Gmail messages not showing in Apple Mail

My employer just got me a brand new 15" MBP (Oct. 2013 model), running Mavericks 10.9.1.  I'm going to use my old 2009 13" MBP for home use.  I used Mail.app to view my work email and gmail accounts on my old computer.  I had gmail configured in POP, with the idea of not deleting any messages from the gmail server so I could go back if I ever needed to to find a message.  Well now I want to keep my email synced between devices, so I configured gmail as IMAP.  After about 3 days of continuous downloading, I had the IMAP gmail set up (over 50,000 messages).  It was working fine.
I also have a lot of old messages from an old work email account that I like to keep in Mail.app for reference.  I imported these from my old Mac to the new mac.  No problem.  But after I did that, my gmail mailbox showed an unread message count of 50,000 + whatever it was, but no messages were displayed.  Unfortunately, I don't have a timemachine backup for this new computer.  I deleted the Envelope Index file in the Library/Mail/V2/MailData folder, as someone suggested in a different post and re-imported all messages, but this didnt work.
I have a time machine external drive with my old computer's backups.   With the backup drive plugged into my new computer and with Mail.app active, I can click on the time machine icon at the top and select "Browse other backup disks...".  I select the old backup drive and it will first show "Today" with the Mail.app open.  I can see all my gmail messsages here.  Time machine says "Click restore to recover the inbox for Gmail"  or something like that.  But the "Restore" button is grayed out, cause it's today.
I messed around with .plist and things in the Mail libraries, but nothing changed.  Somewhere in my messing around with things, the message count went away.  the mailbox setting have not been changed from what they were previously.  I know all my messages are still on my mac cause the "[email protected]" folder is still 8.51 GB, which is what it should be.
I was able to import all the gmail emails in to mail via File->Import Mailboxes..., but this puts everything in it's own Import folder and not in the gmail inbox.
Also I can't receive new messages in gmail via Mail.app.
My work email (also set up as IMAP) is working just fine.
I don't want to remove the gmail account and reinstall, spending another 3 or 4 days downloaded all the messages (I don't know why it took that long).
Any help is appreciated.

I "fixed" the problem by copying the entire mail folder from the library on my old mac onto my new mac, replacing the newer mail folder.  My old mac had gmail working just fine.  Now everything works on my new.  This didn't really fix the problem though.  I'm not sure what was wrong with it.

    Not sure if this is a fix, but I tried sending myself a test email from only  the Bcc field, and lo and behold it now shows the Bcc field in all sent item previews;
...maybe leaving the 'To' field blank on purpose forced Mail to show it.
Rebooted the Mail program, still there - rebooted the machine, still there. Hope this is still relevant and it works for you too - J.

  • Gmail suddenly not working with Apple Mail

My gmail suddenly is not working with Apple Mail.
It said my username or password is wrong, but it was okay this morning.
Nevertheless, I deleted my gmail account, and re-setup it using Internet Accounts from System Preference.
However, I got the beow message:
There was a problem setting up the Mail account. An unknown error occurred.
I am sure my username and password are correct because I just login it using Safari.
Does anyone know what the cause is?
    Please help~~~

Gmail not syncing in mac mail is a problem that is also in snow leopard since the new year.
OSX 10.6.8  is the highest OS that will run on an Intel Core 2 Duo.  Do not try to install Mavericks on this machine! I will install, but turns it into a dinosaur and many programs will no longer run.
I had an issue with Mac Mail not syncing with imap.gmail.com. and Safari not being able to find apple.com.
This was resolved by working with an upper level tech support member for several hours deleating particular system library files, uninstalling most addons, reseting system network settings and a whole lot more! (too much to name here)
    Thank you Apple Tech Support.

  • Gmail is not working with Apple Mail

I am trying to get my Gmail account working through IMAP in Apple Mail on the Mountain Lion operating system.  I have a brand new MacBook Pro, and it is frustrating to not have this working.
When I attempt to set up my account, I get the below message:
The Google IMAP server “imap.gmail.com” is not responding. Try checking the network connection, and that the server name is correct. Otherwise, the server might be temporarily unavailable. If you continue, you might not be able to receive messages.
I know the server is working because I am able to get into Gmail everywhere else.  It sounds like other people may also have this problem.  Does anyone have a solution for this?

  • Emails not showing in Apple Mail inbox.

