Glossy dust covers / jackets for hardback iphoto books

I have an A3 epson printer and was considering buying some roll media (http://www.allpcstuff.co.uk/?page=proddetail&prod=2505) to produce some glossy dust jackets / covers for the books I make.
Has any one else done this? and if so what are your experiences, and do you have an illstrator / indesign / eps template that fits the book..
Cheers
Craig

good discussion for me thanks on book covers. I am waiting on books to arrive as part of a set and will be angry if they are different to the others with silver embossing on the cover. This is what sets apple product apart from other books, is the silver cove. Does the matt cover look cheap? I would like your oppinion thanks.
Silver embossing is not available with iPhoto '09 - it is available only with iPhoto '08 and Aperture. Your iPhoto '09 book will have a laminated photo cover (I love it myself)

Duplicate your book and try to change the theme in the copy.  Chnaging the theme may change the layout  of your text fileds. That is why you need the copy to be able to compare the pages before and after.
Ctrl-click the book in the Source list and select "Duplicate".
Click the "Change Theme" button in the upper right corner of the Book pane, make sure, you have the same theme selected and the same size. Click Hardcover.

  • Efficient workflow for large iPhoto books

I have searched extensively but if this is covered somewhere else please forgive me and redirect, thanks.

When making an iPhoto book (love 'em!) I usually use smart albums to make a shortlist of pics to be included - but it isn't usually a short shortlist...(my current book's shortlist is 500+ and I would imagine my books usually end up with somewhere between 300 - 400 pics
So the maximum 100 pages is usually filled with quite a lot of unplaced pics left.  I then whittle down the placed pics to make room for the best of the unplaced... it's a long way from efficient
It would help if there was a way, once having edited out a few placed photos, if the same number of unplaced photos then auto filled in the empty spaces.. I haven't found a way to do that.
If anybody knows a way for me to proceed OTHER THAN the alternative which I do know which is to be more selective in the first place so I start each book with a lower number - if thats what I have to do, so be it but if there was another way.....

FWIW I create a new, separate library for each book.  I assemble the photos to be used in to an album in the main library and then copy it to the book library with the paid version of  iPhoto Library Manager.
When I'm done with the book and it's ordered I cull out the photos I didn't use in the book and then archive the book library to another HD, a CD or DVD disk (if small enough to fit).  This way the book is isolated from the day to day use of my main library and any accidental deletions of photos in the book.  If I want to reorder a copy, edited or not,  I know the book is intact.

  • Digital Camera for great iPhoto book quality

I want to start making iPhoto books, calendars, and cards and was looking to buy a new digital camera in order to do this. I was wondering how many megapixels I should get in order to ensure high quality pictures when I have the books printed out.
    Thanks

..... Be happy with your budget. I had a nice Canon that sold for under $300, as I recall. My pictures and videos came out looking wonderful, I feel. (So did others) Unfortunately, it was eventually ruined, by my very hard use under awful weather conditions. I wasn't always careful. It just went off to recycling heaven.
Shooting nature shots, I must say that I did see other people's pictures that were better than mine. Gosh knows how much those big cameras with telephoto lenses and super-fast shooting cost.
Those cameras are almost unfair competition, since these people could simply put the camera on auto, aim at a moving subject and start shooting multiple pics per second. Of course one of them would catch this or that bird in flight with a fish in its mouth, for example. Fantastic Picture! Yet, it was the camera that made the pic, not the photographer, IMHO.
Eventually, I just called them nature paarazzi, and enjoyed myself despite some rude laughter at my real mistakes. Still is fun. Some photographers are just cruel, but that's different story.

  • I need a coupon code for my iPhoto book

Has Apple made available any special coupon codes that I can use when ordering my iPhoto book? If so, where can I go to get one?
    Thanks!

Sounds like Disk Utility may become your new best friend. Use it to make an Image, onto your internal drive. voila-authorizations are XSkey dependant, not system dependant.

  • Black and white photos for an iPhoto Book

I've scanned many old black and white photos into iPhoto and would like to create books with them, but I read that iPhoto will not work with black and white photos for books, only color photos. Is that true and are there any suggestions for how to create a book using them? Thanks.

There is a bug affecting PPC Macs with iPhoto 6.0.5 and QuickTime 7.1.3 that causes it to crash with photos that have no color profile attatched. In addition, iPhoto 6 does not work well with Grayscale. So check these scans to see if they have no color profile or if the profile is grayscale. If so, you'll need to convert them to sRGB. They'll still be black & white, but they'll have a color profile that iPhoto 6 will accept.
Old Toad created an Automator application to embed the sRGB profile into your photos. Go to his Toad's Cellar and download the "Embed wRGB Color Profile 2" App. In Finder go in your Originals folder, then drop a roll folder containing these photos onto the app.

Before doing anything, you might want to try inserting some of those scans into a book template and see what happens. To see how a book will print when you order it from Apple, choose Print when you are viewing the book. Allow it to assemble the file. In the Print Dialog box, click the PDF button and select Save PDF from the drop-down menu. Minimize the iPhoto window to find a little box asking you to select a location for the saved PDF. [If you don't go looking for this window you'll be stuck waiting indefinitely.] View the PDF and see how those black & white scans look.

  • Specs exist somewhere for printing iPhoto books?

Are there specs available somewhere that detail how the books are printed (paper weight etc.) and how they prefer files? i've read that files should be in RGB form but the printing is in cmyk, are they converting it? if my originals are in cmyk why not leave it that way? (this is for a portfolio, not a photo book of my digital photos).
    thanks

The best iformation I've found is Old Toad's reply from his request to Apple in this thread -- http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6633204#6633204

  • TS1140 I am having issues with an iPhoto book that I created.  When I try to purchase it, it fails to load for payment, yet I don't see any error messages in the book itself?  Help!

I can't seem to get my photos for an iphoto book to load.  It will assemble the pictures, but at the last step, it never progresses with loading the photos - I always get an error message.

    how doe the preview work?
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
    what is the error message?

http://www.apple.com/support/photoservices/shipping/ - basically 3 to 4 business days production plus shipping of 3 to 14 business days
Or, can I just order it 2 day delivery & it will be here in 2 days?
    no

Not really - they are big files - you probably need to do a print to PDF (or right click (control click) on a grey background area and select preview book from the contextual menu and save the PDF and burn it to a CD and ship it - once you have the PDF you can try e-mails it but it probably will fail on either your end or her's because of the size
And maybe you can downsize the preview since you will not be printing from it.

  • IPhoto Book Delivery Time

Can anyone tell me the average delivery time for an iPhoto book. I'm doing one for a class project that is due in one week. If I submit it now, will I receive it in time? I've never done a book before, so I have no idea.

You may get it on time. It took me about 6 days to receive mine. But Beware!! I proofread mine numerous times and previewed it in PDF format and there were numerous mistakes in the captioning.
