Gmail ''sent folder'' missing...

hi guys !
i just set up my Apple Mail ( gmail pop account ? i think... ) it ''imported'' some 3000 emails other people wrote to me in the last three years or so but not a single one of the 2000+ i wrote/sent to others in the same period of time !?...
i've been around the Gmail settings page, looked around in the Mail menus but saw nothing that indicated being able to import this ''Gmail Sent Email Folder'' from Gmail over to my iMac...
what am i doing wrong ? any help would be VERY appreciated, thanks in advance
Nuno

hi ernie
well i'm afraid there's not much else, as i said i enabled POP in the gmail settings page then clicked the save button. then back to Apple Mail, went through the necessary steps when you first open Mail , you know : username, password & so on...basically i followed the indications written on Gmail about setting up POP accounts in Mail. when i was done with all that, Mail started ''receiving'' packs of 300 or 400 emails at a time until it had all of them in.
being quite stubborn, after i posted here i went back & realized they where ALL mixed up together : the emails people wrote to me & the ones i wrote to them so, to get those in my Sent folder, i went to the mail menu, selected view --> sort by --> from & Mail organized emails by name of sender alphabetically, then all i had to do was select all that had my name as sender, right click & select move to--> sent --> gmail & as by magic, it all fell into place.
i feel i have done something NOT the right way at all but am happy i manage to get it as i wanted, i had tried the imap set-up before & hated how Mail behaved & clutter of Mails interface with things i just don't use or want to use, you know ?
anyway many thanks for trying & sorry for the bother
cheers
Nuno

Of course, the Sent folder does display on the Gmail site.

    Thanks much.

The folder is never empty-- can't answer that question.
BTW, the folder is now displaying ugh

  • Items from Gmail Sent folder not imported to Apple Mail during IMAP setup

    Hi,
I just set up IMAP for my Gmail account. Now, although my Inbox folder got copied over to Apple Mail, the Sent folder did not.
Anyone know how I can copy this over too? Its just that I have lots of flagged items that I occasionally reference from the Sent folder.
    Thanks.

I'm presuming you have webmail access? In the webmail environment, can you move those messages into another folder or into the inbox itself, then connect in the Mac Mail.app environment, the mailboxes/folders will synchronize, then drag-and-drop them into the Sent folder? And make sure that in Mail's Prefs, you have the "Store Sent Mail on server" checkbox checked?

  • Syncing Gmail Sent Folder

I just setup my gmail account as IMAP with mac mail. It synced my inbox but won't sync with my sent folder. Help please!

    Ok... How about this...
Go to Gmail online. Login to your account, then: SETTINGS > LABELS. Now set the "Show" and "Hide" options for the various folders.
Make sure to QUIT Mail and then restart it after this...
    Anything?

  • Help needed! GMail sent items missing from Apple Mail!

I need your help to solve a problem that I've identified recently in Apple Mail with a GMail account:
I have a POP-enabled GMail account in Mail, but also with IMAP functionality enabled through GMail's webmail settings (probably because I access it also from my iPad).
However, I notice that my local "Sent" mailbox in Mail only contains some 140 messages, even if a visit to GMail's webmail page shows me that I have at least 1200 "sent" messages.
I must note that my advanced mailbox settings in Mail do NOT allow for automatic deletion of sent items.
So my question is: how to make sure that I do not lose ANY sent items from GMail or any other account for that matter (i.e., that whatever is sent remains in the local "sent" mailbox in Mail)? Am I missing something?
Thanks a lot in advance for your help.

