Gmail Duplicate sent messages

I have an account which is producing multiple sent portions of any email I am composing. It is a Gmail account, but on the webmail portion of that, I see no duplicates in the sent box.
I have checked and rechecked settings, but see none that might be causing this.
Thanks for any insight.

When you use Gmail IMAP and you sync all the folders, you do get some duplicate mail on your Mac. This is because Gmail keeps one copy of each message and uses Labels. The Mail on your Mac keeps copies of messages in Folders.
You have a message you sent in your Sent folder. There is a copy of it. If you are subscribed to the Gmail Folder All Mail, you will end up with another copy on your Mac. In Gmail, it is just a message in All Mail labeled Sent. On your Mac you have two copies of the message.
You can ignore this or you can unsubscribe from All Mail by enabling Advanced IMAP Controls in the Labs tab of your Gmail settings and then unselecting Show in IMAP for All Mail in your Labels tab.

  • Duplicate Inbox after trying to solve Gmail duplicate sent messages...

.. was trying to solve the problem of duplicate sent messages with Gmail email on the BB Curve 8350. In following instructions from this message board, I instead ended up with duplicate INBOXES. Now, when I unregister and re-register my gmail account on my phone, it creates a new icon. This has resulted in my original problem being multiplied by four. What I mean is, now I have duplicate sent messages in TWO DIFFERENT INBOXES. Originally, my gmail account went to the main Inbox on the phone. I cannot delete the main message system.. HELP!

It seems I found a bug!
I now understand what happens, although don't know the reason. The symptoms are caused by the "Auto-Expunge" feature on Gmail. I disabled it and fooled around the options and this is what I discovered:
    When I set "the message will be archived when disappear from the last visible folder", the message is archived whenever I try to move the sent messages to any other folder than the "Sent" one;
When I set "move the message to trash when disappear from the last visible folder", the message is deleted and moved to trash whenever I try to move it from the "Sent" folder to any other.
In other words, for some awkward reason, Lion's Apple Mail is not handling folder-to-folder operations and Gmail thinks that the messages has been removed from the last visible folder and does with it whatever it was instructed to, which is either to archive or move to trash.
Since by disabling Auto-Expunge Gmail waits for the client to take the action, it seems that Apple Mail is sending the wrong command or sending it on the wrong timing.
I wonder is Apple is aware of this.
    Any suggestions?

  • Mavericks Mail.app + Gmail = Random Duplicate Sent Messages

I'm working with a user here with a brand new Retina MBP. Has 3 email accounts loaded in Mail:
    - personal @gmail account
    - corporate Google Apps account
    - iCloud
The iCloud account is pretty much unused.
Randomly - though increasingly frequently - when she sends mail using the new rMBP, 2-3 messages are being generated just seconds apart.
I can see from the headers the message IDs are different. Also, the recipients complain about receiving multiple identical messages.
It's worth noting that she also has a retina iPad and iPhone 4s that both have these two Google accounts loaded.
Software is up-to-date including the mail patch from last month. We've turned off syncing drafts at Gmail due to related Mavericks mail buginess.
I am fairly certain the duplicates only occur when she sends from the rMBP. Messages and replies sent from the browser or either iOS device don't get duplicated. The accounts are also loaded into a PC/Outlook (the system I switched here away from), but that system has not been on for several weeks now. The duplicates did not appear until we set up the rMBP.
So yes, it would appear to be a Google server issue, but only happens when using Mavericks.
Anyone else with a similar experience or thoughts to offer?

Maybe this will help. If you monitor the "More Like This" box (top right), other threads appear. Opening them usually displays other threads.

  • Receiving duplicate 'Sent' messages in Inbox

When I send a message via iPhone a copy is saved in my 'Sent' box. However, a few minutes later I receive the same message in my Inbox from myself (even though I addresses it TO someone else). It's frustrating receiving a duplicate from myself.... Does anyone know how to fix this?

I saw this on another thread... If you want to keep the Recent Mode ON - you can add a filter on your gmail account to send all mail FROM you to the trash.

  • Mail duplicates sent MESSAGES?

