Gmail new format in Imac mail

Hello All,
In mail on my ipad I can see all my folders.
However recently this view has gone missing on my imac..
So I can see my inbox, but all my other folders, where I want to store things away from my inbox have disappeared.
I dont know if this is a GMAIL thing or an apple mail thing but I am a bit flumoxed.
I know they are there as I can see them in my ipad.
Please help
Thanks
YM18

Provided you have set the account up as IMAP, the folders should be accessible. In the sidebar on the left, do you see the account name (it might just say "Gmail") down below the usual mailboxes? Hover your mouse over it, and if you see the word "Show", click that to see all the server folders.

Totally hate it with a passion.  Can only see 4 e-mails at a time  But you can Sure see the ADVERTISEMenT S to the  left of e-mails   Oh that's right you can click on to make it bigger   Yea   sometimes it works and most time not.  WHY   WHY   WHY   did you change it.   Maybe it would be better for me to change services   Not happy at all.  Automatically the check bounces down to the next one to delete or whatever even if your not wanting to.  You have to go SLOWER to make sure your not deleting something you want to keep.     Who ever got the raise for instituting this needs to lose it.  Definitely hate it.

It sounds like you are referring to the "Rich" Interface. This isn't really new, it's been available for months.
If you don't like the Rich interface, you can always switch to the "Basic" Interface and see if you like it better. There should be a link at the top that says "Basic Interface" - Click it and it will switch you. (And don't worry, if you decide you don't like Basic you can switch back to Rich the same way.)
To give you an idea of what the link looks like:

  • How to sync iphone 5 contacts to iMac Mail?

How can I sync my iPhone 5 contacts to my iMac so I can use the contacts when writing emails from iMac Mail?
I have backed up my iPhone to the iMac however I cannot find a way to transfer the contents of my contacts from the phone to the iMac.
Please help??  I am having to type in the email address each and every time I write a new email from iMac Mail. Very frustrating.
I'm sure there's an easy way to do this.  I just cannot work it out.

    Hello Linda.Ven,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you'd like to have your contacts sync between your iPhone and iMac, then I highly recommend using iCloud.  It will seamlessly keep your contacts, and other data if you choose, up to date across all of your capable devices.  If you'd like to learn more about how to set up iCloud, please see the link below.

  • Recently downloaded Mavericks to my iMac to replace OS X 10.9.2, everything good except can I revert to the look of "Mail" on Mountain Lion, new format not detailed enough?      by Cozzie

Recently downloaded mavericks to my imac, to update OS X 10.9.2., everything went good except would like to revert to the previous format for mail.....new format does not separate inboxes etc.  I hear it can be done, any ideas how to do that?

    Hi bhcozzie,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
You can change the preferences for Mail in the Viewing tab to Use classic layout if that layout is more familiar to you.

  • Does GMail Labels (Folders) Propogate to the iMac Mail Application?

When I create new labels or folders on my GMail web page these folder appear on my iPhone mail app. They don't however show up on my iMac mail application, which is set up with the same GMail account. I have IMAP enabled. How can I get these folders to mirror on the GMail server, iMac mail and iPhone mail?

you have to enable the labels to show in imap from gmail webmail interface (settings->labels). then they will show up in the imap section of Mail.

Having problem with gmail smtp outgoing server.  Since going to google 2-step, and entering 16-digit code in gmail account, I can receive mail on my iMac, but cannot send.  I keep getting an error message that Mail "Cannot send message using Gmail (my assigned name) server."  What do I do?

    Confirm you did this: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/1173270?hl=en
You might also try removing all gmail passwords from your keychain in Keychain Access. Then connect again and enter the password code given by Google.

  • Mac mail/creating new format style

    Hi all,
I sometimes send emails with a good amount of copy ( I have my compose preference set to RTF). I notice that the default format style for macmail is Left aligned, Spacing 1.0x. (no leading or 'set solid'). I'd like to create a new 'favorite style' that includes the basic type 'Geneva' and flush left alignment but with more leading, maybe '2.0' so that the copy is more readable. I go to the menu Format-->Style-->Styles. A styles info box comes up:
Can anyone tell me how to create a new format style with greater leading than the
default style then add it to favorites? Will a person who receives my email who is using a different email client necessarily receive the formatting I am sending?
I hope I'm not missing something obvious. lol.
Also, if anyone knows the html code that would center my image in this email, please pass that along as well. I tried the <center> tags but they didn't work.
Thanks in advance for any input.
    Regards,
    Dennis

Replying to myself to add some more information, and ask some additional questions:
Poking around, I have found some information -- a few years old, unfortunately -- that seems to indicate that you cannot create aliases to associate with a mac.com account. What I may have to do is add an address in the primary account, in the Email Address field of the Account Information tab, where she currently has this:
    [email protected], [email protected]
If that works, that'll be great, but one flaw in this method is that you can't specify a different sender name. Her customers at "herdomain.com" will still just see her name, Jane Doe, when what she really wants in the sender field for that e-mail address is "Jane Doe, Director, Her Domain Inc."
Can anyone verify if I am finally understanding this correctly? Or if there is something else I can do to get her that alternate identity on her mac.com account?
    Thanks.

