Gmail password rejected in Mail.app

Hi Everyone,
I have scanned through much of the archives looking for answers. My wife's 12" Powerbook cannot receive email from pop.gmail.com. It rejects the password EVERY time. We have been through the settings in meticulous detail about 50 times over. NOTHING works. Gmail rejects her password every time.
Every.
Time.
She has been on the gmail website and her password works fine there. Pop is enabled on the Gmail website. We have been through the email setup links at gmail.com time and time again.
Nothing works. Her password gets rejected time and time and time again ad infinitum.
HELP!!!!!
P.S. Works fine on my 17" Powerbook. I have no problems with Gmail.

hi - i can second this problem with a few more details for trouble shooting.
I have deleted the Mail account and started over countless times.
I have changed the password within Gmail, logged and logged back in to make sure the new password is the current one
I have repaired keychain access
and to top it all off ...
i have started an alternate gmail account and successfully linked it up with Mail without problems.
Any other things i can try before i give up on this email account?

  • Unable to receive gmail through apple's mail app 4.3 on Mac Book Pro

I am unable to receive gmail through apple's mail app 4.3, on my MacBook Pro although I can receive my email on the gmail web site. *I can send email through Mail with no problems I just can't receive any e-mail in Mail.* Recently I got a message that my user name or password was incorrect. I made sure the information was correct but still I can't receive any e-mail in Mail. Could somebody please help me?
Here are the settings. Are they correct?
    Account Type: Gmail IMAP
    Incoming Mail Server: imap.gmail.com

I had the same problem. The unlocking mentioned above worked for me. Right now mail.app is downloading the messages.
I've also on other message boards found a link for correct setup: http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/answers/howto_setup_gmail_imap_andmail.app1/
The key here is to go to labs and enable advanced IMAP settings.
I'm not cheering yet if I hover over the folders / labels that are synced I get de message "Unable to open "foldername""

  • I have updated my iOS and now my hotmail will not verify my password through apple mail app.  I have reset password - tried new password and old password and it still gives me password incorrect.  Hotmail works fine on Mac.  Has anyone had this difficulty

Did you try deleting the mail account, then adding it back?   I've read a lot of times that is what needs to happen in order for it to work properly.

In my mailboxes, I see the names of the mailboxes but there is no numbers next to them indicating the number of emails in the box. I also see that there are about 200 junk emails, several of then are not junk

  • How do you mark a message as spam when your mail comes from gmail via OS X Mail.app?

How do you mark a message as spam when your mail comes from gmail via OS X Mail.app?
I use IMAP to get Gmail. I seem to remember seeing a "[Gmail]/Spam" IMAP folder in previous versions of the app, but that's not visible any more.
Without this, I have to log on to the web-based Gmail to mark messages as spam, that's a productivity killer.

right mouse click on a message and select Mark as Junk Mail

  • Valid POP password rejected by mail

I've seen this problem before with my mother-in-law's account, and wasn't able to resolve it so she simply stopped using my server for her email, but that's not an option for me, so here's the situation as near as I can tell.
One of my POP3 accounts started instantly erroneously showing "POP server rejected the password" a couple days ago. I've verified that it's a Mail issue by both logging in to webmail on my server with the same login info as Mail has, and then also configuring Thunderbird with identical info and it successfully logged in and downloaded all messages.
The error message actually pops up even before it could possibly attempt a login to the server, but I'm not sure where else I can check to troubleshoot. I tried repairing the Keychain, and it reported no problems. I also tried deleting any Keychain entry for that account to no avail either.
Further information that links it to Mail.app instead of the server or another ISP-related problem is that I have a couple other POP addresses on the exact same server that don't have any problems logging in.

    Hi,
Could you please specify more precisely WHEN the error message is shown?
For I have a client that has the same problem and we tracked it down to a stupid timeout problem in Mail - description
    - Start Mail
    - Check for new messages
    - Activity window shows that Mail is sending user name/password to the POP3 server
    - Mail is waiting for the "+OK User johndoe has xx unread messages." message from the server
(actually it is only waiting for "+OK" part of the conversation but ....)
    - The problem arises when my client leaves to many unread messages on the server. Then it takes SEVERAL MINUTES before the server will come back after Mail did send user name/password.
HOWEVER (lil' stupid) Mail has a timeout of (iirc) 1 minute before it gives up assuming that user name/password was incorrect. And displays the dreaded error message "POP server rejected password"...
So - please test with Terminal or any other programm how long it takes (after providing user name/password) until the POP3 server comes back with the message "+OK"....
This will help diagnose the problem.
    Cheers,
    Walter

