Gmail-Mail imap server

Since 2 days, I experience server problems with the IMAP Gmail server, so that I cannot load mails. Are there other users with the same problem?

Yes, I am having the same problem.
Using Mail v6.6 this morning Jan 4th 2014 I get this error message from my account linked to gmail
"Mail was unable to connect to server “imap.gmail.com"
Can't tell if it's a local issue or wider gmail problem. Can't seem to fix it at the moment.

  • Restore deleted mails (IMAP server)

    Hi,
Many of the mails are accidentally deleted from my Inbox. Trash is empty as well.  Is there any way to restore the deleted messages.
Server being used is an IMAP server.
    Any pointers will be helpful.

  • Gmail - Mail IMAP not working very well

Hey all, I'm having some trouble with moving from POP to IMAP on my mac. I just set it up and it works fine except for receiving mail and syncing up with gmail online but for some reason I am unable to send emails straight from Mail. It seems that Mail can't connect with the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP). It 's set to send to "smtp.gmail.com" as per the instructions at http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=81379. In the preferences pane that seems to translate to smtp.gmail.com:(my email address).
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks for reading!

What are your settings for the Incoming and Outgoing ports; do they match exactly what Gmail advises in their Help page for Mail? If not, it won't work.

  • Mavericks Mail IMAP Server Connection Problem

I manage a number of IMAP servers for clients. One server no longer connects since I upgraded to Mavericks - it basically tells me the settings are wrong, though they have not changed for quite some considerable time.
The account works fine in Thunderbird (created for testing this morning), so clearly there is a bug of some sort in the Mail code. I'm connecting via IP address, as the server doesn’t host a live domain; I have connections working OK to other servers by IP address, so it's not clear why this one is not working.
How does this get reported to Apple?
    Thanks,

  • Problem with Mac Mail-iMap server on Hosting (Overloading Server)

Hello, I just created an account with HostGator for my business and we have 6 emails. We have imap email and our account allows us to check email once per minute per email. We have it set up to check every 5 minutes so this should not be a problem.
They then told us that there was a problem with it checking more frequently and also overloading the server by issueing 'multiple imap commands per email, 3 to 4'. I can view our server processes and sure enough each email is showing 4 imap commands. I unchecked 'use IDLE command" since I know IDLE command has something to do with it checking frequently for email.
Unfortunately we have 3 processes running on our website so once we had 24 for the 6 emails that goes over our limit of 25 and our website goes down. For now we have had to turn off most of our emails except 2 that we receive most email at which is causing major problems.
When we talked to HostGator that question was "Do you use Mac mail? Mac Mail is knowing for doing that". Since I only use Mac's I don't want to have to switch to Windows for email or use another email program like Entourage or Thunderbird. This is a frustrating issue and when I did research on Google I saw a lot of other people having this issue but didn't see any answers. Any ideas what is causing this and how I can fix it?

    Hi,
IMAP IDLE is not the problem - it is even good! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMAP_IDLE

  • Apple Mail, iMap and marking messages as read

I am using Gmail's iMap server and Apple Mail on Leopard. When I mark a message as read on Apple Mail it gets marked on the server, but the other way round doesn't work i.e. if I mark a message as read on the server (i.e. running Gmail in a browser) it doesn't appear marked as read on my Mac. Is there something wrong here or is this how it is meant to work (it certainly works properly on my iPhone).

There is something wrong there all right. I am having the same problem.
In my home imac, I leave Mail open when I leave for work. During the day I may access gmail via the web interface, read and/or delete some e-mails, that sort of quite normal things. When I come home, Mail in the iMac has not detected any of the changes.
This used to work with Tiger without any problems, Mail simply saw all the changes as one would expect. Definite regression, and it would be nice to have it fixed somehow...

  • I'm about ready to migrate everything to google and gmail. Once again, the iCloud iMap server is rejecting my password and refusing to get my mail. This has happened dozens of times since iCloud went live. My password has NEVER been changed.

I'm about ready to migrate everything to google and gmail. Once again, the iCloud iMap server is rejecting my password and refusing to get my mail. This has happened dozens of times since iCloud went live. My password has NEVER been changed. The same password works flawlessly in iTunes store and Apple store. Somebody please give me a reason NOT to cut bait on iCloud.

iCloud Mail is down.  Has been for a while.  I would hope this will be resolved soon.
I agree with you.  iCloud does not seem to have anywhere near a 99.9% uptime.  :-)

  • Can't edit a draft in mail when it's stored on IMAP Server

There's two kinds of draft folders in Mail: one's called "Local", the other is in the Folder that mirrors my IMAP Account.
When I click on a draft mail in the latter one, it opens, but I cannot edit it. Anyway to change that?
Otherwise I'm not able to keep my draft mails synchronized
    Thanks for your help

I know this doesn't answer your question, exactly, but Mail has always had problems with drafts folder store on IMAP server, at least with Gmail accounts.
When writing a new mail message, for example, Mail.app starts saving versions of it to the IMAP server's drafts folder every couple of minutes. Next thing you know you've got like 17 versions in the drafts folder, and they'll usually get cleared out when you send the message off, but then it moves those drafts to the IMAP server's trash folder. It's kind of insane. And that behavior has persisted through many versions of Mail.app.

