Gmail IMAP - Duplicate Accounts in Mail

Hello all-
I found a similar discussion about this a couple weeks ago but was unable to find a solution. I enabled the IMAP function on my Gmail account, and it works fine. However, I now have two Gmail folders that seem to act independently of each other. One Gmail folder is found in the big Inbox folder and another is found in a folder marked with an @ globe. If I delete an e-mail in the big folder, it's still in the globe folder. I have the same issue with sent e-mails, which means I'm having to delete all my e-mails twice. Is there a way to have my inbox, sent, etc. e-mails in one place?

  • Duplicate accounts in Mail, Contact and Calendar

I found that I have duplicate accounts in Mail, Contacts and Calendar.  When I try to delete them from within those apps, System Preferences - iCloud is launched.  Within iCloud there are no duplicates, so there is nothing to delete.  How do I delete the duplicates in the individual apps?

Well, it looks like you’ll have to do some kind of Reset Sync Data in System Preferences > .Mac > Advanced, e.g. from the .Mac server to the PowerBook, maybe after quitting Mail and moving com.apple.mail.plist out of ~/Library/Preferences/...

  • How to delete gmail IMAP duplicates???

I'm using Apple Mail 3.4 with my gmail account using IMAP. For some reason, Mail is downloading at least two copies of all the emails I receive...1 copy in the inbox and 1 in [gmail]~all mail. It gets even worse if I send an email cause then it puts another one in [gmail]~sent mail.
First, how can I make Mail only download my inbox folder from gmail; and second, how can I safely delete all the duplicates sitting in that [gmail] folder without erasing my entire inbox on gmail.com. (I assume that it would delete everything on gmail.com since I'm using IMAP)
    Any ideas?

you can't do anything about allmail folder. that's how gmail IMAP keeps things.
for the sent folder select sent mail folder in gmail section at the bottom, go to mailbox menu->"use this mailbox for" and set it to be used for sent mailbox for gmail.

  • Duplicate accounts in Mail

Moin (stands for Good Morning in Northern Germany, used all day long)
the problem is: I've got to set up a load of POP mail accounts using the same server. e.g.: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] and so on. Is there a simple way to duplicate them and change username, password and such later?
    Danke schön!
    Gunnar

    Moin Gunnar.
None that I'm aware of because you can't create multiple email accounts in Mail that utilize the same user name and incoming mail server.
When creating an email account in Mail, an account named folder is created at the first level within the Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account.
This account and associated mailbox filing structure prevents having multiple accounts in Mail that utilize the same user name and incoming mail server or duplicating an existing account and changing the user name, incoming mail server and password later.

  • Mail and Gmail IMAP: duplicates in sent folder

    Hi there,
I recently set up my Gmail account for IMAP and configured Mail.app accordingly. I have several mail accounts which all get directed over my Gmail account. It all works fine, but whenever I send a mail from Mail.app from one of my mail accounts, it appears twice in my sent folder in Mail.app (it's not sent twice, I checked that, and it appears normally in the sent folder of the web interface).
It's seriously clucttering my sent folder, does anybody have an idea how to fix this? Maybe a problem with labels?
    Help greatly appreciated,
    J

    Anyone? No idea?

  • Anyone using gmail imap and and Apple Mail?

Can you tell me if, when you use Apple mail for imap gmail access, what address source does it use?
Does the imap pull up the address auto complete of gmail or does it rely on your address book on your mac (or both)?

I'm using Google IMAP with Mail and it uses the addresses I've got in my Mac's Address Book. Can't tell you if you can also use addresses from Gmail but I'd be inclined to think you could. Joe Kissell provides an excellent, if lengthy, explanation of how to get Mail and Gmail to work together here: http://db.tidbits.com/article/10253

  • Mail with Gmail IMAP: All mail getting marked as read

So other than being painfully slow, and just plain irritating, I have one huge problem with Mail (Tiger) and Gmail IMAP. All incoming mail is marked as read. The mail downloads, gets sorted into folders by the various rules, but the folders never show up with a number showing new messages. I have missed so many emails lately, I think I will have to go back to POP...or add a line to every single rule saying "mark as unread".
Is there a simple solution to this problem I am overlooking?
    Thanks...Sam

Yeah, the stupid part is that all SPAM comes marked as unread. So I get to see that I have spam, just not legitimate mail. Ugh.

