Gmail e-mails disappear

I've used GMail without a problem until recently. Now, old e-mails are no longer visible in my inbox, but I can see them there through Safari. The iphone e-mail function just makes it look like they don't exist.
I am currently using MS Exchage so that I have my calendar and contacts. When I link this account through the GMAIL option, I do not have this problem.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

Found an option in the e-mail section of the settings!

  • How best do I leave Gmail for Mail?

I've decided I want to take the plunge and leave Gmail for Mail, using my iCloud account. Why? I've lost trust in Google (incl. their search bias, how they handle my privacy, and how they treat the end-user as a comodity to sell rather than a customer to serve). I'd love advice on the best way to swap over. I've done a bit of researching and can't seem to nail the answers to my questions. Your help + advice on any of the items below would be much appreciated. And if you think there's a better way I should be asking the question, please let me know.
Here's what I'm looking for especially:
I use Gmail's labels a lot. What's the best way to get the same effect in Mail? Smart folders? (I do wish smart folders synced to iCloud.)
I have a lot of Gmail labels. What's the best way to export from Gmail without getting oodles of duplicates? Forwarding folder by folder would be time consuming + lossy, and stripping the labels would be counterproductive. Are those my only options?
I use a lot of Gmail filters. Mail rules seem even better, but is there any way to automate transfering the filters to Mail?
I use Gmail 'send mail as' with a collection of non-gmail addresses (from my domains). Is there any way to use my iCloud account to send from a non-iCloud address? Or, is my only option to sign up with a different webmail service in order to send from my alternate addresses in Mail?
I have my own set of pre-defined Gmail keyboard shortcuts. Do I just need to tough it out and learn the Mail shortcuts, or is there a good, free/inexpensive app for adding shortcuts to Mail? And no, I don't mean through SysPrefs (I know how to do that ). I mean Gmail style single-letter shortcuts, like 'r' for reply.
Tips for converting Gmail Contacts to Address Book.
If you've made the switch, I'd also be interested to hear your experience! I'd really like to get Mail up and running sooner and rid myself of Google.

1: Smart folders won't sync between devices. But you can create regular mailbox folders under the icloud imap folder or at the icloud website which will stay synced.
2: The best way I see to do the labels is to create the gmail account in Mail. Set it to show those labels in imap in the labels setting section at the gmail website. All your gmail folders will appear under gmail's imap folder in Mail's sidebar. Then you will have options to export or just move the messages from one mailbox to another. I think I would just create a new mailbox under iCloud, then select all the messages from one gmail folder and right click to move the messages to the iCloud folder. Seems it would be the easiest way.
3: I don't think it is possible to transfer your rules from gmail to Mail. Rules should be very carefully constructed in Mail paying much consideration to the order they are placed. Simplify it as best you can and test it. In Mail, rules only will apply to incoming messages which may be different than what gmail does.
4: iCloud does not have the option to send other email addresses and retain their identity like gmail does. Best I can say on that is to create the accounts of the other addresses in Mail seperately with their own SMTP servers to send from.
    5: No comment.
6:You can go to the gmail website and export your contacts.
Or, open up the AB on the computer and go to preferences. Open the Accounts tab. Select On My Mac in the list and check the box to sync Google contacts. Put your google sign in and password. Your Google contacts should be created on the computer. You can then select all the contacts in google and drag them to iCloud to add them. Once done, deselect the google contact syncing.

  • How to download the "Sent Mail" folder from Gmail to Mail 4.1?

Since updating to Snow Leopard I no longer have any mail in my Sent Mail folder
when using IMAP in Mail 4.1. In fact just a few (258) of all my sent messages (3732)
    were properly downloaded.
I noticed that after configuring my Gmail to work with Mail/IMAP some new folders were
created. They are: [Gmail]/Sent Mail/Sent, [Imap]/Drafts, Sent messages, and Deleted Messages. Apart
from those, my Gmail account has always had standard folders such as Inbox, Sent Mail (the majority of my sent messages are in here), Drafts, Spam, and Trash. Apparently Mail is only downloading the messages from the new "Sent messages" folder and not the standard "Sent Mail", wherein all my sent messages actually are.
Another issue it that the spinning gear next to the Gmail Inbox in Mail 4.1 keeps spinning incessantly as if checking for new messages all the time even though it is set to check for new messages every 5 minutes and all messages has been downloaded. I have another IMAP account for my university's email which is working perfectly (neither problems with Sent Mail folder nor spinning gear). I will post the spinning gear problem in a separate question.
In my old MacBook I didn't have this problem when using Gmail with POP. This is the first time I'm using IMAP.
Is anybody having the same problems?
I appreciate your help in advance.

