Glyph panel corrupted in CS3

I have InDesign CS3 in Widnows 7, latest updates. All of a sudden, the "entire font" window in the glyph pane has disappeared. None of the other drop-down options there work either. Only the "recent glyphs" show up. I have no idea what cause this. Any ideas how to fix this?
   Otherwise, everything works fine.

This was the first thing I had tried, but it doesn't affect the Glyphs panel. Not expecting so quick a response, I went and tried a more drastic step a couple of minutes ago: backing up and then deleting the entire "Cache" subdirectory at  C:\Users\myname\AppData\Local\Adobe\InDesign\Version 5.0\.
   It worked.

  • Disappearing content in glyphs panel

I am using InDesign CS3 and make huge use of the Glyphs panel for accented characters in French, Spanish, etc. Yesterday I opened this panel to convert some French and to my dismay found no glyphs in the display at all, and all the commands blanked out in the menus. I closed down and relaunched the application and when that did not work, I tried restarting Windows. Still no glyphs! If I were running a Mac I would trash Preferences and see if that worked, but this is a Windows XP machine (1 gig of RAM) at work. This panel was fine a few days ago.
I have not installed anything new to this computer recently and stay current with InDesign updates. Any ideas?

Hey, I didn't know you could do that in Windows! :) But I found out how to do it (close the program, start it up again and quickly hold down ctrl-alt-shift) and it worked --thank you so much! Because not only my glyphs went missing, so did my strokes, character (the general one, not the custom), and a few others!
So thanks again for pointing me in the right direction, because I am working on Swedish now and was moaning and groaning about dragging in those characters from Character Map. :)

  • Hi I have trouble in using alternative characters from the glyphs panel in illustrator CS5.

I have recently installed the CS5 version of Adobe Creative Suite I have purchased long ago.
I have trouble using the alternative characters from the glyphs panel. The problem doesn't happen with a specific font but a few.
There are fonts that work fine and fonts that do not (either true or open type fonts)
I can see the characters alternatives in the glyphs panel but when clicking only the normal characters appear.
I have also tried to re-install the fonts but didn't fix the problem.
Reading from previous posts that other users had same problem they concluded that there has been a problem / bug with the CS5 version glyphs that needed to be fixed
Is this the case? What shall I do?

Hi - I have found the update so problem solved !

  • Glyph panel not displaying font character sets in cs5.5

    Hi
I'm having issues with accessing font character sets & glyphs in ID cs5.5.
I have all my fonts in fontbook and can see the full font character sets displayed but
when I go to my glyph panel to access any additional character or glyphs sets there
is nothing displayed. Any idea where I'm going wrong?
    Thank you

You potentially have a "bad" font. Check your fonts and remove the offender.

  • Why doesn't Photoshop have a glyphs panel?!

I look for it every time I want to add a glyph because both Illustrator and InDesign have it. I have to open Illustrator, type the glyph, and then copy and paste it into Photoshop. It's a very inefficient process....

All the apps have different teams for development, so there is little communication between teams. Features that are in one app, either may not work in other apps, or require all new code to be written. A Glyph panel has had a lot of request by many people. Hopefully Adobe will add this feature to PS soon.

  • Kuler Panel for Flash CS3

I recently released my Kuler Panel for Flash CS3. It allows
you to browse, search and select Kuler color schemes from within
Flash CS3. Selecting a scheme will create a new layer with the
swatches on it. You can learn more here:

You can watch a demo video from John Knack at Adobe here:

Is there any (public) timetable for the release of the Flash
Lite for BREW Publisher for Mac? My ideal development scenario (due
to the fact that I only have one legal license of Adobe Flash CS3
and it's for the Mac) would be to develop using Flash CS3 within
OSX, and then port my MOD/MIF files to my BREW device using
    Parallels and WinXP.
Alternatively, I could have a dedicated version of Flash set
up for BREW development (which I do with Flash 8). Obviously,
however, buying two licenses of CS3 just to publish MOD/MIF files
is less than desirable. Please let me know either way.

  • Idesign CC 2014 doesn't recognise the glyph panel plug-in

An error message appears saying I need to reinstall the plug-in, but how do I do that?
    On a Mac 10.10.2

Hey P Spier, I tried doing Cmd + Ctrl + Opt + Shift  and was fast enough for the dialog box to appear, but it didn't solve the problem, so I tried the ''manual'' replacement pref and it didn't work either. Is there a way to download the Glyphs panel plugin so I can reinstall it?

  • CS3 swatch panel corrupted

So, my swatch panel is totally garbled.
Any new swatches come in as black. The Pantone selector appears in front of any sliders. It's basically impossible to modify or create swatches.
Have tried all the usual things I know how to do on a mac, permissions, reinstall, trashing preferences etc, to no avail.
Bit of a nightmare to be honest. Oh how I hate macs. Any ideas?

