Globally Changing all Instances of a CSS Style to Another

I'm working with RH6 (HTML). I'm curious if there is a
method/tool that will allow me to take all instances of a certain
CSS style and replace it with another (e.g., in the same manner
that you can using FrameMaker and Paragraph/Character Styles). I'd
like to be able to do it project-wide, but if it has to be done on
a topic-by-topic basis, that would be OK... I'm just trying to
avoid the need to locate each instance of the style and manually
change it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey guys... thanks for the feedback. For starters, I
have created an external CSS (using RH)... So, I'm good
there. Anyway, my scenario is similar to what Peter pointed out: I
used a bad naming convention for a style, and applied it to a bunch
of content pages, and later came up with a better naming convention
(and a better set up for the style -- I know, I know... poor
planning on my part). I began applying the new style in future
documents, and I'd like to apply the style to all applicable
instances in the existing pages. So, I was wondering if a
tool/utility existed that would allow me to do so (since one does
exist in FrameMaker).
I could just let it go, but we intend to hire a new writer in
the near future, and I don't want that person to have to deal with
my inconsistency (not to mention, it would make things a little
easier when outputting to Word, in that I'll have fewer styles to
manage).
The concept of performing a search/replace for all instances
of the offending style name in the HTML files is a good one, and I
could try that (why are the simple solutions always the hardest
ones to realize?) Anyway, I'm assuming that all I would need to do
is perform a search for "<span class=Old_Style_Name>", and
change them all to "<span class=New_Style_Name>", correct?
And you recommend, "FAR" to do that?
Again thanks for the recommendations!

    Greetings,
    I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
    At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
    The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
    I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
    You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

    Good reason to use a real editor.
    You're right, that does sound odd.  Was the file created in Geany, or just opened that way?
    ... wait, here's what's going on.  Geany opened a file with Unix line endings.  It displayed correctly because Geany isn't stupid like Notepad, but Geany didn't convert the line endings when you closed the file because you didn't tell it to.  But Vim modelines take effect as if you had typed them in after opening the file.  So Vim detected that the file had Unix line endings, and opened it with fileformat=unix.  Then the modeline set fileformat=dos.  When you hit :w, Vim saved it with DOS line endings.
    The moral of the story?  Don't use modelines, and if you do, don't use them to set the file format.  (Vim detects that automatically.)

    Address Book has no global find/replace. Bob Grove suggested one possible workaround; however, a grep-capable text editor (eg, TextWrangler) is better than TextEdit if complex strings are involved.
    An alternative is Bento (which is designed specifically to interact with the AB database), but it's not free.

  • One layer style changing all the other layer styles? Turn this off?

    I'm sure there is an easy answer to this but I cannot seem to find it. When I am applying a style to one layer in CS2, and lets say I give it a drop shadow that is different (say it's at 110degrees rather than 90degrees) compared with the other drop shadows in my other layers, the curent layer style will change all the other layer styles across the board. I've looked all over for some setting to change so each individual layer keeps its own style but I can't seem to find this. I want each layer to have its own style attribute and not change the rest, how do I correct this?
    Thanks for your help!

    You need to uncheck the global light option in the layer styles dialog.

  • How can I change the settings of all instances of a particular effect?

    I've applied the same color correction effect to a lot of clips in the timeline. Now I want to fine tune the color correction (same setting for all clips still). How can I change the setting of all instances of the color correction effect without going into each clip manually?

    I was first hoping for File> New > Adjustment layer, but it's always greyed out. I thought that would create an adjustment layer, maybe I'm misunderstanding something? Anyway, if I create a black video stump and then right click it and choose "Adjustment layer", it will turn into one, and everything works as it should with that. If the black video become adjustment layer is placed on a video track atop my video, and I add for example color correction to it, it will be applied to the videos below.

    Hi
    The only way I see, is to use the "Controls[]" property and iterate through all of them. But don't forget about nested elements (i.e. clusters, tab-controls, ...).

  • I need help writing a script that finds the first instance of a paragraph style and then changes it

    I need help writing a script that finds the first instance of a paragraph style and then changes it to another paragraph style.  I don't necessarily need someone to write the whole thing, by biggest problem is figuring how to find just the first instance of the paragraph style.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

    Hi,
    Do you mean first instance of the paragraph style
    - in a chosen story;
    - on some chosen page in every text frames, looking from its top to the bottom;
    - in a entire document, looking from its beginning to the end, including hidden layers, master pages, footnotes etc...?
    If story...
    You could set app.findTextPreferences.appliedParagraphStyle to your "Style".
    Story.findText() gives an array of matches. 1st array's element is a 1st occurence.
    so:
    Story.findText()[0].appliedParagraphStyle = Style_1;
    //==> this will change a paraStyle of 1st occurence of story to "Style_1".
    If other cases...
    You would need to be more accurate.

