Gmail connection problems with iPhone 5C

I cannot connect to Gmail with a new iPhone 5c (8GB, iOS 8.1.2, carrier is Verizon).  Have had no problems connecting to Gmail with previous iPhone 4 for last two years; have had this new problem with two different 5c phones in the last week since I upgraded the phone.  Verizon supplied a 2nd 5c phone when they could not resolve the problem with the first one, but the results have been the same.
The specific message I get when entering my Gmail password is "cannot connect to imap.gmail.com".
Gmail access is fine when using my Windows computer, and my iPad.  I have signed out of my Gmail account on my computer and signed in with the same password, with no problems.
Verizon has tried the following troubleshooting, with no success:
- Gmail account was listed in settings/mail,contacts,calendars/Gmail on phone when I initially restored new phone after activation (email address and password were both listed) but still got "cannot connect ...." message when tried to access email and password was requested.
- changed IMAP to POP
- deleted email account on phone, powered off phone, then added account back
- initial problem was with as-supplied software 8.1.1; tried after upgrade to 8.1.2
Gmail can be accessed using the Gmail app for iPhone, but cannot be accessed using the email icon on the phone; to activate the Gmail app, I have entered my email and password, and it was accpted without a problem.
Calendar function has mixed results when connecting to my Gmail-based calendar; it did not work for a while but now has worked for a while.

With the Gmail app or with Gmail open in Safari or using the native iPhone mail app?

All worked OK with ISO 6.

    Hello CraigNicholson
You would need to sync with iTunes to get that process to work for you. Check out the article below for more information on how to resolve that issue to get the proper token to use Push Notifications again.

  • IOS 6 wifi connectivity problem with iPhone 4s

After recently updating both my iPad 3 and iPhone 4S to iOS 6, I began to have problems with my wifi connection on my iPhone. When trying to connect to my home wifi, the iPhone seems to connect but then brings up the "Log In" screen with an Apple website loaded saying the page cannot be found. However my iPad, again also recently updated to iOS 6, has no problem connecting to wifi. Has anyone else experienced this conflict and is Apple working to correct this? My router is a standard U-Verse "2 wire" device. I have performed all the quick fixes I could think of such as restarting the router, restarting my phone etc. please help!

I have a similar fault with my Lexus ct200h fsport, updated to ios 8.1.1 on my iphone4s 64, and the bluetooth sometimes disconnects during calls then re-connects again (by this time the person on the end has hung up)  .but bluetooth audio works fine. very frustrating!!

  • Connecting problems with iphone after a closed connection with a Mac

    Hi!
I have set up 4 ssl vpn  with different shared keys. The connection with each Mac via Securitas is working fine. Additinaly I have set up a ssl vpn for an iPhone iOS4. If the SA 540 is rebooted I can connect to the SA with the iphone without any problems, one tine, two times...
But after I had closed a vpn-Mac-connection it is not possible to connect with the iphone again: the shared key is not correct. In this case the iphone tried to connect with its own shared key - a different one to the Mac connection.
So I set all shared keys to the same. After reboot of the SA the connection of the iphone works well. After a running or closed Mac connection the iphone could not connect to the SA: Error: communication with VPN-Server failed.
So it is not possible to connect with an iphone and an ssl client at the same time. The iphone can only make a connection after a long time again.
Has anybody a solution for that issue?
    The latest firmware is installed.
    Thanks a lot!
    Jens

This is a normal behavior when NAT-T is not enabled. Without NAT-T, the firewall cannot PAT ESP packets because there is no port (UDP or TCP) in the packet. Hence, every packet leaving the WAN interface has the same source address and no source port by which the return traffic can be identified and translated back to the inside address. With NAT-T enabled, the packet is encapsulated in UDP before being translated by NAT; therefore, each IPSec host on the inside of the firewall gets a unique PAT'ed source UDP port after the PAT is peformed and before the packet is sent out of the WAN interface; hence, when the return traffic arrives in the WAN interface, the firewall knows which PAT rule to use to send the return traffic back to the host on the inside of the firewall that originated the IPSec VPN connection.
Therefore, with NAT-T disabled, only one host behind a PAT firewall/router can establish an IPSec VPN tunnel to a host on the Internet at one time.
Besides the requirement of having NAT-T enabled for multiple hosts to be able to establish an IPSec VPN tunnel from behind a PAT firewall/router, you should also make sure that there's a firewall rule applied inbound on the WAN interface that allows UDP 4500; otherwise, NAT-T will not work. NAT-T uses UDP 4500 for IKE negotiations. Without NAT-T, IKE uses UDP 500.

