Gmail questions

Can anyone help me figure out some issues w/ gmail and my iphone? So, when I send an e-mail from gmail it comes up on my iphone as a new message from me. Additionally, when I send an e-mail from my iphone, I receive that same e-mail in my inbox.
Additionally when i get an e-mail and read it on my iphone, it stays in my inbox as new, and when I read a new message on gmail it is still new on my iphone. Does anyone have any solutions to this issue?

Let's back up and try this again.
Q: …when I send an e-mail from gmail it comes up on my iphone as a new message from me.
A: That's entirely normal, if I understand correctly what you are stating.
Q: Additionally, when I send an e-mail from my iphone, I receive that same e-mail in my inbox.
A: Got it. That is a clear indication that you have set Gmail to forward messages to your account. See the link in a prior message for instructions on how to modify that setting.
Q: Additionally when i get an e-mail and read it on my iphone, it stays in my inbox as new, and when I read a new message on gmail it is still new on my iphone.
A: Gmail does NOT implement IMAP accounts. Therefore, the behavior you see is exactly what you should expect, even from Gmails rather goofy implementation of POP3. When you view messages through an IMAP 'window' you are looking at messages on a mail server. When you view them with a POP3 client, you are looking at a copy which has been downloaded to your machine, and not to a modified message or mailbox on a server.

Try Restarting / rebooting  your Mac before doing anything more drastic..

  • AOL through GMAIL Questions

Hi, I have both Gmail and AOL mail. My question is if i set Gmail to pull my AOL mail will Gmail seperate the both ? So on my iphone will the Gmail have a AOL and Gmail folder or are they all in one folder ? Hope this makes sense.

    richxps,
The iPhone supports having more than one email account configured at a time, and if you set them up as two different accounts on the iPhone, they will be completely separated.
The iPhone includes presets for both GMail and AOL email.
To setup a second email account go to Settings -> Mail -> Add Account.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Gmail questions on iPhone

I've just started with an iPhone - it's a 3GS model - never had an iPhone before!
I'm coming from the Android world
I'm still getting used to using
    Gmail:
    - how do I send an email to Spam?
    - how do I mark an email as unread?
    - how do I delete an email?
    - why are my email searches not giving me emails that I know are there??
I've read up a little and to get my contacts, I installe done of my accounts as an Exchange account
BUT: that doesn't allow me to archive emails - that REALLY *****
In Android World, the Gmail is pretty good
(Though I don't like the latest update and moving around of buttons and links)
I suspect that the default mail program doesn't give you full functionality of Gmail as in Android
QUESTION: if that's the case, are the other Gmail applications any good?
Ideally... I want something developed by Google and not some 3rd party
    Thanks
    Omar

hmmm thats good news - but i want it now!
    lol
i found out a bit about the deleting
it just seems bizarre that u can't delete and can only archive
if u swipe the email while still in the email list, u see a hidden button that reveals 'archive'
u can press and then archive that email
now in mail settings, if u turn off archive, the swipe will now reveal 'delete' instead
u can always move messages to trash - but that takes 2 clicks and wastes milliseconds of my life - i don't like this wasted time - there should just be a button to move to trash
marking as spam - still no answer - i suppos eu can move to the spam folder
for searching messages - i have a message that is 2 years old in my gmail
it contains a web link i can't ever remember
every now and then i need to go to the web link - so i will just do a search for this email
in my andorid phone - the email is always found
on the iphone - not found
    why?
    thanks

  • Mail/ Gmail question

I already have my personal email configured in mail (POP account). I have just set up, for business, a gmail account, which I want to be able to send and receive from Mail alongside my personal account. i.e: I want to be able to have both accounts set up which I can switch between, rather than having to log onto Gmail via Safari.
When I try and follow the Gmail/ OSX advice, mail tells me I already have a POP account configured and won't allow me to add another.
    Any way around this?
Also, is it possible to have a separate inbox/ folder for the gmail emails to go directly to?
    Thanks in advance

It looks like you’re trying to set up a mail account with the same Account Type, User Name and Incoming Mail Server as an already existing one, which doesn’t make sense in the circumstances you’ve described. Could you please clarify this?
You should certainly be able to set up as many mail accounts in Mail as you wish, and each would have its own separate mailboxes, as long as the Account Type, User Name and Incoming Mail Server are not the same...

: how can I import mp3s from my gmail account into my iTunes application so that I can import audio for recording into GarageBand ?

Save the file from Gmail onto your computer and add it to iTunes.  How you save from Gmail is a Gmail question (their own support pages), not an iTunes question.

