@gmail and @icloud help?

Okay so I don't know if it's like this for everyone but for example on my iPhone 5s, Settings > iCloud > Account, I have my email address [email protected] and the Mail is [email protected] ... I'm wondering why my gmail domain is listed as the Apple ID and the @icloud is just as Mail. Is there anyway to change this so @icloud is the primary one??

That's normal.  Your Gmail address is your iCloud ID and your @icloud.com address is your iCloud email account.  It cannot be used as your iCloud ID.  In addition to being your iCloud email address, your @icloud.com address is also an alias for your iCloud ID.  You can use it interchangeably with your Gmail ID to sign into icloud.com.

  • Syncing with gmail and iCloud across 3 devices

I cannot get my devices to sync properly (MacBook, iPad mini, iPhone 5c).  I use Gmail and iCloud, and it seems to muddy the waters.  My contacts, for example, are a mess.  As someone who is normally on top of the tech stuff, I feel confused and very frustrated.  Is it time to get rid of Gmail?  Do I need to wipe my data and start fresh?  For some reason there just seem to be too many settings to get everything to work seamlessly.  If anyone has faced similar issues please let me know if you have any solutions--whether it is a step by step process, or visit or the Genius Bar...
    Thanks!

iCloud doesn't sync email; changing your iCloud settings won't effect your ability to sync email.  Just set up the same Gmail account on all your devices.  Unless you set it up as a POP account, it will stay in sync across your devices.  (Only IMAP and Exchange accounts sync across your devices; POP email doesn't.)

  • HT203808 Help! gmail and icloud are fighting on my MacBookPro and iPhone!

I have an old pre-iCloud account that uses the usual icloud.com email address. I also have another iCloud account that is the main one--the one where I pay for extra storage and all that stuff--and this main icloud account is identified by my gmail.com address. All was harmony until about 2 days ago, when I suddenly began getting demands to enter my password, followed by the error message that it was the wrong password. I've spent hours with patient Apple techs on the phone, and the problem seems solved for about 10 minutes, then the same thing begins happening. I'm having my own personal Groundhog's Day on April Fools Day, and I am  not fooling about that. It's made worse by the fact that it is also my birthday, and dealing with IT issues is not my idea of a fun birthday. So, wah! Anybody have thoughts?

You might want to reflect that in your profile. Could you also explain what part this old account plays in your problem. Have you simply tried signing out of your account and then back in again.

  • Gmail and iCloud calendars seem incompatible

I am experiencing two issues with calendars on my new iPad (3rd gen) related to GMail. I have spoken with Level 2 support (so far, no luck in solving this problem), and have scoured these support pages ... several possible solutions do not appear to be working. So alas, I'll ask the question and hope for some insights.
ISSUE 1: Cannot add invitees when creating calendar entries on a Google Calendar
On my iPad, I have 3 calendars set up ... default iCloud calendar + two Google calendars. All three synch perfectly between my iPad and other devices. However, if I create a new event on my iPad, there is no option to add invitees to an event created on my Google calendars ... neither my primary calendar or the secondary calendar I share with my family. I can, however, add invitees to a new event created with my iCloud calendar. However, there seems to be an issue with this as well....
ISSUE 2: Invitations from iCloud calendar are not sending
Again, from my iPad, when I add any user's email address to receive invitations from my iCloud calendar, the invites do not appear to be going out.... at least not to any of my email addresses or my wife's email address. When I attempt to send an invite to my Gmail account, my name simply disappears after a few seconds (my gmail account is my iCloud account / Apple ID). When I send an invite to my office email address, the name does not disappear, but I receive no invitation at work.  So basically, I can't send invites from my iPad.... period.
    A few facts...
My Gmail email address is my Apple ID.
Many of my friends' and colleagues' email addresses are either their Apple ID's or alternative email addresses (I saw several posts about "bugs" with iCloud relating to auto-forwarding of calendar invites to iCloud for addresses that are associated with Apple IDs).
I have turned OFF the default setting in iCloud calendar to automatically forward invites to my iCloud calendar (pursuant to another post on this subject)
I used to use a different email address (Yahoo) for my Apple ID. At that time, I could send invitations using my Google calendar with no issues. This problem only started to occur when I switched my Apple ID to my Gmail account, which I prefer as it enables seamless synching of contacts.
I am all ears ... willing to try almost anything. Help is appreciated.
    Thanks.
    - David

Why do you need them in iCloud? You can use Google as the point of sync instead on all your devices.

