Gmail... cannot send mail through mac

i also have two other accounts using my mail, and when i go to send an email, i am only allowed to select between those two accounts. the gmail appears no where. i can receive email, and have followed the directions exactly as to how to set up the outgoing server. can anyone help please!!! thanks

If you've followed the directions to setup your account, then it should work, so I suspect you've made some mistake, however small. When did this problem first start?
In Mail->Preferences, you should have an Account Name for this Gmail account on the left side of that window; if not, then you can't send or receive using your Gmail account from Mail. If you don't have one, click on the + sign to create a new one and then follow the directions that Gmail gives on their web site.
If you have an account for your Gmail address already listed, your Outgoing Mail Server settings should be:
Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.gmail.com
Server port: 587
Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): check the box
Authentication: Password
User Name: <your email [email protected]>
Password: Enter your Gmail password
Click on OK.
Under the Advanced tab:
Enable this account: check the box
Include when automatically checking for new mail: check the box
Remove copy from server after receiving a message: your decision; if checked, then choose when you want those messages deleted.
Port: 995
Use SSL: check the box
Authentication: Password
Close the Preferences window, save and changes, and test it out.
Hope this helps,
Mulder

Cannot send mail through Hotmail on iPad, it's ok through bigpond though. I have tried deleting account and shutdowns x 2 but still nothing.
The message which appears is telling me the user name or password "SMTP:           @[email protected]" is incorrect.

Yahoo's been having persistently random issues for months. You can try just waiting it out, or delete and readd your yahoo account. When my accounts were affected I just used webmail to access my yahoo accounts until it cleared up.
Chances are it's all on their end and really all you can do is wait it out.

  • Cannot send mail from mac mail or Entourage

    Hi guys,
Wondered if anyone out there can shed some light on this little problem.
I use Entourage for my emails & all was working fine until yesterday. I can receive mail from all and sundry but I can't send anything. I subscribe to ntlworld internet service and if log onto my email through their webmail, then it's fine. I've tried sending mail from mac mail and I get the same problem. I've been onto microsoft support & gone through all the troubleshooting with Entourage. The Entourage techy suggested it was my internet provider blocking my emails as they think I'm a spammer?? I phoned ntl & they insist it's nothing to do with them as I can send/receive from the website. (If I send an email with the address @ntlworld it's fine, but any other address i.e. all my clients/mates etc just stays in my outbox.
Nothing on any of my settings has changed so I'm at a loss what to do next.
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Mel

it may be that your server (internet provider) has just started blocking outgoing mails not authenticated by them.
Go to your account set up...
and fill in the following details.
    SMTP SERVER: smtp.mac.com
then click on advanced sending otions...
click on override default SMTP port... type 587
click on SMTP servber requires authentication...
use same setting as receiving mail server.
    try this...

    Can receive mail ok
have tired rebuilding the mail box but no improvment.
i need to shut down system and restart to be able to send mail.

I tried something similar by adding a new mail account doing the apple id etc but it worked in that it would look for mail but no mail would come even though mail still goes to my phone I was loath to delete my original account just in case the new one did not work as well. So I guess I am a little stuck now.. I hope you can help me to sort it out.

An operation on the server timed out. The server may be down, overloaded, or there may be too much net traffic.
i read through much of the support articles, but did not find my specific error. can anyone help??

  • CANNOT SEND MAIL FROM .MAC SMTP ACCOUNT

    Hello everyone--
I can receive mail from my .mac account and have done extensive troubleshooting including:
    1. Changing ports from 25 to 587
    2. Deleting and re-installing mailbox
    3. Reading a hosts of topics
    4. I have the serving settings with SSL unchecked
...but this still giving me the same trouble. I cannot send out because my email address keeps getting rejected.
    Any suggestions? Thanks!

Are you also accessing an email account and SMTP server in Mail that is provided by your ISP used for connecting to the internet?
If so, can you send mail with this account and SMTP server?
If the answer is yes to both questions, select/use your ISP's SMTP server to send mail with your .Mac account which is invisible to all recipients.
Most, if not all ISPs now block the use of SMTP servers outside of their network on Port 25. Some ISPs allow the use of an authenticated SMTP server only (such as the .Mac SMTP server) that is outside of their network on Port 25 but some block its use regardless.
Changing the Port for the SMTP server that is outside of the ISP's network from 25 to 587 usually resolves it but sometimes not depending on the ISP's restriction.
Have you contacted your ISP regarding their restrictions and/or requirements when using an SMTP server that is outside of their network or not provided by them?
Using your ISP's SMTP server to send mail with your .Mac account should work and it may be required regardless.

  • Cannot send mail through Windows Live Mail with 3rd party email address

I know this problem has been thoroughly discussed, and I basically understand it. I  must change my outgoing port to 587 on my two non-Verizon email accounts that I pull into Microsoft Mail along with my Verizon mail. One of the accounts is my web site email with Network Solutions, and one is an email address through Onebox.com.
When I used port 587, neither worked to send email through Outlook Express or Windows Mail. I called Onebox. and was told to use (for them) port 465, which did not work to send, either.
I have not called Network Solutions yet. I did call Verizon Support, however, and the support person tried to find the solution. Finally, he told me I need to call Onebox again (and Network Solutions).
I am just checking to see if there is something I missed that anyone knows of. I would really like to consolidate my mail on my computer...it will be complicated if I cannot.
    Thank you,
    Laurie Bishop

What error did you get when you tried port 465?

  • Cannot send mail with .mac

I can receive mail with .mac account, but not send mail. I can send and receive mail using another account. Has something changed with .mac?

