Global vs interface command on switch

Hello,
If I have a command globally which applies on all switch ports but then I want to configure one port with a different command not apply the global command on the switch. When i configure that port will it take effect the new command configure for that port and disregard the global command that was apply on all ports or the global command still take effect and interface command not take effect?

Some of the most common commands that are used on a per-interface level (which overrides the global commands) are:
1. STP;
2. UDLD;
3. PoE control;
4. Auto Switch Port macro (ASP)

Well without testing and not knowing more details about what command you wish to try - I think that more specific (in this case interface command) will take precedence above global one...
Plese do some testing - in this particular case it's about 5min job...

About command"tag-switching advertise-tags"

Does the command "tag-switching advertise-tags" must be used in the mpls environment? If I do not use it, whether the PE or P router can not work normally?

Well the tag-switching advertise tags is used only to apply the tags to an IP Prefix selectively & not for the Global IP Table..
As soon as u enable MPLS on an interface it floods the MPLS LFIB with the local labels & with the labelled prefix only with the allowed Prefx range..
The advertised -tag is normally associated with the access-list..
As an example I can use advertise tags associating with the only the loopback which shall be the next-hop for PE/P..

VLAN Interface Command

Ok, I thought I had the reason for the VLAN interface command down. I thought it was either used for switch management or routing between VLANS? However, now I realized that some communication wont work with out this command which doesnt make sense. If I have a VLAN, then the switch will only switch packets to ports on the same VLAN. The only way, communication would work between VLANS is if I either enabled routing between VLANs with the VLAN Interface command, connected the switch to another multi-layer switch that did do routing between VLANS, or connected the switch to a router which routed between the VLANs.
However, I just got this new 3550 switch in, configured the correct ports with the assigned VLANs, and the only way my cisco ip phone would work is if the VLAN Interface for my voice-ip VLAN was configured. The 3550 is connected to a 4507. Now, can someone tell my why this is? You shouldnt have to configure the VLAN Interface, right?(unless I wanted to route between VLANs, which could be done by the 4507)

Sounds to me like you either dont have the dot1q trunk interface between your 4506 and 3550 working properly, or your 3550 is running the enhanced image which allows routing.
It would be nice to see your config on both the 3550 and the 4500 to determine the reason. Just a stab at how it should be configured is that on your 4506, you have it running VTP server or transparent with the defined Data and Voice Vlan's. You have a port configured for trunking (which connects to the 3550). On your 3550, you have configured it as a vtp client or transparent and have verified that it has received (or if transparent VTP you have configured) the appropriate VLAN's. You than specified "interface VLAN #" or whatever number for switch management and configured the port that connects to the 4500 as a trunk. Your port connected to the port has the auxillary or voice vlan configured. If this is how your equipment is configured and it still does not work, than look for the line "ip routing" in your 3550 and negate it with "no ip routing".
If still no worky worky, post your config.

I can send multiline interface commands but not data commands

hi
i am using a gpib controller.I cannot seem to find a way to switch between multiline commads and data commands.the key is the ATN bit as to send a DAB command the atn bit must be low. I cannot make the controller distinguish when a command is a adta command and not a multiline command,

i am using the measurement computing gpib controller cb7210.2 which is nearly ni compatabile.i am interfacing it with a microcontroller connected to the pc.Then i am trying to use a monitor program that is embedded in the microcontroller to perform remote access of instruments.i am using assembly. i have managed to communicate with the instrument.now the problem is that i cannot make the distinction between data commands and interface commands.for eg if i send 3Fh and atn happens to be 1 this is interpreted as UNL if atn is 0 then it is interpreted as data command.i need to be able to have control of the atn bit so that i can send either at will. so to problem is how to control the atn bit.

Need a command line switch to close Acrobat Catalog Index batch file

I am looking for help with a command line switch. I am VERY new to scheduling tasks and writing scripts.
Our office created an Acrobat Catalog Index that needs to be updated on a regular basis. I created a .bpdx file as follows:
\\dept\SPDintelshare\Analysis\2nd Hand Transaction Logs\Secondhand Transaction Logs.pdx /rebuild
This runs via Microsoft Task Scheduler from a .bat file as follows:
"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe" "C:\Documents and Settings\cutrone0999\Desktop\PawnIndex.bpdx"
The batch runs just like it is supposed to, but it won't close when it is finished re-building. I have tried using EXIT at the end of the .bat file and that doesn't work. I also tried a force close for acrobat.exe and that doesn't work either. The problem is that if I log off my computer the batch will run as scheduled and when I log back on in the morning the scheduled task shows 'running' and I have to end it. Then I have to re-start my computer or I can't open any Adobe documents.
If I leave my computer logged on, the batch runs as scheduled and when I log back on in the morning I have to close the dialog boxes showing the index re-ran and then close Adobe.
I would appreciate any suggestions. I have googled this every way I can think of and I'm not finding any results that are helpful. Thank you in advance!