Not impolite atall, my fault for not reading your link properly and assuming that my quick prefs trash would do the job.
I'll definitely pass this on as a troubleshooting option to my colleagues, don't think any of them know about it either!
Thanks again, I was starting to get quite frustrated and very happy to find out it was so easy to fix.

  • Disappearing panel content in CS3

InDesign CS3, Mac Pro 3GHz, OS X 10.5.2, 16 gig of Ram, plenty of HD space.
In my workspace I have my most-used panels grouped, i.e. Character-Paragraph-OpenType-Glyphs constitute one group and Swatches-Stroke-Layers-Pages constitute another.
Occasionally when I switch from one of the tabs in a group to another by clicking on the wanted tab (such as switching from Pages to Layers), the content of the selected panel will not be there. The tab is there with its name but the entire panel is blank. Restarting InDesign fixes this problem -- until the next time.
This is a problem that needs to be fixed.
I had this problem under OS 10.5.1 and hoped it would be fixed with the 10.5.2 update but it wasn't. I've read one or two posts which didn't describe this exact problem but are slightly similar and suggest it is a corrupted Prefs file. Having to replace it and rebuild my Prefs is worse than just restarting.
    Has anyone else encountered this?

Same problem here, but more serious. My pages palette and color palette is blank whatever I do. Restart do not solve the problem, neither removing some of the prefs files (found a solution for CS that don't work in CS3 - adress: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=330533).
Obviously this is an old problem that have been hanging around since CS and Adobe haven't fixed it yet. It's about time they find a solution for this problem.
I have this CS3 installed on an old G4 running 10.4.11.

  • How to stop Leopard corrupting CS2/CS3 Photoshop files?

Ever since upgrading to Leopard 10.5.3 (including updates since then)--the DAY AFTER I installed 10.5.3--I have had intermittent corruption of Photoshop files (.psd, .tif, .jpeg). The only constant from the dozens of times this has happened is that it happens when I am saving in Photoshop; Photoshop freezes up, won't shut down; I have to manually reboot; and then the file I was saving AND files that had been saved in the last several hours (and were okay) have been corrupted into Mexican rugs. I repeat, files that were saved and opened and previously found to be okay ARE THEN RETROACTIVELY CORRUPTED along with the file I'm currently trying to save. Also, when Photoshop froze, before shutting down, I've tried opening recent files with Preview and they look okay, and I take captures of the images before I shut down, and after reboot these are corrupted as well. This has been going on for six months, unpredictably. It has happened with lots of things running (iTunes, DVD player, podcasts) and little running; with a full desktop and a clean desktop; saving to desktop, Lacie drives, and different internal drives on my G5. Apple Store says nothing wrong with my machine, I've wiped my drive and run Disk Warrior--no problems. The only constant is that I never had this problem prior to Leopard 10.5.3 and have had it ever since the day after I did that upgrade, and subsequent upgrades. It started with CS2, so I upgraded to CS3. It still happens, however unpredictably. I also noted tonight when it froze that after reboot, I couldn't use Spotlight for ten minutes because the OS was "indexing". Error messages include "Could not complete your request because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered", "Could not complete your request because the file is not a TIFF file (it is)", "Could not complete your request because of a problem parsing the TIFF file", " Cannot open file because it was created with different version of Photoshop (not true)". No other file formats or files are corrupted, only Photoshop-created files.
Please note that Apple’s release of 10.5.3 caused corruption of PS CS2 files when saved over networks, instigating upgrade 10.5.4 days later. I never had any problem like this with Panther or Tiger; indeed, I wish I’d never upgraded to Leopard due to the lost hours and income this corruption problem has created. But I did, and now I’m stuck. Any solutions out there?

If you're seeing issues with files from multiple applications, I'd suspect corrupt sectors on your hard drive. Do you have an external/another drive you could install OS X and your applications on and see if the symptoms persist?
    Otherwise, here's another suggestion:
If I was dealing with your issue, here's what I'd do.
    1) Backup my data--not a clone of the drive, since you're having issues.
    2) Erase the drive and reinstall OS X. Do not bring in any applications yet.
    3) Apply all OS updates.
    4) Reinstall one 3rd-party (non-Apple) software application. Test this for a few hours or a day and see if any issues pop up.
    5) If things are still error-free after a day, make a clone of the drive to an external. This way, if any changes you make cause problems, you can erase the internal and then restore your copy of the clone to the internal.
    6) Install another application, and repeat the steps.
    Best of luck to you!

  • Preference panel corruption?