  • Missing Messages in Outlook 3013 using Windows 7 and Gmail

I have configured my Gmail account taking heed of settings recommended by MS and Gmail and everything appears to be working but I regularly lose messages from the folders Sent and Inbox. I know messages were sent as they are included in the replies I have
received and all my messages are in Gmail when I access the account on the web but those same messages are not in Outlook. I have seen similar posts relating to Outlook 2010 but frankly the only fix that seemed to get a thumbs up was in regard to folders NOT
individual messages. I am starting a business and bought a full Office 2013 Pro version so I don't wany to ignore Outlook and its integral part of office and revert to Gmail for email handling
Can anyone help without getting into programming issues which I would not be experienced enough to implement?

You have asked your Gmail question in a Microsoft Exchange forum.  I recommend that you post this in the Outlook Forum:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/outlook/threads  But, quite frankly, I don't know that you're going to get much help with that request.

  • Mail and firefox

    newbie here...
    Can firefox be installed?
also when I sync my mail account( I have 2) it doesn't add my custom mailboxes..matter of fact it only added my inbox for my main account?..my gmail account( secondary) it added all my main boxes..no custom though..
Is that normal for no custom boxes..and if not how to fix
    thanks

Firefox is not available on the touch/iPhone. I've noticed some alternate browsers in the App store but I have not tried them (nor do I want to).
I'm not sure about the gmail question you have. I'll leave that one to someone else.

  • Somebody has created an apple id using my gmail id. So I gave forgot password option and reset the password of the id. But for resetting the security questions, link is going to some other email id which is created by the other guy.How can I resolve this?

When I tried to create and apple id using my gmail account i found that somebody has already created an apple id using my gmail id. So I gave forgot password option and reset the password of the id. But for resetting the security questions, link is going to some other email id which is created by the other guy. Now the problem is that the other guy also can reset my password and access my account.
I contacted apple customer care and they are not ready to help me saying that I need to give information about the last device I logged in using this id. How can I give it when I did not create it?:) Also they are saying this account has been verified and that could happen only if someone has hacked my gmail account and verified the id using the link sent by apple.
Later I did some experiments and found that this is a security flaw from apple. Somebody has created the id and never used it(I tried to loggin to icloud and it was saying this account was not used it any apple device). The account became verified when I reset the password.(This is a bug, account should be verified only when we click on the verification link sent by apple).
The other mistake apple did is that they allotted my gmail account to someone before it's verified eventhough it cannot be used unless verified. Actually apple should allot the account id only after verifying the email address.
Apple customer care is not ready to help and I am tired of fighting with them. Can any of you guys suggest any means of getting back my gmail id to use it as apple id?

I don't think you're going to be able to. I would guess the other person used your address by accident, and when he found he couldn't access the account (because you'd changed the password) he abandoned it. Your GMail address is now locked to that account and even if it was changed you can't use it to create another.
You already have an Apple ID, which you use to log in here; you can use that to create an iCloud account if that's what you are trying to do. If you want to create a different Apple ID just get another free address such as a Yahoo one.

  • How do I get my gmail account unlocked, it has been hacked and even security questions changed. I can't access the account to change the password.

Someone used one of my two gmail accounts to send emails to both of my gmail accounts and one of my yahoo accounts - using all my contacts on the three accounts - saying I was in Scotland and needed money, please send it. I have changed the password on my other gmail and the yahoo accounts but the email account used to send that message to all my contacts I can no longer access, appear to be locked out. Even the security question is different than the ones I established. A friend did respond, was emailed back that I as at the Raddison Hotel in Edinborough and he called that hotel to be told I was not registered there. So - what do I do now? I've been told by yahoo that is it a browser problem. I have not heard back from google. Help!

I gave in and am now using IMAP but I still find the behaviour a bit wierd...

  • Question about synching gmail contacts with address book

    Hi,
I recently discovered that it is possible to synch gmail contacts with apple addressbook. I also found out this feature only works if you have an iphone or an ipod touch. Unfortunatly, I don't have either. I then discovered there was a work around for this:
    http://lifehacker.com/393855/enable-google-contact-sync-without-an-iphoneipod-to uch
    *My question is*..............
I'm planning on getting an iphone in half a year and if i mess with these settings will i have to change them back to be able to synch my iphone? or will my iphone be able to synch with the way the new settings are anyway?
    Thanks

Does your question have anything remotely to do with iWeb 09? This is an iWeb 09 forum - did you not look where you were posting?
No - so it is not relevant to this forum. Please post in somewhere that is more relevant, such as the iPhone forum or the iPad forum.

  • I was recently able to attach files in gmail using Firefox, but now I get an unresponsive link, when I click "upload". It works fine on other browsers. I search the question database but perhaps I missed the fix. Any suggestions?