Since about two months I had three occurences where I sent an email to a person with text and maybe an attachment, shortly after I sent another email to someone else...with new body and all. HOWEVER, it sends out my first email with text, attachment to the second recipient specified. My second email (the intended one) is nowhere to be found. Not in drafts, certainly not in the "sent" folder.
    Anyone else having this problem?
    Thanks

If I’ve understood it correctly, this problem is caused by some index corruption that makes messages to randomly appear in a mailbox different from where they’re supposed to be. If that mailbox happens to be the Outbox, Mail thinks they’re waiting to be sent and dutifully proceeds to try to send them.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, and making sure that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is stored.
    3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see an Envelope Index-journal file there, delete it as well.
    4. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index -- Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • Gmail sends "sent" messages

If I email someone from the gmail website, when I go home and check my Apple Mail, my inbox has the email I sent in it. This obviously isn't a huge problem but its rather annoying. Anyway to turn it off or just what gmail does?

It is what Gmail has done for some time, at least if using POP access. I actually haven't tried it with IMAP enabled. Are you using POP or IMAP access?

  • Duplicate sent message

I found this help page http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB10332&sliceId=1&docTy...
and it was very informative.  I tried going to the BlackBerry Internet Service on my computer, but it wouldn't let me create an new account because it says I already have one.  I put my PIN in and said "forgot password" and the message that came to my phone said, "User name and password don't exist.  Please use your devise to access BlackBerry Internet Service."
When I use my device, it looks nothing like the screen caps on the help page, nor does it have any of the same link options to change the feature.  Can anyone help me out?

I use a gmail account for my mail.  When I send an email I sometimes get multiple duplicates (up to 10-12) of the same sent message saved in my sent file.  help

Did you check your user name and password in Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...tap your email account, tap SMTP, then tap the primary server name.  Make sure the settings there are correct.

  • Getting duplicates sent to my Centro from Gmail using "recent:" mode

    Hello all,
I have the Centro on Sprint and am using VersaMail v4.0.1.  I have 3 POP email accounts set up on this phone.  One of them is an account through GoDaddy, the other two are through Google (Gmail).  I also retrieve emails on my laptop for all three accounts so it is important that when my phone retrieves emails that it keeps them on the server until I retrieve them on my laptop, at which time they are removed from the server and stored locally on my laptop.
Here's my dilemma, even with the "Leave mail on server..." box checked in my [email->preferences->Server] options on the Centro the Gmail accounts do not leave them on the server.  Gmail FAQ's require I add the word "recent:" in front of my gmail account username (see: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=47948) to leave emails on the server.  The "recent:" mode fetches the last 30 days of mail, regardless of whether it's been sent to another POP client already.  The problem is that it not only leaves emails on the server but it downloads all sent emails to my Centro inbox so my centro inbox gets buried in my own sent emails.  My laptop does not get these 'sent' emails delivered to the inbox.
I realize this is possible a Gmail issue and I've searched their FAQ's and forums with no luck so thought I'd post here to see if anyone else is experiencing this.
    Thanks in advance,
    -Mike

Thanks, thetreoguy.  Even though Gmail doesn't list any PALM devices as IMAP supported I just used the generic instructions for setup and was able to send/receive a test message and a duplicate of the sent message did NOT show up in my inbox (YESSS!!!).  (see: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?ctx=%67mail&hl=en&answer=75726 for the list I'm referring to and link to the generic instructions).  Thanks for the advice...all those duplicates were driving me crazy!

  • Show Sent Messages in Mail thread (using gmail and imap)

I'm trying to get my email set up so that I can use gmail imap and also have it show my sent emails within each thread. I can see it within "all mail" but not within my "inbox." Also, ever since I started screwing around with the settings my inbox now takes forever to upload mail or to register that I have read it on my laptop and when I send something from my iphone it shows up on my browser's gmail as "sent mail" which it never used to do. I'm just frustrated and would love for someone to tell me their settings if they're getting the thread view to work well and for a quick refresh! Thanks so much!!!!

I have a similar problem where the threaded messages feature does not work for me unless I reply from my iPhone. If I login to gmail from my computer and reply from the web browser the message will not be in the thread.
I just want my emails to be threaded just like they are in GMail in my web browser.

