GMA X3100 graphics card.

I was just wondering,
I want to buy the Sims 2 game for Mac, but it says i require a Radeon 9000 graphics card or better or a GeForce FX5200 graphics card or better. I currently own a MacBook with a GMA X3100 graphics card. I want to know if the Sims game will work with my current graphics card, as I already found out that Need For Speed Carbon wont work with it. I would also like to know if it will work with Leopard, as I recently upgraded.
Thanks in advance

Hi MacDeejay!
I was able to get Sims 2 running on my MacBook with the X3100 card without any major issues. I found that I needed to turn my graphics settings to low or else the more that began to appear on the screen things would slow down dramatically. Occasionally I'd get some odd rendering as some shaders and color combinations would take longer to load than others. I'd imagine the game to run extremely well on the MacBook Pro but it certainly runs on the MacBook.
It is listed on Intel's site for compatible games for the X3100 as well...

  • Gma X3100 graphic card

    Hello everyone,
I recently purchased an external monitor (Dell ST2220L, with VGA, DVI D and HDMI plugs) to use with my macbook early 2008 (in Snowleopard 10.6.8) which has the Intel GMA X3100 graphics processor.
My professionnal PC, has an Intel HD family graphics processor and works fine with this new monitor (be it in VGA, DVI D or HDMI)
However, for some reason, with my Macbook, only the VGA connector (via mini dvi to vga adaptor) works.
When I plug the monitor via DVI (and via the mini dvi to dvi adapter) to the mac, the screen shows the message : "Entering power save mode" and goes into power save mode.
I have read and tried the solutions mentionned on pretty much on every related webforum (esp here / i wanted to add a message to that thread but it's been archived) :
    resetting PRAM
    resetting SMC
    lowering MB screen light
disactivating any monitor option related to power save mode
    selecting and unselecting Mirror display
using the software InsomniaX to prevent my MB from having power sleep options turned on...
    but nothing works.
now i'm running out of ideas, and especially I'm starting to wonder if it's not a graphics processor driver problem or a problem linked to v10.6.8 as I have already successfully plugged my MB via DVI to an external monitor (not dell tho') in the past.
It's frustrating to have to use VGA when you bought the screen to use with DVI or HDMI.
Thank you very much if anyone has an idea of what could be wrong !
    All the best

If you have a PC and the generic software that comes with the camera you can as well.
If iMovie 08 can import high definition video can it not output it on its own as AVCHD (AVC/H.264 - MPEG4) to DVD?

  • Radeon 9000 vs Intel GMA X3100 graphics

    which is better Radeon 9000
    or the intel GMA x3100
    graphics card
because i want to play sims 2 on a new macbook
    thanks

    Good morning,
Well, this is not an easy, clear cut question. The Radeon is an old, out of date card however it does have a dedicated GPU and Memory on board. The 3100 is an integrated chip with shared system memory, however, it is much newer and up to date.
I'd put my money on the 3100 myself, however, neither is really up to the task of playing The Sims 2 in my opinion, that game (on the PC) taxed my CoreDuo with a GeForce 7900GT. :P
    Hope this helps! 

  • Battlefront 2 on GMA X3100 graphics

I was just wondering if anyone here has been able to get Star Wars Battlefront 2 to run on their macbook with the integrated GMA series graphics cards via Boot Camp. I have asked this question on a few different forums to no avail. I have not yet bought the game, but would really love to. If anyone has installed it on this system, please let me know. Your help would be great!

  • Sims 3 with a GMA 950 Graphic Card?

I really want to use the sims 3 on my macbook. It's a few years old. I looked in System Profiler and saw that i have a GMA 950 graphics card? I'm going to upgrad my memory to 2GB. Will it be possible to play the game?
    Thanks for the help!

It may work, but the graphics card is NOT supported. I saw this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9573469&#9573469
Which doesn't clearly state if the users were successful or not with the Mac version of Sims 3.
Maybe someone else will have more solid information.

  • Is Intel GMA X3100 graphics enough?

Does anyone know if the updated MacBooks with the Intel GMA X3100 graphics processor now supports some of the build transitions that were previously unavailable (burn, flash etc...)
    Thanks

Good question. I'll have to stop by my local Apple Store to check (I was there during the Leopard release, but didn't look specifically for that).

  • GMA X3100 Graphics capability

thinking to get my daughter her first macbook for college. went to local apple store to check out the 13" and they said it wont run games like Quake4 or Sims2. Looked into what the games require for graphics, but I don't know one graphics card from another. Also, bottom end Macbook Pro is a little to rich ($$$) for a 1st year college kid... plus I'm afraid someone my steal the Pro! Maybe I should just get her a PC (please forgive me).
Quake4 requires: ATI Radeon 9600 or NVidia GeForce 6600 or later 64MB VRAM.
Sims2 requires: ATI Radeon 9000 or later or NVidia GeForce FX5200 or later 32MB VRAM (64MB recommended).
question: how does the X3100 compare to these graphics capabilites and/or is the guy at the store right and the 13" macbook isn't game friendly??
    thanks, Chris

    He's partially correct.
It will run those games decently when set at a low FPS (frames per second) setting. It is not the ideal choice however for gaming, video editing, etcetera because of it's non-upgradeable video card.
It's a great college laptop, however. (works for me!)
If intense games are real important, I would get her an iMac if portability isn't a huge thing. They are very affordable and do well with games.
If intense games aren't real important, I would get her the MacBook.
I would go to an Apple Store and see if they have a MacBook with some games on it. To give yourself an idea of what I mean by "decent".
    Good luck with your purchase.