  • Mail vs. Gmail IMAP Junk Filtering?

The IMAP setup instructions for Gmail say that it is best to turn off any filtering in the Mail program, as the latter will attempt to download a lot of other stuff and create unwanted traffic.
However, I find that when I turn off junk filtering on Mail, the Gmail junk filter misses a lot of things the Mail junk filter seemed to catch before I went to Gmail IMAP. And, with Mail junk filtering turned off, I can't "train" it to catch junk mail that gets through the Gmail filter.
Is there any way to avoid the increased traffic I get from IMAP Gmail if I turn on my Mail junk filter?

Turn off junk mail filtering on GMail, don't use Mail and use the browser interface to GMail, get another email ISP, configure your own incoming rules for Mail to catch specific junk that GMail's filters miss.

  • Gmail IMAP not synchronizing all messages in some folders

I use Google's Exchange approach to contacts and calendars, but I've recently switched my Gmail access back over to good old IMAP because of the inability to truly delete messages. Manually moving to trash wasn't doing the trick for me either.
I've moved messages between folders and from outside IMAP/Exchange accounts (via Mail on OS X) more than a few times, but I've noticed that when looking at my Sent Items in Mail in iOS, there is about a year of missing messages that only appear in Mail on OS X as well as within Gmail in a browser.
Anyone have any thoughts on how I might fix this? Deleting and re-establishing the account doesn't help, going back to Exchange access doesn't help, and I'm not sure what else might help.
I did notice just now that I hadn't gone to Sent Items since I last set up that email account again, and for a brief few seconds, all the mail was there -- and then everything vanished between about 12/2010 and 12/2011.
It also seems that changing the number of messages stored -- from 200 to 500, for example -- changes the times between which messages don't show.

I am using imap on all my machines, I have triple checked.
I do not think it is my server but rather some type of cache issue with mac mail.
I have restarted and also reset pram to no avail.
Now I'm looking for a good cache cleaner for mac Lion that will also do mail.
Seems difficult to get to the mac mail cache folder with Lion.
I never tried cleaning it with Snow Leopard to see if that actually fixes it.

  • GMAIL IMAP PROBLEM (can't duplicate mailbox in apple mail)

I am seriously at my wits end! It has been about a week and I am still having huge problems with my gmail imap account in apple mail. At first, my sent messages were not being imported into apple mail (only about 30 days work). After a bunch of fiddling and trying to fix the problem (deleting the account in apple mail, rehooking up the account, rebuilding the mailbox, switching off IMAP enabling in gmail) the problem has only gotten worse.
Now, only 1000 emails from gmail are sent into apple mail. I know there is a setting within the gmail prefs to limit the amount of messages in an imap folder 1000 but, I have that turned OFF.
As of right now my apple mail shows about 1000 messages in my inbox and 250 or so in my sent mail. None of the mail is from before 12/7/10.
The only thing that seems significant about that date is that I set up another IMAP account on a temporary macbook laptop at a temp job on that day in apple mail (the account has since been deleted when I stopped using the laptop).
Ugh, this is so annoying and frustrating. I often need to look in my mail archive for old messages/attachments.
I can't seem to find any help anywhere, but if you can offer me any advice I would really appreciate it!

    Hi,
I don't know if this is relevant... but…
Last year, when I set up a second, temporary Gmail IMAP account, I found that all did not jell well together…
I encountered quite a few problems… sending and receiving… transferring to and from the accounts… and lots of Hangs and Time Outs…
When I had eventually finished with the second account, I not only deleted it from Mac Mail, but Completely Closed and Deleted it with Gmail.
Since then I have had no such problems with my single Gmail IMAP account…
As I said, not sure if this is relevant to your Problem, but thought it might be of interest to you.
    Cheers

  • Using (Gmail) IMAP account from 2 different Macs using Mail ?

