  • Yahoo account keeps asking for password on apple mail

hi im running mountain lion and my yahoo account keeps asking for my password every now and then and its getting really annoying. i enter the right password but then it will ask for it again later. its only with my yahoo account. can anyone help? thank you!

go to applications > utilities > keychain access
you may need to enter your password to unlock the lock in the left upper corner.
    under keychains select login
    under category select passwords
make sure that there are no duplicate entries for yahoo mail. If there are, delete them
if that doesn't work, delete all of the yahoo entries, and go back in mail.app > preferences and delete the yahoo account and reenter the account info from scratch.
doing keychain first aid wouldn't hurt either.
    in keychain access, do option-command-A
    verify and then repair.
    this will probably fix it.

  • ICloud Account Keeps Asking for Password in System Preferences

I am extremely frustrated with iCloud. I'm on Lion 10.7.3.
    Two main issues:
System Preferences, iCal, and Contacts keeps asking for my iCloud account password over and over again. It will not retain the password whne I type it in. I know the password is correct because when I type it in everytime the services update and retain the password until I log out and log back in.
I tried to delete the iCloud account and set it up again to see if that would fix the issue, but I cannot delete the account. In System Preferences I have tried to delete the account using the minus sybmol at the bottom and have tried the "Sign Out" method. The account disappears until I restart System Preferences. I tried deleting the account and rebooting, but it is still there.
Any ideas? I would love to know if there is a way to override all this in Terminal.

  • Mail (gmail account) constantly asking for password

    Hello,
    My wife has a 3gs
She originally setup her mail using the phones built in gmail account step by step method. While using this, her phone was constantly saying it could not access the gmail server.
So, I setup her mail with gmail using the google sync/Exchange method.
Now it is constantly asking her for her gmail password. When you enter the password, nothing happens and it asks again. The problem seems to be intermittent.
I have a 3g iphone setup the exact same way, and I have never had either of these problems.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Here's the deal, because of spammers, especially automated computer spammers google uses what is called a captcha lock to block smtp for your account until you prove you're human, and the account owner, and not some computer spammer. The lock can be triggered by the mere fact of setting up your gmail account on a mobile device, like the iphone. Computers, generally, can't read the captcha code, only a human can read it & enter the code correctly. Same reason that when using wifi, other than when at home or at your place of business you may find you can receive email, but can't send. Most wifi providers block all smtp in an effort to stop spammers. Sad, but you can blame spammers for this.

  • Mail Account Keeps Asking for Password

My new iPhone 4 is great, but after setting up my mail accounts it keeps periodically asking for the password for that account. I can receive mail, but can't send it out. I have entered the correct password a number of times - even confirming it on my laptop via keychain. Any suggestions???

    Kevin:
Did you fill in your password for outgoing mail as well? If you set up a smtp account via itunes sync, I found only the receiving email password was filled in. I had the same issue until I looked closer at the accounts set up and noticed that the outgoing mail password was empty. My .mac account was fine, but my other accounts all had the same empty sending password empty.
    Hope this helps.

  • Mail keeps asking for password for my imap yahoo account?

I have both a Rogers Yahoo and a Bell email account. The Rogers imap account keeps asking for my password however the password is correctly entered. Help!

There's a long thread on here somewhere about Yahoo constantly requesting the password. Seems to have been going on some time with no real conclusion.
However, I did see a mention somewhere else that a user managed to 'fix' the issue by changing his password so that it had no capital letters in it. Don't know whether this will help in your case, but maybe worth a shot if you pw has any cap letters.
If I can find the link I'll post back.

  • HT6114 my hot mail account will not let me access it keeps asking for password but won't authorise it?

my hotmail account will not open. keeps asking for password but will not accept the password when i enter it. its the correct passwrd?

    Hello Duncan,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with Mail on your Mac.  I recommend the following steps for the issue you described:
If you entered the correct password in the password dialog in Mail, but continue to be asked for your password, try these solutions.
Open Keychain Access, then locate and delete the mail account password item.
Open Disk Utility, select the volume (for your hard disk or disks) in the list, click First Aid, then Verify Disk. After you’ve verified (and repaired, if necessary) the disk, try sending yourself a message.

  • Just uploaded latest ios6 to ipad and iphone 4gs and the hotmail account keeps asking for a password then telling me it is invalid.  Any ideas?

