Gmail on 9500 Communicator

I have (more or less sucessfully) installed the laterst gmail browser on my 9500. However I cannot fathom out which keys correspond to the on-screen dialogues (such as "menu" or "refresh".
Likewise the log-on process is painful, requiring multiple key pressing to get the user name and password to enter the dialogue boxes.
Obvioulsly this version of gmail is only just functional on the 9500 ~ does anyone have some work arounds for these issues.
Cheers Nigel ~ Sydney

  • 9500 Communicator lack of support - USA

I purchased the 9500 Communicator from Dubai back in Nov 2004 while stationed overseas with the US military, when the 9500 first came out. I have been using the phone in the US without any real major issues. Being the clumsy person that I am, I have dropped the phone on several occasions. On one of those occasions the phone fell and the front face came off and so did the keypad. It was windy and the keypad flew away why it was not attached as one with the face place I have no clue, what was Nokia thinking? Still I was able to use the phone since I remembered where the numbers were on the blank keypad.
    My issue with Nokia is:
I have been trying for over two weeks to get some one in Nokia (USA, Middle East and UK) to give me a Repair Service Center's address where I can mail my communicator. I need to replace the worn/scratched/broke front and back cover as well as getting the firmware upgrade [current version I have is: 4.44(1) ] and yes, my front cover has started to flop as well.
    1) I do NOT care WHERE I have to send it, just give me an address!
    2) Yes I know that it is out of warranty and that I WILL have to pay for the service and parts, FINE I will PAY, JUST GIVE ME A PLACE TO MAIL IT TO! This is the question I have been asking for ever it seems! What part of this request is not comprehend able?
    3) Nokia’s customer support is so pathetic! All you get is the run around! Everyone is just trying to point the finger to someone else. I even tried to order just the keypad from the US and I was told there might be a difference between the US keypad and the UK version - I DO NOT THINK SO! I have been in the telecom & computer industry in both commercial & government/military for almost 15 years. It's not like the US/UK keypad is in any other language than English! The number 1 will always look like the number 1 in the UK and the US! What a lame excuse! It is like Nokia can not communicate with each other at a Global Enterprise level! Is this NOT a Global company? What type of message are you sending your customers and your investors? I mean just because there are regional subsidiaries should not mean that there is NO communications between other regions, or wait are Nokia's products NOT communications equipment? If they can sell communication equipment and can NOT communicate amongst themselves that's pretty pathetic! It is pretty sad that one customer service center has no access to the other. Have you not heard of the software like the Remedy ticketing system? It is great for supporting things like customer support even on a Global scale!
What should have been a mundane task of giving me an address has turned into a praying for a miracle to happen request! Why did this happen? Why should it go so far up to the next level? What type of changes in training is Nokia implementing if that?
Why doesn’t the Executive branch review the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) procedures to make Nokia more efficient? Do they not listen to what their customers and industry want/ need? There are so many websites that do reviews on products like Nokia phones, is there no group in Nokia that takes heed to what others think of their product and review them and if possible send those changes down to the research and development and production departments? I know I am not the smartest guy, but I think I have been around to know better on what things companies can do to create and sell their product and thus make a name and PROFIT for themselves! Currently in the US, Nokia's stock price is ONLY $4.00 (USD). I'll bet if they actually made better products, see where industry is headed, actually listened to their customers and did some really good predictive analyses in marketing they would be an even better company producing a much better product that would create a frenzy of people all over the world wanting to buy their products like the Motorola Razr mobile phone when it first came out!
It seems that everyone I have spoken to says the same thing: Nokia products are nice but they lacks features, standard operating system, availability of software, looks, and support!
Nokia is suppose to be a Global company trying to sell its products to people and companies on a Global scale. If you can NOT support your own product then how in the hell are you suppose to support your customers? I always thought that the 9500 Communicator was Nokia's top of the line product? Well if that being the case then Nokia SHOULD have top notch support for this product! If Nokia is suppose to be the Mercedes of mobile phones well act like it then! If you can not support your high end system then why produce it in the first place? There should be tons of competent technical support professionals, options, upgrades and accessories etc... if you want to make Nokia into an industry leader then you need to have a product that works well and is sought after not only by customers but also by your OWN employees and is supported well and get some real talented minds to think of some newer things to integrate in your phone lines. Basically the Communicator series should have EVERYTHING that the mobile business customer needs on the road without having to carry around a laptop!
Maybe on the NEXT version/ generation of Communicators they would have:
    Vibrate mode
    Voice recognition
Operating system should be Microsoft windows mobile based
More local storage especially for MP3s
    Use ring tones
2.0 or greater Mega pixel camera
    Mini USB connector
    USB 2.0
    Programmable soft keys
    Newer Bluetooth for stereo headsets
A lit keypad for when the cover is open
An external keyboard that folds and you can use for emails/ SMS
    802.11 (b/g/n) support with WAP/ WEP encryption
Colored face and back plates that are interchangeable
Touch screen would be an improvement
    Larger capacity internal memory
Ability to block calls that were Unknown, or originate from blocked numbers, certain numbers/ certain area codes etc...

