sorry but ff4 uses more cpu-power than all my adobe-software –
and i dont need an extra heating at the office the fans runnig instantly louder than without ff4.
the following add-ons are installed:
- 1 Password 3.5.9
- awsome screenshot 2.3
- firefox sync 1.7
- xmarks 3.9.10
and some labs are activated in gmail.

Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
Launch the Activity Monitor utility. Pull down the list near the top and set it to "All Processes". Click on the "CPU" column heading to put the highest CPU consumers at the top. Also click on the "CPU" tab in the lower part of the window to check the value for "% Idle". If that value is much above zero, check the other categories for signs of resource problems. If nothing there points to a possible problem, launch the Console utility and look for messages that might suggest a problem. If you see messages that you have trouble interpreting, post them here and someone should be able to help.

I am struggling to resolve the 3rd node is taking 15% of CPU without any load and connection on the server. but not find clues for this. Please give me some inputs.
The issue is:
We have 8 databases on our 3node RAC (11.2.0.1). One of the performance team guy reported that 3rd node is taking 15%cpu utilization when there is no load and connection to the database and at that time the other 2 node are taking only 1%cpu. even i have checked it by using top command and it is almost given same results.
To come out of this issue, i have two solution in my mind, but i am not sure whether this approach is good or bad. the plans are
(1). shutdown the databases and check the cpu usage. --to findout is there any thing wrong with Kernel parameters or at system level.
(2). Shutdown the databases and CRS on the 3rd node and reboot the server.
If above process is correct then i need to take permission from my manager.
I am total stuck, what i need to do. Is there any other approach to resolve this issue. Please help me, this is very critical issue for me.
Also i have checked from GV$SESSION for the active session, but i didn't find any connection apart from oracle processes.

When i checked the gv$session for the active sessions from only 2databases, Do i need to check in all the databases and make sure there are no active session and try for the 1st solution.
-more over i have observed that one of the oracle process is taking 99% of the 15%cpu when i checked from top command. i have tried to find out the what the session is from below, but it given no results from the 2of the DB's.

USB/FireWire usage increases CPU temp and fan speed

Hi,
I'm curious, does the usage of USB and FireWire ports increase CPU temperature and fan speed...?
I have an M-Audio Fast Track USB interface plugged in and whenever I play any songs from iTunes using that interface as an output, my CPU temp increased and fan speed jumped from 2000 to 3300 rpm. And on separate occasion, an 8GB of file transfer from an external FireWire-based HDD had both fans speed up to 4,400 rpm.
Is this normal...? All these were done with an external display plugged onto the MBP with "clamshell" mode.

USB operations involves quite a bit of CPU action, Elphidieus.
Firewire places less demand on the CPU but, in a situation like the one you describe can involve both increases in power usage and in HD temperatures.
The fan speeds on Macs are not simply responsive to CPU usage. Both HD temps and power usage can also play a part in the equation that ultimately produces the fan speed. As HDs have much lower heat tolerance than CPUs you will find that it is quite common to see the fans ramp up when doing a large file transfer over FW (or USB, for that matter) , especially if the internal HD temp gets to over about 50-55º Celsius.

10.7.2 is required for full iCloud facilities, but you can still use your email. In theory you should be able to access your email in Mail at the same server settings, but this hasn't worked for everyone: you can set Mail up manually to access your iCloud email:

High CPU load and com.apple.ImageCaptureExtension2 crash after upgrade

After upgrading my Macbook Air from Lion to Mountain Lion, the system has a very high cpu load, and the crash reporter is the process that causes thee high load. In the error log I see this entry several times per second:

I investigated a bit more and recovered, that it has something to do with the printer drivers. When I remove all printers from setting, everything is fine. As soon as I add a printer (Brother MFC 9440CN printer/scanner, printer driver provided by Mountan Lion), the crash reporter starts it's work and the error log is full of those entries.
Any suggestions?