  • HT4910 Mixed Contacts and iCloud - Help!

Help! My husband and I updated our phones and now our contacts are mixed.  Not sure I'm liking this iCloud.  Can anyone help? Support talks about duplicates, but not mixing. TY!

First, you two should have different IDs for icloud if you currently don't.  If one of you turned off icloud syncing of contacts while having the device connected to the other's icloud account, then you probably were told that this would delete the data on the device and would you like to merge the icloud contacts with those currently on the device (which may have included the other set of contacts).  If you said yes, then the two sets of contacts were merged.  If you both now have your own IDs set for icloud, then go through the contacts and delete those you don't want.  Once they are merged (mixed), there's no easy way to clean up the mess.

  • Why would My Mac quit recognizing my gmail and iCloud accounts

Spontaneously my Mac quit recognizing my two gmail accounts, my iCloud account, and my email through a local cable company. They still appear in my preferences, and show up when I go to my favorite boxes; but, the icon in the Dock will not close, and no mail is sent or received.  I uninstalled all four accounts and reinstalled them to no avail.

UPDATE: I went through customer support, and the answer was too simple.  I disconnected modem and router and reconnected them.  The mail had been the only thing previously having problems, and this fixed the problem.

  • Apple ID's, iPad and iCloud HELP Please

My ipad2 is set up for iCloud using my original apple id.  My mac has used my me.com email address to create an addional apple id which seems to have been assigned to the cloud account on my mac.  I therefore cant sync anything between them.

    Thanks for the answer !
It is the case of the snake eating his own tail. If I use iforgot.apple.com, I can't use the iCloud ID that's on the iPad. If I enter the iCloud ID used on the iPad, on the page https://iforgot.apple.com/appleid, it will return it returns Select your authentification methode. On that page I have two options -> Email authentication: or Answer security questions:
I don't use the option Answer security, because my brother in law, doesen't remember the questions.
If I use the first option, the server sends an email to the email address that no longer exist and that is not the iCloud ID addresses database.

  • Email,Gmail, and Icloud Set Up

How to set up email, gmail addresses with my icloud account?

This website should give you instructions how to change your Apple ID email address: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5621

  • Gmail and Icloud backup

I have a gmail account. How can I use my icloud account to backup that email to icloud?

Set your GMail account to forward all incoming emails to your iCloud account. (You should probably set it to retain the messages at GMail as well).
You may be able to set up a Rule separating them into a different folder, depending on whether they show as being addressed to GMail or to iCloud, you will have to experiment on that one.

  • Mail and GMail and Filters?!

i am realizing i don't understand something. i use mail on my laptop, desktop and iphone using IMAP. i have a GMail and many, many other accounts.
in order to retain mail but not have it clog up IMAP, i DOWNLOAD this mail by /moving/ it to the ON MY MAC section of my desktop machine. so this mail shows up in FOLDERS under "ON MY MAC". so my understanding is that this mail is no longer on IMAP and instead it is in Mail basically residing on my hard drive somewhere.
so now i want to /organize/ some of my mail and to /filter/ some incoming mail. so now i am noticing that i have set up some FOLDERS that are listed under the portion of my GMAIL account that shows up UNDER the ON MY MAC area. i mean, it is not /nested/ under this listing but it does show up under this listing along with all my other accounts. under each of these accounts is listed a series of folders which includes in all cases one titled "Mail".
ALSO, i have a series of FOLDERS that i set up under my GMAIL account that are listed down here with the intention of using these to FILTER incoming mail into my GMail account. the reason i did this is that i am not seeing a way to see this
i am wondering a couple of things.
    1. am i correct in thinking that the mail that goes into the GMail account is basically a IMAP folder that can be seen on all my devices? and if so, can i set up one of these in ANY of my IMAP accounts simply by creating a folder in this account? if so, is there a good reason to create one of these folders in my GMAIL account as opposed to one of these other accounts? i mean, for some reason at one point i was thinking that it was necessary to create these folders in GMail (or that there was some benefit to doing it this way) but now i am not so sure.
    2. if i set up a FILTER in Mac Mail how does this work? i mean, if i set one up on my desktop machine does Mac Mail need to be on for the filter to take effect? i see one listed on my desktop and it is not listed on my laptop so it must be machine specific.
    3. if i want to start FILTERING Mail can i do this by just using Rules in Mac on my desktop?
    4. anyone out there sent all their Mail to Google and let google handle all of this?
    5. do Mail rules/filters have problems?
i don't want to spend a ton more time trying to fix something if it is broke but at the same time i don't want to have my inbox as messy as it looks right now.
    THANKS