Or am I saying something stupid?
No I don't think so. But from what you're saying, the only copies of sent messages on your computer will be what you are sending from the computer. The messages sent from the iPad or website are not stored on the computer. If it were all set as IMAP, they will be available on all devices.
Thanks a lot for your attentive reply - my only concern is that, when I activate IMAP, I won't be able anymore to have a steady copy of all items in my sent items folder on Apple Mail, nor to delete what I want at will.
Changing it to IMAP will make the all sent items available on the server to your computer, website, and other devices. They will always be there as long as you don't delete them from the server. The messages you manually delete will delete them from the server and all devices. If you want a local backup, then copy them to a local folder which will not remove them from the server or move them to a local folder which will delete them from the server.
Auto syncing does not in any way interfere with local folders on the Mac. The only IMAP folders you can sync are the inbox, sent, drafts, and junk. Inbox is the only mailbox that has to be synced (it's done automatically and you can't change it). I also sync the Sent and Trash. I don't sync (store messages on the server) the drafts or junk mailbox.
I don't understand what you mean by not being able to delete messages from the Inbox. I do it all the time. What happens when you delete it depends on your settings in gmail. Gmail has some peculiar settings like having a deleted items folder besides the Trash folder.  The default is to delete from inbox, it goes to the deleted items folder. Delete it from there, and it goes to Trash. Delete it from trash to get rid of it. The fact is that the All Mail folder shows the message no matter what folder it in. I have mine set to move it straight to the trash when moved from the last visible IMAP folder. So, when I delete it from Mail's Inbox, it moves it to the trash just as local messages do.
If you plan to do your email from the computer only, then POP is fine. If you plan to use the website and iPad also, then IMAP is the way to go.
That way everything in mail is available no matter where you look at it. The only things you won't see is what you move to local folders.
Seems like you should go to gmail's website and read the help files to become more familiar with it. Also look at all the settings available (expecially the Labels Tab, Accounts tab, and Forwarding Tab. These settings will be what you will use mostly to customize how it works and flows with the Mac. If you're going to use IMAP, you need to understand what they do exactly and what you want them to do for you.
My sole objective: to keep ALL messages in Apple Mail (except those I expressly delete), as well as ALL messages in Google.
IMAP does exactly this for you already. By leaving it on the server, they are on the computer. In Mails preference settings in the Accounts / Advanced Tab, for IMAP accounts keep the setting for storing messages for offline viewing. That way Mail actually does store a copy locally until you delete it from the server. And that will be backed up with your computer backup.
And what you do delete from any device will duplicate it elsewhere.

  • Why Gmail sent from my iPhone not appearing in iMac's Sent folder?

    Hi guys,
Some time after installing iCloud - possibly the same day, I sent a message from my iPhone 3G to multiple recipients.
    a) No one got it, b) my message appears as Sent in iPhone and in Gmail (on their site), and on my iMac's Gmail/Sent folder, but not in the iMac's Mail/Sent folder - which is the one I always check.
I have 2 questions: 1. how come a message appearing as Sent on Gmail's own site isn't received (there were 4 recipients) and, 2. why does it appear as Sent in some but not all Sent folders?
Would iCloud have anything to do with it?
I just sent a test message to myself from my iPhone. I got the message both on the iPhone AND iMac, but again the message does not appear in the iMac's/Mail Sent folder. Bizarre?
PS   All my software is up to date, regardless of what my profile says.
    Thanks a lot,
    Raphael

Please ignore the above .  I have discovered what I did wrong - but don't know how to delete the question!
    Sorry

  • Gmail IMAP Sent  Mail folder missing in Mac Mail

I made a change in Mac Mail by using the Mailbox/Use this mailbox for Sent Mail menu item on the [Gmail] Sent Mail folder and the original
[Gmail] Sent Mail folder has vanished. It still appears in the Gmail web interface and is checked on to show up in IMAP, but it doesn't appear in Mac Mail. Sent messages to appear in the Mac Mail snet folder, which is fine but I want to [Gmail] Sent Mail folder back. I tried turning the "show in IMAP" setting in Gmail on and off and it works for other folders, but not for the "Sent Mail" folder. I also tried restoring an older copy of the com.apple.mail.plist file but that didn't work either. Any ideas how to get it back? Pop is turned off as well.

It seems this is the desired behavior in Mail, as I don't need the [Gmail] folders to appear since the mail is all in the Mac Mail folders.
Of course, this might all break again when I upgrade to Mavericks :-(

  • Why does mail sent using the MacOSX mail client not show up in my sent folder when I access my Gmail account in a browser?

I've recently started using my first Mac, and I hooked my work email (Forwarded to Google Mail) and my personal email (Gmail) into the MacOSX mail client. Everything seemed to be going smoothly, until I noticed that sent mail from my work email through the MacOSX Mail client is not showing up in my sent box on any other clients. Sent mail does show up in my personal email in Gmail, though.
Can anyone help me understand why mail sent from the MacOSX Mail client doesn't end up in the sent folder of my work Gmail account? I suspect it has something to do with the forwarding-to-Google process -- a sort of "too many cooks in the kitchen" situation. Has anyone heard of this problem before? What should I try?

I've been noticing that too.  Just told me there were 6 outgoing messages, even though I did not create any new messages.
One hypothesis is that it's generating those messages when a rule moves an email from one folder to another.
Can someone at Apple confirm this?