  • GMA X3100 Graphics Choppy

Come on! 23 benchmark on open GL with GMA X3100, not even my old MacBook with GMA950.
Do you know if the software update for Leopard will fix this? Exposé is choppy, screensavers are choppy, dock is choppy...
Windows drivers on Boot Camp make really cool. Not in Mac, what is going on? Any way to report this directly to Apple?

    Hi jsn1!
    There certainly is:

  • Help with running OS X 10.5 with a GMA X3100 video card

I am trying to boot Mac OS X 10.5 on my iPod. I kept booting, and every time it came up with a kernel panic. I ran it in Verbose mode, and it said that the video card was not supported. The updaters said that my iPod didn't meet the requirements, which I think that Leopard needs to be succsessfully booted to be able to update. I need help booting into Leopard so I can do some things.

I have been able to run Cheetah and Tiger on it. Also, the partition is Mac OS Extended (Jounaled) and the disk has the GUID Partition Table. The iPod is a 2nd gen "Touch Wheel" iPod, 20 GB. The HD on my MacBook is just about full, so what other way can I use Leopard without using an external drive?

  • Is 1GB RAM Macbook + Intel GMA 950 graphics card enough to play WoW ???

im thinkin to buy macbook, but im not sure is it enough to play WoW or not ?? has any1 tried to play WoW in macbook ?? is it lagging or not ??
    please reply. Thx

I installed WoW on my daughters MacBook white 2.0 GHz today. I bought it from the local Apple reseller and paid for 1 GB of RAM - instead of putting in 2x512 sticks, they took out 1 of the 256 MB sticks and inserted a 1 GB, so the machine has 1.256 GB of unmatched RAM - this may have an effect on the graphics performance, I'm not sure.
Anyway - frame rates at full resolution and using the default video options gives about 25 fps inside an inn, and about 12 fps outside. Running across a bridge or doing something else that puts a lot of changing detail on the screen can cause the fps to drop to around 10. The game is quite playable, though I haven't tried a raid with it. Changing the screen resolution will increase the fps. Changing to 1152 wide increases the fps by about 50%, while changing to 1024 wide will about double it.
At 1024 wide, the fps is about the same as on my 1.25 GHz PowerBook running at 1280 wide.

  • Macbook Graphics Card Change

I have a early 2008 white macbook with an Intel GMA X3100 graphics card inside. Lately, many of my programs have become slow, making me think that my grahpics card is too old. Is there any way to change out the current graphics card in my Macbook for a newer version?

what programs are you talking about, it could be that your hard drive is getting full and you don't have enough RAM. The slowness you talk about might not be related at all to the graphics, unless you mean streaming video from the internet or real-time 3D racing or airplane simulator type games, of course.

  • Will Diablo 2 work in bootcamp or parallels with the Intel GMA X3100?

I have the Intel GMA X3100 graphics card on my new macbook which seems to be incompatible with Diablo 2. Usually you have to install a beta copy to run it, which is incompatible with Battle.net. If I install parallels or boot camp, will I be able to play Diablo 2 on battle.net?

You need to use the Diablo II native installer.
    http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=20758
So, you download it, run it, and it will ask you to insert your play discs.
But for myself that didn't work. The game was originally written for OS 9 so it seems to have issues I think.
If that native installer doesn't work then you can install windows on boot camp. All you need is a copy of XP SP2 disc or Vista SP1. Then you can run the boot camp utility (That will create disc space for windows, or called partitioning). I would recommend running any games in boot camp than parallels/VMware fusion. In virtualization(What parallels/VMware does) you're running windows on top of OS X, which eats up a lot more hardware resources.

  • The MacBook graphics card.

The current MacBook for sale has a GMA X3100 graphics card. Battlefield 2142's system requirements say that the game will not run on a GMA950 graphics card. So will Battlefield 2142 run on the current MacBook?

Probably not. The X3100 is slightly faster than the older 950. Troubles with the Apple drivers are making a comparison between the two hard at the moment, and things may improve slightly with time.
Frame rates, even at lower than native resolutions are poor (like 10-20 frames per second on games like Quake 4).
This link will give you some idea of how slight the improvement is: http://www.barefeats.com/mbook2.html

  • X3100&NVS140M graphic card, which one can take more quickly in ultiboard Show 3D?

anyone can tell me,X3100&NVS140M graphic card, which one render speed more quickly,in ultiboard show 3D?
Actual,I used nvs140m graphic card more slowly than x3100 graphic card obviously. It's right or not?

I don't think anyone will be able to definitely tell you that one particular graphics card will be better than the other. There are just too many factors. The only way to tell would be to test over and over, and even then, you may not get consistent results.

  • Is the new GMA X3100 144 MB with 4 GB RAM better than 128 MB video card?

    Hello,
I am trying to decide on buying the new MacBook with the GMA X3100 video card or an older MacBook Pro with 128 MB video card, or possibly even the 256 MB video card if I can find a good deal.
I was thinking if I put 4 GB of ram in the new MacBook the shared memory would be fine and I would get some good usage out of the computer.
I will be using this computer for Adobe CS3 Web PRemium, photoshop, dreamweaver etc.
I also want to use Final Cut Studio 2 on this computer, and I know that it will not work as efficiently as my iMac 2.4 with 4 GB ram with 256 MB video card, but I mostly want to work on Motion videos and a little final cut pro 6 editing.
So, what are your thoughts guys? I have looked through the forums and haven't found the exact information I am looking for.
Any information you need from me?

Anyone else have experience with this topic?
I am looking for tests done or some other form of information. I have been searching for benchmarking tests with no luck for my question of 4 GB of RAM on new 2.2 ghz macbook with 144 mb shared video card compared to macbook pro with 128 or 256 video card separate.
