Gmail and Mail app

I'm coming from a Windows 7 machine and Outlook.  Gmail is my primary email.  Here are my questions:
1.  How do I access other mailboxes other than 'inbox' and 'trash'?
2.  I have custom filters set up in gmail to keep certain emails out of my inbox.  They are ending up in my Mac email inbox anyway.
3.  Some of my sent emails are being copied to my inbox.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Charles
Here are the complete instructions for setting Gmail with Apple mail app. Hope this helps!

  • Problems with Gmail and Mail App

Up until now, my gmail account (with 2 step log-in) has worked fine on my iPhone.
Today - when refreshing mail, I got a pop-up saying that the username and password were incorrect and mail couldn't be retrieved from the imap server at Google.  So...I went to my account settings on google - revoked the existing application specific password for my iPhone mail and then generated a new one.  When I entered it on the settings screen on my iPhone, I got the same message - u/p incorrect!
I deleted my gmail account and started over...same thing!!
Now, I have no access to mail and I can't figure out what to try next!
    Anyone got any ideas?? Thanks!

Well...after entering 6 different app-specific passwords and performing 3 separate reboots...mail is back up and running.  Next time I'll probably try putting my right foot in the air and spinning around in my chair 3.5 times...stupid Google!

  • Gmail and Mail.app outgoing server

I can receive mails from Gmail in the Mail application...but I can't seem to send them.
I've configured the outgoing server as smtp.gmail.com-- is this incorrect?
Help is, as always, greatly appreciated.
    Jonathan

Most likely you will need to use the outgoing (SMTP) mail server of your ISP. If Google is your mail ISP, then to to their site and find out the correct address of their outgoing mail server and how you configure your mail application correctly. You may need to change a port number and/or configure how you authenticate to the outgoing mail server.

  • Backup Gmail using Mail.app and IMAP

I would like to backup my Gmail emails using Apple Mail. I have IMAP turned on in Gmail. I know I need to add the account in Mail but I'm not sure what to do after that. I'm thinking I need to create a local mail folder in order to store the emails.
Also, how could I automate this? Is Mail the best option for this scenario? Again, I'm only wanting this as a backup for Gmail.

How about avoiding redundancy (http://superuser.com/questions/114253/backup-gmail-using-mail-app-and-imap-witho ut-redundancy)?
I got this all working, there's even this literally great guide on my superuser post (http://db.tidbits.com/article/10253) but IMAP generates a lot of repeated files due to gmail labels nature.
Anyone knows a way to circle around this and still be able to use IMAP and labels with mail.app and gmail?

  • Very very slow to download gmail in mail APP iPad

As I wrote in the title, in the last days, from when I updated iOS 7.04, I've some problem with the mail app in iPad 3rd gen.
With the account gmail: it's very very very slow to download the emails.
First of all, I reset the iPad, but nothing.
So, I deleted the gmail account and set up it again... but nothing.
So, what's the problem: Gmail? Mail APP in iOS 7.04? Both? And how can I resolved it?
Thank you very much for yours replay. Best regards.

  • Godaddy and mail.app

    hello,
i've been having some troubles for a while and looking for any magical advice. i have a hosting/email package with godaddy that i'm happy with except their outgoing mail server which never works reliably for me (hit or miss). i have tried all i know how (call in support, all the various ports, etc.) and never resolved it. i have tried to use my local isp servers and they're not much better. as a note gmail is very reliable for me so i can have accounts that work well. is there any known issue between godaddy and mail.app or any other info someone might have that can help me? i'm not located in the us if it helps. if the answer is godaddy's outgoing servers are not good which i have heard does anyone have a recommended option? i need to use my own domain and not a gmail account and anyways i don't particularly like the way gmail works but their reliability i can't complain. i'm thinking also there might be some kind of outgoing server i can sign up for even pay if it will work with my godaddy mailboxes. any thoughts and thanks so much,
    rick

thanks for the replies. yes that seems to work the best but unfortunately in my case not quite good enough. i was never able to fully resolve the issue even after much help from godaddy. all i could do was switch my outgoing server to someone else. but i will gladly try it again one day hoping it might work a bit better for me.
    thanks,
    rick

