Gmail and other IMAP, smart mailbox for inboxes

Hello,
I have Mavericks, use Mail.app, including 4 active email accounts. I have a smart mailbox that includes any message from 3 of the 4 account inboxes, and I've been using this setup since Snow Leopard. After upgrading to Mavericks, this smart mailbox no longer works properly.
So 2 of the 3 mailboxes included in the smart mailbox are gmail, the third is non-gmail IMAP. The smart mailbox does include the correct messages from all three inboxes together, but it lists the gmail boxes as being from archive (AKA All Mail) instead of Inbox. Apparently Mail.app is doing a message matching between those emails, and preferring the "all mail" version over the inbox version. This didn't seem to be more than an annoyance at first, until I discovered that I can't archive emails from the smart mailbox: I have to go directly to the inbox to archive them, because calling "archive" on an "all mail" message is a No-op.
I beleive this problem is not specific to smart mailboxes, because it happens on search results as well. So
Select gmail inbox
search for a sender in that mailbox only
select some of those messages
click "archive"
The effect is that the messages will disappaer from the current search result, but as soon as I dismiss the search I can see the messages are still in the inbox.
Clearly the enhanced gmail integration was done hastily here.
I don't know if there is a workaround here. Apple must fix!

Oh, and there was one other issue I forgot to mention. When I used this arrangement before Mavericks, the smart mailbox pointing at my inboxes would "live update", so if new mail was received in an inbox and I was looking at the smart mailbox, it would update immediately. This functionality is no longer there.

I tried to create a smart mailbox for all the mails which doesn't appear in any other smart mailbox.
I know that I can tell my smart mailbox not to look for mails who are in the inbox or the other default-boxes of the mail program.
But how can I choose a smart Mailbox instead???

Create a smart mailbox for one one specific email account?

It has been a long time since I've been in these forums, I have to update my computer model, ha!
Anyway, I notice that when I create a smart mailbox, the specific instructions pertain to both my .Mac account and my gmail account which are set up in the Mail application. I would like to make the smart mailbox rules only apply to the gmail account, but I can not find a way to do this. Is this possible?
I would also like to only include messages from my gmail inbox in my smart mailbox, instead of sent messages etc.

you can't combine AND and OR conditions is a smart mailbox. I really don't know why. it's a big oversight IMO. you can do it in finder smart folders. you can try something weird like making one smart mailbox which satisfies the conditions you wnat about matching words . then make another smart mailbox with the condition that a message is in the first smart mailbox AND in gmail inbox.

Smart mailbox for Unread messages doesn't update automatically.

Hello everyone.
I've set up a smart mailbox in Mail to show only my unread messages. But, it doesn't update automatically in that when I read a message, that message remains visible in the list until I leave and then return to the "Unread Messages" smart mailbox.
Any thoughts as to how I can get it to update automatically?

Thanks for the note, Jeffrey and trust me when I say I'm a die-hard Apple believer. But, at work I support Windows machines and Outlook has views to show only unread messages. As soon as a messages is read and we move on to the next messages, the read message drops out of the list. This is what I'm look for so that I can apply it to the few Macs I also support at work.
What Apple's Mail gives us is good, but what we were hoping was to have the smart mailbox work the same way that Outlook's feature does. However, I still much prefer working with Mail rather than with Outlook. So, we will adjust.

Mail stopped recognizing my gmail and other, non-iCloud, accounts. Anyone else have this problem? No issue with the same software installed on my MacBook Air.

Mid morning, before Christmas, my iMac stopped downloading all mail from gmail and my personal domain. Only the me.com account is still functioning. Thankfully I am able to access my mail on my MacBook Air but would like to get the problem resolved on my main computer. Has anyone else had this problem?

Can you loginto gMail's Webmail in a browser using the same login credentials?
In Mail's Window Menu, choose Connection Doctor, any red dots for status, if so what is the message?
Then click the Show Details button & Check again.
Gmail send but not receive...
Here are two steps that have come in handy in related situations
1) login to gmail on your computer or device via a web browser
2) once logged in successfully, go to this URL to unlock:
https://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptch
The Password rejection can confuse people since it's a catch all meaning...
This Password, Username, Authentication method... is not recognized on this Port to this Server, or a server end problem.
If using a browser to login via WebMail works it's not Name or Password, but one of the other ones.
The receiving email ports are:
IMAP is port 143
IMAP-SSL is port 993
POP is port 110
POP-SSL is port 995
Outgoing ports are...
SMTP and SMTP-SSL is on ports 25, 587 and 465. Port 587 has to be SSL, and port 465 is enforced TLS-wrapped and is generally used by Outlook users.

Smart mailbox for addresses NOT in my address book?

I want a smart mailbox that only contains emails from addresses that aren't in my address book. It doesn't seem possible with the options in the dialog box, unless I'm missing something really obvious.

I just discovered I can do this through the Junk section of Preferences. Click "Advanced" and you can create a filter specifically for 'Sender not in my address book'.

How can i stop gmail and email messages sent to my inbox to go to my apple email?

everytime i receive a message in my inboxes it apperas on my apple email account a few minutes later.
is there any way to stop this from happening?
what if for instance an email with a virus is sent to my account?

