Global tuning with CSM3.1?

With CSM 3.0 I was able to administer global tuning by logging into CSM, choosing Management Center, Configuration, Global and I could begin.
In 3.1 where Management Center used to be I now have Auto Update Server. Of course Auto Update Server doesn't have any of my devices listed in it and even if it did, I see no way to tune or add filters.
If this has been pulled from the online piece, then my only choice is the desktop component. From the desktop, I have a good idea how to make changes to an individual device and I understand how to copy these changes to other devices, but I do not see a way to make global changes.
Can someone please give me any information about this? Is there a new PDF for 3.1?

I have answered all of my own questions.
The CSM web gui no longer exists as a management tool. All tuning is done on the desktop client.

Global Creation with Input args

I create a Global Creation activity with a screenflow task. The screenflow has both a integer input argument (call it sfIntArg) and a output argument (of BPM object).
When I right-click on the Global creation activity and go to argument mapping, I have trouble mapping the screenflow input argument. I am not sure what to specify in the "Value" field to map to sfIntArg.
1. when I specify nothing to map to sfIntArg (sfIntArg = empty/null), then I get the message "express is expected".
2. when I do not specify the argument mapping, I get "All arguments must be satisfied"
3. when I choose a instance variable of the process, I get "xxx is not a static member of project.process.instance"
I want to invoke the Global Creation with WAPI and pass the value for sfIntArg to the Global Creation.

It's odd that you see no errors in your project.
1. Make sure that you just have one project open in your Project Navigator tab.
2. In the Project Navigator tab, double click the name of the process. Look at the "Outline" tab directly below the Project Navigator tab (click Window -> Reset Perspective if you don't see the Outline tab). Expand Methods and double click each of the methods to find the offending logic with the "var1" syntax that is causing your problem. Do this for each of your processes.

11g BPM Global Activity with instance access equivalent ??

Hi,
I want to be able to update an instance variable from a workspace view much as I could with a 10g Global Activity with Instance access.
As always I guess there are a number of solutions (even if they dont match the scenario exactly) but which is the best approach ?

I dont quite understand your question but if your variable is a reference to an object then you can certainly have a method to alter the object that the reference is pointing to and/or the reference itself..
otherwise your 'function' will have to return the same type as the variable itself in order to do the assignment as you demonstrated, regardless of wether it's C, C# or Java, AFAIK, WIRNM

Oracle ODBC Failed to enlist global transaction with DTC

Hi Everyone,
I have installed a COM+ application on a Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 machine. Which is using Oracle Client version 11.1.7.0 (32 bit).
Application is using 11.1.7.0 (x64) Database running on another server with same OS. When I run some functionality in the application, I am getting a message saying
"The Error [Oracle][ODBC]Failed to enlist global transaction with DTC".
This error happened in a production environment. It is working on my test machine under same situation. The application is certified on above Oracle version.
Please let me know what can be cause of the problem.

what aartjan is saying is the way for you. but you can develop an utility which will actually help you create global variables. To get the details on this just have a look at VI Scripting section on LAVA forum.
But i would like you to suggest few things
1. If your programs have so many global variables (Thats why u want utility) then you should take out some time to read about LabVIEW design patterns. I think if programmer follows these practicess he dont need a single global variable.
2. Their are some other ways to achieve similar functionality as of global variables (Uninitialized Shift Registers, Single Element Qs and so on) but they are much faster than global variables.

I get 'Failed to enlist global transaction with DTC'

has anybody seen the message '[ODBC][Oracle]Failed to enlist global transaction with DTC' when using Oracle Service for MTS?
Server : Oracle 8.1.7.4 on Solaris 2.8
Client : - 8.1.7.4 Windows 2000 SP4
- ODBC : Oracle ODBC Driver 8.1.7.10
Application : COM+ with new transaction
i get the message sometimes, but not always, when conneting to oracle via odbc
any comments would be appreciated, thanks.