I am using windows 7 Home Premium, on an HP. I use and enjoy the Firefox browser. The only major extension that could cause clicking issues is possibly NoScript. But until recently I have had no problems with uploading attachments in Gmail through Firefox.
    The issue:
I start Gmail. Logging in is fine. When I compose a new message (still no problem) I can't upload any attachment via the attachment link. I click the attach link and it is unresponsive. I use internet explorer and I get no issues. I've noticed this issue only since yesterday. Please help.
    Thanks
    R/S Kenneth

I also had this problem since yesterday (march, 13). I tried cleaning cache and cookies, restarting the browser and the pc, but nothing happened. With IE and Chrome the attachment worked fine.
I hoped that with the yesterday's 3.6.28 updade it would be fixed, but it didn't.
Then, I saw the reply to [http://support.mozilla.org/pt-BR/questions/922873 THIS SIMILAR PROBLEM] which was telling to use the refresh button on FIREFOX (not Gmail's refresh). I tried, and the problem was gone.
So, if anybody has the same issue, try hitting the refresh button on firefox :)
    Thank you, junkcat!

  • [SOLVED] Conky, Gmail, and STDOUT Question

I currently have Conky working with a script to check my gmail (gmail.pl).  It works as intended in conky, but it saves all the output from the script to STDOUT.  This isn't a problem until I log out of openbox and my screen is filled with these things:
    --2008-10-03 09:28:50-- https://<username>:*password*@mail.google.com/mail/feed/atom
    Resolving mail.google.com... 209.85.147.83, 209.85.147.19, 209.85.147.18

HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 401 Unauthorized
    Connecting to mail.google.com|209.85.147.83|:443... connected.

    2008-10-03 09:28:51 (244 MB/s) - `-' saved [1005]
It's not really a problem as much as an annoyance I guess.
What I THINK I would like to do is pipe the output to /dev/null?  Or save it to /dev/null?  I am just not sure how to do this.  I went through the script itself and couldn't figure it out.  Any ideas?  Here is the script:

The fix was to change conky from:
    ${execi 60 perl ~/scripts/gmail.pl n}
    To:
    ${execi 60 perl ~/scripts/gmail.pl n 2>/dev/null}
(Added 2>/dev/null, sending the error messages to /dev/null.)

  • Why am I getting a blue box with question mark instead of logo image?  It happens in my signature (in gmail) and in mailchimp (again, only with the logo).

The question mark in the box, if it looks like this:   means that safari cannot find the linked image.  On windows machines, this would be the equivilant of  the small "page-with-a-red-X" logo that appears in the same scenario.  Check the reference to the image and make sure that the image is in the correct location, and is accessable by the reference.

  • Question marks instead of bullets in gmail

when testing this html email in gmail, there are question
marks where there are supposed to be bullet points. any idea why?
here's the page (which checks out as valid css and, except
for a few alt tags, also checks out as valid html)

    thanks!

I made Outlook stationary from your HTML page and used it to
    send email to
    my Gmail account.
This is what it looked like (bullets rendered as asterisks):
    Dear Friend,
The quote above is from a recent editor's note in Mother
    Jones - and we
think it makes a really important point.
There's an assault taking place on the truth, and we simply
    can't trust the
mainstream media any more to provide us with the full story.
    Or all sides of
a story. Quite simply, they're asleep at the wheel.
That's why there's never been a more important time to
    subscribe to Mother
Jones - the truth-telling, deep-probing source of quality
    independent
    reporting for over 30 years.

Not beholden to special interests, non-profit Mother Jones
    has the freedom
to say what needs to be said and report the stories that
    aren't seeing the
    light of day. Stories like...
    * how Exxon-Mobil spent millions funding groups that publicly
    "deny" the
    science behind global warming.
    * how the powerful Christian Reconstruction movement wants to
    return this
country to Biblical law -- including stoning adulterers and
    gays.
    * how a secret Pentagon office cooked intelligence on Iraq
    and "stovepiped"
it up to Dick Cheney. (Our reporters are now showing how
    they're doing it
    again with Iran.)
WE PUT THE FAIR AND BALANCED BACK INTO 'FAIR AND BALANCED'.
Just because Fox News says they're balanced it doesn't make
    it so. A news
organization needs to earn credibility, to prove itself with
    a record of
looking at the cold, hard facts and not simply of marching
    lock-step with a
political agenda. Great reporting can't be knee-jerk left or
    right ... you
need to report the truth, whether it's good, bad, or ugly.
This is our mission - and we've been proudly fulfilling it