    Hi All,
I can see emails being pulled into my inbox in Apple Mail but the inbox appears to be  empty. The only way I can view them is to create a smart folder.
I've checked the Junk and Trash but they're not there.
Rebuilding the Inbox and deleting the preference file make no difference.
I've also removed and readded the account.
I'm using IMAP in Lion (I also have a Mountain Lion iMac but that's okay).
Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome to my confusing and problematic world. We currently have 20-odd users on the Google Apps domain. 3 of them are using Apple Mail to access their mail. 1 is having problems. The only thing different about this user is that we imported messages in from Outlook using the Google mail importer. This is the only thing I can think. The importer seemed to ignore certain folders, even if we retried, and it created folders as inbox/insurance_ etc. I changed all the folders to INBOX in caps, as that is what Mail preferred, and removed the trailing underscore.
This is the only thing different about this user.
On a web browser looking at Gmail, I have:
    Inbox
    Starred
    Sent Mail
    Drafts
    [Imap]Drafts
    Apple Mail To Do
    Deleted Items
    Deleted Messages
    Follow Up
    INBOX/folder1
    INBOX/folder2
    INBOX/folder2/folder1
    etc...
    INBOX/Folder113
    Junk E-mail
    Misc
    Priority
    Sent Messages
4 More (containing Chats, All Mail, Spam, Bin)
I did another "Account Info" and got this: http://gallery.me.com/rtaxerxes/100023/Screen%20shot%202009-11-04%20at%2010.19.5 9%20PM
You'll notice, now it does have an Inbox. But the folders it says are 0 messages and 0 KB do actually have stuff in them on the web browser.

  • "Save" and "Quick Look" buttons not showing in Apple Mail

Dear list members, in Apple Mail on my new iMac, the buttons "Save" and "Quick Look" are not showing in the messages. That's very odd, because I can see those buttons in my old mac normally. I tried one solution proposed in another thread (Mail>Preferences>View>Details>All) but it didn't work. Could you please help me? Thank you.

Sorry, if I'm mistaken, but I thought this was the OSX forum. In my title bar, I see:

  • GMail is not working with Apple Mail App: Login correct, says "no e-mails"?

    HI everyone,
I just switched from my iPhone 5 to a new iPhone 6 Plus running iOS 8.1.2. After I put the latest backup to the new device everything was set up fine. Unfortunately Google Mail doesn't work with the Apple Mail App any more.
I have two factor identification switched on and use the 16 digit long password which I set up with my Google account. The configuration details work (login, password, server details), the account is accepted, no notifications tell me that anything is wrong. The thing is, that the Apple Mail App doesn't show any mails. Also it's impossible to send any emails. The strange thing is, that the GMail App works fine.
I really tried everything: deleted the account setup, changed mail server from m.google.com to smtp.google.com, set up a new app specific password through two factor identification... no emails appear!
With my iPhone 5 I was a lucky user of push email, thanks to Microsoft ActiveSync. So I keep trying to configure the GMail account as an Exchange account (I know that Google switched off ActiveSync some time ago, until now everything worked fine with my iPhone 5, even push mail worked!).
Does anyone of you know how to solve the problem? I don't like the GMail App and really prefer using the iOS Mail App..
    Thanks in advance!

  • Gmail POP not working with Apple mail

    Hi
I normally have no problem downloading emails from gmail onto mail.
Unfortunately from yesterday onwards the emails stopped downloading. This occurred suddenly, and I'm not sure why. This has happened once before, and I managed to fix it, but I'm not sure how i did it. Has anyone experience the same, or does anyone have a solution?
    Cheers
    Bishan

I've seen this problems posted all over the show with no replies, but in one forum the answer was given. Simply go to settings in Gmail, and switch off "enable POP" and save. Then switch it on again. And you can now receive emails.
    Thanks
    Bishan

  • Gmail mailboxes not showing up in Mail

In Mail, I see all of the mailboxes for "on my mac" but there is nothing for Gmail. At the top there's a place showing my Gmail inbox, but nothing showing any folders. Not even "Gmail" with an arrow to click. It's just "on my mac" and "RSS". I've looked at numerous discussions and made sure all of the settings are correct both in Mail and in my Gmail account. I even deleted the account and re-added it. I also have other e-mails linked to Mail, and none of them have any mailboxes that show up. When I try and add a new mailbox, having it under Gmail or any other e-mail account other than "on my mac" isn't even an option. My end goal is to add the mailboxes from "on my mac" into Gmail. Help!!

Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.

  • To line not showing in Apple Mail header

Suddenly only the From, Subject, and Date line is showing in Mail 5.2.
How do I get the To line to display?

