Gmail e-mails no longer downloading to Mail 4.6

Hi there,
I'm using Snow Leopard 10.6.8, and have Mail 4.6.  I've never had problems with it before, but recently I've had issues missing Gmail e-mails on iOS Mail on my iPhone, so I followed the instructions in this thread to resolve it:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3543095
Essentially, I marked all my e-mails with a new label, archived everything, moved everything back to inbox.  I then loaded up iOS Mail on my phone, and all my missing Gmail e-mails came back.  However, from that point on, Apple Mail 4.6 on my iMac will no longer download any Gmail messages I've received since then.  I can send e-mails, just nothing turns up in my inbox.  If it helps, I have it set up as IMAP.  I also have a laptop (Lion) with a newer version of Mail.  That one has no problems downloading the latest messages, just my desktop app.  I even removed the Gmail account and re-added it...but am experiencing the same problem - it no longer downloads any e-mails from after the point of the archiving fix I did.  Perhaps there's a proper, full way of deleting the acocunt off my computer?  I just removed it and re-added it in Mail.
Any idea why I'm experiencing this problem and how to go about resolving it?
Many thanks.

dianeoforegon - double checked this, re-entered password, still no dice
Eric - I've already done this, was wondering if there's another more permanent way of doing this because it seems to remember all of the e-mails I have up to the point they stopped coming in when I re-add the account (without needing to download them).
Thanks for the replies.
EDIT: I've just tried removing and re-adding the account.  I deleted the account via preferences, and my computer's innards made quite a bit of noice, as if it was working rather hard.  My Mail inbox went empty.  The noise stopped, and I then received an error message (I forget exactly what, asking me to restart Mail).  Upon restart, I was prompted to enter my account details.  I did, and it verified my username and password okay.  I then got taken to an empty mailbox.  However, within a minute or two, my most recent e-mails began downloading.  In fact, it's still downloading now (I've had Gmail since 2004 or I think, so lots to download).
I'm hoping it's going to be okay now, will post again in here if it doesn't work out.  Once again, thank you for all of your help and advice, it's most appreciated.

  • Mail Won't Download New Mail!

I got a new powerbook in December and everything worked wonderfully. I set up my mail account and it work just as it should. However, when I left home (florida) and went back to college (virginia) and tried to open up mail, it was no longer downloading new mail! It gave an error message and it related it to the network connection or something...so after longtime frustration I just deleted the account thinking that if I did, I could just make the same account again and all would be well.
    NOT THE CASE!
So, I've looked at countless tutorials thinking that I may have entered the wrong information in the different fields and followed step by step all the information in each field. Nothing seems to work. It will let me add my account as IMAP gmail and all the rest but not as POP but I dont really think this is the problem because either way no mail is bringing brought to my inbox. what can I do? I think that it may have to do with my university's firewall that may be blocking it someway. Is there anyway to by pass this to get some mail!!!
    PLEASE HELP

Try removing the account from Mail and rentering it as a new account.

  • Mail is not downloading e-mails from the server

Mail is not downloading e-mail from the yahoo server.  However, I am able to send e-mails out

My problem with mail concerns gmail and not Yahoo.  But about once a day I see an email come in on my iPhone or iPad and then I wait for it to come in on my MBP, running Mavericks 10.9.2 with all the updates current.  It never does come in.  I find that by exiting from Mail and then in a few seconds opening it again that the missing mail will come in.  Also, I found that by taking the gmail server off line and then right back on line that the missing email will come it.
I like to reply to my email from the MBP so that I have a record of the sent files.  Sending from the IOS devices doesn't let the MBP know about the sent file.
This never happens under IOS 7.1 on my iPhone and iPad.  So I suspect it is a problem with Mavericks.
I'm sure I'm not the only one having problems with this.   Is this a problem with Mavericks or with gmail?

