Gmail and calendar..  sync vs on demand viewing..  calendar notification

I just picked up an iPhone 3G. I never used one before, and I'm definitely impressed.
One of the first things I tried, that was the new google mobile search app, and the sweet gmail and calendar access. http://www.google.com/mobile/apple/
I'm trying to decide if I should also setup my gmail and calendar to sync to the iphone mail and calendar apps... if that really adds much value.
The first issue that comes to mind is setting up calendar / appointment reminders. I chose the 200 text message 5 dollar SMS plan, so I'm thinking it would be a bad idea to have google's calendar texting my phone for each event reminder. Would be incredible if those notification found there way to the phone via the sweet 3G or edge or wifi data access... I remember apple saying they setup this incredible service to enable 3rd party apps to present that type of data without having background programs running, so I'm hoping google's calendar will be able to notify my iphone without the text messaging scheme soon.
anybody know if my notification wish is something anticipated? on the way? or am I being a bonehead, and I should be setting up some sort of synchronization to the apple calendar app?
the last bullet item here http://www.google.com/mobile/apple/calendar/
suggests it's already doable, but I'm guessing it's really only the text message scheme right now, and has to be "controlled" when logged in looking at the "non-mobile" version of the page.

# Set up mobile phone notifications.
As for gmail, I have the same curiosity...sure I could sync via IMAP to the local mail app, but again, google's web based gmail interface seems to have it beat right now.. landscape larger keyboard view and all sorts of other goodies I'm sure.
and wouldn't all that IMAP syncing and pushing be more battery intensive than just using google's mobile interface through safari to view the my calendar and mail on demand?
Definitely need those notifications delivered though (possible google? I hope I hope?)

No, You can 'integrate' them with your phone if you want.
Here's the choice, do you want to use iCloud for your Contacts and Calendars (on your phone as well as everything else) instead of Gmail, yes or no
If yes then download a copy of SmoothSync for Contacts and Smooth Sync for Calendars from the 'Play' Store and setup your iCloud account on your Android phone.

  • FF sync stops gmail and wordsmith sync & notifications on HTC sensation

When going through FFv12 options on the PC laptop last week I set up the pair a device and sync feature with my android phone. I expected or hoped to get my bookmarks tabs synced to the phone but it didn't happen. The FF app is not a patch on the Dolphin browser which I have learned to drive and like very much so I just put FF on the back burner as something to work on.
I noticed on the weekend away that my notifications for Wordsmith (much better than WWF) weren't happening and this morning found my emails were not syncing. Normally I can have the gmail app up on the phone and watch it echo deletions etc. done on the computer.
After going through all the sync settings on the phone I had to think so what's changed since it did work. The FF app of course. So I deleted, rebooted and it's all syncing properly again.
I'm using an HTC sensation. If anyone else could comment on the FF app causing a sync conflict on their phone I'd love to hear about it.
    Geoff.

    Hi,
Thanks for trying out Firefox for android. I'm sorry you had this problem. I've never heard of this happening before, so I suspect that rebooting your phone did the trick and that it had nothing to do with setting up bookmark, password, and history syncing with your desktop Firefox.
If you are willing to try it again and you have the same thing happen, we can file a bug about it to get engineering to look at it, since it shouldn't cause problems with any other sync services.
    Thank you!

  • How to remove calendar syncing with more than one calendar?

I have no idea how I did it, but my Blackberry Curve 8310 somehow synced with TWO calendars.  I always had it syncing with my Outlook one and that still works fine, but somehow it also synced to my Hotmail calendar somewhere along the way - but I haven't used that calendar in a very long time and don't even use my Hotmail account anymore, so it's just confusing everything.  I never meant to tell it to sync to that one and for the life of me I can't figure out how to get it to remove all that calendar info that it added!  Can someone help with instructions?  I'm fairly technically savvy, I just can't figure out how to do it on my own.

Do you want to remove the hotmail account all together? If so you can delete it from either your carrier's BIS page, or from the personal email setup icon on your device.
If you just want to remove the calendar try going to Options | Advanced Options | Service Book. Find your Hotmail account's CICAL service book and delete it

  • Icalendar keeps sending notification reminders for past events that have deleted. These were set up as reoccurring, but I no longer need. I have a mac which has my calendar synced. Also use google calendar. What do I need to do to fix this?

