Gmail really slow on Mac OS Mail

Hey all,
I've recently been experiencing slow performance in both receiving time in emails as well as viewing HTML based emails.  I know that Gmail recently stopped supporting push mail, and that on iDevices we're back to 15 minute delays in fetching emails, but I have my fetch set to every 1 minute in Mail, but I get pretty serious delays in emails coming into my inbox.  Sometimes lasting as long as 3 minutes.
Also I'm running into slow viewing of HTML based emails.  I will click on an unread message and it will sit and chug and chug with a blank screen for up to 3-5 minutes.
I've employed the database refresh terminal command hoping it would clean up some messy database goo, but that didn't help any at all.  It seems it's specific to my gmail accounts.  My icloud account seems to be working ok.
I've also noticed that Safari on my machine sometimes lags in loading pages in the same way Mail does.  When I open Chrome, I don't run into the same issues.  Could this be an issue with Safari on my machine, and doesn't Mail use the Safari engine to render HTML emails?
Any suggestions on how I can either fix or workaround these issues?

Have you tried emptying the Safari cache lately? Press Command + Option + E. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test again.
doesn't Mail use the Safari engine to render HTML emails?
Yes.

  • Revit 2012 runs really slow on mac pro on 4g ram bootcamp

I can run revit on my old ****** pc just fine but when I install it on my new july 2011 mac pro 13 in, 4gigs of ram, running on boot camp. Revit runs out of ram. It's so slow that it's basically useless trying to run it on my mac. Does any know of a fix? Is it settings? Some say I need to buy and install a minimum os 8gig of ram, is this true? will it really fix my problem or just get me to spend more money?
Ps: revit ran just fine before I installed all the drivers on bootcamp. Is this related to my problem?
    Using window 7
    Thanks

I have finally found a simple fix to this problem. It's been working great so far and I'll keep you posted if any problem occurs.
Go to the upper left Revit Tab and click
at the bottom left click options then click graphics
and uncheck Hardware accelerator (direct X)
Revit has now been using only about 50% of my ram and seems to keep up with my drafting.
    Hope this helps

    Fixing a Mavericks Installation Problem
How to manage a failed OS X Mavericks installation | MacFixIt - CNET Reviews.
    Try these in order:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • PSE 10 really slow on mac 10.8.2

I've been using PSE 10 for a while on my OX S Mac. Processor 2.4 GHz intel core 2 duo, Memory 2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, software 10.8.2.
It was not slow before but know it freezes up so much that it becomes nearly inoperable. I checked my memory and I have plenty of space. I shut down all the other applications. I boosted up the amount of RAM PSE can use. I decreased the amount of undo states PSE can keep. But even with all that, it still was slow. So I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, and that didn't fix the problem either.
Is there anything I can do to get it back to the speed it was at?

You can get to the organizer prefs from the bottom of the editor preferences:
However, having said that, 2GB is a miserably small amount of ram to be running any recent version of OS X. I'd seriously think about adding more if you plan to keep this computer for any length of time.

  • Loading mail in iCloud is REALLY slow

Loading mail in iCloud is REALLY slow; everything else seems ok; syncing to other devices is spot on.

    Bill...
On the Mac open System Prerferences > iCloud
Deselect Mail & Notes then reselect the box then restart your Mac.
    See if that helps.

There is nothing wrong with your Dell, it will work fine with any MacbookPro. I have been using Dell displays for over 12 years with many different Mac models. I have two 21" Ultra Sharp displays working side by side to design a Keynote presentation right now.
    The issue your having is with the way Keynote  takes control of the video output to both displays, it sends the presentation signal to one and the presenter display to the other, this is set up in;
    Keynote preferences > Presenter display.
If you want to show a wesite or another app on  either display,  use application switcher:
press the the  command key on the keyboard, then the tab key; a row of applications will show what applications are running, choose which one you want to show. Use command  > tab to return to Keynote.

  • My 17 inch mac book pro is running really slow

Since upgrading to mavericks my 2010 17 inch macbook pro is running really slow. I'm thinking of completely rebuilding my machine and using an old OS. Is this the best solution? Or should I rebuild with mavericks first?
My mac spec is 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 with 8GB 1067 Mhz DDR3

The only thing that you can do from a mechanical prospective is install a faster HDD, either a SSHD or a SSD.  A 17" 201 MBP will not accept more than 8 GB RAM.
Though Snow Leopard is the most efficient OSX from Apple to date, your MBP should run Mavericks without difficulty.  You might have some third party software that could be your problem.  Noted culprits are AV and so called 'cleaning' or 'performance' applications.  There may be others as well.
If you download and post an EtreCheck report, it may provide some clues:

  • My Mac has gone really slow since upgrading to Mavericks. Any suggestions as to how to speed things up again?

My Mac has gone really slow since upgrading to Mavericks. Any suggestions as to how to speed things up again?

First, back up all data immediately unless you already have a current backup. If you can't back up, stop here. Do not take any of the steps below.
    Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the log for messages that may indicate a system issue. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'GPU |hfs: Ru|I/O e|find tok|n Cause: -|NVDA\(|pagin|timed? ?o' | tail | awk '/:/{$4=""; print}' | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
    Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
Run Software Update. If there's a firmware update, install it.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a portable computer, check the cycle count of the battery. It may be due for replacement.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane. See whether there's any change.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
    Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the View menu or the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for User, System, and Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the Memory tab. What value is shown in the bottom part of the window for Swap used?
Next, select the Disk tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in andWrites out.)
    Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • Using (Gmail) IMAP account from 2 different Macs using Mail ?

Would it be feasible/useful to access an (Gmail) IMAP mail account from 2 different Macs using Mail on each Mac?
    My current situation:
    - My main computer is an iMac in my bedroom on which I use Mail for my Gmail IMAP account.
    - Sometimes (ex: late at night) I can't work from the bedroom and use a PowerBook and the web interface of Gmail. However, I don't like the threaded view for managing emails and therefore prefer the Apple Mail interface.
    Question:
Would it make sense that I use Apple Mail on the PowerBook to access the Gmail account instead of using the web interface?
    What would be the inconveniences?

Doing so is pretty easy, and standard. That is what IMAP accounts are for, and many computers can access the same account, and what email client they choose doesn't matter.

    Hello,
Unfortunately Apple do not offer a download for mac OS X 10.5.8. They will only provide updates available for download. ( Normally you would do so once the OS is installed)
To do a fresh install of this software your going to need to buy a retail copy of the disk.
There are some vendors who do still stock the media disk, but they can be expensive.
    Best of luck.