Acrobat can be opened by a Windows batch process, but a Windows batch process can not trigger a batch process/Action within Acrobat. It is possible with MacIntosh's Apple Script to open a PDF and run Acrobat JavaScript but not interact with Acrobat's Batch Processing or Acrobat's Actions. Note that opening a BPDX file is different than opening an Acrobat Seq file.
The catalog/index scheduled update is not part of Acrobat "Batch Process" or "Action". The running of rebuilding of the catalog/index is controlled by the values within the BPDX file. So if one opens the BPDX file with Acrobat and a catalog/index is scheduled to be rebuilt or past the scheduled date and time, then the catalog/index build is submitted for precessing by Acrobat..
Now the issue is how to close Acrobat after this processes has completed. Since Acrobat does not communicate with the Windows OS system, the Widows scheduled process has no way to know when this task has completed. Even though one can use JavaScript to test the status of a submitted Catalog/Index build/rebuild there is no communication of the submitted catalog job unless quired by Acrobat JavaScript. If you check the Acrobat JS API Reference you will see there are 2 possible results for a catalog/index rebuild, a completed rebuild and a termination with errors. One of these should require additional action.
Further, a recent update to Acrobat JavaScript has added restrictions to using JavaScript to "closeDoc" method which may need to be addressed.
It is also possible to open an FDF file and add/run JavaScirpts within a PDF, and again this is different than running a "Batch Process"/"Action" in Acrobat.

Preview in Browser - Browser command line switches

Need to add a command line switch to the browser for the "Preview in browser" feature. DW's "Add Browser" and "Edit Browser" will not accept command line switch. Have created a Windows shortcut with the necessary command line switch, but DW will not allow a shortcut as a path to the browser either.
Anybody solved this yet?
p.s. Google's Chrome does not allow local session cookies (document.cookie ). A command-line switch of "-enable-file-cookies" will do the trick, though.

I haven't tried this, but try adding the switch directly to the Preferences. The Preview in Browser settings are stored here:

Can i print a file using thunderbird with command line switch

Trying to automate printing task. I have a folder with 1000's and 1000's of eml files that need to be printed using thunderbird.
I am able to get the command line switch to open the file in thunderbird.
But what i really want is to print these files directly using thunderbird without opening the file in GUI.

I have a win 7 and a win 8.1 computer. I have a file which contains both landscape and portrait pages. The file prints correctly with the mixed orientation from the win 7 pc, but will only print with either landscape or portrait on the win 8.1 pc.
I am using Adobe reader XI on the win 7 pc and adobe touch on the win 8.1 pc

Passive interface command on RIP

Hi all,
This command below
passive-interface command give additional information to RIP, that it can't send updates via this particular interface ---
As per my understanding is this if we have 2 routers that are directly connected with each other and we enable this command on the interface of one of
routers then that router will not send any RIP updates to other router right?
secondly if these 2 routers are point to point connection we can ping directly conencted interfaces IP of routers because they are directly connected even though there is no routing protocol running between these two right?
3rd thing when i run sh ip protocols on one of router it shows
Routing Protocol is "rip"
Sending updates every 30 seconds, next due in 1 seconds
Invalid after 180 seconds, hold down 180, flushed after 240
Outgoing update filter list for all interfaces is not set
Incoming update filter list for all interfaces is not set
Redistributing: rip
Default version control: send version 2, receive version 2

here last update time keeps on incrementing but sh ip route does not show now that rip is running.
so this line means

that after 240 secs router will flush the rip routes fron the routing table right?
but sh ip protocol will always show rip as routing protocol as we have config the rip and last update time will keep on incrementing right?

To control the set of interfaces with which you want to exchange routing updates, you can disable the sending of routing updates on specified interfaces by configuring the
passive-interface

Correct, you do not need a routing protocol. The interfaces are directly connected. Now, if for example you add a loopback address to each router, you need a routing protocol or static router to reach the opposite router's loopback address.
The reason the interfaces/IPs do not show up in the RIP routing table is because they are directly connected and directly connected routes have a lower admin distance (1) which is preferred over rip which is 120.

How does one specify command line switches for a Helper Application in Mozilla Firefox?

Greetings,
I would like to have a certain batch file to be executed when downloading torrent files unfortunately the Select Helper Application dialog does not allow to add command line switches. I did find a workaround to achieve this. In the Select Helper Application dialog browse to the folder which contains the batch file, type the file name including the file extension of the batch file and click on Open.
Though, this is not the way I would like to execute the batch file. I need to pass some additional command line switches to the command interpreter but I cannot seem to find a way how. Any suggestions or clarifications would be much appreciated.

Does Adobe Acrobat 7.0 have command line switches?

Currently I use Create PDF from Multiple Documents to cobble together a PDF I need to make every once in a while. Are there command line switches to insert pages? Something like:
acrobat -insert mydoc.pdf put_in_this_doc.pdf
I didn't see any mention in the help but thought maybe I was overlooking it.

No, there are no command lines to do anything like this. Acrobat
supports OLE automation for programmers.

The switch /control indicates that you can take the control of the session which you have taken. Generally when we take remote desktop session we will already get the control of that session but in some case where some administrator will not give full access
or control of remote session to the user. At that if they know this option they can use to control that remote session.