    PLEASE HELP

Doing that to hold an application to a desktop seems to work for me, but a more annoying problem is when I assign Mail to the far left desktop space and then then go full screen.  Mail is suddenly shoved to the far right desktop.  I gotta say, as a Unix admin that remembers the wonderful simplicity of OpenLook, this is really annoying.
And why can't I use a 2D grid anymore for my spaces?
Mission Control looks pretty, but it is a huge step backwards compared to what virtual desktop software could do 16 years ago.

  • Calendar and Contact sync

I recently boughta  new computer and it has Vista on it. I was able to download the software for my T5 and everything syncs fine except for my calendar and contacts. THey initially showed up correct when I first downloaded the software and performed a sync. Now when I make chages on either the desktop or handheld, the other does not change. I have tried different settings....handheld overrides desktop and visa versa. Anyone have an ideas or had the same problem and was able to correct it?
    Thanks

I have a similar problem; new Vista laptop won't synch Contacts although other applications are fine.

Any advice welcome; I have all the necessary authority and have tried updating to the 6.2.2 Desktop

  • IPod Touch Calendar sync with online google calendar?

Does anyone know if there are any plans of making the iPod Touch calendar sync with the online google calendar? I mean; the iPod have the ability to get gmail and it should be really good to have the same functionality with the calendar.
I've read about some 3'rd party software that do this for me, like a calendar gateway. It would be really nice if the iPod could do this by itself. Is it possible?

i asked a similar question yesterday for synchin google calendar and contacts via web/wifi without dock.
The response I got was to check out Re: problems synchin gmail contacts & calender to touch via web/wi-fi NuevaSync. It's free and it can sync the Calendars and Contacts.
Have not tried it yet myself but will do when I get 5. Let me know how you go...
    Good luck!

  • Calendar Sync with PocketPC compatible with Windows 7 (WMDC)?

Is Calendar Sync with PocketPC compatible with Windows 7 (WMDC)?

    More details welcome on this.
Oracle has at least 3 different Calendar Server Products and might be the same for a 'Calendar Sync'. Please provide the Calendar Server Version you would like
    to use.
On the other hand there exists a Outlook Connector for at least 2 Calendar Server Version's ( CS6.3 and CS7 aka CalDAV). The Outlook Connector has the limitation that it
won't work with Outlook 2010 yet (this feature is planed for future release of Outlook Connector).

  • IPad Air 2/iPhone 6 Calendar Sync

    Hello all,
I'm hoping someone can help; I have an iPad Air 2 and iPhone 6. My calendars don't seem to sync both ways. When I add events on my iPad, I can see them on my phone plus events I've added using my phone . However, on my iPad i only see events that I added using the calendar app on my iPad.
I'm sure it's a setting someplace but I haven't figured it out yet. Any ideas?

  • Gmail/Exchange email and calendar syncing issues

I have wiped my email accounts several times and entered in my data in the various ways as shown through the forums but my email accounts do no sync properly whether it is manual or active synced.
I read my emails in my gmail and my Microsoft exchange account and will delete or file them away but then when I check my accounts on my desktop, they are not synced as I've done so on my phone. I've also noticed that my calendars are not synced correctly either.
Could someone help me understand why and how these issues can be fixed? I'm in meetings for most of the day so I rely on my phone to keep me mobile. Was this a bad purchase?!?!

    Hi JadeyMU,
How do you have your Microsoft Exchange account configured on your BlackBerry Z10? Are you using ActiveSync, BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES), IMAP or POP?
    Thanks.

