Gmail - all messages vs new ones

I have a question about gmail with my new Z10.
For previous Blackberry devices (Curve, Torch, etc), when I set up my gmail to go to my phone, I only received new messages. Once I received messages, I could keep them on my phone or delete them from my phone, with any changes only affected my phone. For example, if I received an email, I received it on my phone, and in my gmail account. If I deleted it from my phone (ie. handheld), it stayed on my gmail account.
When I set up my Z10, I appear to have downloaded *all* of my gmail messages (lots of them!). This isn't what I prefer. And, if I delete a message from my phone, it also deletes from my gmail.
Ideally, I'd like to receive gmail on my phone, but have the ability to delete them, without affecting the messages in my gmail account (ie. the way it used to be with my previous devices). The way things stand now, I end up with hundreds of messages in my "Hub", when in reality, I only want to keep certain ones.
Did I set it up wrong? Or, is there no way of having messages appear as they did on previous devices?

You didn't do anything wrong...it's just that things are very different.
Prior to BB10, there was BIS, which functioned as an intermediary between your BB and your email server. BIS offered many functions, including rules as well as the "delete on" capability.
Now, with BB10, there is no BIS. Rather, it's on-device ActiveSync, which is designed to replicate your server mailbox (within the max time limits) to your Z10. So, delete on the BB, it deletes from the server, with the reverse also being true.
Some ActiveSync clients (on "other" platforms) still offer a "delete on" capability...but currently the BlackBerry ActiveSync implementation does not.
To keep the main Messages lists uncluttered, a work around would be to file messages away to a separate GMail folder/label (though, there is even a small but surmountable issue with that).

Why is TB re-syncing/re-load with GMail all messages each time I open TB?
It does slow down quite heavily. e.g. It takes almost 5 mins to just write a simple short email, since ''freezing'' at every 3-4 caracters.
All other programs on the computer work fine in the meantime, though. Including word processor. So it is really a TB issue.
Or is it a GMail issue, forcing download everytime a connection is created ?
I am on Win8.1 on an ASUS AiO.

IMAP mail accounts see a remote view of the server.
You subscribe to see server Folders.
Headers are downloaded and when you select to view an email, the emails are downloaded to a temp cache to enable quicker access to those emails, but upon exit Thunderbird the temp cache is lost, so you cannot read emails if offline. These emails are not stored on your computer.
If you synchronise subscribed folders, then a copy of the folder is downloaded to Thunderbird Profile folder and stored in an mbox file. This means you can read them even if offline.
However, the folder is set up to synchronise with the server when changes occur, so that your copy and the folder on the server are updated to be the same.
I would recomend that you do not allow folders to get too big as it would take longer to synch.

Can you see an 'All Mail' folder?
This is gmails copy of all your emails, so it is gmail Archive of your emails.
This folder can get huge. As it only shows you what you already have in other folders, it also doubles the size of your Profile and can take a while to download. It is recommended that you do not subscribe to see this folder.

BB and syncing IMAP show all messages as New

Hey,
I currently don't have a BB but there are about 5 BB (perls) in use in the office. We don't use the BB messaging server, the BBs just connect to the IMAP server through port 143 and get their email.
We are in the middle of changing over our server to a new server and started importing the messages. However, people are getting all the messages as new messages on their BBs even if the messages aren't new on their email accounts.
This is a huge huge problem as some uses have thousands of emails that the BB will indicate are new.
How can I fix this problem other then having the imported messages go to a seperate folder?

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
While I'm not an IMAP (or any other!!) expert, what you describe sounds like it's doing what would be expected. BB's don't retrieve email from your server -- rather, the BIS service, hosted at your carrier, does that and then pushes new stuff to the BB. Each email is tagged with a unique identifier, which I believe includes the server from which it came. Since you are importing the messages to your new server, BIS will interpret them as new messages for the end user and bring them to the BB via the new BIS conduit for the new email server.
What you might want to do is decide just what emails you want the users to have on their BB's. Then, you should wipe out the BIS conduits for the old email server. If you want the users to have all of the old emails, then what you are doing will accomplish that. But, if you don't want them to have the old emails, then you'd want to also remove the BIS conduit for the new server and only create it after you complete the import. BIS is configured to bring new messages to a BB starting at the time of activation for that email account -- so if it's not configured at the time you do the import, then BIS won't even try to bring those messages when you do later activate it for the new server.
Of course, before you start any of that, taking a full backup of the BB would be wise..one never knows...