  • Connection Problems with iPhone 3G

For some reason, my mother's iPhone cannot receive any signal from her provider - always in the same location (ground floor shop) - where other phones, including newer iPhones, of the same provider, are having no problems. What could be the cause of this?

Considering the 3G hardware is now over 5 years old, its not out of the question to think the cellular antennae may be developing a fault.
There's also the possibility, that the newer phones having a  better antenae and a broader range of signals they can pick up, pick up a newer signal the older 3G cannot.
You can take it a cell shop to get it checked out, or consider buying a newer phone.

  • Connection problem with iPhone & MacBook Air

Why can't I get them to pair?
I click the bluetooth icon in the menu bar, click My iphone, connect to network- I get an alert which says 'make sure network is enabled'.
I believe it is.   How do I know this, exactly?
Then I go to bluetooth preferences, I see my iphone & click it- it doesn't connect.
My phone asks me to see if the puter is on & in range- it is.
I'm confused. Anyone want to walk me through this?

  • Connection problems with Mail 6.2

Is anyone else having connection problems with Mail 6.2? I'm running OSX 10.8.2 and Mail 6.2 (1499)?
When Mail starts all my mailboxes connect to their respective servers (GMail, iCloud and an ISP). IMAP and SMTP connections are all good and mails can be sent and received. But then............ after a while (I've not timed it so I don't know exactly but say 20 to 30 mins) the connections begin to drop. First the SMTP connections to the ISP go then the SMTP ones to GMail then iCloud, then the IMAP connections drop. All connection settings are correct (it was working remember) and using the same connection settings on my iPhone everythig works just fine, but the Connection Doctor (Or whatever it's called) tells me that the mail account can't connect to the network/IMAP/SMTP server and asks me to check my connection settings. The only way to get it to work is to close Mail and restart it, whereupon everything is hunky dory for the next 20 to 30 mins.
As it's happening to all my mail accounts including Apple's own iCloud server I don't think it's a mail server issue. As I have internet connectivity it's not a network connection issue in that sense. As it was connected but then drops the connection I'm assuming that Mail is sending something it shouldn't to the respective server when it tries to connect to send and receive mails.
Everything was just fine until about a week ago and I didn't do any s/ware upgrades.
Is anyone else experiencing similar issues or does anyone have any help they can offer to fix it? It's kinda tedious to keep closing and starting the Mail App.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether your problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • I HAVE PROBLEM WITH IPHONE MIC

I HAVE PROBLEM WITH IPHONE MIC

    Hi Modular747,
I admit that I cannot be sure that we have the same problem.
But saying that it is not likely to be a design issue (or an issue for a specific batch) because you know 30 people without this issue, is also not really sustaining....
The specific issue is that the mic is not working when having a phone call, but that it is working with other apps (like voicerecording) also putting the phone on the speaker works.
Obviously you are a experienced moderator of this forum and you might even have connections within Apple Support. So in spite of reprimand me, it would be nice to get a solution for this issue, which apperently many iPhone4 users suffer reading these posts....

  • HT1222 Is anyone having problems with iPhone Bluetooth to BMW s since iOS 6.1

Is anyone having problems with iPhone Bluetooth to BMW s since iOS 6.1?

Yes. I had an iPhone 3G and when upgraded to 6.1 the bluetooth connectivity failed progressively and eventually the phone just wouldn't connect. I broke and reestablished the pairing am few times and each time it would work for a while then disconnect to the extent I thought the bluetooth hardware in the car was failing. I then got an iPhone 5 and the same issue remained. In the last few days I've paired an old Blackberry with the car kit to rule out the BMW hardware. Blackberry is fine so it has to be iOS incompatibility.
