Gmail Message "Cannot Get Mail. The connection to the server failed"
Curious if anyone else has seen the "cannot get mail" message pop up when using the iphone 4 mail in iOS. I only get it for my gmail and only when I select the all inboxes option. When I select only the gmail account, I don't see this pop up. My email downloads fine, but for some reason this message continues to show up every time I access it. Starting to get annoying.
Any solution as to how to keep this from popping up. Maybe changing something within the gmail account setup or preferences on the iphone?

HI, I just bought an iPhone 4S. Although my iPad and other iPhone 3GS connect to our server (SBS2003) I cannot get through. It checks all items in the connection and then I get the message :Cannot get mail, the connection to the server failed." I Tried everything, rebooting, reset all iPhone, etc. All Apple devices work perfectly expect mine. Please advise
Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Additional things to try.
Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
On your iPad go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings and see if that enables you to connect.
If none of the above suggestions work, look at this link.

Bummer Message: Cannot Get Mail The user name or passowrd for "
I have had the iPad 2 for one week and was able to access two gmail accounts (mine and my wife's). . . until this morning when one of them (mine) starting giving me the message: "Cannot Get Mail The user name or password for "####" is incorrect." The other gmail account is still accessible. So what is the solution--if any?
If your having problems sending email - go into your email settings and see if you can enter a password for your outgoing mail server same password as your incoming mail server.

How do I fix my phone? I cannot get mail-I only get the message that the conncection to the server failed.
Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss) -

can't get mail iphone5s only no problem with ipad2 or MacBook Pro why?
Does this happen on wifi, cellular or both? I have a Comcast account and have been using it on my iPhone for quite some time. At first, years ago, you could not use it to send mail, but they have changed that. Make sure you have entered your username and password in all sections of the account, including where the iPhone says "optional".
Your error indicates troubles with the incoming mail server. Go back to your account and make sure the username and password are in each section, make sure SSL is turned on, authentication is password and the server port is 995. FYI for outgoing mail, it is the SMTP server, and that also needs to have username and password entered, SSL turned on, authentication is password, and the server port is 465.
See if that helps. -
I have not been able to connect to the internet on my iPhone and iPad the past 36 hours.Went to the Apple store today and he said that maybe it will come back on it's own. That is the first time that I have been to the apple store with a disappointing resolve. Please help, there has to be an answer?
Your post says you have an iPhone 3G. Is it running iOS 4.2.1, which is the latest iOS it can run? Even if so, it's now quite old (nearly five years). That could be part of the problem.
Anyway, maybe you should delete your mail account (Settings >> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -- if it was still called that back in the iOS 4.2.1 days), and start over.
Here's the Mail Setup Assistant to help you do that:

I am getting an error message "cannot get mail the connection to the server failed" on my iphone5
This is happening intermittantly, for no apparent reason. I still received emails via my macbookpro, imac and ipad, so it's a problem with the iphone5. Sometimes it resolves itself, but it's frustrating and annoying. I'm using Exchange and I have deleted the account and added it again, I've enabled Airplane mode and switched it off again, I've powered the phone down and switched it back on again, nothing works. Please help!
go to settings>mail>select email>delete email>add the email and once you have added all your emails again access the mail app again.

This problem occurs with both my 5S phone and iPad 3.

On my I pad Mini I keep getting the message "Cannot get Mail" The connection to the server has failed.
But this is not the case everything works OK so why do I get the messageAn iOS fluke or mail app glitch maybe. Not sure anyone will know why you get it. Do you're ever close the mail app? Try closing it and reset the iPad and see if the message goes away.
Assuming that you are running iOS 7, in order to close apps, you drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the Mail app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