  • Duplicate Messages in Sent Folder--Apple mail and gmail

I recently started using apple mail for my two gmail accounts.
I have properly configured all folders (highlight "trash" from gmail and click use this mailbox for..)
since i have two gmail accounts, i did this for both of them.
i did a couple of test emails from my main gmail account. now, in my sent folder it's showing duplicates for what i've sent, one from my main gmail account, one from my second gmail account.
I've tried to uncheck the box where it saves messages on server in preferences, and that seemed to work. however, i checked on my iphone and my sent message showed up..not in my main gmail account sent mail, but in my secondary gmail account sent mail.
    can this be fixed?

check out the settings here: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78892#
    specifically:
From the Mail menu, click Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors
    Drafts:
Store draft messages on the server > do NOT check
    Sent:
Store sent messages on the server > do NOT check
    Junk:
Store junk messages on the server > checked
Delete junk messages when > Never
    Trash:
Move deleted messages to the Trash mailbox > do NOT check
Store deleted messages on the server > do NOT check

  • Mail and Gmail IMAP: duplicates in sent folder

    Hi there,
I recently set up my Gmail account for IMAP and configured Mail.app accordingly. I have several mail accounts which all get directed over my Gmail account. It all works fine, but whenever I send a mail from Mail.app from one of my mail accounts, it appears twice in my sent folder in Mail.app (it's not sent twice, I checked that, and it appears normally in the sent folder of the web interface).
It's seriously clucttering my sent folder, does anybody have an idea how to fix this? Maybe a problem with labels?
    Help greatly appreciated,
    J

    Anyone? No idea?

  • I have set up 4 email accounts. Two are gmail and they show only old messages in sent folder - even when messages have been sent from this ipad.

I tried deleting and re-entering the accounts, but problem with sent folder still occurs

I found this in another discussion in the box on the right >>>>> More like this.
Substitute whatever your email account's name is where it states Comcast and see if this helps. The settings would be the same on an IPad as on an iPhone.
Go into Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>and select the Comcast account. From there look at the Outgoing Mail Server. It shoudl list the Comcast SMTP server. Touch that button and it will take you to another settings page for SMTP. It will show you the Primary SMTP server along with other SMTP servers. If the gmail server is listed there, then you can touch on it and turn it off. That should take care of it. The iPhone will try and use the SMTP server you have listed for a particular mail account, however, if that server is unavailable, it will take the next one on the SMTP list until it gets to one it can use.

  • I sent photos out of my IPhoto library, but they do not appear in my "Sent" folder on my GMail although that mail account was in the "From" field?

I sent photos out of my IPhoto library, but they do not appear in my "Sent" folder on my GMail although that mail account was in the "From" field?

If you're using iPhoto as your email client a sent version is not created.  You need to BCC yourself in order to get a copy.
The better solution is to use Mail as your email client in conjunction with Gmail.  This will give you a sent copy, better access to your contacts and, if so desired, photo templates to use via Mail's stationary feature.

  • Gmail mail in iCloud sent folder

Hi, I just set up my mail on my new mac but for some reason all my Gmail sent mail is also in my iCloud sent mail folder, its also like this when I acess my mail through the iCloud website, how do I fix this ?

At a guess you have configured the Mail app so that GMail uses the iCloud outgoing server, check your smtp settings in Mail.

  • "Sent" folder in Mail doesn't sync with "Sent" folder on Gmail. PLEASE HELP!!!!

I am completely stumped by this and really REALLY frustrated.
I can't figure out how to make the "sent" folder in mail (i.e the one with the paper plane icon) contain ALL my sent messages from Gmail.
It works perfectly fine on my iPhone and iPad but just not mail on my mac!!!
I am using Mail version 4.5 and Snow Leopard.
    PLEASE someone HELP!!!
    Thanks

I'm new here so you'll have to bear with me if my explanation needs work!
I suspect that your problem may be that your Mac is storing the sent stuff on the local folder (probably hapening with junk and trash too???) If this is the case then...
Make sure you have the correct IMAP path prefix - entered in Mail Preferences > Accounts > Advanced - I believe that the prefix you need is Gmail
Quit Mail so it doesn't interfere with what you're doing,
Open  ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist with the Property List Editor
Take a back up copy (I saved mine to desk top) of com.apple.mail.plist
Look for the key named MailAccounts and click the arrow to expand it
you should see all your accounts indexed as 0, 1, 2, etx
Find your IMAP accounts (check that the key AccountType is IMAPAccount)
Find the key SentMessagesMailboxName and change it to Gmail/Sent (substitute INBOX for IMAP Path Prefix if incorrect)
Find the key TrashMailboxName and change it to Gmail/Trash
I think I had to do the same with junk too
Hope that is of some use or at least makes enough sense :-)