After Accidentally Deleting SMS Converstation, all Messages from new conversation appear as new even if they 've been read.

I accidentally deleted the SMS converstions I had with my wife which goes back YEARS. I deleted the entire conversation which ***** but whatever.
My issue is that everytime she sends me a text, even while I'm physically looking at the new SMS conversations and messaging her in the new converstion, all texts from her appear as new in the SMS notification (Red Bubble Thing on top of the MESSAGES app). I also get the drop down notification when I'm physically on our converstaion (which usually only notifies me when there's a text when I'm physically not looking at the actual SMS conversation).
As of last night, Ive received 11 messages from her. Most of the time I have actually been in the process of replying to her when I receive another one of her texts. I get the drop down notification of a text from, I see what see wrote (because I was already replying to here yet the Message notification thingy appears as if I have 11 unread text.
I've tried turning the the phone off, I've done a hard restart,I've synced my phone to itunes, I ve checked for updates (I have the latest version) and I'm all out of ideas. Its just annoying but if anyone has any ideas, let me know.

Now, it's stuck on 11. Sent me new message and showed 12. Read the new one and went back to 11. So now I have 11 Read (unread) text meassages. 11 is the new 0

Mail reloads and show old/deleted messages as new ones

I have a MacBook Pro, 13-inch Retina, Late 2013. Current system is OS X Yosemite 10.10.2.
I have over a longer period of time experienced problem with my mail program. The application suddenly reloads old, both deleted and not deleted, messages as they were new once. This issue has been on older versions of Yosemite also. I use POP, and the mail is a hotmail account.

I have the same problem but with my iphone 3gs. After the new upgrade to 5.0.1 I realized that all of my old text messages disappear after every new one I receive. I just spoke to an engineer at Apple support and he said he will be calling me back in a few days, once their team finds out what the underlying issue with the software is, that is causing this. As soon as I hear back I will post the outcome. Until then, I suggest you all call and make it apparent to the support line, because when I told them the issue I was having they had no idea, and said it was good that I brought it to heir attention otherwise they hadn't heard about such a situation until now. Hope tha helps :-)

Inbox loses all messages older than one/two days

So, I'm the proud new owner of an iPhone, and while I'm generally very happy with it, I'm having some email troubles that I hope someone here might help me sort out.
The issue is that all the messages that come into my mailbox disappear after a day or two, which negates (at least for me) any advantage to having on-the-go email. My iPhone is set up to receive email from a POP account, and so far, I've had no problems receiving or sending mail - it's the not-deleting-emails-from-my-inbox issue that's giving me fits.
At first, I thought it might have something to do with the settings on the desktop computer (Mac Pro) which is also set up to receive emails from this account. The mail application on the desktop had been set to delete all messages from the server a week after the message had been retrieved. Given that the messages in my iphone are deleted from the iphone's inbox a day (at most two) after retrieving the message, I don't think this is an issue (in any case, i am under the impression that the iphone works like any other email application - once it retrieves a message, it is downloaded onto the device, correct? it doesn't just live on the server). In any event, to be on the safe side, I changed the Mac Pro's email settings to never delete messages from the server, but this hasn't affected my iphone's problem.
I've toyed around with the iphone's settings, but nowhere can I find a setting that addresses this specific problem. Anyone out there had the same trouble I'm having? If so, were you able to fix it? is it something I'm overlooking?

That is the correct spot, what is/was that option set to under deleted Messages? Try setting it to Never and see if that might change the emails behavior. If that is not the cause then it might be a issue with the Mail Application Software on the phone in your particular case and would need to restore the phone.
Another thing to try is to remove the email account on the phone then re-add the account and see if it is doing the same thing.