  • Gmail sent messages are being continously moved to Outbox in OS X mail.

Gmail sent messages are being moved to Outbox in OS X mail. You can not be sure whether they have been sent or going to be sent anyway. No network problems or SMTP problems exist, a variety of IOS and Windows equipment uses gmail without glitches.(OS X 10.9.2)

This stopped happening as mysteriously as it started for me. The only change made on my end is that I added some seemingly unrelated filter Rules - around the same time (i can't be entirely certain if it stopped before or after the Rule changes) the proble with sent messages being marked as unread stopped. I doubt that the Rules actually had a direct effect, though perhaps it altered the structure of memory enough to stop the bug from occurring (something which I've seen many times in my 40 years of programming).

  • Mail/gmail sent messages

I've been using Mail and Gmail for about 6 months with no problems. 4 days ago, however, Mail stopped saving sent messages. The message headers are in the sent box, but when I click on them I get the message "The message from Chris Watson <[email protected]> concerning “well Hello” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it." The account is online, and the messages were sent from my computer and not the webmail version of Gmail. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Report the names of the files and folders present at the first level of the ~/Library/Mail/ folder in the Finder.
In order to post the exact file names and avoid typing mistakes, proceed as follows. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. With that folder open, if you’re looking at it in View > as List mode, first collapse any expanded folders so that the Finder only shows the files and folders at the first level of ~/Library/Mail/. Now, do Edit > Select All (⌘A), then Edit > Copy (⌘C), and paste it in your reply to this post.
Before actually posting that information, edit it so that the file/folder names do not reveal any details you should keep private, e.g. replace any real username with “username” to hide your real email address. Try to be consistent in how you disguise those details, though, as we may need to refer to them in subsequent posts.
Report also the names of the files and folders present at the first level of the ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/ account folder.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • How to remove Gmail "sent message" label

    Hi all,
I am using Lion in one of my Mac and I found one problem
I am using my Gmail account in Lion Mail
When I use Lion Mail to send/reply a mail, Gmail on brower will show a "sent message" label on that mail.
What should I do to prevent it?
I mean I do not want to see the "sent message" label on browser, after I sent a mail using Lion Mail.
    Thank you !!

For anyone who has the same trouble, I foudn a soliution here:
    http://lifehacker.com/5555291/how-make-gmail-play-nicely-with-your-desktop-email -client
    Simply three steps repeated here:
    (1) click on a folder "Sent Mail" under [Gmail] and go to the Mailbox menu in the menu bar. Hover over "Use This Mailbox For" and click Sent. This will make Apple Mail use Gmail's Sent Mail folder for sent messages instead of creating its own.
    (2) A label called "Sent Messages" will show up with your other custom labels.
    (3) Drag all the messages from the "Sent Messages" label to the "Sent Mail" label, to make sure they're all there
    (4) You can then delete the "Sent Messages" label.

  • Accidentally deleted Gmail Sent Messages in Mail; how to restore in Gmail

I use Apple Mail with snow leopard (OS 10.6.3)
In trying to troubleshoot a problem (2 copies of Sent emails showing in Apple's Sent Mail folder; one from local account, one from Gmail after syncing with server), I tried setting the Apple Email pref to Delete Sent Mail on quitting Mail.
Of course, this resulted in the Gmail server deleting ALL my Sent Mail. Although that mail CAN be found through a SEARCH (search ALL mail; FROM: my name; (for some reason, it is NOT all in trash, so needed to search on ALL MAIL), I cannot figure out any simple way to put the Sent Mail back into the Sent folder on Gamil.
I tried doing a custom search, but cannot move selected mail to Sent folder (only to Inbox)
Any help would be most appreciated- thanks.

In Mail previous versions, when I deleted a message from my Gmail account, it was locally. Now all the messages deleted in Mail, goes to "Trash" in my Gmail account. Is there anyway of avoiding it? Everyday I have to restore from "trash" to folders in Gmail account to keep my saved messages with the exception of "sent" messages which I must restore to "Inbox" folder.
    Thanks for your help