  • Pop - gmail - mail no longer downloading after 10.5.8 update

I don't know if it's related to the update - and I think I also updated safari (which I never use) but overnight my mail program has stopped downloading new mail from my Gmail account, which has always worked without a hitch.
The connection doctor says all is good - green lights all around.
And when I view the activity monitor while it's looking for new mail, it says 'connecting to...' and then 'sending password' and then nothing. It just ends, no new email, no error, no nothing.
    Anyone??????

Ok, so I got mine working by deleting my Mail preferences from ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist. Just move that file to your desktop while Mail is quit. You can always put it back if you like.
The down side is that you lose your accounts and have to set them up again, but all your mailboxes and downloaded emails should be reconnected fine. The preferences file contains the information about the accounts, but not the mail itself.
I tried restoring a backup copy of my preferences file, but as others have mentioned, each time I quit and restart Mail, my accounts were lost again and it asked me to set them up. The only way I found to prevent this was to get move the preferences file aside. Now it quits and restarts without a problem.
Hope that helps. Not ideal, but you can at least get back up and running.

  • Mail.03 will download received mail from Gmai uising pop but not sent mail

After upgrading to Leonard, I decided to reconfigure my gmail with Mail.03 (hopping to eliminate the non sound issue when new mail arrives. Prior to this Gmail downloaded all received and sent mail. After, only received mail is downloaded but sent mail is No not. (Nor can I successfully send mail using Mail 0.3 through gmail.
I tried setting up an imap account and could not download any sent or received items.

    Hi Hector.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, and making sure that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is stored.
    3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see an Envelope Index-journal file there, delete it as well.
    4. Move any “IMAP-” or “Mac-” account folders to the Trash. Note that you can do this with IMAP-type accounts because they store mail on the server and Mail can easily re-create them. DON’T trash any “POP-” account folders, as that would cause all mail stored there to be lost.
    5. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index -- Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
    6. As a side effect of having removed the IMAP account folders, those accounts may be in an “offline” state now. Do Mailbox > Go Online to bring them back online.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • Switching from POP to IMAP mail without losing downloaded POP mail (??)

I want to switch from POP mail to IMAP on two different business email accounts (both support IMAP) and a Gmail account, so I'll have all my desktop mail folders on my iPhone (not just the inbox stuff).
I'm concerned about losing my downloaded POP mail in the process.
Some time ago, I switched briefly to IMAP on one of my biz email accounts (as part of a web collaboration app), and lost lots of mail in the process.
If someone could summarize the steps to do this I'd be quite appreciative!
    Paul / Los Angeles, Calif.

    Hi,
Last month I have switched to IMAP from POP for several of my email accounts. I don't think it is possible to switch to IMAP from POP without deleting the account. I didn't find anything in the preferences. I usually don't erase emails in the server, so I didn't have any problem getting all my mails back.
In case you have erased emails on the server but not in your computer, it is a good idea to backup any of your mailboxes (Using "Archive Mailbox..." in "Mailbox" menu) that you feel important.

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. • E-mails not completely downloading in Mail *SL*

    Hey all,
Let me see if I can be as clear as possible. In mail, I have 2 pop Gmail accounts. Before SL, I enabled POP and every single e-mail was downloading, showing the activity bar reading "incoming 1 of 3000" e-mails. Now I am able to read all of my e-mails.
Now with SL, I tried the same thing I have before, and it seems not even 1/3rd of my e-mails download. The activity bar shows "incoming 1 of 3000" but there is not even 100 downloaded, so my question is, where are they? Any help would be appreciated.

    Barry,
Thank you for a prompt responce. I have done what you said, i.e. deleting all the accounts and re-setting them up again, it seems to have the same effect, activity shows incoming e-mails, but there are never any that show up except a handful like I mentioned in the previous post. Could it be on Gmails end? I'm not sure.