I did more exploration and found the cause of this, but I don't know how to fix it:
I removed all Brother and Lexmark printer drivers and rebooted (and also tested with a virtual machine using 10.8.0 as guest os that never had any printer installed). As soon as I enter the printer settings and press the "+", the crashes begin, so it looked like the bonjour one of the printers announcing themselves via Bonjour were causing this.
When watching a picture in the preview app the same happend. We have two multi function printers in our network, the already mentioned brother printer and a Lexmark X204N. Switching off the Lexmark (which wasn't installed on my Mac) solved the problem. Switching off the printer is no solution in our office (it's our fax device and main printer), but switching off mDNS on the Lexmark also solved it. But this can only be a workaround.
Is this a known problem with Lexmark devices and Mountain Lion (it works fine with machines using Lion)? Are there any fixes known? It's just the Lexmark device announing itself via Bonjour that causes trouble, even if the driver is not installed.

Permanent high CPU load and timeouts in communication channels

Dear Colleagues,
we've a strange issue since last week. At first we had an problem with a redirect to the cytrix online booking engine within the travel management application of our SAP NW Portal. There is a redirect.jsp file deployed in our PI system that connects to cytrix and passes the URL with session link and session cookie to our Portal. We fixed that issue by restarting the PI system.
We have a PI 7.0 stack 23 on HP-UX.
After restarting we found that we've got a very high CPU load (about 75% overall CPU, or 300% at 4 CPUs) probably caused by very frequent (3 per second) minor garbage collection runs (as seen in GC.log).
On friday we had timeouts within one of our communication channels in the PI system.
We changed the heap size from 2GB to 3GB and the new generation from 341MB to 768MB and restarted the PI system. But after a few ours the system uses 75% RAM of the CPU high CPU load and the GC runs are still the same.

Is the frequency of the GC runs normal?

I believe an issue like that needs to be done onsite and not via a forum
as it probably requires doing lots of checks/tests
my suggestion would be to get a PI consultant expert with basis experience onsite or do it via OSS with SAP

Browser's javascript engine causing high CPU load and lost swipe events

I'm having performance issues on some websites. I think that my the javascript engine in the Playbook's javascript engine is causing high CPU usage, which means the device misses swipe gestures.

Once the page is loaded swipe to scroll up and down. On my device (and my friend's) it is incredibly slow. Sometimes it refuses to register any swipe events.
Now turn off javascript and reload the page. Swipe to scroll up and down. Smooth as silk!

I'm having the same problem on a number of websites with my 32gb Playbook. On the same sites that I notice slow, sometimes barely responsive swipes for scrolling my wife's iPad 2 handles them with ease. Disabling javascript fixes the problem however a lot of websites including gmail requires javascript to be enabled on your browser to load. I notice the problem quite a bit when using webmail to check my gmail account which is rather frustrating because it is my only option until PB gets a native email client. My PB is running software 1.0.8.4295, but the problem was also occurring when it was running 1.0.7.

AS2: Need to increase LoadVars.load (and sendAndLoad) timeout to over 30 seconds

I need to override this to increase it, as there can be a
longer time to process my call.
Is there a way to do this?
I have seen posts on using onHTTPStatus to detect statuses,
but it still times out after 30 seconds.
Testing against PHP code and the 'sleep()' function proves
the 30 second time out.

Have you tried online, in the browser yet? I tried your php
script with
sleep(35) and it failed consistently within Flash, but worked
fine when
running online. Also, I think PHP has a built in 30sec
timelimit - which you
can override:

CPU load and temperatures???

Hi,
I have looked at some other posts, and don't see the same query, so here it is:
My 2009 13" Unibody MBP will overheat if I so much as look at it, or so it seems!. The issue here is that the fan will come on really loudly and the bottom of the machine will become unbearably hot under the following conditions:
1. CPU load = 20%, temp = 76 C, browsing the web
2. CPU load = 33%, temp = 77 C, watching an online video
3. CPU load = 35%, temp = 82 C, watching a movie on lovefilm
3. The lid of the laptop is closed, and I am carrying it in a bag
4. I am charging it with the lid closed.
5. Using an external monitor I have to keep the lid open and on battery use, otherwise it overheats and the fan come on loudly.
Obviously if I shut it down there is no fan noise, however it still gets hot when charging.
Does anyone else have these issues? I don't think I am loading the CPU very much, no gaming, no massive number crunching, just heat!!