Just uploaded latest ios to my ipad2 and iphone 4s and my hotmail account keeps asking for my password. When i input it, it tells me its wrong. Hotmail was working fine till ios upgrade. Any ideas? I have deleted account username and password and reinput but no difference

Try deleting the yahoo email account, and then recreate the account so you are sure all the information is now correct.  I have had email information get corrupted for unknown reasons and found just removing and recreating the account to resolve the issues most of the time.
Check the ports, incoming and outgoing, on your iDevices to be sure the same are used on the iMac.

  • Mail keeps asking for passwords; incoming server in iCloud is dimmed, not available

Mail on all accounts (iCloud, gmail and comcast) keeps asking for passwords; many Internet sites that used to be filled in from Safari are blank and require password. In Mail accounts, the incoming server for MobileMe/iCloud is dimmed. I can check mail on the Internet but it's kinda handy to have it delivered to the iMac. What's up?

Got the axect same problem. HELP!!! Using me.com still tho. But I want to use mail again!!!
    UPDATE!!!
Okay, it is working now. I removed my account in Mail and upgraded to iCloud. Now it is working.

  • Trying to buy, download a song and keeps asking for password over and over, even after entering correctly.  Why?, trying to buy, download a song and keeps asking for password over and over, even after entering correctly.  Why?

Trying to buy, download songs on iTunes and keeps asking for password for the account.  Entering the password correctly but it keeps asking for password.  Have downloaded hundreds of songs before, first time this has happend.  Why?
    Thanks.

    Hi, Trex8.
There are a couple things that you can try to resolve this issue.  First, I would recommend processing any updates needed to the computer and iTunes.  You can check for updates in iTunes by selecting the help menu and check for updates.  If iTunes is on the current version, see the article below.
iTunes repeatedly prompts to authorize computer to play iTunes Store purchases

Make sure to test the results after each troubleshooting step processed.

    Hi Gavin229,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
If you have changed your AppleID information or password, you will need to sign out of your existing iCloud or iTunes Store accounts and sign back in with the new information.
The articles below will explain this in more detail ...

  • Finder keeps asking for password verification

Finder keeps asking for password verification when I ask to move or delete a file.
How can I stop this from happening?
    Thanks in advance.

Repairing the permissions of a home folder in Lion is a complicated procedure. I don’t know of a simpler one that always works.
Launch the Terminal application by entering the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. If that doesn’t work, then in the Finder, press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
Drag or copy – do not type – the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    chmod -R -N ~
You may see a few error messages about an “invalid argument” while the command is running. You can ignore those. If you get an error message with the words “Permission denied,” enter this:
    sudo !!
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
Next, boot from your recovery partition by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the recovery desktop appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, enter “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A Reset Password window opens.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

  • I cannot retrieve my emails on my Mac Book Pro operating on 10.7.3 Icloud was already workingit keeps asking for password and when i put correct password in it keeps asking for it again and again. This has just started today

Though it's unlikely to be wrong if things were set up properly in the first place, as a check go to Mail Preferences>Accounts and check that the server setting for IMAP (incoming) is imap.mail.me.com (not just mail.me.com).
Your next step either way would be to go to System Preferences>iCloud and sign out, then sign back in again. (You can ignore warnings about data disappearing - your calendars etc. will disappear when you sign out but reappear when you sign back in).

One more time, iCloud mail accounts are .me, .mac and .icloud. New ones are only .icloud.
iCloud mail is a standard Imap account that can be used with any mail client in existence. But You are talking about the ability to automatically setup an iCloud account in mail, which did not exist until 10.7.2.
You can use password or token authentification with iCloud mail (in Mail) it is your choice.
Set the account manually, set it as Imap, use imap.mail.me.com (no P number) for the incoming email and smtp.mail.me.com as the outgoing server.
The full settings (ports and security) are here. Use them and it will work, regardless of domain (mac, me and icloud addresses all use the same settings.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
    Server name: imap.mail.me.com
    SSL Required: Yes
    Port: 993
Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
    Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
    SSL Required: Yes
    Port: 587
    SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    Password: Your iCloud password
Note: If you receive errors using SSL, try using TLS instead. SSL is required for both IMAP and SMTP connection with iCloud. POP is not supported by iCloud.
For more information on how to use this information with your email application, consult your application's documentation.