  • Calendar: iPhone calendar syncing between Gmail and Yahoo! Apple ID

Having a problem with sharing calendars between two iPhones (5C to 5S).
My wife shares her calendar with a business partner, and they both shared a calendar on their previous iPhones (both 4S).  When they up upgraded their phones to 5 (my wife has a 5C and her business partner has a 5S) and iOS 7, their calendar sharing changed.  Here's a quick description of the issue:
    - if my wife (with an @gmail.com Apple ID) creates an event on her phone and invites her friend, her friend (with an @yahoo.ca Apple ID) does not receive the invitation in the calendar inbox, but she receives an email in her yahoo.ca inbox.  If she tries to follow the link in the email to join the event, it opens a safari window and asks her friend to sign in to Google calendar, which never happened prior to the upgrades.  And she can't sign in and join because it's not supposed to be a Google calendar event.  Her not receiving the calendar invitations, and only getting them via email and not being able to add them without signing in to Google calendar is the main issue.  Why is she receiving emails instead of the calendar inbox invitations?
    - if my wife's business partner creates an event, it all works fine (my wife gets the invitation, can accept to join, and can see the events in her calendar on her phone.
I've tried several of the fixes for not being able to send and receive calendar invitations, and made sure receiving in-app notifications was turned on in iCloud on my end (currently waiting for business partner to confirm the same).
Prior to the upgrades, there was no issue with sharing.  I'm not sure if it's because all calendar sharing has to go through iCloud, which I am currently setting up on both phones (and may render this post moot).  Just wanted to know if anyone has experienced something similar with the receiving emails and not the inbox notifications.
    Thanks!

Are all the devices set to actually sync calendar entries to iCloud?  If any of them are set to sync with some other service (gMail, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.) while some of them are set to use iCloud then they can not sync.  Or if they are set to iCloud but only set to sync say contact and bookmarks then they will not sync.  They all have to be set to iCloud and they all have to have the calendar option selected.

  • Calendar and Contact Sync question

I have been playing around with my droid 2 global for about a month now and just decided to see if I could get the contacts in my phone synced to my gmail. I have a lot of phone numbers in my phone but are not in my gmail account. The question is can I send my contacts in my phone to my gmail account?  My assumption, just from what I have noticed, is that the droid 2 only has the ability to pull from the account not push to it. Is that a wrong assumption?
On to the calendar question. I have multiple calendars setup on my gmail account (mlb, nfl, college football, etc). For some reason the only calendar that syncs up is the US Holidays calendar. Is it possible to get the other calendars to sync with the droid calendar? If this is possible could someone please walk me through the process.
I have poked around on couple forums trying to solve these issue but have not seen anything addressing my questions, unless I have overlooked it.
    Thanks,

You are able to export your contacts and import them to your Gmail account. Below is a very good post that will provide you the steps to export the contacts using Backup Assistant and then import them to your Gmail account.
    http://community.vzw.com/t5/DROID-Incredible-by-HTC/export-contacts-to-gmail/m-p/285574/highlight/true#M12187
Please note, you must have Backup Assistant on your device to be able to export the contacts.
In regards to the calendar, you can view other calendars by following the steps listed below:
    1. Select the Calendar icon
    2. Select Menu
    3. Select More
    4. Select Calendars
    5. Select the calendars that you want to display

  • Multiple Exchange and other Accounts - Can Calendars Sync Individually?

I currently sync mail with my iPhone 3G (4.2.1) with two Exchange Servers, gmail, hotmail, gmx, AOL and Yahoo!. I maintain real calendars on both Exchange Servers (but not on the other accounts). Don't know whether it's relevant, but the two Exchange Servers sync via EAS, and they're on different domains. I sync calendars only with one of the Exchange accounts.
I need to - ideally - sync calendars with both Exchange Servers such that my iPhone has all my information, but I don't want calendar info from one Exchange Server to appear on the other one's calendar. I can live with inputting all calendar data into one server or the other (i.e., not entering any calendar data directly on the iPhone), but I'm afraid that once I add the second Exchange account's calendar to the iPhone, all my appointments will appear in both Exchange Servers' calendars.
    Will this work?? Thanks!

The PlayBook does not "sync" email locally to the device - this is one of the selling points to the corporate world.
When you bridge the PlayBook to a Blackberry it pulls the information from the Blackberry in real time, as soon as the Blackberry is disconnected the information disappears from the Playbook so you shouldnt have any issue bridging two blackberrys,