  • App store and Mail app are crashing in my mac air 10.9.5

All my apps are crashing and i am not able to open any of them . App store for Software update and Mail app, Photos app are all crashing. I have OS X 10.9.5 in my system. I removed Parallels trail version and also Clean My Mac app, Still i have the issue,Please help me to resolve the issue,

"CleanMyMac" purports to "clean up" "junk" files. What it really does is to corrupt the operating system and many applications.
The first thing you need to do is remove that software according to the developer's instructions. Never install it, or anything like it, again. Then see below.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.

  • Will a more powerful processor increase my GMail and Google Apps speed??

Will a more powerful processor increase my GMail and Google Apps speed??

I take it that you know the processor in the iMac G4 is not upgradeable. It's soldered to the logic board. The 20" iMac G4 had the fastest process of any G4 iMac--1.25Ghz-- so you're maxed out there.
Do "About the Mac.." from the the Apple menu to see how much RAM is installed. Sluggishness can be due to too little RAM.
Sluggish performance can be a too full hard drive. Single click your hard drive's icon then do command i to see the values of Capacity, Available, and Used. the space Available should be no less than 10-15 percent of the vaule under Capacity.
For comparison, I have a G4 tower with a single 1.25Ghz processor and the same bus speed and video RAM you have, and it is not at all sluggish with anything other than Office 2008, which is sluggish all by itself. My G4 has 1.75G RAM and a bunch of free space on the hard drive.

  • Exchange and mail.app

Has anyone had this issue with a MS Exchange server? On a Mac I am able to send mail out to any email address using Outlook Web Access but using the same exchange server with a POP account and Mail.app I cannot send mail outside the school district(@af.k12.wi.us). When I try, I get "The message could not be appended to the Outbox".
Is this a problem with the Exchange server setup or Mail.app account? How do I fix it?

We also use Intermedia.net and I've yet to get mail.app and Exchange to work together. The KB and support offer very little more than what you see posted here already. The "Mail for Mac OSX" are not even close to being accurate for our dedicated hosting plan (we don't have mail.domain.com type names).
Mail.app doesn't give you much to go on either... I plug in the information and it just never connects or never goes online. If I open up the Activity window I see it try and connect but then just drops the connection. No failed password or other error message.
Anyone else have any experience with Intermedia or success with Exchange?

  • HT201210 safari and mail apps will not open

Hello, after I updated to 6.1.3 on my iphone 4 everything worked fine, till I rebooted my phone, now all of a sudden my safari and mail apps do not work. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? Everytime I try and restore my iphone i get: The phone "Justin's Phone" could not be restored. This device isnt eligilbe for the requested build. I even reverted to my last saved back up (this back up was on June 13) and a back up from december 2012 and the safari and mail app still do not work. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you all for your help,
    Justin

    Hello Justin,
I would recommend taking a look at steps 4 and 5 in the article below.
iOS: Troubleshooting applications purchased from the App Store

If your issues persist, then you may need to restore the iOS software.

  • Safari, Software Update and Mail apps won't connect

Safari, Software Update and Mail apps won't connect to the Internet. Software Update fails with a suggestion of running Network Diagnostic. Network diagnostic says everything is fine. Firefox connects without any problems. Any ideas. This is my work computer and I need it to work.
    Chris

Fixed it myself. Under network settings "Auto Proxy Discovery" was enabled. When I turned this off everything started working again. Not sure how this was enabled in the first place.

  • Ipad 4 after update to IO8 Safari and Mail App would not start

I have updated my Apple Ipad 4 to IOS8.
    Modell MD510FD/A
After this update Safari and Mail App do not start. It open the app a short time and closed by itself.
I have restarted the Ipad for 3 times. But the problem still happen.

    Hi t.reiterer,
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Since these are native apps that come with the OS, it sounds like a reinstall is in order.  A full backup first, then restore.
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If a regular restore doesn't help.  Try a restore as new.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings
Again, make sure you have a good backup first.
    Best Regards,
    Nubz