I may be confused as to what you're experiencing.
Are you missing the 'To' field in the Message viewer window (as shown in the screenshot I posted) or the 'To' field in the header of an email message (where you would write the recipients name)?
If the former, I thought you said the 'From' field was showing in the window, isn't that right? But in any case, it doesn't have to be the 'From' field. Hold down 'control' and click on the name of any field in the message viewer window and you'll get the same menu.

  • Messages located in sub folders do not show in iPad Mail

Using iPad mail with Microsoft Exchange sync works great at the inbox level but any messages that are in sub folders do not show up in Mail on the iPad. All of the sub folders show up but do not show messages. In addition, I am not able to collapse the parent folders, the result is a very long list of empty folders. The exception is emails that I move to the folders on the iPad do show up if the folder is selected on the iPad. Looking for solution.

Has anyone else noticed the following?
I've synchronized with Exchange and am noticing some odd mail behaviour:
    - I have folders in my PC Outlook inbox
    - when I have mail open on my ipad, and a new message comes in, if I happen to be an a subfolder (example a special folder for messages from my boss or whatever) all the new mail goes to that folder instead of the inbox.
    - even weirder, it stays there when I go back to my PC and Outlook.
Not very useful long term since I end up with seriously misfiled mail...

  • Gmail with iPhone (Exchange) push & Apple Mail IMAP

Hi, I've managed to get a Gmail account going on an iPhone using the Exchange protocol. Push is working fine. I use Apple Mail to access the same Gmail account via IMAP.
When I reply to a message using the iPhone, the Replied flag (the little 180-degree U-turn arrow symbol) shows up next to the message in iPhone Mail, but this flag doesn't appear in Apple Mail. Likewise, if I reply to the message using Apple Mail, the Replied flag shows up in Apple Mail but not in iPhone Mail.
Basically, I would like push email, but would like the Replied flags to be shown correctly between the email programs.
I've tested this using a few other potential settings with the following results:
    * Attempt [1]: iPhone Mail accessing Gmail using the IMAP protocol (no push); Apple Mail using the IMAP protocol (push via IMAP-idle): If a message is replied using the iPhone, the Read & Replied flags are not synced to Apple Mail. However, flags produced using Apple Mail are brought across to iPhone Mail. BUT, if Apple Mail is quit & started up again, the proper Read & Replied flags are shown.
    * Attempt [2]: iPhone Mail accessing Gmail using the pre-made Gmail settings (no push); Apple Mail using the IMAP protocol (push via IMAP-idle): Same results as Attempt [1].
    * Attempt [3]: iPhone Mail accessing Gmail using Exchange (push); Apple Mail using the Exchange protocol: Can't seem to get Apple Mail working at all. Tried all sorts of settings, but no luck.
    * Attempt [4]: iPhone Mail accessing another non-Gmail server using IMAP (no push); Apple Mail using IMAP (push via IMAP-idle): Reading & replying to messages using the iPhone or Apple Mail will always correctly show the Replied flags on the other platform.
    * Attempt [5]: iPhone Mail accessing MobileMe using pre-made MobileMe settings (push); Apple Mail using MobileMe (push): Reading & replying to messages using the iPhone or Apple Mail will always correctly show the Replied flags on the other platform.
So the only way to get push email happening with correct syncing of the flags between email programs is to use MobileMe. It doesn't seem possible using Gmail, unless someone can tell me the Exchange server settings for Apple Mail so that it can be tested.

That's the way it works with Exchange, and there's no workaround until Apple fixes it. It's the same for 'regular' Exchange accounts - the replied/forwarded tags applied by the iPhone Mail app aren't seen by Outlook, and vice versa.
You can submit feedback to Apple: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html.

  • How do I get gmail to display correctly in Apple Mail?

We sync our Google email to Apple's Mail app on the Mac, iPad, and iPhone. The mail does not display correctly, the text keeps going and cuts off so you have to swipe to the right to reveal the rest of the message. We are syncing gmail through IMAP. Does anyone know how to get Gmail to display correctly with Apple Mail?

Same here. I'm using office 2013. It is hard to believe, That there is still no solution for that problem. Parallels desktop and office 2013 lets you dictate, Though there is still no way to get the  new line or new paragraph
command to get to work in word or outlook. Do you think this isn't a apple issue or a Microsoft issue? On Windows in the ordinary editor the commands work well.
I actually changed to mac for this killerfeature and i really need it. Now it does not work in the most common office app..