As my image is in Portuguese-BR, let my try to explain... You need to click on the icon next to iCloud icon. can you see that? that blue ball between iCloud and Rede (network, in English)
I guess opening there you'll can disable hotmail and Gmail, watch the next image, these are the preferences on of Mail, Contacts...:
Now, in this window you need to search for your Gmail and Hotmail accounts, just select them (as in my case I have th Gmail one selected) and click on the minus, that is next to the plus signal, down in the same window.
I can assure you Apple support is the best you'll find, I don't know what it happened to you, but they're the best.
Don't be worried about it, you bought the best device in the world, it just take a time till we now exactly how to use it

RSS Feeds and a Today Smart Mailbox

How can I have posts from RSS feeds I am subscribed to Not show up in a Today Smart Mailbox?
I tried to add a condition to the smart mailbox but I don't see parameters that would cover not showing the feed posts.

This has three episodes, all of which play in the Store and the two I checked downloaded on subscribing.
Your feed at http://feeds.feedburner.com/drunkdnd has four episodes; it can be subscribed to manually in the Store and the episodes download OK, so I'm not sure what the problem is. However this feed uses different episode media URLs; they are hosted on archive.org and are using https rather than http, and although the iTunes application handles them when subscribing it's possible that the Store itself is baulking at them. It would be better if you could provide a direct http URL to the files.
If you want to move the Store from using the soundcloud feed to the feedburner one you will need to add an 'itunes:new-feed-url' tag to the old feed, containing the URL of the new feed. The process is decribed in detail here:

Smart Mailbox Folders and To Do Smart Mailboxes

I cannot move smart mailboxes to a smart mailbox folder if the logic for the smart mailbox is for a ToDo search. If I create a smart mailbox with a message search I can move it into a folder then change it to a ToDo search.
The smart mailbox stays in the folder for a bit then disappears.
Has anybody else found this, am I just doing something silly?

Smart Mailbox for Meeting Invitations

Hi,
I recently switched to a MacBook Pro after many years of using Windows (don't know why I waited so long...). I'm using Apple Mail and iCal and am really happy with them, but would like to create a smart mailbox that contains meeting invitations. I've looked at all of the filter options to create that mailbox and can't figure out if or how it can be done.
Has anyone done this before?

Firefox 4 on XP hangs on gmail (and other sites) when flash is installed

Firefox 4 hangs for about 30 to 45 seconds when logging into gmail and some other sites. The problem goes away when flash is uninstalled. This sounds similar to the problem:

I recently bought a 9-cell/70++ replacement battery for my 4318 W510, so I'm trying to confirm that it's proper for the system and a legitimate Lenovo product. I don't see any obvious errors, but I can only find one Lenovo document (an environmental waste form) that matches the various P/Ns that I see -- reassuring, but because I'm both cautious and curious, I'm hoping to learn more about all of the different numbers that appear on the box, the battery proper, and in the power manager. However, the directions it provided on NOT placing the .htaccess file in public_html was incorrect in my case. It was not until I uploaded the file to the main directory AND public_html was the problem fixed.

Macscan, Norton, and other Anvirus/Antispyware programs for MBP

I recently got macscan for my macbook pro but after reading some reviews it didnt seem like i needed it. Is macscan necessary for my mac? What about norton and other antivirus software?

The fact is that there are no currently active malware threats that act on Mac OS X. Therefore, currently, there is no use for software that aims to protect you from malware. I have never run any sort of anti-virus or anti-malware application on any of my Macs because there simply has been no need to as of yet. That said, most of us are aware that the day may come sometime in the future when there is an active threat posed against Mac OS X. If (when) that day comes, I will buy anti-malware software at that time. Until then, use and enjoy the machine! Computing without anti-everything scanners running in the background all the time sapping your CPU cycles is much more enjoyable and faster!
In short:
Is macscan necessary for my mac? What about norton and other antivirus software?
No, not right now. And definitely no to Norton anything. Norton products have never (well, not since the mid-90s maybe) been friendly to Macs. I have never had a good experience with a Norton product on OS X.

Are we ever going to see this (and other mobile apps) available for Android?

I'm starting to get pretty upset about this. I've been a proponent of Adobe CC since it started, as the licensing and payment model works great for small businesses like mine. However, I feel like I'm not part of the CC group now as more and more mobile apps are launched that we cannot access. Surely there's a huge portion of Adobe CC users who don't use Apple products, but still work on the road and want to work with clients in their offices, etc, etc.
Calling all non-Apple users... please can we apply some pressure as a group and get Adobe to make some sort of effort on this front?

Or how about the other 90% of businesses working on Windows? When will this be available for Windows? (2-in-1s, Surface Pro 3, etc.)
Please, stop with the Apple bias, Adobe! I'm never going to realistically use Comp CC, Photoshop or Illustrator on something that has only 1GB of RAM, a cutesy single-core mobile device processor (vs. the i7 in the Surface Pro 3), that can't print to the HP color laser jet sitting next to me, that can't multi-task between programs and that forces you to use a squishy, hide-the-pen-tip, rubber-tipped stylus. It's like choosing your teenage daughter's tablet to do demanding, professional work. Square peg, round hole.