  • Very very slow to download gmail in mail APP iPad

As I wrote in the title, in the last days, from when I updated iOS 7.04, I've some problem with the mail app in iPad 3rd gen.
With the account gmail: it's very very very slow to download the emails.
First of all, I reset the iPad, but nothing.
So, I deleted the gmail account and set up it again... but nothing.
So, what's the problem: Gmail? Mail APP in iOS 7.04? Both? And how can I resolved it?
Thank you very much for yours replay. Best regards.

  • Strange things happen: mail disappears/appears/is shown wrong

Strange things happen: mail appears in "drafts"/mail disappears after "send"/title-content doesn't match
I'm having some Problems with mails that get worse and worse
First thing I remember is, that I found mails in "Drafts" that weren't drafts, but just mails I received or mails I sent.
They were kind of aliasses of the original. Deleting them in "Drafts" deleted the original in its Mailbox too.
Re-indexing Mail (removing the envelope.index files etc.) fixes it, but it reappears very soon
    Next thing:
When I send an email, it happens sometimes, that it is not send (no sending sound, no copy in the "Sent"-Folder). It just "disappears"
Re-indexing Mail fixes this: When Mail is ready with reindexing, it sends those messages (kind of funny, when I do this reindexing after some weeks... kind of...) - but it will reappear
The third thing happens more seldom:
When I klick on the emails name in the list, I get another Mail shown in the Previewbox. Doubleklicking the mail shows the wrong mail too.
Re-indexing fixes this, - but it will reappear
Well after having re-indexd my Mail library 10 times this week, I want another solution for this...
    Mail Version etc:
    Mail: Version 3.5 (930.3)
    1 Pop account,
    1 .mac account (i don't use)
Mail, after being sent, is moved to "Sent"mail never to be deleted
Mails Spam Filter is active (and working fine, by the way)
about 80 Mailboxes for old Mails I got, partially nested
More than 4000 Mails in the whole Database
    Things I've already done:
Reindexing mail, as I already wrote (Quit mail, removing the files "Envelope Index" and "Envelope Index-1", and the folder starting with "Mac-", then start Mail again, that tells me to klick "ok" for reimporting the mail)
I deleted a bunch of emails with attachements, so there are just a few with attachment now.
I emptied the "Sent" folder and put those old emails in 3 Folders (each of them is containing about 500 mails now)
Thanks for your help in advance
PS: Yes, I want to keep all these old mails...

This is not a security risk - a setting change you should make.
    1.     Take a look in settings - i message and see what the 'recieve at' addresses are declared.  If you do not want to see phone messages on the pad, clear that number out of there - and just use your e mail address.
    2.     Since you used to have an i phone, that device is likely still registered   go to your i tunes account and de register the device.

I can't send emails via mail. I can receive but not send. I have set up gmail on mail. Any ideas? No problems with the set up previously to this.

Go to Mail Preferences- Accounts and confirm you are providing Gmail what they require to send and receive mail. And DON'T specify Secure Socket Layer. Some mail accts don't like SSL
    Good Luck to you.

Email seems to be sent, but it doesn't arrive. No 'unable to send' message, sent items and draft folders are empty. The mail disappears. I tried to fully turn off the iPad and have it restart. But it doesn't go off. I keep seeing the small white 'turning wheel' untill the battery is gone. After that, it works again (and so does the e-mail). This happens about every week. What can I do?

*there's no reason to be paranoid*
    Says Mulder .
Anyway, as I mentioned, I don't use any sync-able email, just a very plain-jane POP email provider. iSync reports no devices and has nothing in its log, which matches my never having installed anything in need of syncing.
The thing is, if Mail says its sending something when nothing was ever sent, that's a largish bug whether it is actually sending something or isn't, and there isn't really enough info here to know which of those are the case. Maybe Mail just displays "Sending" because an attempt to do something reasonable is timing out, maybe it does an innocuous and normal POP thing using very confusing nomenclature, or maybe it's really trying to send something which has a wrong flag or something. There isn't really enough info to know what is going on, so I was hoping someone could identify the symptoms.

  • Config Gmail in Mail

Hi there.... From last Juin, I can't config Gmail in Mail..... It worked fine until Juin, but now it doesn't work....
I try to follw all the suggestions also from the Google website under the settings panel, but I doesn't word either....
Why...??? On my iPhone/iPad no problem, on the Mac no way.....
Normally, it autoconfigs itself only by put ID and psw, but now, NOTHING......
    Could you help me...????
    Thanksssssssss

Maybe this is a keychain issue. Try:
Delete the Gmail account from Mail.app. (Don't just inactivate it, delete it)
Go to Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access
Search for and delete all the entries that have anything to do with Gmail
In the Keychain Access Menu > Keychain First Aid, enter your password, repair, and start
I don't know if a restart is necessary at this point, but it wouldn't hurt
Go back to Mail.app and create the Gmail account again and see if it works.