We used to get the same error with VB-6, MTS and Oracle 8.1.6. Although our environment was Win NT, our solution may work for you. (We got this solution via Metalink from a programmer in England.)
1) We stopped using Oracle Services for MTS and switched to Oracle's XA functionality. To activate XA functionality, please search the Microsoft web-site. (I don't have the specific URL at hand.)
2) You can use either the Microsoft ODBC driver or Oracle's, or OLEDB, depending on what your COM+ components are doing. Because 2 of our Packages returned REF_CURSORs to COM+, we had to use OLEDB. The Microsoft web site has information about this.
3) This solution stopped the "unable to enlist" errors and seemed to run faster than using Oracle Services for MTS.

How to retrieve # on-line procs in a non-global zone with resource pool

Is there any way to retrieve the #of on line processors of the machine running in a non global zone with resource pool ?
sysconf does not return this value. In fact this is an excerpt of the man:
"If the caller is in a non-global zone and the pools facility is active, sysconf(_SC_NPROCESSORS_CONF) and sysconf_SC_NPROCESSORS_ONLN) return the number of processors in the processor set of the pool to which the zone is bound."

So, from within a local zone that's in a pool (i.e. in a pool with 8 CPUs) , you want to query how many CPUs really exist in the global zone (i.e. the global zone may actually have 16 CPUs)? I don't think that's possible: in fact for security reasons it's probably intentionally disabled.
A quick workaround would be a script/cron-job in the global zone that writes a small file in the filesystem of the local zone... then from within that zone you could read the CPU count.
I'm interested though: what are you trying to set up?

Oracle 10 g non-global zones with asynchronous I/O

Hi,
I note that using direct I/O (by setting the forcedirectio while
mounting the database file systems) and bypassing the file system
cache may improve database performance significantly, but this should
be done only for file systems in which database files and redo log
files exist. If direct I/O is used and there is not enough database
buffer cache, it may even decrease the performance by moving the
problem from double buffering to a lack of database buffer cache. So,
this performance tuning must be planned carefully, and the database
buffer cache should be sized properly. The direct I/O option should
not be used for other file systems used by other applications because
they still need the UFS buffer cache.
Now, I have Oracle database installed inside a non-global zone and I
see a lot of Asynchronous I/O wait warnings in the Oracle Alert log
file. Storage mount points with UFS filesystem contain the Oracle
datafiles and redo log files. In addition, two Oracle datafiles of 10
GB each reside on the local disks. The Oracle init.ora parameter to
set asynchronous I/O for Oracle database files is
FILESYSTEMIO_OPTIONS= SETALL.
Although the above parameter was set during the database installation,
the aiowait warnings don't seem to disappear.
Can I use the "forcedirectio" option at the Operating System /etc/
vfstab file for Oracle datafiles and redo log files?
Or, should I just move the Oracle database files residing on the local
disks to the external storage? Will this take care of aiowait warnings
and if yes, how? The storage is a DAS.

I presume you compiled php on the Sun server, was this done using gcc or the Sun One C compiler.
If the latter then you can also use the flag: --enable-nonportable-atomics when you run configure

I have build an Labview project with FPGA target . I have configured an FPGA VI and an host Vi to acquire data and logged the data to a file and stored the latest data in a global variable simultanously. I have configured one more VI in the same project to access the global variable. I have build a dll to access both the VI as functions in LabWindows/CVI code. My task in CVI is to update configured GUI with latest data periodically and run the host VI continously for a long time and log the data to a file. GUI should update for every one second with latest data for this I am using the second VI in which I am accessing the global varibale in which the latest data has been stored in host VI.

Global Messages with h:messages tag.

hi,according to the documentation of jsf1.1, global messages are those messages that are not associated with any client identifier, which means, messages that are not associated with any UIComponent. At the mean while, the [b]for attribute is mandatory for the h:message tag. so it means that global messages are not specified by the JSF page programmers. so how are these message produced? and what are they used for?

For example if you are using backing bean and there is error you want to show globally, without showing for any particular field then you can have something like this in backing bean

Flex Bug? s|global and mx|global conflict with eachother!