This issue is most probably related to your Internet Service Provider.
Several Internet Service Providers are blocking the use of smtp servers (like smtp.mac.com) by their customer for secury purpose allowing only their own smtp server.
First, you should check with your ISP if he his blocking smtp servers. If he do, just use the smtp server of your ISP. That's what I need to do from my home.

  • PC Users cannot send mail to Mac

I have had a group of PC users who get error messages when replying to my emails, some cannot even send anything to me anymore. Seems to happen in different version of Outlook. It never even gets to their server, just hangs up or stops when the try to send. Error messages include "cannot send this item" among others.

TIFF is used all the time on PCs. It's the standard uncompressed format for images.
So are properly formatted e-mail messages that conform to the MIME standard. That doesn't help anyone when sending e-mail to PC users.
I regularly send TIFFs (I hate compression artifacts) back and forth to PC users with no problems. The mail programs have no way to know what the file actually is.
In this instance, not using TIFFs seems to have fixed the problem for the original poster. I didn't want to leave this thread unresolved when this is a potential problem that other people could encounter.
I do use Thunderbird instead of Apple Mail. I'm betting your problems are related to something in Apple Mail totally unrelated to image formats.
    I'm bettin' not

  • Cannot send mail wiith Mac Mail

    Hello Team,
Hope you are all well, xmas is upon us... good times...
Had my iMac for about 1 month now - love it...
Im just having some issues setting up my mail, works perfect on my iPhone, although with the same settings on the iMac i cannot send any emails - weird.
All the settings are set up perfect, i can receive emails fine, although the sending is painful, i use password authentication and its just not sending!
    Any help would be appreciated...
All software is all up to date...
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year all...

Everytime i try to send it fails...
I have tried connection doctor and it tells me simply that there is a problem with the smtp...
"Could not connect to the SMTP server. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the Account Preferences"
    DETAILS:
    CONNECTED Dec 25 12:58:06.673 [kCFStreamSocketSecurityLevelNone] -- host:mail.anarchy2007.net -- port:465 -- socket:0x1189a94f0 -- thread:0x119624040
It can't be anything with the network or ISP - my iPhone uses the same network and sends perfectly - i can only deduce that the iMac has a setting blocking a port...?

  • Cannot send mail in Mac mail

On my Macbook Pro I can receive mail in Mac mail, but the sent messages sit in the Outbox. I have tried Synchronize Gmail and Connection Doctor will not allow me to connect. The only server that comes up is Gmail. Any suggestions???
Have an appointment at the Apple shop, but not until Thursday next week??? Thanks Mel

    Hi Haggie
Had a similar experience but couldn't work out why macbook was working and imac not. I hate verification with bt. Anyway, tried your method and as you say eureka! Did have imac plugged in before and put it on wifi to try your fix  I will try plugging broadband back in to see if that works and will post back but at the moment just enjoying the moment!
Just to say a big thank you for not only sorting the problem out but equally importantly posting the answer! Too many people sort out their problems without letting other people know how!
    Many thanks

  • Cannot send SMTP through Outlook

I cannot send mail through Outlook when I am connected to my WRVS4400N router.  If I drop the router it sends fine so it's not my ISP.  I can also telnet to the SMTP server.  Any ideas???  I have gone back to factory defaults and still nothing.  I am trying to use a godaddy relay on port 25.  Someone please help.

Don't know if you resolved your issues yet , but I was having the same problem. Heres what I posted. I've been reading these forums for some help regarding not being able to send email from Outlook. I tried everything that was posted here and nothing resolved my issue. Router was configured correctly, latest firm-ware, tried disabling all of my firewalls, bypassing the router and connecting directly through my modem, changing router settings as suggested... nothing. I then deducted that because I still couldn't send emails just going through my modem, it wasn't at all a router or fire wall issue. I did some research on ISP's and port 25...the port for send/receive emails. Heres what I found out and the changes the cleared up all of my issues. Many ISP's are blocking port 25 due to being overloaded and not telling their customers...like ME! Port 25 is the ISP's front line for blocking spam. If port 25 is blocked, you cant receive or sometimes even send email. To find out if your port 25 is indeed blocked, go to this web page and let it run. It might take a few minuets but it's a free diagnostic port scan and will tell you which ports are blocked. http://digconsys.com/testdir/portscan.html If port 25 is blocked, there are a few others that you can use and they are easy to change. The other ports for email are port 587 and port 1025. Port 587 is the most common ISP's recognize and this one worked for me. To change your port in Outlook, and I ASSUME in Outlook Express, do the following. Open Outlook Go to "TOOLS", choose "ACCOUNT SETTINGS" and double click on your account(s)to open. Choose the "MORE SETTINGS" tab and then click the "ADVANCED" tab. Here, you will see the "OUTGOING SERVER(SMTP)" it will be set to port 25. Delete 25 and replace it with 587. Hit "OK" ad then click the "TEST ACCOUNT SETTINGS". You should have successfully sent a test email to your self. If 587 didn't work, do it again and replace it with 1025. Port 587 works like a charm for me. I hope this helps some if not all of you out that are having the same issue as I was. I was ready to punt my laptop into the next state! Please reply and let me know if this fixed your send/receive issues. Chris

  • Smtp offline cannot send mails can receive

Cannot send mails from mac mail continues to show smtp offline however i can only receive mails, at my wits end

Try the Mailbox menu and select Take all accounts offline, then select Take all accounts online.
If this does not work, you should call your email provider. They may have changed their settings for SMTP, or you may be on a different network that requires different settings.