  • MAC OS user, IMAP mail server, re-downloads all mail over and over again, it's honestly killing my data and my pocket, I've tried finding ans and nothing works

I've tried everything, I've unsubscribed to 'all mail' folder from Gmail several times as this is the folder that seems to be the problem. TB has honestly cost me a fortune in data and truly effecting my pocket in a huge way! I compact folders online and offline as often as possible. I have a gmail account and a private email account that I'm using with TB both IMAP. PLEASE can someone offer some helpful advice on how to resolve this issue as I now have to re-purchase more data that's just been topped up for 3rd time this holiday and I'm literally only using it for my email(UNBELIEVABLE!!!!) 5gig's just for email and I've literally received only 50-80 new emails over the holiday season. #goinginsane

  • Mail app stopped downloading new mail as of 12/20/13 - use google mail.  Any advice?

No idea why this happened.  Not sure if I updated iOS or anything, but I didn't change any settings.

By the way, my Mail App is version 5.3

  • IMac with Snow Leopard - Mail 4.5 not downloading e-mails

    Hi there,
I am using an iMac with Snow Leopard 10.6.8, which has Mail 4.5 on it.  Since yesterday, my Mail application will no longer download e-mails.  When I open it, the little tray in the corner says it is downloading message 26 of 26, but after it finishes, nothing happens.  No new Mail has been downloaded.  It keeps doing this, even after a reboot (I have double-checked that the order of my Mail hasn't changed, and it isn't just showing at the bottom).
Today, I removed my Gmail account from Mail, and added it again.  I entered my Gmail username/password.  Once set up, it proceeds to download e-mails (downloading 1 of 26).  The thing is, it has shown this constantly for the last 20 minutes.  I don't even have big recent e-mails.
I'm not sure what I can do to resolve this, would appreciate any suggestions.
    Many thanks.
P.S. I don't think it's a Gmail problem, as I have a MacBook Air with Lion, and Mail is downloading all e-mails on it without any issues.

    Hi Zak,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • Apple Mail won't download .doc attachments

Lacking a specific "Mail" catagory I've posted this here. Less than Ideal I know but here goes.
    This just started last week.
Many of us in the office and contractors we work with send .doc files by email. In the last four of five days (mid March 2014) Apple Mail no longer downloads them. See the attached image
We can see the document title with a download button above it. Clicking on the button does nothing. Right clicking and using "Save Attachment" yields a 0kb file. Right clicking and using "Open With" results in a blank Word document.
If I use mail clients other than Apple Mail (for example Thunderbird) the documents download correctly.
The problem is not related to spam filtering as we all use different services (and some use none at all).
This is the case across multiple macs using Mail. All the installs worked properly prior to about a week ago.
Is there a fix for this (other than everyone buying new machines and upgrading to newest software)?
    Thanks.

Because Mail is part of OS X you will find a forum in it for the version of OS X you have installed. For example if you have Mavericks 10.9.x then search in the Mavericks forum.

  • Get Mail to Stop Downloading Junk from Exchange Server

Our company uses Comcast Business Class for email service. They in turn are running Exchange 2007 servers.
I recently had to reconfigure all my email accounts do to a corrupt Mail plist. Upon doing so, I found out about Mail 4.2's (Snow Leopard edition) ability to auto discover Exchange server configurations. Pretty nifty. With one caveat. Apple Mail is downloading all the Junk mail that winds up on the Exchange server. Which is quite a bit.
Originally, before the corrupt plist problem, my Mail 4.2 was upgraded from Leopard and the account information transferred using the non-auto discovery method, if you will. When it was setup that way, there were only about two or three Junk messages that breached the barrier per day. Now I'm getting dozens.
On to my question: is there a way to configure Mail to stop downloading Junk mail from an Exchange server and just leave the Junk on the Exchange server?

    Thanks, William.
They are, fortunately, being filtered into my Junk folder in Mail. There is the occasional culprit who sneaks through to my Inbox, but most wind up where they should. It's just the increase in volume to that Junk folder that has me concerned.
Additionally, if a non-Junk message gets erroneously tagged, I no longer have the option I once had to set the message as "This is not Junk". That used to appear as a graphic and button at the top of the message. It seems like I no longer have that capability.
