Gmail Facebook Mail Comes to my iPhone, But Not My Mac

For a few days now messages from people in a couple Facebook groups (and there are a lot of them) come to my iPhone, but not to my Mac or iPad. And they are all using the same router to get to the internet. And all other mail, before and after these messages gets to all three devices.
Sometimes mail to my Mac (in both the Mail application and using Safari to access gmail) is delayed. I'll be sitting at my Mac with gmail showing I haven't got a message in hours, and notice on my iPhone I've gotten a dozen messages. I'll try to refresh on the Mac and no luck. Then maybe 15 minutes later they'll appear. Don't know whether this is related.

Hi neil43,
If you are not able to send or receive mail on your MacBook because you are being prompted for a password that is then rejected, I recommend trying steps in this article:
OS X Mail: Troubleshooting sending and receiving email messages
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3276
Tip: If you see a sheet or dialog that states 'Enter the password for user "email address'", this indicates that the email service provider is having an issue with the password being sent by Mail, or there is an issue with the email account. Contact the email service provider for support. Choose Window > Connection Doctor click "Show Detail" then click "Check Again". The information displayed in the "Show Detail" drawer may include details from the email service provider about what the issue is. Look for headers that start with "[ALERT]".
The article continues on to walk you through using Connection Doctor, and based on the results, how to troubleshoot further.
Cheers!

I have 3 icloud addresses.  All 3 work fine on my iphone, but my macbook rejects the password for one of them.
The settings are the same on both devices.  What's wrong??

  • Why can I open attachments (pptx and PDF) on iPhone but not on Mac?

Why can I open attachments (pptx and PDF) on iPhone but not on my MacAir (OS X 10.9.2)? Generally, I can open PDFs on my Mac, but in this case, I opened on iPhone, and not on computer! Also pptx file from one sender opened on iPhone, and not on Mac, and the same pptx sent from another person wouldn't open on either! Help!

Hi there.  I think as far as PowerPoint files go (pptx) you will need a copy of Office or some other compatible software (e.g. Keynote) to open it on your Mac.  On an iPhone there is a viewer built in just so you can take a look at most common attachment types.  If you have a copy of Microsoft Office on your Mac you should be able to open the pptx files in PowerPoint.
OS X definitely has a PDF viewer, it's called Preview.  I think you can also load Adobe Acrobat if you want but I've stayed away from it for years as I find Preview faster and better.
If you still can't open a PDF file attached to an email message on your MacAir by double clicking on it, could you let us know what error message you get, or what happens?  That will help people to help you.

  • New mail shows up on iphone but NOT mail.app

Not sure if this belongs here, sorry if its the wrong place.
I have a mobile me email, and iphone, and an imac. when new mail comes in it shows up fine on iphone and when i FIRST launce mail.app. However, if a second email comes in, mail.app will not 'see it'. iphone will.
how is this possible? and how do i fix it?
    thanks

On my set up, with the mobile me sync panel set to automatic and mail accounts ticked, I recieve incoming mail instantly. (on phone and mac)
Mail Accounts under the Sync tab for your MobileMe account settings is for syncing email account settings with the Mail.app between multiple Macs only. This has nothing to do with Fetching messages or new messages being pushed to the Mail.app or to the iPhone.
The iPhone includes a Push setting, which can be turned on or off. Are you saying if you turn Push access off on your iPhone and leave Mail Accounts selected under the Sync tab for your MobileMe account settings on your Mac, new messages will be pushed to your iPhone with your MobileMe account even though Push access is turned off on your iPhone?
+There is no setting at System Preferences > MobileMe under the Sync tab that has anything to do with the Mail.app.+
+The Fetch setting for the Mail.app is at Mail > Preferences under the General tab.+
+The Mail.app setting that allows for Push access with an IMAP account is available under the Advanced tab for the account preferences - use IDLE command if the server supports it.+
The iPhone includes a Fetch setting, which is used if Push access is turned off. The iPhone includes a global push setting - on or off, and you can enable or disable push access separately for received messages, contacts and calendars with a MobileMe account. I don't have push access enabled for received messages with my MobileMe account on my iPhone, but I do have push access enabled for contacts and calendar events.
The MobileMe sync settings under the Sync tab for your MobileMe account preferences has nothing to do with the Mail.app and checking for new messages or syncing server stored mailboxes with the Mail.app or with the iPhone's Mail client.

  • Mail message listed on iPhone but not in Mail on my iMac

Today I received a message on my iPhone but when I went to reply to it on my iMac the message did not appear even when I searched for it.
It also shows in my mail server's Webmail. This is very scary. How many other messages am I missing?

  • I use Messages on iPhone and iPad. Photos come in on iPhone, but not on iPad.

I use Messages on iPhone and iPad. Photos appear on iPhone message, but not on iPad message.

This did help but I had to play with it a little. I had previously turned face time off on her ipad. I had to turn it on and then go in and do Settings>FaceTime>iPhone cellular calls>OFF. Then I was able to turn face time back off and it kept the other settings that I had changed. Thank you!!!!!