  • Edit find/change (not finding all instances)

    I am using Edit>Find/Change to change a brand name in a document — however, this feature is not finding ALL instances of the brand name. I am having to manually/visually edit through the entire doc. Suggestions?

    Hi,
    You could check whether "Case sensitive" is switched on in your find/change dialog. Also check that your find format options are cleared. Click the "More Options" button if the find format options are not showing in the dialog.

  • Animation Question: Changing all keyframe instances in a single layer all at once?

    I am working on an animated piece in Adobe Flash. I have a
    single 'head comp' layer that contains head, eyes, mouth, etc.
    layers within. I have created several keyframes in this layer to
    animate the entire head comp. Furthermore, I have several keyframes
    within that comp for lip sync, eye movements, etc.
    My problem is, I have to manually change every single
    keyframe in the head comp layer to sync up with the animation
    contained within. For example, if I have a keyframe on the main
    head comp layer-- on frame 5-- I have to manually select frame 5,
    go to Properties panel, change to "Play Once," and then type in the
    frame number in the "First" field. I then have to repeat this
    process several hundred times across the entire layer. There must
    be a faster to to sync up the whole layer. Please help!!!

    Thanks again for your help.
    I think my problem here is, I'm not trying to move any frames
    or anything. I just want to change the properties panel of each
    keyframe in the layer to "Play Once" and have the number in the
    "First" field match it's frame number (example: I want to change
    the "First" field to "10" if the keyframe starts on frame 10. That
    way it will match up with my lip sync animation on frame 10 of the
    nested layer within.) Does that make sense? I have been having to
    change each keyframe number in the layer manually. It takes
    forever.
    The "Play Once/Loop/Single Frame" option isnt available if I
    dont create a motion tween. Again, I'm not trying to move my
    animation-- just change all of the Properties at once.
    Also- if this helps- I am working in CS3.

  • How to Make a "fonts.css" style sheet

    Hi, I  have a wordpress blog with a stylesheet named “style.css”. I want to change the fonts in the style sheet and so I want to create a separate style sheet named “fonts.css"
    I could just duplicate the ”style.css” page and then rename it “fonts.css” but I believe I read somewhere it is better to create a new style sheet named “fonts.css” and then add my font styles to that. Doens anyone know of a tutorial or how I make the new style sheet and add my fonts?

    I only typically use two stylesheets on any given site, layout.css and styles.css. One is for the overall layout/positioning info of the site and the other is the style information which would include fonts, colors, shadows, transitions, etc.
    If it is better in your mind and for your workflow to create a third stylesheet just for the font values, go for it. To me, fonts are just another style element though, so they stay in my styles.css file.
    There's really no right or wrong to doing it either way. Just make sure you create another link in the head section of your site to the new file if you create fonts.css.
    Thanks jon,
    Yes I agree, I could just change the fonts in “style.css” and then have less style sheets, but the themes developer told me to create a new style sheet named “fonts.css” only because the theme is updated regularly and uploading a new theme will write over the file named “style.css” and then your fonts will default to their original fonts.
    I don't see anything wrong with that approach. Just remember that if you have both styesheets linked to the same page then the page will get it's css styles from the last linked stylesheet.
    So for instance if you have:
    body {
    font-size: 14px ;
    in the style.css
    and
    body {
    font-size: 12px ;
    in the fonts.css
    and the last linked stylesheet was styles.css the page would display 14px text.
    So you just need to get them in the right order IF you have more than one styleshet linked to a page.
    Thanks Osgood,
    Yes that was my other question. So in my uploaded CSS folder I have the original “style.css” file and now my new “fonts.css” file. “style.css” is above the “fonts.css” file and both contain the same information except the file “fonts.css’ has been changed to use different fonts.
    So if I understand you correctly I need to either move the file “fonts.css" above the file “style.css” or delete “style .css” from the CSS folder so the file “fonts.css” will take precedence. Is this correct?
    Also, I needed to open style.php and edit the code to include “fonts.css” which I did.
    I opened "style.php" and then added the code in "red" then uploaded it to the (CSS) folder on the server.
    <?php
    header( "Content-type: text/css" );
    $files = array();
    $files[] = 'style.css';
    $files[] = 'responsive.css';
    $files[] = 'fonts.css';
    foreach($files as $file) :
        $content = @file_get_contents( $file );
        echo minify( $content );
    endforeach;
    function minify( $code ) {
              $code = preg_replace( '#\s+#', ' ', $code );
              $code = preg_replace( '#/\*.*?\*/#s', '', $code );
              $code = str_replace( '; ', ';', $code );
              $code = str_replace( ': ', ':', $code );
              $code = str_replace( ' {', '{', $code );
              $code = str_replace( '{ ', '{', $code );
              $code = str_replace( ', ', ',', $code );
              $code = str_replace( '} ', '}', $code );
              $code = str_replace( ';}', '}', $code );
              return trim( $code );
    ?>
    After doing all of this I still didn’t see any changes to my fonts so I must have done something wrong.
    Any ideas?