    Hi
    http://www.apps.nokia.co.uk/clubnokiaservice/
If you key in 'London' into the search box, you should get a list of Nokia service companies who should be able to help.
Although I'm not in London I have used similar 3rd party companies to do chargable repairs (eg when hinges broke!)
You could try calling some of the them to see how they might be able to help.
    Good luck!!

  • Searching for My lost Nokia 9500 Communicator

    Hi.
    Thanks for your support.
I lost my Nokia 9500 communicator two weeks ago. I have notified the police, but I haven't received any news till now. Is there any technical way to find its location and recover it?
I have backup stored in my PC. How can I preview these files on my PC to get my contacts and messages?

The only way to find the phone would be if the network (some operator) helped you to trace the phone by its IMEI number. Most operators have the knowledge to do so, but they will probably only do it if they are looking for heavy criminals.
Also the tracking from the network is made so they check which base station the phone has had contact with the last time and then try to use the signal from the other base stations to decide in which area the phone are. This method is not so precise. Depending on how close the base stations are it can be from 50 to 2000 meters that they can decide how near the phone are.
As there are many phones that get lost/stolen I think operators will not help with this ever.
Since the phone also doesn´t have any GPS hardware built-in it is impossible to say where the phone is, since the phone doesn´t know where it is.
Depending on which version version you have of PC Suite you should only be able to restore that information to another phone. Probably you somehow might be able(I´m not sure if it is possible) to open the backup with some program or convert the backup file and open it up in some other program. I suppose the names etc. will not be so well structured when you do that since there will probably be some kind of binary code "messing" the information up so it is hard to read.
Hope this clarified some things anyway!
    Regards,
    Henrik

  • 9500 communicator

my 9500 is saying "problem initialising messaging" when I start up and some apps are gone, note pops system: unable to find specified object.
I have been searching for 3 days now for the software or os for the phone but.... haven't found one... would appreciate all the help that you guys can send my way....

what firmware do you have. to get this, close the phone and key this in:
*#0000# that will tell you the firmware.
the most updated it the 5.22 (that i know of)
you could try to do a reset on the phone. if you have the rebooter software, just reboot. otherwise take the battery off the phone and then hold the power in for about 5 seconds to drain the unit completely. then insert the phone and power it back up.
if that still does not work, then back it up and try to do a reformat.
take the battery out and then hold cntrl/shift/F keys down while the phone is starting up. it will ask you to reformat your phone.

  • PC Upgrader and Nokia 9500 Communicator

If anybody hears that the 9500 can be upgraded using PC Suite, please post. Or is it possible that the 9500 cannot ever be upgraded this way. If so, I will start looking for a 3rd party to upgrade to firmware version 6.27. Despite much info about this new version on the internet and 3rd parties that will install it, NOKIA US insists that it does not exist. Understand the new web browser in the 6.27 firmware version will accept cookies that are not accepted by browser in version I have. Also blackberry support. Thus any info on how the 9500 firmware can be upgraded in the U.S. would be appreciated.

hi, well i am not in the US. but today i updated my nokia 9500 software 6.27.
Maybe this version is for Europe Africa Middle east... anyway what the service center told me, that in case this is not the latest version, they usually contact Nokia to update them with the latest software for their Nokia mobiles.
so maybe you need to either contact Nokia and ask them to send the latest software to your dealer . or ask your dealer to contact Nokia

  • Desk Note in Nokia 9500

How do you backup the Desk notes created for nokia 9500 communicator?
    AM

    Dear Colin
I hope you have the incoming and outgoing port numbers of rediffmail. The incoming is usually 110 and server is pop.rediffmail.com. This can be set up with your username and password and hope you start receiving the emails. For outgoing it may be a problem is setting up the number which is probably 25, smtp.rediffmail.com with smtp authentication. If this does not work then you can route your sending with putting in the gmail as the outgoing server (with this, although the email goes from gmail but your rediff email id will show to the recipient and you will receive the reply in rediff also).
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks

  • Nokia 9500 - Hinge Assembly Cracks Frequently

    02nd June'08
    NOKIA CUSTOMER CARE
    Dear Sir,
Please note that I have been forced to replace the hinge assembly of my Nokia 9500 Communicator repeatedly as it cracks quite frequently. Please note details of purchase and changes done as given below.
    Model - Nokia 9500 Communicator.
    Date of Purchase: 18th Jan'07
Seller: M/s. Studio Cell - TTK Road, Alwarpet, Madras - 600018. India.
Replacements of HINGE ASSEMBLY (Casing of Inner LCD).
Date: 22nd Aug'07: Service Centre - M/s. Quantum Telesys - 32 Thiru Vi Ka Road, Opposite to Satyam Theatre, Royapettah, Madras - 600014. Bill No: 340; Amount Charged: Rs.1800
Date: 03rd April'08: Service Centre - M/s. Rocky Agencies (Formerly M/s. Quantum Telesys) - 32 Thiru Vi Ka Road, Opposite to Satyam Theatre, Royapettah, Madras - 600014. Bill No: 2771; Amount Charged: Rs.1800
Now I have noticed that the same Hinge Assembly has developed crack and needs to be replaced !!!!!!
I would like to ask Nokia, how come the mobile needs frequent replacement of Hinge Assembly which cost Rs.1800 every few months and over a period of 1 Year 4 months after purchase, I have to shell out Rs.5400 just to replace the same part every time !!! This is ridiculous to make expensive mobile which I have bought for over Rs.24,000/- and needs a service cost of Rs.1800 every 2 months !!!
I request your reply and replacement of the Hinge Assembly part FREE of cost now.
    Thanking you

I've dealt with the Communicators in the past, the hinges were pretty sturdy - your must have been subjected to some poor treatment or extreme conditions to have just 'cracked'. I assume that the repair centres you have used have marked it as "accidental damage" which is not covered by the warranty.
In any case, you are currently out of warranty, so it is difficult to see what you expect Nokia to do now.

  • Nokia 9500 connect without Bluetooth

    Hi all!
I have searched the forums and on google, but didn't find any answers.
Everybody (who has one) seems to connect their Nokia 9500 Communicator via Bluetooth to a Powerbook.
Is there a possibility to connect via the provided USB-cable? When I plug in the cable, it seems that the phone is not even recognized. It should show up in Network preferences --> Network Port Configurations, shouldn't it? So that I can set it up as a wireless modem.
Is there anything that I am missing?
I hope you can give me some pointers.
    thanks and kind regards, Herlind

Unfortunately, iSync does not support the synchronization of Nokia mobile handsets via USB: you must use a Bluetooth link.
If your computer is not equipped with built-in Bluetooth, you can purchase a D-Link DBT-120 Bluetooth USB adapter—which is explicitly supported by Apple, and to which you can apply Apple Bluetooth firmware updates—or, you can take your chances [with varying degrees of success] with other Bluetooth adapters.
You might want to browse or search the Other Bluetooth Devices forum for more information about this issue. It is located here:

There are non-Nokia softwares available (not for free though) that at least list Windows ME as supported environment. Since I have no experience (other that brief try outs) out of them and since it is not expected to use this forum for random marketing, I can only ask you to use your browser and search with keywords like 9500i and ME for solutions.

  • Launching of a new communicator.

    Hi All,
With all these new phones being introduced by nokia,is it true that communicator will never come to the level of a 3G phone???????The new communicator should have a more powerful camera and all the features of a 3G phone as using a smaller phone after the communicator is unthinkable but, going by the features included in the new phones one gets a feeling that "Communicator" might take a back seat.IS NOKIA GOING TO LAUNCH A 9500 COMMUNICATOR SOON?IF YES THEN WHEN?

arabian, seraphim is trying to say that a series 60 device is not just defined by its software but also its hardware.
a series 80 device needs a keyboard with a joypad and four soft option keys. it also needs a large screen.
if the next communicator were to be based on s60, we woul not be garaunteed a qwerty keyboard, large screen or the same amount of soft option buttons. so it wouldnt be as user friendly...
i do not want to be restricted to the s60 interface.
The S60 3rd Edition does already support scalable user interfaces.
This most likely means we are going to see an S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 (or 3) with the extra functionality required by communicator users.
The new Communicator will surely be an UMTS phone and I'd expect other changes as well. But only time will tell.
Who told you that the next Communicator will have no keyboard?
S60 3rd Edition platform supports many different screen sizes and many different input methods, including a full QWERTY keyboard. It's small in E70 but can be shaped/sized differently - the size and shape of a keyboard doesn't depend on the operating system.
The reason to go with just one platform has to do with development costs and support. The S60 platform does not offer anything that the S80 does not, except for more third-party applications. But the S60 platform will have to be extended a lot to incorporate the features of the S80 platform.
S60 3rd Edition is based on the newest Symbian OS versions. And this means new security system, faster and less resource hungry code thanks to new compiler generating new binary format, new kernel, support for new more powerful ARM processors (like the OMAP2420 running at 330 MHz and including hardware 2D/3D graphics accelerator, support for 3-4 MPix camera, TV out etc. used in Nokia N93) and many other things. The current S80 hardware and software is VERY outdated compared to the latest S60 models like N93 or E70.
I wouldn't be surprised if we are going to see the same communicator model in two variants: one with a camera and one without a camera. Nokia did that distinction for the Nokia E50 as this phone can contain a camera depending on the market.
I was told that new Communicators will be shown only in 2007.
