Gmail not working in wifi networks other than my own.

Hey all,
I've been having this problem ever since I got my 1G iPod Touch. At home using my own wifi the Mail app works fine (it is set up with my Gmail using SSL and Google's own steps for setting it up with a touch). Whenever I am out (at school, a mall, etc) and am using another wifi connection the app is not able to connect to Gmail. I get the "Cannot connect using SSL" error, but when I login to Gmail from Safari from those same networks there is no error.
Any ideas what is going on here?

It is unusual that you can't connect via open networks but it might be something that the network owner/operator has done by blocking certain ports in their firewall. The web uses port 80 and it would be pretty useless to block that so it never is. All other ports are fair game as the operator may have experienced some problems and blocked them. Talk to the administrators of these networks.

Can Mail work on a network other than my home?

Hi all,
I apologize up front if this is a really basic question.
The program Mail works great for me at home. But, when I take my laptop to my office, or I use it at a coffee shop, or wherever, I can't send emails. It'll access the server and get emails, but I can't send them. My mac email is IMAP, rather than POP, if that makes a difference.
Is this something that I should be able to do, or does Mail need to be hooked up to my home network to work properly?

It sounds like you're trying to use an SMTP server for your outgoing mail that doesn't work away from home. As an anti-spam measure, some ISPs only allow the use of their outgoing mail servers from computers within their network. When you're away from home that test fails.
In some cases it's possible to change your SMTP server settings so that you authenticate via password instead of location. Check with your ISP for more details.

When viewing PDF files in a window in firefox the popup control bar for zoom, print,page up or down does not work. Any suggsetions other than stop opening up pdf files in a firefox window and have them open in adobe reader?

IMovie - movies will not play on any computer other than my own

I'm using an iMac G5 running OSX 10.3 and the resultant quicktime movie generated from a movie edit will only play on my computer. They will not play on any other machine, PC, Mac - even identical iMac G5s running OSX 10.3 like mine.
I get error messages such as:
'This movie file "Fade In 02" cannot be found. Without this file, the movie cannot play properly'
'Error - 128: an unknown error occurred'
The "Fade In 02" must be referring to the fading in section of my film but I have no idea why it can't be found.
Am I omitting some necessary action when creating the movie ?
Does anyone else get this problem?

Suggest that you crosspost in one of the iMovie Forums where all the iMovie users hang out. Hopefully, one of the knowledgeable users over there will see your post & help you out.
To play on a PC, change the title of the movie title "Fade In 02" to show like this--> FadeIn02.mov or use a suffix of whatever player the PC has.
See if that works.

Since you have already done some sort of reset on your Airport Express, you might as well make sure it was a "hard reset" - follow the instructions for a hard reset found at:

Since your Mac is running Leopard, you need to configure the Airport Express using the Airport Utility found in the Applictions->Utilities folder. You cannot install the old software that was supplied on the CD you got with the Airport Express.
In future - if you do something bad with network settings on your Mac, do NOT try to fix it with the Airport Utility. The Airport Utility is only used to configure the Airport Express - and since the problem you have created is on the Mac and not the Airport Express, there is no need to be using the Airport Utility and especially there is no need to be resetting the Airport Express.

When you say it "can not scan any wifi network" do you mean it is not detecting Wi-Fi networks?
Is Wi-Fi turned on in Settings > General > Wi-Fi?
Have you tried Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings?
Is it just the home network that the device will not connect to? or any network?

If no change after restoring the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the backup, the iPhone has a hardware problem with the wireless card or with something else.

LOL. I just posted same. It connects to my home, but when I'm at my office my phone (5) does not automatically connect to wi-fi. I have to manually do it all the time and it also keeps dropping it. A few other people here have droids, no problem. Never had an issue before the upgrade.

Check your system for possible Malware. But you have to do it in WIndows Safe Mode.
(Do not use your own Anti-virus to SCAN)
Start your computer in "Safe mode with networking", go to this link download a free version of Malwarebyte.

Install and perform update immediately, then do a full SCAN. Remove malware if it indeed finds any. Restart computer to regular windows to let Malwarebyte complete the removal.

Time Capsule not visible on WiFi network

Tried to set up a new Time Capsule via the airport utility but it will not identify a Wifi Network to connect to (objective is to enlarge the network, rather than to establish a new network). There is already an older model of time capsule connected to the same router via WiFi to enlarge the network and it works well.
Is it really the only solution to connect the time capsule to the router via Cable and establish the connection like that? (That would be exactly what we do not want - another cable) Multiple resets to factory settings did not solve the issue. Anyone there to help? Thanks

Connected by ethernet or by wireless?? What router is it connected to?
An apple router can only extend wireless of another apple router and only once.. ie you can have a main base and one repeater.. you cannot repeat twice.
You can use EOP (homeplug) adapters if ethernet is not suitable.

It is STILL not detecting ANY wifi networks. HELP!!! I cannot afford to go over my data and I use wifi at home and work... I believe the updates have caused the issue, because it was working fine before the second update released (I hadn't put the first one one until I noticed it had stopped working, and by then the second IOS8 version had came out). They need to do a third update to fix this issue.

If it's grayed out:
Reset Network Settings - if that doesn't fix it, then Backup and Restore AS A NEW DEVICE.
If it's still grayed out, unfortunately that means your Wi-Fi antenna quit, and it needs service.

Sorry it is just not enough info to be able to figure it out.
Do a full factory reset and start over.. that is the best way out of the hole.
Using ethernet is far far superior to using wireless at least for setup.
Using iOS device with airport utility is better than using wireless via a Mac with airport utility if you have MBA or MBPr.. but it is still better to buy a usb or thunderbolt to ethernet dongle so you have actual real connection and not a vapourous one.

C3-00 Mail is not working with Wifi

I have Nokia C3-00, Its good set but the problem appeared when i tried to use my office Wifi connection in my mobile. Email and communities are not working with Wifi while messenger and browsing is very good with Wifi. However i have used Mail option (gmail, hotmail, yahoo) with my mobile GPRS connection that is working fine but not with Wifi. GPRS is very costly and i want to use office Wifi with my mobile to use email application. Please help me out. Thanks Adnan

There was an issue with messaging in the original software on the C3, so make sure that you are up-to-date. To check your software version try *#0000#
Latest software release for Nokia C3-00 is 08.63
Your service provider may not have the latest nokia version available, but make sure you have the most recent you can get.