  • Bloated CSS Style Sheet...

    My style sheet is about 60k... much too big.
    Trying to find a way to put it on a diet.
    Is there a way to convert it to ' css shorthand'?
    I set the preferences to use shorthand for css declarations but don't see any change in existing style sheets.
    Help appreciated.
    Dan H.

    Hi, Dan,
    Without your code in front of me, I'll be shooting arrows in the dark, but here goes. (at 60k, I'm pretty sure we don't want you to copy it in here!)
    1. Check for styles that are very nearly the same as each other. You can 'gang up' many styles into one declaration, and only separate out the bits that differ:
    Instead of
    h1 {
         font-family: Verdana, Arial, sans-serif;
         color: blue;
         font-size: 1.4em;
    h2 {
         font-family: Verdana, Arial, sans-serif;
         color: blue;
         font-size: 1.2em;
    h3 {
         font-family: Verdana, Arial, sans-serif;
         color: blue;
         font-size: 1.1em;
    (note the similarities?) use
    h1, h2, h3 {
         font-family: Verdana, Arial, sans-serif;
         color: blue;
         font-size: 1.4em;
    h2 { font-size: 1.2em;}
    h3 { font-size: 1.1em;}
    Put the fuller-bodied style first and the difference styles after, so they will rule for their particular attribute stylings.
    2. ONLY style those attributes that you need to style. You need not define EVERY possible attribute of a tag, etc. The lists of attributes that you see in the CSS Styles Panel (Show Category View, for instance) are only there for your convenience. They are not all there because you need to actually style them all, all the time. If you are restyling a Heading 1 and are only changing the default color to blue, only style that attribute.
    3. If you are using Spry Widgets, leave those styles in their own CSS file, don't bring them into your site CSS file. You can link multiple CSS files to your pages.
    If you see any of these possibilities for your style sheet diet, give them a try. If you can upload the file and give us a link, I'm sure we can come up with some additional suggestions!

  • Anyone managed to change default hyperlink colour or to globally change hyperlink colour in Pages????

    Anyone managed to change default hyperlink colour or to globally change hyperlink colour in Pages????
    - Thats all I  want to do, the holy grail of desktop publishing, being able to choose a colour and apply it everywhere, c'mon Apple sort it out, its surely not rocket surgery....

    I figured it out.
    Select one instance of the hyperlink, and define it as a character style in the styles drawer.
    Then create the preferred style you want to use for hyperlinks and save it to character styles.
    You can select every instance of the original link style, and replace with the preferred style.
    Hopefully I've explained this adequately.
    Cheers.

  • Global Changes

    Hello forum,
    I'm a graphic designer for a print shop and consider myself an educated Illustrator user. There's one thing in particular I'm looking for, however, and don't believe Illustrator has the feature. In my doubt I figured I'd ask the wealth of knowledge that is the Adobe forums and hope for a better solution.
    I've got a a business card template with 8 different cards on it. I've set all the colors to a global color allowing me to change them all at once. My question is how many other things can I set to the global setting?
    Fonts? Different images? An entire template that alters all copies in the same manor Smart Objects do in Photoshop?
    Thanks for your help.

    Symbols can contain most anything. With Symbols you can swap multiple Instances of the same Symbol with Instances of another Symobol. You can globally select all the Instances of a given Symbol.
    Variables are like fields in a database (sort of). You bind objects as Variables in four, and only four types: Text. Graph Data, Linked File, and Visibility. You can then change the content or visibility state of the bound Variables and store the current combination as a Data Set. You can then swap out the Data Sets, somewhat like flipping through records in a database. But you cannot place multiple instances of the same Variablle "field" on the page.
    For typographical global changes, use Character and Paragraph Styles.
    For Appearance-based global changes, use Graphic Styles.
    Changes to Brushes can globally update all objects to which they are applied.