Would it be feasible/useful to access an (Gmail) IMAP mail account from 2 different Macs using Mail on each Mac?
    My current situation:
    - My main computer is an iMac in my bedroom on which I use Mail for my Gmail IMAP account.
    - Sometimes (ex: late at night) I can't work from the bedroom and use a PowerBook and the web interface of Gmail. However, I don't like the threaded view for managing emails and therefore prefer the Apple Mail interface.
    Question:
Would it make sense that I use Apple Mail on the PowerBook to access the Gmail account instead of using the web interface?
    What would be the inconveniences?

Doing so is pretty easy, and standard. That is what IMAP accounts are for, and many computers can access the same account, and what email client they choose doesn't matter.

  • More than 1 IMAP account in "Mail"? - ...e.g. 2 "gmail" accounts in "Mail"

    Hi folks,
I have currently a "mobile.me" subscription which I don't really use (e.g. I don't need the internet functions like the homepage designer nor the 200gb, etc.). Nevertheless, I would still like to use "Mail" as my primary email application.
Therefore I created two new "gmail" email addresses (one for my wife and one for myself). Although it was quite an easy task to set-up the first gmail address in "Mail" (IMAP) it was not possible to install a second IMAP account.
Please help me! How can i set-up a second IMAP account in "Mail"?
or the other way around. how can I use "Mail" with two different email addresses? ...without a "mobile.me" subscription?
    Thanks in advance
    Dave

    mea culpa!
I forgot to change the description for the second (new) IMAP account.

  • Mail won't find emails in gmail imap account

I'm having this problem since I moved to the Mailboxapp on my iPhone.
I changed the gmail account to using imap instead of pop3.
Now, when I search in the Apple Mail app, it doesn't find messages with the "any" search directive.
E.g. searching "theo" with any, won't show the mails contained in the imap inbox, sent or important folders on the gmail imap.
If I search for "theo" with from, it finds the emails in the in the imap inbox. If I search with to, it finds the ones in the sent imap folder.
    Is this expected behaviour?

Thanks Griff and Eric. I tried both and it's still the same.
It just won't display messages matching the search term in the from field when using the any search.
It will only find them when searching with the from criterion.
I also want to point out that I followed these Instructions for setting up Mail for Mailboxapp:
    http://www.mailboxapp.com/help/client-config/mail.app.html
If you do follow those instructions, "Store draft messages on server", "Store sent messages on server" and "Store junk messages on server" will be checked under the Account settings' Mailbox Behaviors' tab.
But searching *should* still work as expected imho.

  • TS3276 20GB gmail IMAP account in Apple Mail 4.5 is very slow

I have several users with large Gmail IMAP accounts (10GB - 20GB). these accounts work fine from web browser, but one user (87% of 25GB gmail account) experiences frequent slow downs and delays both sending, receiving and worse filing mail in Apple Mail 4.5
I assume this was to do with volume of mail, but other users are fine. I have repared permissions and rebuilt the index, which has made no difference, any ideas what could be causing this?
All users are running recent Imacs with snow leopard sufficient disk space and memory.

Hi, I am striking out in getting to the bottom of this issue and need advice.
I have a macbook (08) running mail 3.6 and have no problem w/ my gmail/aol/att accounts.. but with my wifes new macbook 10.6.4 (4.3 mail) Gmail constantly reloads all mail I delete and I can not receive any new emails. Mail is setting up automatically as IMAP settings even though I have my other email as POP and have no issues. I can not find any help via Apple and searching the internet seems just as bad. I have also tried ports 465 / 993 / 995 none seem to work. I have tried the unlock method as well. I will have to try this auto setup to POP as I can't get IMAP to work.. but it seems like I have tried almost everything! I have seen your responses in a number of areas to this issue but thought I could ask directly. Please help.