I would never carry a MBP in a bag unless it is completely turned off.
What I find out of line is: "1. CPU load = 20%, temp = 76 C, browsing the web"
If you have other applications open, then there may be an explanation for the high temperature. Open Activity Monitor and see what else may be open. Web browsing on my MBP is about 20 C less than what you are reporting.
The other temperature are not necessarily out of line.

How to Show Real CPU load, and not just Average Load on Server Performance or CPU metrics

Hi There,
we are currently using application insights for one of our customers, and they have raised the question with me, regarding CPU spikes. Is there anyway to show these when viewing the server performance or within the CPU metrics?
The reason for the question is that for our particular application the average CPU load is 4%, however when viewing task manager real time, I can see spikes go anywhere from 20-60% for a second or two.
Also do you know if the ability to grant user access to the likes of our customers so they can see the results so I don't have to send screen shots etc. on request.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

TouchPad driver: relatively high CPU load and loads of registry accesses

Under Vista 32 SP1 with the current UltraNav drivers (v 9.1.3.7) the process "SynTPEnh.exe" is creating a relatively high CPU load (2%) and is constantly accessing the registry. See here for a typical pattern creating by Process Monitor:

Can this driver be optimized?
Also, when I use the TrackPoint to scroll in Firefox or in other applications, scrolling is not as smooth as when I use a simple external mouse with a wheel. Moreover, while scrolling with the TrackPoint, the "scrolling cursor" flickers.

Same here, but usually around 10% CPU, Win7 64bit on T431s

Syslogd makes high CPU Load and standby mode doesn´t work.

After updating to Leopard I see high CPU Load caused by syslogd daemon(40%-80%) and my MacBook has problems with standby mode. After stopping the white LED lights and CPU fan speeds up. Is there any chance to fix these problems?

OK.. here's where I'm at with troubleshooting this. As I said before, for ME it occurred simultaneous to a low or out of memory situation. I don't know if syslogd was using my the ram, or if the low ram was a symptom of an issue that syslogd was getting caught up in reporting... but the system log file had tens of THOUSANDS of out of memory errors listed. Almost all were from dashboard.
So... I've done the following. In dashboard I closed ALL open widgets. I disabled spaces (since in another thread someone indicated it used a lot of memory). I ran Leopard Cache Cleaner and used it to perform maintenances, run the os scripts and rebuild caches and so on. Rebooted.
Now its working fine! Since then its been over 24 hrs and I STILL have over 300megs of ram reported free on a 1 gig system. I've used everything else like normal (safari, mail, ichat, itunes, etc..). Where the problem used to happen after a couple of hours after a reboot every time, now it seems normal. No out of mem, and syslogd is running normally (apparently).
I will run a few apps that I havent run in a while and see if those create an issue. If not, later today I will enable spaces and see how that does after a few hours. Finally I'll add in the dashboard widgets one at a time to see if the issue lies there. I'll report back here if I discover anything.

Mail service increasing CPU load & server temperature

Hi,
One of our Xserve's is reporting intermittently the CPU 1 Internal Temperature is 86.67C
This seems to be triggered by sending email via SMTP...
when the smtp protocol is being using these two processes crop up, i know they are the antivirus etc but should they be using this much CPU?!
Process name: Clamscan User: clamav

they are using about 90% CPU...
Does anyone have any ideas?

Correlation between cpu load and the run queue

We are seeing cases where our cpu utilization is less than 50 % but we are getiing run queues of more than 10 minutes. I would expect a high run queue if we were seeing higher cpu utilization but I am having trouble correlating a high run queue with low cpu utilization. Has anyone else seen a condition like this or have any insights. Database is 11g RAC Exadata X2 full rack. We are using ORM to manage CPU resources as well.

If 4, then it looks OK.
Even if 8, it may be correct.
The core does not pickup a waiting thread right after a running thread starts waiting for something like I/O. The switching of context has a cost.
A time of delay may depend on CPU and kernel scheduler, but generally it should be some delay after CPU switches context from one process/thread to another, in case when a running process started waiting prematurely in the middle of its time slice. That is why you may see less than 100% CPU utilization.