I'm trying to set a global font in my application. I've defined some CSS as follows:

So by rights all the Spark components receive the Dax font that has embedAsCFF set to true, and MX with embedAsCFF set to false. However all the Spark components, including those in the main application (Spark) are returning errors as follows:
warning: incompatible embedded font 'DaxNoCFF' specified for spark.components::Label (Label6) . This component requires that the embedded font be declared with embedAsCff=true.
This warning makes no sense since I've specified s|global to use Dax which has embedAsCFF set to true. The MX components are using the Dax font as expected but Spark is defaulting to Times New Roman.
Does anyone know why this is happening? Thanks in advance.

Bit surprised no one from Adobe has responded...
The fix I found is to enable "Use Flash Text Engine in MX components" in the Flex Compiler and only specify "s|global" as this appears to apply to MX components too. Enabling this option allows both Spark and MX components to use the embedded font.

Query tuning with partition

Hi to all,
I am an issue with a tuning of a query where I have a join among a lot of table with the same structure as described below:
Table A
VARCHAR2(20) : id_customer
VARCHAR2(20): external_id
date : start_custromer
date : end_customer.
The end customer is settled when the record is closed. Therefore this field may assume two possible value: null or with the closing date.
The table is partiotioned with the end date.
Into the query I have a filter because I search the record open at for exemple the last year. Then also when I create an index in the end_customer I'm not able to use the corresponding index because the optimezer choises to select all partitions.
How can I resolve this problem?

Correct. In fact I suppose that the problem is when I search the null values. The filter of my query is:
table.start_customer <= sysdate and nvl(table.end_customer), sysdate+1) > sysdate
I read the threads suggested by you, and I try to create a bitmap index. But Oracle does not accept it because it force me to create a bitmap index only in a local partition of the table....
I try also to set an hint but the database does not choise this path, probably because there is a setting or something like that.

Performance tuning with HTTP compression

We currently are using Oracle 11g and IE8. The 11g UI has been pretty slow and when i looked up for perfomance tuning one of the methods was http compression as stated in the link below -

The portion of the above information of the has been actually except from Oracle Support ID (1312299.1).
Now I have made the changes as suggested but am wondering how can i test it to make sure the changes have surely improved the performance or not. It doesnt talk of any testing or verification methods.

i mean by how much does the volume come down when the records are moved from F to E tables.
also is the time spend on compression of the Cube or on the aggregates or on the deletion of records in the F table..?
what is the ratio of aggregate volume to the cube volume...?
You might want to set an trace on the compression session to get answers on where it is spending most of its time
Compression is equivalent to executing a query on the F table and summarising the results with the request ID column , appending the results to E table and deleting the compressed request from F table.

We are a Global group, with divisions using a single instance of Eloqua

Any advice on this would be great.
We are a Gloabl group, with a number of different divisions, offering different I.T services and solutions. Each has its own marketing roadmap to which a single database will be used to target and segment via marketing activity.
Just after some advice and best practice I suppose, hopefully there is someone out there who has tackled a similar problem ...
i) What is the best way to target these divisions within a single database, without causing too much of a headache.
ii) As we have a single instance of ELQ, in terms of differentiating the divisions, is the easy approach to simply set up different email groups for camapigns? I.E, Different Headers, footers and preference centres etc... ???
Haven't started to consider the ELQ side of things as yet, but was wondering if anyone has tackled this recently, before I deep dive in, and if they have any advice?

I agree with all of the above! I will just add a couple of additional suggestions:
I would really put some effort in your preference center. Make sure you clearly define your opt-in/opt out strategy and the priority of messages to avoid redundancy and unnecessary overlaps. This may require collaboration with other teams upfront but can save you time and headaches in the long run.
Along with this, your content strategy can benefit from a regular review at a global level to ensure you are still relevant at the division level (which I would assume you already do )
If you have customers who are likely to be member of multiple divisions, I would also make sure to run some filters or have a program that checks your set of rules in order to manage email frequency.
Like Marian suggested, adherence and reinforcement of a solid naming convention for everything will be key.