  • Passwords randomly disappearing Mail app (v4.5)

    Hi there
I have a problem with Mail (v4.5 OSX 10.6.8) where Mail just seems to randomly forget my passwords for my various email accounts.
I have Mail running most of the time and every so often a box will appear asking me to put in a password for one of my email accounts. After putting in my password I check in Mail Preferences - Accounts and the password field for the affected account is blank. I put in my password and save the new settings then all will work ok for a while until the next bout of senility and it happens again with another account. This isn't happening with just one account but seems to be happening at random with the 7 email accounts I have set up in Mail. The accounts I have set up are all POP3 and are from various different providers (Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail etc). All helpful suggestions are appreciated.
    Many thanks in advance
    Jonty

Keychain does not mark mail account keychain entries as "mail.app" entries but as internet entries. A search for imap and smtp keys found the old entries. I deleted the entries and mail generated new ones. Seems to have fixed the issue for me.

  • Is there a way to password-protect the Mail app?

I've looked through the Settings and didn't see anything. I know I can password-protect the entire device, but that seems like overkill.
Is there something I'm missing or even an app that would let me password-protect just the Mail app?

Seriously, if I want to hand someone my Touch, there's no way of keeping them from accessing my email? Why wouldn't there be a setting to secure your mail -- or, to paraphrase the ads, why isn't there "an app for that"?

  • GMail and the Apple Mail app

The Apple Mail app will occasionally throw out an error about being unable to use the SMTP server (GMail hosted).  When this happens, mail is essentially useless.  The 'Quit' option is grayed out in the menu and I have to go in via the terminal to get the PID and kill the app.  This didn't happen when we were on Verizon email.  I created GMail accounts for my family about a year back and it's been happening ever since - not often, but about once a month.
One theory I have:  when I'm at work, I'll check our home GMail from the web interface.  If my wife is at home checking email with the Apple app, I wonder if we are running into some kind of contention issue.
    Anyone else seen this?
    Thanks for your help.

  • .mac password rejected in Mail; works on web

I have an account set up in Mail to retrieve the mail on my .mac account. For several years and up until today I had no problems receiving my mail. Suddenly I am getting a warning window with the message below when I attempt to get mail.
"The .Mac server “mail.mac.com” rejected the password for user “myusername”"
It prompts me to enter my password, which keeps being rejected.
I did not change anything in my account settings. Also I am able to to login to my .mac account via the WWW and get my mail that way (indeed, if there was something wrong with that password I would not have been able to log in here to post this message).
I have made sure the password in my Mail account is the same as the password in my .mac settings. This does not make any sense and is very frustrating.
Does anyone have any insight into this?

    Hello,
I am having the same problem not being able to access e-mail service through my computer because it won't accept my password. Shaw Cable tells me I need to re-install the Mail program, because they can access my e-mails through their Mac computer. I'm unable access my e-mail through the internet as well. Apparently Apple cannot re-install my e-mail program because the warrenty has run out. Apparently I can re-install the Mail Program myself but I have no idea how. Is there anyone out there who can assist me with this.
    Thank you.

  • Gmail constantly disappearing in mail.app

Ever since Mountain Lion, I've had problems with my default gmai account.  All email is not visible and there is an arroow that appears next to the account.  If I take the account offline, then back online, the email will appear for a short time then disappear again.  I only have this problem with my @gmail account.  I have several Google Apps accounts that have a @mydomainname address and they all work fine.  The server settings are the same for all accounts.  This is for mail.app.  I have no problems with the account using Thunderbird, but I do not want to use TB.  THis is accourring on all my Mac devices, Mini, iMac, MacBook Pro.
After taking account offline and back online.

If you don't feel comfortable doing this, then you might wait for someone else to respond.
First off, be sure to have a backup before doing anything.
    Quit Mail first.
You will then need to get to your Home Library Folder which is hidden. In the Finder, select Go in the menu, then select Go To Folder. Paste this in the box:
    ~/Library
Your Home Library will open in a Finder window. At the top of the window, drag the Folder icon next to Library to the sidebar for quick reference for later.
Note that the Home Folder is desiginated by ~ .
Go the the ~/Containers folder and find the "com.apple.mail" folder. Drag that to the desktop.
Then go to ~/Mail folder/V2 folder. Find the folder of the account you are having trouble with and drag that folder to the desktop.
Then go to ~/Saved Application State folder and move the com.apple.mail folder to the desktop.
Open Mail and see if the problem persists. Note that if anything goes wrong, quit Mail, then those folders can be put back to their original locations and replace any new ones created.