  • Gmail no longer pushes new messages to Apple Mail in Mavericks

I Googled [gmail push Mavericks OR 10.9 "use idle command"], and restricted results to the last year; absolutely nothing came up, so I decided to post this:
Gmail seems to no longer push email to Apple Mail in Mavericks—at least for me.
In OS 10.8 and before, enabling "Use IDLE command if the server supports it" caused Gmail to instantly push new emails to Apple Mail.  No longer.
With the new "Check for new messages Automatically" option, new messages aren't coming in at all, or with severe delays (I don't recall which).  When I change it to "Check for new messages Every minute," it checks every minute, which is okay, but not what I had in previous OSs: instant pushing of new messages.
Has anyone managed to solve this problem?
Or does anyone at least know what's causing the problem, and whether it's potentially fixable?

Nevermind. I am blind as a bat. I found the answer. There's an option under VIEWING in the preferences for Display unread messages with boldl font. I don't know why that is unchecked.

Same here on an older iMac since Lion. Thanks for the uncheck wake for network access tip though, it doesn't do it either in that case, I will leave it that way.

    Hello there dinadinadina,
It sounds like you have modified the password settings for your Gmail account after changing the password. Thats where I would have started too. Next I would restart the device and test it one more time, and then remove and add the account again in Settings:
Get help with Mail on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
    Restart your iOS device.
Delete the affected email account from your device.
Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
    Tap the affected email account.
    Tap Delete Account.
    Add your account again.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,

  • Gmail desktop new format comes up in Firefox as Android format, unreadable on desktop computer. Why? Changed to Safari for readable Gmail.

I have used Firefox for many years for my Gmail account. The system changed over yesterday afternoon, and does not provide an option to change back to old format. Format is VERY tiny and completely unreadable. There is not obvious setting feature to change this. i was forced to open a new Safari browser in order to use my Gmail account, as it is not usable in the new format in Firefox.

hello cmbryan, try to press ctrl+0 ('zero') while you're on the page in order to reset the zoom level or in case this doesn't work also [[Clear the cache - Delete temporary Internet files to fix common website issues|clear the cache]] & [[Delete cookies to remove the information websites have stored on your computer|cookies from google.com]] and reload the page.

  • HT4855 iMac mail open and mouse has frozen on screen, new batteries in mouse..no change. turning iMac off and back on ..no change. need advice asap

Imac mail open and mouse has frozen on screen...please advise?

The Mac uses an "All devices active" philosophy with pointing devices and keyboards.
If you have additional pointing devices attached, especially a graphics tablet, it is still directing mouse operations at the same time as the mouse you have your hand on. The end result is the SUM of commands from all such devices.

  • Yosemite imac mail

Running yosemite 10.10 on my iMac.  Mail does fetch new emails.
Can this be fixed?  How can I download a new version of the Mail app for my iMac?

    My error.  I had used:
    https://miapple.me/fixing-mac-os-x-10-10-yosemite-gmail-bug-mail-app/
but did not realize that my Gmail account needed to be put back on line.
In the Mail app, next to the Google inbox was a small icon on the right hand side.
I clicked on it and it asked me if I wanted to put Google back on line.
Now Mail is fetching new emails correctly.

  • Added Gmail as POP to Apple Mail now downloading all old emails.

Is there any way to stop downloading old gmail emails, or get them to download faster. If I use my iPhone 4 it just downloads my new e-mails from gmail. However, I added my Gmail account to my iMac Apple Mail s a POP account and now it is downloading every email that I have ever received in Gmail. So far over 5000 messages about seven at a time and I am only up to December 2007!
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the feedback.
On closer inspection there is an option on the Gmail POP setting page (in Gmail) to choose "Mail from today"!!!!! Moral of story is to RTFM
Again many thanks for taking the trouble to reply.

  • How do I sign out of my gmail account from my imac

Hello, I'm new to apple imac. How do I sign out/logg off out of my gmail e-mail account so that any & everyone who sits at me computer can open the mail app and read all of my e-mails?

I don't think you can log out of Mail, it's either launched and available or it isn't.
What I was suggesting is creating a totally separate Mac user account/accounts for other users of your Mac. When you use it you log in as you and have access to all your files/folders/emails/photos/music, etc. When you're done you log out of your account on the Mac from the Apple Menu, top left of the screen (this will prevent access to all your files by someone else). When someone else might want to use the computer they log in to their account or you may create a generic account for all other casual users. The instructions above explains how to create this secondary account on your Mac.
If you wish, you can also set the screen to require your password when it wakes up, which would also stop other people having access to your Mac once the screen saver has kicked in: System Preferences>Security & Privacy>General tab.
System Preference can be found under the Apple menu (top left), on the Dock (normally) or in the Applications folder.