Receiving all messages including old ones from a JMS Topic

Hi all,
is there a way for a subscriber to receive all messages available in a Topic including the "old" ones?
By the "old" messages I mean messages written in the Topic before the subscriber really subscribes or messages created oven before the subcrieber exist.
What is the best solution for this? Are there any?

Hi Nelson,
Any mechanism for reprocessing messages is up to your JMS provider. If I may plug DropboxMQ, it has a simple but effective mechanism to do exactly as you wish. With DropboxMQ every messages is a file. Redelivery is as simple as moving messages from one directory to another. Here is the link:

1 go to email
2 click edit
3 choose one email
4 choose the mark button, but keep pushing the mark button
5 while holding down the mark button, uncheck that chosen email
6 release the mark button after a second or two
7 choose "mark as read'

Itunes library too large and won't recognize all files, just new ones but

still shows the old ones and their location in the library. I was keeping the library on the 2TB external drive. It got too large. Now I want to put the music on one of the 1TB drives and just the videos on the 2TB drive. From my PC, I can watch everything.
I cannot download to an iPod or iTouch anything from the 2TB drive. When I hit max capacity, I temporarily started saving on one of my internal 2TB drives (space wh*re, I know)before I hit on what my solution would be, and now I can only download from that location. Why?
What can I do? I even tried switching the library location back, and it won't recognize anything. I'm screwed, and I have all this material... YEARS of collecting...
Someone please help me...

To clarify, currently on the 2TB external drive are music and videos. I want to split them up and hopefully save some space - and maybe foresee problems in the future when I hit max capacity on the 1TB external, and think about a 4GB (not the best option I see at this time) or another 2 2TB drives.
Doesn't the Library file just save locations when iTunes closes down so everything should be OK? I mean, the prog can recognize everything, it just won't download to anything, even if I move from the external drive an older movie to the new drive, it refuses to "see" the movie so I can download it.

Mail inserts old messages into new ones

So I have been getting emails from people, everything from the sender to the subject line is right but then instead of getting that message, an old message from that inbox is put in its place and its very confusing. Then my phone decides that all the 2000 messages in that inbox on the server are new messages and tries to download them all at once to my phone.
Anyone have any ideas of how to stop this? I have a feeling its something to do with my email provider.

You can only restore Messages when restoring from a complete backup that contains those messages.

Console.app - All Messages contains only one day

Hi everyone,
My problem is the following: When I start Console.app the range of Messages displayed is: 2013-03-13 14:29:10 to 2013-03-13 22:24:07. So there are 4000 Entries from last month from exactly one day. All other logs are working perfectly the way they schuld but this one seems to be messed up.
What can I do to fix this?

Did some more "research": I just ran "syslog" in terminal.

So it looks like syslog is causing the problem because Cosole.app is taking it's data from there....

Multipule email accounts but all messages go into one account inbox

I have 2 email accounts set up on my iPhone, one is personal the other work.
the personal one is my primary account
however my work emails are going into my personal email inbox
this is a problem is when I reply to them it is using my personal email account as opposed to my work email address.

yes my default account is my home email address, it has been set, think I mentioned this in my OP.
yes I know there is a unified mailbox (All Inboxes) and I realise that you can use the the 2 accounts by selecting the one you wish to use.
as mentioned in my OP the issue is not sending mails but recieving mails, mails that are sent to my work accoutn are going into my home account in-box.

You should be syncing your contacts with an app on your computer or cloud service (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, etc), and not relying on a backup. If you haven't been doing this, start now and then restore your old backup. You will then be able to sync the new contacts back into the phone. However, you will lose all messages, etc newer thant the backup.

her contacts are connected directly with the Google Server so as long as they are saved to her Gmail account she should be 100% fine.. the only contacts she may lose are the ones that she added directly onto the phone and did not sync to her Gmail account.. so you should just double check with her on that