I have a small, annoying problem in my system preferences.
I just noticed that the speech panel is corrupted in some way, and I wonder if anyone has any tips on how to either reinstall it or to fix it.
I can click on it like normal, and it opens up the appropriate preference pane, it just looks terrible.
    Here's a picture:

ok well i spoke too soon and fixed it myself -
If anyone runs across this thread one day looking for help here was my solution:
be sure system preferences is closed, then find this file: "username"/library/caches/com.apple.preferencepanes.cache
delete it and empty the trash.
    perfect! hope it helps

  • Panels Overlapping in CS3

PLEASE! For the love of all things FLASH CS3! There is a
MAJOR bug in CS3 which causes the Panels to overlap once another
which annoys the living crap out of me! Does someone know of a fix
    for this?
Also the Output Panel, which in Flash 8 you could dock closed
by double clicking the top bar, does not work the same any more
which means that my traces are forever shown over my Projector
    Window when I publish.
Does anyone know if Adobe's fixed this at all?
I've done all the updates there is to do.
    Many thanks

    Dear Gurus
Is any queries regarding this thread?? ...
    Waiting for the valuable response.

  • LOST TOOLS PANEL in Illustrator CS3 for Mac !

I recently installed Adobe CS3 for Mac on an iMac G5 OS X 10.4.11.  Photoshop works great with no problems.  However in Illustrator I cannot get my Tools Panel to appear.   My "WINDOW" pull down menu in Illustrator only has the following options: "New Window", "Minimize Window", "Bring All to Front", "Attributes", "Info" and "Type".  The "VIEW" pull down menu has many options but none seem to open up the Tools panel. None of my Drawing Tools, Shape Tools, Cutting Tools, Moving Tools etc are visible!
I have uninstalled and then re-installed CS3 to no avail.  I have tried to reset the Adobe software preferences by simultaneously holding down "Command+Option+Shift+Control" during Illustrator launch, a tip I found online but it also failed to work.
    PLEASE HELP!
    Thanks!

This is what i think is wrong.
i think though you have installed AI three times you have also made an alias of the applications icon, or what you thin is an alias.
But what you probably have done is to make a copy of the application outside of the application folder.
If in fact you do think that you are launching fro an alias trash the alias and not and make a new one by holding down the command and option key as you drag the icon. What you probably did was only hold the option key down which made a copy of the application outside the application folder which could prevent these features from loading.
Now I have also heard there is a software conflict that can cause this but I admit I do not recall what that is.

  • Missing Form values in Bindings Panel in Dreamweaver CS3

I've recently upgraded to Dreamweaver CS3 and have noticed
that the form values for forms on the current page are not showing
up in the bindings panel. I believe this was a feature added in
8.0.2 -- it was great for binding a from value to itself on
reloading (in the case the page submitted form failed server side
validation) or for inserting form values into code.
Does anyone know if this feature is still supported in the
new version and how to turn it on -- there's no sign of it in my
    review of the online help.
I'm working in ASP VBScript, and the bindings panel seems to
be displaying the database recordsets on a page just fine.
    Thanks.

Form elements don't automatically display in the Bindings panel. However, you can create form elements in the panel by clicking the plus button and selecting Form Variable from the menu. In a PHP site, this creates a $_POST variable with whatever name you assign to it.

  • Corrupt Dreamweaver CS3 files

I've been working on a websites, my second one, for over a
month now and I've really enjoyed getting to know Dreamweaver CS3.
Unfortunately, the inevitable happened last night.
I returned to my computer (Macbook Pro OSX 10.4.11) and
opened my html and CSS files and both were corrupt. All the code
was gone and some sort of jibberish was in it's place. This is the
second time this has happened and I have not installed any
    extensions.
There was no error message when I opened the file and I can
only guess what the problem might be. I recently moved the files
from my local folder to my desktop because I wasn't ready to
publish yet. Dreamweaver, or my Mac, was also having trouble
    recognizing Jpeg files.
I'm pretty disappointed but really don't know what to do.
I've considered two resolutions, neither of which is very
appealing. First, I could reinstall Dreamweaver and make sure all
files are placed properly in the root folder, or second, I could
reinstall the entire OS and all CS3 apps.
I know recovering the files is not likely, and I have earlier
versions saved, but more importantly, I want to make sure
Dreamweaver works properly in the future so I can avoid having to
redo weeks of work. If anyone has advice or has experienced
something similar, I would sincerely appreciate your input.
    Many thanks.
    Doug

    Thanks much for the reply.
This isn't a live site so no FTP or remote server was
involved. I wonder if moving the files to my desktop caused the
problem? All files for the site were originally set up in the
shared folder for publishing from the mac but they were always
local. I moved them to the desktop to rebuild and test a rollover
nav issue which I was able to resolve (a big step forward)
But now, all files are corrupt.
I'm seriously considering reinstalling the entire OS and
apps. Backing up all my design files and the resources saved to
bridge would be a pain, for sure, but the main goal is to have a
stable environment for development moving forward as I'll be taking
courses to incorporate mySQL and PHP this fall.
This did happen one other time, so maybe it's an installation
issue. I wish I could provide more info but I'm stumped.
    Disappointing...