  • Syncing Mobile Mail draft messages to /Drafts in Gmail over IMAP

    I'm using IMAP with Googlemail.
Can anyone tell me how to set my iPod touch's Mail account to save drafts to /Drafts on the IMAP server? Currently it saves to [Google Mail]/Drafts even though under Incoming Settings, IMAP Path Prefix is set to / .
    Thanks.

Well, I don't know how, but after removing all the accounts on my Pre (manually), manually backing up what remained to my Synergy/Palm Profile account, running WebOS Doctor once more and then re-adding all my accounts manually, Gmail is working again.  I can't say exactly what fixed it, but man, what a pain!
Oh, and on a side note - nice going with the 2010 EAS (Exchange) calendar FAIL, Palm.  I really appreciate that "little" bug too. *Rant off*

  • Can access mail on home IMAP server from work, but not at home

At home I have an Xserve running Snow Leopard Server with IMAP service enabled. This runs all my personal email. Even Gmail and iCloud accounts have their incoming mail forwarded to that server, because I prefer to house my own data. I have dynamic DNS with an MX record. The Xserve also runs DNS and resolves "imap.myip.net" to the internal IP address of the Xserve, and, when I am and work, "imap.myip.net," through the dynamic DNS service, resolves to the outside IP address I have through my ISP. My router forwards external requests on Port 993 to the Xserve internally.
Until recently, I could move my MacBook Pro between home and work and access my email without problems in either place. It appears that since the 10.8.2 update, I can no longer access my email from home, where I am on the same subnet as my IMAP server. When at home, Mail accesses external email servers (Gmail and my work account) without problems. For the accounts on my home IMAP server, the Mail Connection Doctor states that the IMAP server could not be contacted.
However, I can clearly ping it from my MacBook Pro, which means that it is reachable and that my internal DNS is working.
I just fired up my work VPN, and, sure enough, messages that Mail hadn't been able to collect are trondling into my Inbox. In other words, when making Mail access my mail server through the Internet there is no problem.
Even before the Mountain Lion update I found that I had to relaunch Mail when I returned home from work, or Mail couldn't connect to the mail server. It seemed like Mail cached the resolved IP address it had gotten at work, which is the external IP address of my home network, and failed to re-resolved the address of the IMAP server once I woke up the computer, after getting back home. Quitting Mail and relaunching it did resolve that, but it was annoying.
I have never worked with Little Snitch, but it might provide some answers as to what Mail is attempting to do, when it is failing to access the server. Do any of you agree or recognize this issue and have a solution?

It looks like a simple reboot fixed the problem.
Mac OS X is, by and large, so stable that I don't even consider rebooting as a troubleshooting step. There have been a number of application glitch that required a quit and re-launch to fix them, but that didn't do the trick with Mail. Very possibly reconfiguring everything from scratch had something to do with the fix, but in a way that required it to be combined with a reboot.

  • Repeated connection to Gmail imap server problem.

I get this message everytime I try to get my Gmail account emails, in Apple Mail: 'The mail server "imap.gmail.com" is not responding.  Verify that you have entered the correct account info in Mail settings." My account info is correct. I didn't change anything and all my settings are correct as far as I know. It first started happening on my iPhone, now on my iMac as well.  I've tried specifying the gmail imap server (in quotes above) in the mail settings for my Gmail account, but to no avail.  MANY people are having the same problem (google it if you don't believe me).  Can anyone help?

Thank you for your advice, but I did that.... Perhaps 5 times with 2 step verification, 4 without. Finally I Tried changing incoming server to imap.googlemail.com as suggested elsewhere. It just started working within the last 3 minutes!!!!!!! I've been slaving over this computer for hours because of this. The outage may have started it, but seems something new took over. Who knows.

  • Can't setup MAIL account on iMac no IMAP server

Can't setup MAIL account on iMac no IMAP server. Says I have wrong SMTP server. I"m using a iMac version 10.9.4.  MavericksHere is an example for you. I'm trying to set up Time Warner Cable mail account. I have Gmail, iCLoud and Yahoo mail. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Try setting it up with these servers: https://www.timewarnercable.com/en/residential-home/support/faqs/faqs-internet/e -mailacco/incoming-outgoing-server-addresses.html
You can edit the SMTP server by choosing Edit SMTP server list from the popup menu (Outgoing Mail server).

  • Mail stopped picking up new mail from IMAP server [MDaemon]

I've been using Mail to pick up my mail from a number of different mail accounts (MobileMe, Gmail and work mail). Everything has worked fine until a couple of weeks ago when mail stopped picking up new mail from my work mail account.
I have tried deleting the mail account and setting it up again - all that did was to lose the cached mail on my machine, although it picked up the folders from the imap server and it's looking in the folders for mail [I can see that from the Activity Window]. It also seems not to delete everything as, when I went to set it up again, the email address field was already defaulted to the one for the account I had previously deleted.
I then tried creating a new user on my laptop and setting up the work mail account under this user. It worked perfectly - it went off and got all of the mail from the server (OK by me) and started picking up the mail OK.
So I'm guessing that if I can really delete the mail fully from my main user, I could reintroduce it and all would be well. However, I've scanned the whole disk for my email address and deleted (after backing up) all files I found with the address in. Again, it still seemed to know about the account I removed.
    Anyone any ideas?

    Hello Linds,
    No need to redo everything.
Is your gMail POP or IMAP?
It's likely just a Port# or authentication method not really the Password.