  • Mail downloading gmail sent mail?

This could be a gmail thing and not a .mac but I can't find a setting in gmail that seems to account for this action.
I check my gmail with Mail and only occasionally use it to send stuff but when I do, at the end of the day, Mail seems to download a CC of the mail that I've sent (which I've not actually CCd or BCCd to myself). Does anyone know if this is a mac preference that I cant turn off somewhere?

Not sure what you mean. If those messages are being sent using Gmail’s webmail interface (which you haven’t made clear), this is normal Gmail behavior and Mail has no bearing on it.
Gmail POP access doesn’t work like a normal POP mail server would. Here are some of its idiosyncrasies (#4 could be what you’re observing):
    1. Messages downloaded by any conventional POP mail client are marked as downloaded at the server (but not as read on the web), and no longer available to either the same or any other POP mail client.
    2. To make already downloaded messages available for POP access again, you must go to Gmail’s Settings > Forwarding and POP page, select Enable POP for all mail, and click Save Changes, which causes everything (and I mean everything) still on the server to be downloaded again.
    3. The Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server settings have absolutely no effect on the messages stored on Gmail’s server. Gmail ignores any requests to delete messages from the server made by a POP client. What happens to the messages on the server after a POP client has downloaded them is determined by Gmail’s Settings > Forwarding and POP > When messages are accessed with POP setting alone. In the case of Gmail (and only in that case), I recommend turning OFF Remove copy from server in Mail, so that Mail doesn’t even try to remove any messages from the server, regardless of whether you do actually want already downloaded messages to be removed from the server after some time or not.
    4. Messages sent using the web interface will be downloaded by your POP mail client as if they were received messages. Although this may seem weird, it's good because it allows archiving all messages locally in Mail, regardless of how they were sent — as long as you don't access the same Gmail account with more than one POP mail client, that is. You can set up a rule in Mail to automatically route those messages to the appropriate Sent mailbox (or to any other mailbox for that matter) if that's what you want.
    5. Messages sent using a POP/SMTP mail client such as Mail are also treated as if they were incoming messages for POP purposes, just as in #4. What prevents them from being downloaded is that Gmail marks them as already downloaded immediately. Since they’re on the server nonetheless, already sent messages would be downloaded together with all the other messages on the server if proceeding as described in #2.
    6. A particular case of #5 are messages sent to yourself. Instead of putting a copy of the sent message in the server’s Inbox and making it available for download, both the sent and the “received” message on the server are actually one and the same, and hence, cannot be downloaded via POP for the reason explained in #5.
    7. Gmail allows POP accounts to be set up in a special way that avoids some of these issues while introducing others. If you only need POP access to the last 30 days of mail, you may configure Mail in “recent mode”, as described in Using POP on multiple clients or mobile devices. Configuring the account this way would allow Mail to download messages marked by Gmail as already downloaded (and download messages sent to yourself in particular), but it would also cause all sent messages (not just messages sent to yourself or through webmail) to be downloaded as if they were received messages.

  • Original mail disappears when forwarding if I inadvertently attempt an edit of the original.

This problem occurs when I am creating a reply to an incoming mail. After hitting the reply button, I will sometimes inadvertantly mix up (click on) the original mail message rather than the response I'm typing. This happens when my desktop is crowded and because of the way the reply message stacks on top of the original. Anyway, If I inadvertently attempt to edit or delete any part of the ORIGINAL mail, it just disappears in a flash, without warning, as if it has been deleted. Now, I know that original mail cannot be edited but why does it disappear? My reply message remains OK but the original disappears without a trace. Where does it go? Can it be retrieved?

I figured that part out already, thanks.
What I posted was an attempt to discover why the original mail disappears, where does it go, and can it be retrieved?
It's really annoying to have the original message just disappear on those occasions when I inadvertently to click on the wrong window.

  • Using Gmail through Mail in Mountain Lion - issue with inbox syncing across multiple machines

Hi. I am using Gmail through Mail in Mountain Lion on my iMac, as well as Mail in my iPad and iPhone. Generally speaking Mail seems to sync well across the three machines. However for some reason when I view an email in my inbox on either my iPhone or my iPad, the inbox on my iMac does not reflect the fact the email has been read: ie, while the email is marked as having been 'read' across both my iPad and iPhone, it remains 'unread' on my iMac. It is really frustrating and stuffs up the process managing the flow of emails. Is anyone able to help me please? Thanks so much.
    Best
    Jordan

Hi SB. Thanks for your advice. I checked and I am using the recommended settings. I'm still not sure how to fix this. It's very irritating! I will read an email on my ipad, then hit my imac and see that the email is sitting unread in my Mail inbox.
