives? This happened to 4 of my tunes today, so I feel like it's some kind of global setting or something, though I'm not entirely sure.

I should mention too, in the inspector, where I usually can highlight a look and move transposition up and down semi-tones, all I see is a " - "
Did I do something where these are no longer being treated as apple loops?

  • Why am I unable to delete the default track (which seems to act as the master, right?) after making a rough mix?  Is it possible to delete the default track after having rendered a mix?

Why am I unable to delete the default track (which seems to act as the master, right?) after making a rough mix?  Is it possible to delete the default track after having rendered a mix?  I did a rough mix and now cannot change the song as the tracks that were a part of the rough mix seem to remain in the song even though I mute the tracks for a new mix.  For instance, I played and recorded a different bass line.  Muted the original, but when trying to create the new mix I can hear the original bass line even though I have muted that track.  It seems to remain in the previous master (default) track.  Please send help.  Thank you.