  • Re Iphoto stream - how to save space on icloud by deleting on iphone but not on mac iphoto?? thanks

Hi - be great if anyone can help....

    Hi
It's a very good idea to use an external hard disk to take load off the Main Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk.
BUT there are some VERY Important things to know.
    A. NEVER move via DeskTop/Finder or alter any folders named
    • iMovie Events - or -
    • iMovie Projects
As this will result in disaster (hard to impossibly to mend)
All moving's of Events and Projects must be done Within the iMovie Application to be done in a Safe Way
    B. The External/Second Hard Disk
    • MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted for VIDEO - UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange works for most things BUT NOT FOR VIDEO - whatever program is used iMovie or FinalCut or iDVD doesn't matter - VERY IMPORTANT ! ! !
    • Should be a FireWire one as USB/USB2 performs badly to me especially when filling up. (Thunderbolt might be even better - have non to test)
    BUT when reg. iPhoto Library.
    • Yes it can be moved
    • Yes iPhoto can be directed to find it
    • BUT - iMovie can not find those out-localized iPhoto libraries (AS FAR AS I Learned up to now 12-April-03 - anyone with more insight may kindly set me into a possibly way to do this)
So I've outsource my iMovie Event's (most important as they take space) and Projects (not so important as they are very small - no movies in them only text document conducting how the Events are to be viewed) - BUT iPhoto stays - will not touch it.
    Yours Bengt W

  • IMAP works on my iPhone, but not my Macs?

I have several IMAP accounts set up in Mail. However, Mail won't retrieve IMAP mail from one of them (it will send mail through it fine). The mail server is the same name/account info for retrieving/sending.
Here's where the weirdness comes in.
My iPhone can retrieve the mail, using the account info synced from iTunes.
Entourage on the same machine can retrieve the mail.
Outlook, running through Parallels on the same machine can retrieve the mail.
But Mac Mail, running on this machine and two others, cannot do it. I receive a "timeout on port 143" message inside the mail viewer window, and a different "trying to login failed. Make sure un/pw are correct" error message in the Connection Doctor.
Does anyone have any ideas for this? It's a weird, crazy problem that I have never seen before!
    Thanks,
    Eric

  • Facetime works on iphone but not on mac using snow leopard?

Face Time is synced to my iphone 4S, and Face Time works on it. But when I try to make calls on my imac (snow leopard) using Face Time, it doesn't work, it says that the 'call failed'. I've turned off Face Time on my iphone, so that the calls will go to the mac only, and calls i make will go from the mac only.
    Any ideas?

The Version of Snow Leopard is 10.6
My only thought as to why Facetime is not working is because of the recent changeover to iOS 6.
Apple are obviously trying to get everyone on to Mountain Lion, but some users, including myself
prefer to wait a while to let the gremlins get sorted.
Any ideas on the above will be welcome

  • Message on iPhone but not on MAC

I have a MACBook Pro and and iPhone 4s both with the app messages.  Generally a message appears on both and I can send from either.  Yet the other day I was given a phone number and tried to send a message via my MAC but it was unable.  Yet I successfully sent a message to this person via my iPhone and he responded.  The bubble on my message was green not blue, so I assume my message did not go via iMessage.  Is there a way how I can make his name appear in my MACs messages so I can send him future messages from my MAC?  All I have is his phone number.

If the bubble was green, the message must have gone by SMS. Macs have no direct SMS capability.
That other person either does not have an Apple iPhone, has chosen not to register the phone number with iMessage, or did not have an internet connection active at the time of your experiments.
There are services that claim to allow non-SMS devices to send SMS messages. I've never tried any of them, so I don't know how well (or even if) any of them might work.

  • HT202786 Shared photos appear on iPad and iPhone but not on Mac

    Hi Everyone:
I have several albums I share via iCloud. They appear on both my iPhone and iPad, but do not appear in iPhoto on my Mac. The album titles appear, but the photos do not have. Below are screenshots.
All devices are using the same iCloud account. I have tried turning iCloud Photo Sharing on and off in both System Preferences and iPhoto, but that is not working.
    iPad:
    iOS 8.1
    Mac
    OSX Yosemite 10.10.1
    MacBook Pro 13-inch (mid-2012)

You could also try to remove folder ~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/assets/sub-shared/  to the Desktop.
This folder is the local copy of the photos in the shared Photo Streams on the Mac from the user library.
The user library is hidden by default. To open the hidden User Library:
    Use the Finder's "Go" menu.
Click "Go", then hold down the options key, until you are seeing "Library" in the drop down menu appear and click it.
In the Finder window that will open navigate to the folder ~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/assets/sub-shared/.
Remove the folder and restart the Mac.   It will take some time, until the folder will populate again. Don't delete the copy you removed, just in case.

  • ICal appts syncing from Mac to iPhone, but not from Mac to iPad.

Events ARE syncing from iPad to Mac, iPad to iPhone and iPhone to iPad.
All devices are on most updated OS and are syncing through iCloud.

This helped me solve the problem:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15810596#15810596
only problem is there is now duplication of all events being synced from my mac.