Q.1 part 1: Gmail isn't really IMAP, but it can act more or less like it. (One way that Gmail isn't really IMAP is that oneGmail message can have multiple tags, which makes it look like it is in multiple IMAP folders. Another is that every Gmail message is in a special All Mail "folder" in addition to any tag "folder(s)."
Q.1 part 2: Yes, you should be able to set up folders in any IMAP account.
Q.1 part 3: One possible reason to use Gmail for this is that Gmail storage quotas are higher than for many other free accounts.
Related point: Another approach is to spread out your folders among several servers, either to expand the total quota or for functional reasons.
Q.2: Yes, the Mail application must be running and fetching mail for its filters to be active. Yes, filters are machine-specific, but they can interact. Whichever machine happens to notice a new message in its inbox first will start trying to match the message to its filters. If another machine then notices the same new message in the inbox before the first machine moves it out, it will also try to match the message to its filters. If two filters on different machines try to move the same message, whether to the same folder or different folders, the results are ill-defined. I have observed one message appearing twice after filtering. This is called a "race condition."
Q.3:  Yes, you can start by defining filters on your desktop machine.
Related point: Some mail service providers let you run filters on incoming mail before the mail ever hits your inbox. This would eliminate the possibility of a race condition, since none of your clients would ever see those messages in the inbox. A limitation of this feature is that server-based filters are usually limited to moving mail from that server's inbox to another folder on the same server. Gmail and iCloud offer server filters, as do many but not all IMAP-based mail services.
Q.4: Probably somebody has, but I have not.
Q.5: Other than the possibility of a race condition as described above, Mail filters (called "rules") have limitations in what you can search for and the complexity of the condition allowed. Some server-based filters are capable of more, some are more restricted.

  • Issues between mac mail and iCloud

    iMac mid-2011 2.7 i5 10.8.2
Approximately one week ago the application Mail began displaying the "Welcome to Mail" window prompting me for Full Name, Email Address and Password. Prior to this, my me.com and icloud.com emails were working with the application well.
At the same time, my finder began prompting for administrative password to alter (delete) any documents contained within the finder window.
Fearing that my ymail.com email was somehow attempting to connect to my mail application on the mac, I have since activated a gmail account and changed all programs, websites, profiles and information to the new gmail address, thereby removing my ymail.com address (it does not sync with the mail application unless one pays $20/year for premium services, which I do not.)
I have changed my email information through apple's "manage your ID" webpage.
I have signed out of the app store, itunes, and the mac's icloud and signed in again. The mail application still displays this window.
I have attempted to add my icloud account to iphoto and mail's preferences.  The information activates and my emails begin to download.  After a few minutes, all of the emails vanish with all signs of my gmail, and icloud email accounts.
I have also used the "get info" function to delete and add my permissions to include read and write.  I have applied the changes.  We have two user accounts on the same imac, both with administrative permissions.
I did not change any settings, download any applications, or updates, except for the ios 6 update for my phone on Monday 2-4.  I had plugged the phone in to complete a sync several days ago.
I am currently at a loss.  All applications and devices were working well prior to last week. If more information or clarification is necassary, I will do my best. This has been an extremely exhausting week researching what is going on to no avail. I do not understand why my computer is suddenly falling apart.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Does anyone know about the privacy policies regarding Notes written on iphone? What about if they are synced with Gmail and get sent to All Mail folder?

I recently found all of my notes (written on my iphone) in my All Mail folder (of my gmail). I think this is because I had selected that my Notes by synced with my Gmail (under Gmail account settings). So I experimented by unsyncing it, then wrote a few more notes, and they stopped appearing in my Gmail All Mail folder. Then, to check, I re-synced it, and wrote some more notes, and they still have not shown up in my All Mail folder. I am freaked out about the unreliability of the systems regarding my personal notes I wrote to myself--both about personal things and to do lists... The fact that it is SO iffy and unclear (Where the notes go and why, where else they may have ended up), is super frustrating to me. What are Apple's privacy policies? Icloud's privacy policies? Gmail's privacy policies? Ergh.
-Frustrated by unreliability and lack of clarity pertaining to personal documents and where they go and where they are stored (even after deletion).

If you go to settings , notes , you can switch we're you want them to go for default. But both your gmail and iCloud have password protection so unless you give someone your password I'm positive nobody can see them. You should also have if you don't already a password on your iPhone to unlock it. Good luck
